I have been searching for a Thai Restaurant in the Sac region that serves Thai food flavors that I'm used to enjoying in the Bay Area. I had given up and hadn't eaten Thai food in Sac and surrounding cities for a long time because of this. Then my friend invited me out to dinner at My Thai Kitchen and with one bite of their curry puff appetizer and pad Thai, FINALLY! The Thai flavors I've been searching for! It was happy hour, so we enjoyed $1 off shumai and curry puffs. This was my friend's first time trying both, and all disappeared in both of our bellies! The curry puffs were filled with potatoes and vegetables, with the perfect hint of spice. Their Pad Thai is exactly how I like it, not too sweet and tangy. Our protein was shrimp and they serve such a large quantity that I had delicious leftovers for three days! We dined outside and enjoyed their large patio, and service from beginning to end was excellent, so much that one of the employees asked us if we wanted dessert in the end and excitedly convinced us to order the mango with the black sticky rice. Today I got food to go from this place, and it was not nearly as good as I expected. First of all the fresh spring rolls with shrimp instead of a large prawn like most spring rolls, This had some tragic looking little. Shrimp in the bottom that were very suspicious to me. I didn't wanna eat them so I gave them to the dog. The chicken satay was very dry definitely overcooked and although the sticky rice with mango tasted good the presentation was really unattractive. I appreciate the ability to order and pay online for my take out order. My only complaint was that utensils were not included with my order. I ordered the khao man gai, which was really good. I came here because of the great Yelp reviews and was excited to try it, but honestly I was really disappointed. I ordered the vegan Pad See Ew and vegan Penang curry with sticky rice, both Thai spicy. The Panang curry was better than the noodles, but neither dish was actually spicy. For something marked Thai spicy, both were pretty mild and lacked the bold flavor I was expecting. The vegan Pad See Ew was the biggest letdown. It had a very overpowering mushroom taste, and some of the mushrooms seemed thick and undercooked, which made the dish hard to enjoy. The tofu also looked slightly burned. On top of that, the pickup experience felt rude. When I arrived, the lady at the table handed me my food and walked away without saying anything. Since it was my first time there, I stood by the door for about a minute unsure if that was my full order or if she was coming back, but she never did. Overall, I feel this place is overly hyped. We found this place on the way to Lake Tahoe and decided to give it a try. The menu had a wide variety of options including curry, noodles, and dessert. We got the pumpkin curry and drunken noodles. This is our favorite Thai place in the Roseville area. Everyone we come here the service is quick and efficient! Our go to's are the mango curry and the steamed dumplings (I think that's the name!) They are always sooo yummy and I want to get 2 orders instead of just one! For my entree, I normally get the wok your way or noodles your way. Something about just putting together what I want to eat is always a great way to go! Highly recommend any of the entrees as I haven't tried all of them but the ones I have had are good. We never go during the super busy times so I'm not sure what it's like. But when we are there it is always quiet, which we won't complain about. I came in to order some dinner for my client. I walked into a not too busy restaurant just before 6:30 p.m. I ordered her a double shrimp with chicken Pad d Thai. She didn't want carrots, green onions, tofu, or peanuts. She also wanted streamed pork dumplings, so I got one of those, too. After putting in the order, it was $54 & change... I sat and waited for about 15 minutes at their bar top. Without my phone in hand, I read their menu and saw that it was happy hour. I only saw the HH menu for appetizers, which was $1 off selected apps. The color scheme inside is a cherry red in the walls with dim lighting. All the servers were very polite and from my angle, I can see the kitchen working hard. When I received my order, I decided to check it before I left. First, I was missing one the orders of steamed dumplings. Also, there was barely any shrimp, although I paid for extra shrimp. One of the servers could tell I had concerns and after asking me if I needed something, she took the Pad Thai back to the kitchen. Within minutes, I received the correct order of Pad Thai and the 2nd order of dumplings. I drove back to my clients house and I served her up half of her Pad Thai and gave her some dumplings, which came with a sauce. The dumplings were pretty tough. Hard to even cut through with a knife. The meat inside was not tender at all, but it was a big piece of ground pork, just not tender at all, so maybe it was overcooked. The sauce was pretty sweet. No spice at all. I tried a bite of the Pad Thai. It had really good flavor. I wish my client had gotten it with veggies, lol Although they forgot to give me an appetizer and the 2nd order of shrimp I paid for... their great customer service over came some of the frustration. I came here for lunch after getting my car serviced in Rocklin. The place looks established for several years with nice Asian decorations. There was a good sized lunch crowd so service was a little slow as there was only 1 waitress. The menu revealed both Thai and Chinese dishes. My pork dumplings were about average. Today we made a large takeout order for our family on Father's Day. We specifically requested all the dishes at spice level one, but all of them were at spice level two and too spicy for most of my grandchildren to eat. This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area without a doubt. There is a packed house every time we go, and I always order the Pad Thai with shrimp at a level 2 spice. Aside from the Pad Thai, we ordered the fried crab wontons for an appetizer, green curry, and the mango sticky rice for dessert. The crab wontons had amazing texture, but I felt as if they lacked any flavor of crab. The Pad Thai was amazing as usual, and the depth of flavor in the green curry was fantastic. You have to watch out on the spice level though. We got a level 1 spice for the curry, and it came out spicier than you would think. The server let us know that the green curry is naturally spicier than others, so keep that in mind before ordering. The last thing I'll say is that if you like mango sticky rice, you have to come try it here. The mangos were delectable, and the rice was super chewy and lightly sweetened with the syrup. read more

My dish didn't have the correct spice level, they FORGOT an entire appetizer(and they even got the same appetizer for the table who had ordered it AFTER US). Issue with the Pad Thai: That quintessential peanut flavor was replaced by a strong sour vinegar flavor, overpowering any other ounce of flavor. Issue with the Chow Mein: Flavorless, even at spice level 1, I understand this is Rocklin so it's not the most... spice inclined are, but even at spice level 1, it was utterly flavorless and the noodles were somehow undercooked? Issue with Pork Dumplings: Slimy outer, with nothing special on the inside. Now we're not food critics but we've had Thai food all over the greater Sacramento area. With that being said, save yourself a trip, save your palate and save your money. I pray to GOD that we just got a bad batch by a chef that was having an awful day. We always come here and order the same thing: fresh rolls with mango and avocado (they have the best peanut sauce to go with it), a noodle dish, curry dish, and thai iced tea. Service and food consistency has been a hit or miss and can bring the experience down to a 2-3, within past half year has mostly been a miss. There was an odd experience where the server checked on us 5 minutes after the food came out to our table to see if we wanted the check and then twice more times after that within a span of 30 minutes which we had to politely repeatedly decline. Haven't seen the server before so suspect she was new but it was off putting and uncomfortable and this wasn't close to closing or peak time at all. Another time, there was one server responsible for all the tables so naturally it was a struggle for the poor guy and all patrons. There was another time where the kitchen accidentally made my level 4 spice as level 0 (no spice). I believe service and food consistency are things that can be improved and as I mentioned, at its peak, this is a great restaurant that serves delicious Thai food. read more

My friend and I always go to Ruen Thai and a coworker suggested this establishment. We came during lunch time and it wasn't too busy. I ordered a Pad Kee Mao with beef, spice level 2. The food took a while to come out but it was well worth the wait. The noodles were nice and brown. Sometimes with the Pad Kee mao/thicker noodles, other restaurants don't allow the noodles to fully brown so I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I was shook because there were so many layers of flavoring and the beef was cooked nicely as well. This dish was authentic and comparable to the quality you would get in Thailand. Ambiance is chill. Place isn't too overly decorated and everything looks clean. Bathrooms were clean. Service was just okay; our waitress did not offer to even refill our waters. BWE and I love this spot but we haven't been in a while. It hasn't changed and doesn't disappoint. BWE had the crispy pork belly with broccolini (level 2), and I had the green curry with beef (level 3). The server asked if I was sure I wanted that level of spice. It was spicy but soooo good and not too spicy that I couldn't taste the food. For me, it was just right. BWE loved her food. The crispy pork belly had the perfect balance of flavors.
