This used to be one of our fave sushi place until we visited early this month with families from Chicago. We were seated in one table.. we were 6 of us. We ordered our drinks and appetizers.. our drinks came too long.. until our appetizers came.. we have a 3 year old and we ordered chicken for her and the usual favorite sushi.. our food came in more than an hour after and I have to ask our waiter where's our food as we noticed other 2 tables that came in a little later than us were served first. Another thing is that my daughter noticed the servers were sweeping the floor and picking up dirty plates and then serving again without washing their hands WHAT !!!! Brooks was a great service and has been since we have been in here, we moved here about 3 months ago and come on the regular. The hostess is rude and literally we came here, the hottest slapped the menus on the table when she sat our table(you could hear it ) , doesn't ask for drinks or let customers know any specials. I'm in the industry and understand being slammed and overwhelmed but have a smile on your face and at least take the extra COUPLE OF SECONDS to make sure the customers doesn't feel like an issue???? I would give ZERO stars if I could, but walking in, the atmosphere is nice. They have a bar with TVs and also table seating. We started off with calamari as an appetizer. That was the last time our waiter came to our table. We were given no napkins or plates. The calamari was greasy and too chewy. We had also ordered two rolls to start off (usually get 4-6 rolls). The restaurant was about 20% full but the sushi took about 25 minutes to receive. Someone dropped off the sushi with no plates or napkins... (not our waiter, he never came back) and no one ever checked on us. The rolls were very tiny (girth) and almost half of them were missing either the eel or the avocado. Which turned out to be a good thing cause it did not taste fresh. We sat for about 15 minutes, with dishes stacked, waiting for SOMEONE to bring our check... we ended up walking to the front to get our check and pay. This was our favorite place for sushi. We have been talking about it since it opened to friends and family. We had family visiting from out of state and it was my husbands birthday, so I called to see if the 8 of us could have a table but still enjoy the all you can eat sushi..: the young lady on the phone said no! I explained it is our favorite Restaurant and we have talked it up so much to our family and that it was my husbands birthday! She still said no!!!! So we went somewhere else! My partner and I came here on a Tuesday night for the all you can eat special. One thing to note is that AYCE is only available at the bar which is mentioned on their website. Overall, we had a great experience. The waitress introduced us to the sushi chefs as we sat down and Chef Brian explained the whole dining process. We really appreciated that he made us a sampler platter with the most popular rolls since it was our first time eating there. Our favorites were the Mountain, Mt Rainier, Trapper, and the Rainbow rolls. We definitely look forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu! read more

God, I don't know what has happened to this establishment. What was once a restaurant I praised and took all my family and friends has become one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. The food has made a quick downhill turn in quality down to the fish, miso soup and desserts. Majority of the staff I once favored and thoroughly enjoyed have seemingly disappeared overnight and in personal experience that reflects the management and the treatment of the staff, and the new staff is just not up to par with their service. Whitney, the GM, is just an example of unprofessional and should be looked at among corporate. Sad to say, I probably will never come back here. I might try the other locations in AZ. I just had ACL surgery recently and I wanted to eat AYCE sushi, I came here to give the place a try. When I entered they told me AYCE was only for the bar. Unfortunately, I can't sit on a high bar chair cause of my recent surgery. The hosts were basically fine with throwing me out and it felt like they thought I was lying, until I showed them my scar. Knowing there's not a disabled section to access their full menu is kinda sad. Fortunately, they spoke to the managers and the managers were able to accommodate me. I although found it annoying how the servers keep repeat "we don't normally do this." Like no shit, that's why it's happening, you don't have to repeat yourself. It doesn't end here. Their lunch AYCE is $21.95. And it's only rolls, no nigiri, no appetizers. If you go to other AYCE sushi places for that price, appetizers, nigiri, a drink, and dessert is also included. It doesn't end there. I found hair in my Trapper roll. Which btw the roll was good once they gave me a new plate. Kinda sucks that I found hair in the food for my first time eating at the place. It doesn't end there. The wasabi isn't good, it doesn't mix well in the soy sauce, and it's not spicy. Probably the worst wasabi I've ever had. Also, you would think for a sushi place you'd see the traditional Japanese sushi chefs. They're not. If you're looking for good traditional sushi, try another spot. This all you can eat sushi spot will change your life. They've recently opened a location in Arizona. They started off in Washington state with about 10 locations I believe. I cannot get enough of their sushi. Me and my husband live 6 hours away in Texas and we were thrilled to learn that trappers was opening up a location in Arizona. We just had to come here for a mini vacation. My favorite rolls are the trump and mt rainier. They have lunch and dinner AYCE as well if you sit in the bar. We came back here for a second time because our first visit worked out really well the food was good and we actually got full off a single role. We came back for a second time and ordered three rolls, bill will be at least $70 at the least and the rolls are as small as I could imagine they're literally like One person could finish 2 to 3 rolls this time. I'm not sure if they're trying to save money or what the idea os, but you can definitely see how ridiculous the size decreased. We ordered three rolls and they were able to fit them on one plate that's how small they were. The food is priced well. The lunch All you can eat is my favorite. That's honestly the only thing that keeps me coming back. Every single time I have been here, there is some sort of issue with service. I come in an hour before close and the hostess made it apparent that they did not want me there. I come in during lunch special, sometimes you get a chef that will take 2 orders at a time, other times you get another chef that will treat you like you're stupid and proceed to give you a 2 minute lecture on food waste. I do feel for the wait staff, which is separate from the sushi chefs at the bar, they are clearly overworked and often appear stressed out. I was able to overhear that one of the waiters is unable to take a vacation because he would have to get someone to cover his shift a month in advance. Overall, food is good. Price is good. Service is either stressful or just plain rude. If you can handle bad or antagonistic service for good food at a good price, this is a good spot for you read more

Hi there, first off we are huge fans of Trappers sushi. We have eaten at this Avondale location some 10-12 times times in the 8-10 months. We eat out a lot, and eat sushi quite often. OKAY??!!! What is going on with this location. We were in there last week, and it was more about confusion than serving food and your customers. Soon after we sat at the all you can eat part, the bar, I asked if they could put the hockey game on, they said okay. There are 6 tv in your restaurant, 5 of them on MMA and 1 on Lakers BBall game. We order food, and after some 10 minutes, I ask our waitress and your hostess again if they can get the hockey game on a Tv, they said okay. Some 10-15mins go by, and so I ask our chef, (( and he has red coat so a "manager")) hey ? Is there anyway to get the hockey game on one of these televisions? He says sure, gets a young man on it, and of course through THE ENTIRE time from there, nothing was ever done to effect that, nor did anyone come back and say anything to us. I scanned your customers, and NOBODY is paying any attention to your televisions at all. We witnessed (and listened to) your chefs making roles incorrectly (they admitted to customer, and said out loud for us to hear, "sorry made this wrong, is it okay to serve this to you anyway" , sorry ?). They made a warrior role for us ( I/we have ordered and eaten this role probably 5-7 times in the past) but that night it was blistering hot , UNEDIBLE and we didn't go past that, left it untouched. We ask for the small dish/carafe that holds soy sauce for the roles, they say okay, it never appears. We ask for napkins, they say okay and the napkins never appear. This is NOT the first time crap like this happens at this location. HONESTLY we don't know what to do,, HOW DO WE TIP FOR THAT. What is going on at this location. HOW DO WE PAY for this experience. We pay our bill, minimal if NO tip. So since we really like Trappers food, we go to the Surprise location instead. Been there twice now, and here we are back to good service and great food. So ?? I am asking you, what do we do in that instance, how do we pay for this nonsense. How do your "red coat" chefs present the food as made incorrectly and "hey ? Do you want it anyway??" How do we pay for incorrectly made food. Is it our job to accept incorrectly prepared food. What do we do in this instance. Do we walk out and not pay anything for the service or food, which was a "hot mess" . We used to put up with mediocre service because the food is/was outstanding. Now we don't even have good food there. That night before we paid our bill, my wife and I had a serious discussion about the bill. Do we really pay for this ? How can we tip this? Such a great eating experience! Everyone from the sushi chefs to the servers were such high energy and fun personalities. It was the kind of place where you could tell everyone working was having fun and you just wanted to be a part of it! The GM, Ms. Whitney, was one of the most personable people I've had the pleasure of meeting. She was out engaging with all the customers and making sure everyone was enjoying their food and time! Not to mention she has a great taste in music so she made a great DJ! Finally the food was delicious - the all you can eat is the best way to go.
