My tenant's electric dryer stopped working. I contacted Travis County Appliance repair online, they responded quickly and I finalized the scheduling of the repair by calling their friendly phone person. They came next day, and gave excellent update on their arrival time. My tenant stated that MIKE GRIMM only took 20 minutes to diagnose and fix the issue (a thermostat) and was extremely friendly. My tenant is happy with the repair and told me he would give them 5 stars. A serious issue came during billing. They did the work without giving me a call to approve it. Frankly that doesnt worry me too much if the price is fair, but the bill came for something completely unreasonable, like close to $400. I choked when I saw that bill. I emailed them and told them that there was NO WAY I would pay that amount for such as simple fix. In my head, I was willing to fight this if needed. Frankly, my handyman probably would have fixed this for less than $100 but he wasnt available and I didnt want to let my tenant without a dryer for too long. They gave me an explanation that didnt make complete sense. They said there was a mixup with another landlord who approves jobs without authorization and that this was his bill not mine. Suddenly my bill was cut in half. Still a bit high, but this is crazy Austin. I paid, but I can't help thinking something was shady with the hold thing. As a result, I am not sure I will use them again, even though my tenant said they were great. read more

We had a washing machine that started bucking violently during its spin cycle. TCAR came highly recommended by Yelpers so we reached out via their website. Their "dispatch" sent us a confirmation of our request, and later, a text outlining what day and time frame that their specialists could come out. If we confirmed, we were on their schedule. When they arrived at the house, the repair guys were very quick in diagnosing a problem. They gave us a fair quote for replacing the part, but suggested we buy a new washer since the cost of the repair was about the same cost as new unit. We did have to pay their show-up fee, which was $100 when tax was added, but we wouldn't have been able to diagnose the problem on our own and it was good to have a professional tell us what was up. I mean, it could've been a $30 fix or a $300 fix, who knew but them? Will keep these guys in mind for any other repairs we might need. read more

So I have a 10 year old Bosch oven and my wife has been complaining about it not holding temps for a while now. I'm thinking I need to buy a $4000 new oven since it is so old. Mike (the repair tech) really impressed me. My 5 year old GE dishwasher had gone silent, and I decided to call a repair team. I used Yelp and requested quotes, and said "yes, have other companies provide quotes". Travis County wasn't the company I had selected to get my initial quote from, but they replied quickly (first) with a proposed time slot the next day. After no other replies came back that day I confirmed the appointment... and I am glad I did. Mike initially diagnosed the problem as the drain pump and came back the next day with the pump and replaced it. It would have been great had the repair worked but it turned out that my boards were fried and needed to be replaced....a much more expensive repair. So what impressed me was I was only charged the $95 diagnostic service charge. I was not charged for the new pump that stayed on my washer. So I get to decide on a repair or a new washer. Either way, Travis County will do the repair or the install. The punchline...I don't know if the are the least expensive service team, but I know they are on time, transparent with their diagnosis, and most importantly very honest. I recommend TCAR. read more

I had an issue with my dish washer not starting and tried all the home remedies but couldn't seem to figure out the issue. I called Travis county appliance repair on a Saturday and they were responsive. A lot of appliance repair companies were closed on the weekends but this company was opened on a Saturday. I explained my issue and asked if they serviced Bosh dishwashers and they did. They scheduled me with Mike Grimm for the next business day. He was very knowledgeable about Bosch dishwashers. He didn't waste time but investigated the issue and found that the power control box cord was broken. The dishwasher was still good. He ordered the parts and came back in 2 days. The pricing was fair and Mike explained throughly what caused the issue and what was needed to be fixed. There's a free 180 day warranty on parts and labor after work gets completed. I look forward to using this company again in the future. read more

WARNING INTEGRITY IS A TRIGGER WORD! This is my first ever review, but the world needs to be warned. EDIT This man, Michael M is a LIAR. I never called him a scammer. I told him he had a lack or integrity. I am fully aware that parts are required to fix an appliance. He is STILL missing the point. He charged for work that was not done. That is having a lack of integrity. Good service requires ensuring that the repair was made not "appearing" that it was. Stop making excuses for your behavior and la k of integrity, Michael M! The repairman "fixed" my locked washer. As he was walking out he asked my daughter to run it to make sure it worked. It didn't but he left before noticing. Since it was only a few minutes after the repairman's departure I called them back. A man who seemed to be the owner answered and told me that I had paid a diagnosis fee so it wouldn't have been repaired. I let him know that I paid $183 not the $95 diagnosis fee. I asked him if the repairman could go back and fix the washer. He said he couldn't because he doesn't have the parts. I then questioned him about the repair fee since there was no repair. He immediately became irate. He told me it wasn't his fault I "was too dumb to understand" and that I was "fucking stupid". After he saw that he had charged for a repair he told me he would refund me that portion but never to call again. In his eyes, me being reimbursed for the repair portion erased the fact that I was charged without a repair. I never expected a free diagnosis. I expected a repair if I was charged for one. My washer wasn't fixed and now I have to pay another person to diagnose it. The behavior of this business' manager is some of the worst I've come in contact with. Don't hire them! read more

I got in contact with Michael on a Friday night and he was able to schedule a visit for Saturday the next morning; we handled most of the communication in-between through Yelp and once he got to the property he was very quick and thorough diagnosing the issue; he was quickly to point out that with the amount of service required it'd be cheaper just to get a new refrigerator. Honest, trustworthy, and professional! I messaged Mike on a weekend, he gve me a tip on how I may be able to fix the issue with my stackable GE washer/dryer myself. Nogo, so I messaged him Sunday afternoon asking for his first available the following week. I was thrilled to get a Tuesday appointment (next business day since the weekend counts as Monday), and just wish that the code on my washer indicting a failed lid lock had been the issue after all. Once that didn't fix it, we had abrief chat and Mike explained why it may be the control board and may be the electrical wiring since he found evidence of previous electrical work done not far from the lid lock area. I've decided to replace my used stackable with new, and know that if I ever have an issue with the new one, I will DEFINITELY use Travis County Appliance Repair. I'm also happy enough with how I was treated, and how honest they are that I will happily recommend them to anyone who has appliance issues. I had a dryer making a clunking sound so I reached out to these guys. They were great. John, the technician, was very upfront about the cost of a service call and even provided an estimate of what he thought the parts might cost just based on my description of what was happening. Turned out to be a loose screw, which he tightened and got everything working again. I just had to pay for the service call so I was really thankful to have gotten everything back in order at such a reasonable cost. It looks like someone harassed them with a 1-star review below, which I can't comment on, but I will offer that I had a great experience with these guys. A few days later the same thing happened and I was scared they were going to get me on the hook for another visit/repair. I was relieved to hear my warranty covered the new repair because it was linked to the initial reason I called. No extra charge for the visit, parts, or labor. We've had Michael help us with a couple of appliance repairs, and both times he's been professional, efficient, courteous, and gave us reasonable prices. The first time was for our Samsung dryer, which we diagnosed as having a broken dryer belt. We probably could have replaced it ourselves, but with a four-month-old to take care of, we opted to just hire a professional. I got a few quotes from businesses on Yelp, and Michael responded quickly with a reasonable price. We scheduled an appointment via text, and he was prompt throughout our interaction, texting to let me know he was on his way, etc. He came in and replaced the belt and even gave us tips on basic appliance repairs. The second time, we needed help installing a replacement range hood over our stovetop. This was during shelter-in-place (May 2020). Michael came in with a mask, went straight to work, and got in and out in less than 30 minutes. I was on a work call and didn't have much time to interact, but he had everything he needed to get the job done. Michael is now our go-to for home repairs and installations. You know that feeling when you take the dishes out of the dishwasher and think -- I don't think these are clean? Yeah, we had that happen. So, who ya gonna call? Well, I called Travis County Appliance Repair via YELP. Michael responded very quickly and had us set up for a next-day appointment. Less than 24 hours later, he was at our door and ready to troubleshoot! Now, quick sidebar -- I've fixed this dishwasher before. I fancy myself as being pretty handy. Google said it was either the pump or motherboard. I thought about ordering a pump... but ya know... sometimes... you just want it fixed without having to go thru the whole learning process. Anyways, back to Michael -- he was troubleshooting the dishwasher, checked voltages, and came to the same conclusion -- looks like it needs a pump. Gave us a quote, and said it would be 2 days. Awesome -- let's do it. But then something amazing happened. When he was putting the dishwasher back in place (since it was going to be 2 days for parts) _HE_ heard the pump turn back on. And said -- did you hear that? Your pump is working. Went back and did some checking and like magic, the dishwasher is working. So -- what does that tell me? Well, it might have been a loose wire. But what it also shows is how honest Michael is. Michael could have easily sold me a pump -- and as he said, it still might need one -- but right now, it is working. Paid the $129 diag fee for the dishwasher and off he went. Honest, thorough troubleshooting, good communication, and prompt. Really, more would you want in a repair guy? Highly recommend. read more
