Unfortunately for us, the 30+-year-old appliance was not worth fixing, but for the reasonable service call fee, we were able to confirm our assumptions. It does not happen often.... you flip through the pages of New York Times' Magazine on a leisurely Sunday and surprisingly find out... "Hey!!! It's my repairman they're writing here!" The article was, of course, about ping-pong and food. But how cool is that??!! The coolness aside, Tom had fixed our appliances many times. He's very knowledgeable and he tells you as it is... no sugar coated stuff. He's always prompt and very polite. He also charges reasonably. Our first appliance that Tom fixed was our washing machine. We bought the washing machine from Sears. We first called Sears and was told the first appointment was 4 days away. But we kind of needed the washing machine quickly or we would've had to resort to going to coin operated laundry establishment. We called Tom on a friend's recommendation. He did a fantastic job diagnosing the issue, finding a solution, and communicating what had likely happened; it left us feeling very confident in the fix. This guy is great! I especially contacted him for his extra C19 safety precautions. He came out at the last minute because my 70's oven was making this really annoying noise. My several-year-old KitchenAid refrigerator recently developed a "burned" smell. I found a company online that sounded like they specialized in KitchenAid appliances & made an appointment for one of their service people. I didn't like the sound/attitude of the guy who answered the phone & after several hours, I cancelled the appointment. They turned out not to be KitchenAid specialists after all. Then I found Fleshman Appliance Repair online & spoke with a very nice gentleman on the phone. Had never used them. I made an appointment with Tom Fleshman, who also was listed as a specialist with KitchenAid. He called my phone on the way, just as I was expecting. He arrived at the appointed time & replaced a temporary capacitor that he had on his truck. Over the weekend he ordered the proper KitchenAid capacitor & came back to install it as promised the following Monday. He called each time to let me know he was on his way. Fleshman Appliance has been my go-to appliance repair company for several years. Tom's service has been impeccable (as my prior 5 star review indicates). About a week ago, he failed to show up for an appointment. Our appointment was set for 9:00. When he was over an hour late, I called to see if I'd somehow missed him. He said no: he hadn't been sure if the time we set was 9:00 or 11:00, and had decided that it was set for 11:00. I told him that 11:00 would be fine. But he didn't come then, either. He just never called or showed up. In my opinion, not showing up is a big deal that warrants a one-star review, hence this update of my prior, extremely positive review. I'm giving him three stars instead of one star for a couple of reasons. His past work has been excellent, and it's possible that he couldn't call because of a bad accident or extended illness. read more

When we called him to look at our washing machine, he told us that it would cost more to replace the sensor board in it, and showed us how to get the last months out of it. He charged a nominal amount when he could have soaked me for the cost of the board. Fast forward a few months; we called him to come fix our oven that wouldn't heat up. He shows up, he's in, he's out, and it's working better than I would ask for a brand new oven. He's ultra-conscientious about social distancing, and he brings new gloves, mask, booties, the whole bit for each job. He's straight forward and honest. People who give one star because he won't work in their area, when it's plainly stated on his website, etc. is just ridiculous and unfair. Tom's not rude, he's just honest and straightforward, stellar qualities if you ask me. I don't need my ass kissed, I just need my dryer fixed. When our oven went out, I posted a Talk thread asking for recommendations for a reliable, honest service person. Tom Fleshman was immediately recommended by several people, and let me tell you, this is one of the best parts of Yelp. This guy is amazing. He called me back within an hour of my leaving a message on his phone. He confirmed my zip code to make sure I lived within his service area, and then suggested a day/time he could come by. It is so nice to have a specific time agreed upon, rather than "sometime between 12 and 5". About fifteen minutes before the appointed time, he called my phone to let me know he was close. Big bonus points for Tom for communication and reliability. In person he's as nice as can be. We discussed the problems I was having, and he dove right into the work. Within fifteen minutes he had figured out what was wrong, and he made a call to his parts supplier to confirm the availability and price of the needed parts. We agreed that he would call me once he had the part and schedule a time to come back out to install it. Before he left, he gave me the exact price it will cost to buy the part and install it - no phantom charges, everything clearly stated up front. He told me he does not charge multiple trip charges when he has to come back, so there would be only one trip charge for both visits. Within a couple of days he called again, showed up again on time (with a specific hour appointment), and installed the part. The oven works fine now. All in all, Tom Fleshman was an excellent service provider, and I would not hesitate for a moment to recommend him to others. He was honest, reliable and friendly. read more

I just had a great experience with Fleshman even though they couldn't fix my problem. I thought I had a broken dryer but it turned out that it just wasn't getting power from the wall. If only they were electricians as well. Father/Son team were super helpful and explained a lot and even went so far as to temporarily connect the dryer to aux power to show that it worked. I forgot to ask for an electrician recommendation but I guess that's what yelp is for. I would have minused a star for them not being electricians but how dumb would that be. Tom lives very close to me and gets outstanding reviews on yelp. So when the little freezer at the coffee shop went out, there was no question who I'd call. However, we were a little concerned that it might be more cost-effective to just buy a new one. I called Tom and left a message. He promptly called me back, asked a couple of diagnostic questions, and said, "I think I could fix it for $125 but those things are so darn cheap now, you'd probably be better-off just buying a new one. Tom's great. If he can fix it, he'll tell you. If he thinks it would be better to just get a new one, he'll tell you. And so on. One thing though, which is sort of major: He doesn't work on all brands. Asko, Bosch, LG, Samsung, Subzero or Haier are brands he doesn't do (you find this list on his website). Which kind of sucks for me because I love Bosch, though they rarely break down. The other thing is he has a limited service area. I don't dock stars for these things because that's like complaining a brain surgeon won't operate on your broken leg. He does what he does where he does, and does it very well. read more

He was able to fix an oven that was born in 1970 and should have been Old Yellered long ago, as well as fix our clothes dryer in record time.
