This review is LONG overdue. First things first, Travis is an incredible stylist. He studies his craft extensively and does it WELL. I've gone through several major hairstyle changes, and he does a great job with every one of them. His priority first and foremost is the clients' hair. Although his approach is your typical asian hairstylist, where they will tell you bluntly what would look best for your features, Travis has always respected what I wanted for my hair and what was in my comfort zone. When we first met, I floated the idea that I wanted to cut my hair short and I can tell he was excited to make it happen. After booking the dates, I kept changing my mind over the course of months. He was so patient with me and told me "i want to make sure you aren't upset [with your hair]". It was the confirmation I needed to not feel guilty for wasting so much of his time going back and forth on the idea. My first time siting in his chair, I was so nervous because my hair hadn't been cut in years and I was letting the split ends grow out. Honestly, I was convinced I ruined it after bleaching it several years prior. Travis assured me that my hair was healthy and offered a blowout treatment that left my hair feeling incredibly soft and silky. Travis is definitely a person you either vibe with or you don't, but you can tell he's genuinely appreciative of his clients, especially the returning ones. He will message me on occasion to check in on my hair and take into consideration the growth rate of my hair for my next appointment. Whenever I come in, I don't feel obligated to put on a happy face and he understands. Some days, he'll just put on some music and work in silence or some others, he'll just listen while I yap. He's also so generous, when I was just learning to take care of my hair. He got me a boar bristle brush, as well as small bottles of brand new shampoo and conditioner, to help with some oiliness issues that I had. I was so touched by how much he wanted to help me fix whatever issues I was having with my hair and this is a consideration he's carried throughout the time I've known him. I've gone from long hair to bangs to jellyfish cut to blonde to bob to pink/purple bob. Some of these cuts are pretty challenging to make look good, but he does it so well. read more

I've continued seeing Travis for nearly 2 years after my first review, and for good reason! I am so happy to have been able to find a go-to hairstylist that specializes in Asian hair, gone are the days with jumping between salons and questionable layers. Travis is extremely talented and knowledgeable in haircuts. His haircuts are truly personalized for your hair texture, head shape, and everything in between. His cuts are not just a copy and paste to every client, and that's why I think I used to end up with botched layers in the past with other stylists. My hair type is fine and layers can be tricky for my hair as they can end up looking very scraggly or messy at the end pieces, but Travis makes my layers look so cohesive and full of movement and he will absolutely not do you wrong with scraggly ends!! I've been seeing him for almost two years now since the earlier days. And I've honestly seen so much growth (from him and my hair). He's super passionate about hair and really intentional about helping you look your best. During consultations, he evaluates your face shape, hair texture, and long-term goals and gives his professional opinion on what would suit you. Now to my hair experience, my goal has always been growing my hair long and healthy while maintaining color, and he's absolutely delivered. I drive from LA to see him monthly or every other month because I trust no one else with my hair. When I first came to him, my hair was overly bleached and damaged. We cut it to above my chest to start fresh in the beginning. He educates me on products and upkeep, and checks in on my growth. Now it's the longest it's ever been, reaching my glutes, and still healthy! As for color, He maintained my copper for over a year, experimenting with tones until we found the right fit, and eventually recommended me toward a deeper cherry brown that complements my skin so well. We refreshed my layers with the transformation and I've gotten so many compliments! Choosing a stylist you trust isn't easy, but for me, it's his honesty, craft, care, and consistent results that keep me coming back. To be fair, seeing him a few times in the beginning was a bit awkward. He can be quite soft spoken. He still is soft spoken but I see more spark in him when he goes in detail about hair and his salon! Unfortunately, I will give Travis 2 starts for my experience. He did a really great job with my haircut at but at the cost of an unsafe and uncomfortable environment. My appointment was at 1pm. His pre-appointment text message said that he has a grace period of 15 minutes, so of course I make sure I got there early. I arrived 10 minutes before 1pm, and let him know only to be told that he is finishing up with a client. Of course, I said okay and I waited outside... Time passed and he still wasn't done at 1:30 pm. I almost walked out but I didn't. I got inside and he was immediately pissed. No "hello" or "hi" or "sorry I was late". He pointed at the chair aggressively and said "sit". From then on, I felt confused and scared - what did I do, but wait? He aggressively shampooed my hair and basically didn't speak to me for the duration of the haircut. Towards the end, he cooled down and finally talked to me. He said that his last client took forever and basically didn't tell him the kind of cut she wanted and that he was running behind. I felt so uncomfortable that he was talking bad about a client. All I said was "I'm sorry..." The whole interaction was just so awkward, and I couldn't wait to leave. So sad because his work really is great, and I assume that is why he has some great reviews. I am unsure why I was treated so badly for waiting for my appointment. Seems like there needs to be work on customer service, arrogance, emotional regulation and time management from his part. I noticed that there was no clock anywhere in the salon- might I suggest one? I hesitated to leave this review for the fear of retaliation, but it seems that I am not the only one with this treatment. read more

I have been seeing a lot of reviews commenting and calling Travis arrogant on yelp and I wanted to give my feedback on this matter because I don't feel like anyone deserves that. I have been a client of Travis for a long time now and even though he is introverted and soft spoken, his work always delivers as he portrays his passion by being informative and honest with all of his clients. He is a stylist not a specialist, so even if he works on asian hair he is not someone that can help w/ the damage of your hair, he told me the same that my hair was damaged from years of bleaching and that I needed to use more products to keep my hair healthy. I prefer my cosmetic people to be REAL and HONEST w me about the status of my hair, nails, skin, etc. so I can receive feedback and learn how to take better care of myself instead of a stylist just smiling and lying to my face just to get a tip. I also took it that he is very knowledgeable about hair and CARES about the maintenance in the long-term and not just outcome look at the end of the appointment that many stylist prioritize without considering the health of your hair - that is one of the main reasons he is booked and busy. If you can't receive constructive criticism then go to an extroverted stylist, but personally, I would drop a stylist that was overly nice but did not care about my hair in the slightest. read more

I want to start by highlighting that he does good work. Despite reading some negative reviews, I decided to go ahead and try his services. My first consultation a year ago was very informative and positive--there were no issues at all. Around 10 months later, after a haircut while traveling in Asia in between, I contacted him again to book another appointment. He told me he was moving salons, and unfortunately, his next availability didn't work with my upcoming trip, so I had to go elsewhere. I made it clear that I valued his work and wanted to return as a client. Fast forward, I went to him a second time a year later. He asked me to come earlier, which was no problem. But initially, when I came in, he was speaking monotone, pretty fast-paced. Had me sit down in the chair, tossing my hair forward and back aggressively, asking what I wanted. He pointed out that I went to someone else multiple times. When he was washing my hair, it felt pretty aggressive, even cutting my hair and brushing it. There was a point where he was trimming my hair when wet, and his hand would graze over my nipple, which might have been unintentional; I wasn't sure if it was an accident. I understand I have a lot of hair, but he would be sighing throughout the session. He would also be opening and closing drawers in a rough manner. At one point, he grabbed one of the hair product bottles and threw it back onto the counter. He pointed out how I hadn't gone to him at least twice, and I went elsewhere to "someone else". I tried explaining the situation, but he kept reiterating that if I liked his work to "stick with him". About halfway in, I just asked him if everything was okay because he kept sighing and putting his phone down and checking his phone again in between managing my hair. He told me how he had moved me earlier and "assumed my hair wouldn't take this long". Now his next appointment came early, and my hair was going to take longer. He commented on other clients, and when a client was outside, he said, "Oh shit, did she hear that?". He also commented on how many round brushes are in my hair, saying, "That's $800 in your head," and how he needs to buy more. At one point, I realized I felt genuinely scared and uncomfortable. I was alone in the salon room with him for at least the first half, and his energy felt tense and unpredictable. He did ask if I was okay, which I appreciated, but at that moment, I didn't feel safe speaking up because I didn't know how he might react, and I tried to remain calm. His demeanor only started to soften after I asked if he was okay. Overall, my main concern is that his demeanor and comments made me feel uncomfortable. This made me reluctant to speak up, as I worried about the outcome of my haircut or how he would respond. I believe clients deserve a welcoming environment, and sighing or tossing items is not appropriate. Additionally, he spoke negatively about other clients to me. I'm concerned he may also speak poorly of me as he has with others, and I don't think that's fair or professional. I'm not sure why some people have great experiences and others do not, based on the reviews. Maybe it was stress, but I still felt pretty uncomfortable from the experience. I'm sharing this so others are aware -- the work may be good, but the attitude and energy made it an experience I wouldn't want to repeat. read more

I've been going to Travis for a while now and I genuinely trust him with my hair. From the first appointment, he took time to understand what I wanted long term instead of just focusing on one visit. He's really thoughtful during consultations and pays attention to things like face shape, hair texture, and what will actually be realistic to maintain. Because of the care he puts into every appointment, my hair has never felt healthier or looked this good without having to style it. I have gotten cuts before and have consistently been happy with how everything turns out so much so that I plan to do my first ever coloring session with him soon. I really appreciated how he took his time and analyzed my hair. This is the first time anyone's ever taken the time to really look at head shape and tell me if a cut is going to look good or bad. I wanted to go short and he told me not yet as my layers were kind of everywhere and should grow it out a little more for a clean chop. This review is LONG overdue but feel the need to address as I have read similar experiences with my ONE and ONLY time getting a haircut from Travis. Had high hopes for him as he did a nice job on IG page. I saw him when he was working in Tustin/Irvine salon utilizing a booth space. I was a little early so he was finishing up and they were chatting and he was cursing. No big deal as i'm sure we all use profanity. He was chatty with the girl before me but I did not get that. I showed him an inspo photo and he immediately said "that won't work, her torso longer than yours" ok. "Something like that is fine. He then proceeds to insult me by saying how I have thick hair and that I should find a "specialist" that works on my type of hair. I felt and it came off as rude! I'm thinking, I'm Asian, don't you work on Asian hair? He then proceeds to check my hair out not feeling it and said that there is not much for him to do except to take a little off and that he will still charge me $90/$95 whatever his prices were. I've paid more for haircuts so it wasn't a concern. I said that's fine. The whole experience was just awkward, I've initiated the conversation by asking him questions and he would answer and not ask me anything besides who colors your hair what do you use and making suggestions on formula and products to use(told me to use serum and applied it on for me to show difference BEFORE he started My haircut/style. Initially, I thought he was going to turn me away during consultation but he didn't and it looked like he regretted it as his attitude changed from previous client. With some people, we just don't mesh well. I get it, i don't have sleek shiny hair, like most of his girls featured on his page, but at least fake it so i could enjoy the finish look. I left there tipping him $10 and like another person said, he did not deserve it. He was monotone and had no expression. Just complained on my hair texture, color and previous haircut lol he kept shaking his head. Finish look was ok. I know he was as hoping I didn't return. Oh, don't worry about that I can read body language well and know when my business is not welcomed! Stay away from his arrogance. He's not as great as he thinks he is. There are better hairdressers out there who are genuinely nice and will do great work without making you feel inferior. read more

I haven't come across a stylist who does hair like him and gives such good advice on how to take care of hair. I was in desperate need of a haircut and I still hadn't found a regular hairstylist that actually understood the complexities of my hair (super thick, really heavy, straight coarse asian hair). The first time I went was for a hush cut and toner. I never knew that my hair could have the amount of layers it does now, while still maintaining thickness and volume! Honestly, best haircut ive had in my entire life. Ive never had a hairdresser as meticulous and personalized as Travis! He really takes his time to ensure that the haircut he gives you is specific to you, he doesnt cop out and copy & pastes hairstyles but rather personalizes them to suit your face and features. He is so passionate and knowledgable about his work and you can really see that in the cuts that he does, especially so for asian hair! My biggest issue with my hair was that it was so thick and heavy and no other hairdresser was able to figure out how to lighten it but keep its volume.
