I'm really picky with who does my hair because I've had really botched haircuts before from people who don't specialize in Asian hair. I wanted long layers and found Travis via Instagram and all his pictures looked so good so I decided to book. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I kept trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but ultimately he had the worst attitude and acted really strange, so I was urged to post this review.
I never usually leave bad reviews but Travis made my entire haircut super uncomfortable. The second I was in his chair he seemed like he didn't want to be there. Everything felt rushed and he was talking in a really fast, monotone voice. He looked mad and didn't smile a single time during the haircut. He was also speaking super quietly, which made it really hard to hear him with all the salon noise in the background, however his snarky attitude made me not want to ask him to repeat himself. As he was explaining the haircut to me he started telling me that he just needs to explain these things to people because sometimes people just don't know what they're signing up for. He proceeded to trash talk his previous clients and called one of his past clients an "airhead" and telling me how he didn't even want to cut her hair. Obviously, I understand that stylists probably feel that way sometimes, but I find it extremely unprofessional to trash talk previous clients to other clients. It was my very first session with him also, so I don't know what made him feel comfortable enough to tell me all this.
There were a lot of other small instances that made me uncomfortable throughout the haircut besides the attitude, such as his aggressive shampooing and him pointing out how I need to change my screen protector (basically admitting to looking at my phone). I just tried to brush these aside. But then, when the cut started, he let me know that he was in a bad mood because he found out he got a bad review. I understand how a bad review made his day bad, hence the attitude. But at the same time, 1) I don't know why you would tell a first-time client you got a bad review, 2) He proceeded to angrily trash talk this reviewer to me. He vented about how he knew who left the review and told me that she left the bad review because she didn't like the haircut. After the bad experience I had, I was curious about the review, so I went to find it on this Yelp page and found that the review was SO MUCH WORSE than just a bad haircut. I was weary to even post this because I know he's probably gonna trash talk me to other clients now too.
Unfortunately, it kept getting worse. I was both tired from a long weekend and really uncomfortable, so at this point I didn't even want to talk to him. I'm a pretty outgoing and talkative person, so it says a lot that I didn't want to speak to him at all. As the haircut went on he started to say that my hair was hard to cut and "my face was hard to work with" whatever that means. I had to take my glasses off for the cut, so I couldn't really see my hair at this point. Earlier he asked me if I wanted to keep length, and I told him I wanted to keep as much length as possible. When I finally saw my hair, the layers were choppy and he cut off so much hair. He cut my front pieces shorter than my chin, which is ironic considering he posted on his Instagram story about how you should never cut above the chin. The layers didn't blend together at all and I think he knew he did a bad job. The reason I say this is because his haircuts start at $85, but when he went to give me the price he told me it was $45 and said "don't ask" regarding the low price... He also said something about how I was going to come in a second time, and he would message me about it, but I didn't hear him say why he wanted me to come in again.
I ended up messaging him and told him I remember him saying he would message me but I didn't hear why. He ended up just saying "I'm so sorry. My whole day went downhill. Please allow me a few days to recollect myself." I was so confused, I understand you had a bad day, but I just wanted to know why he said he was gonna message me and that I should come back? I allowed him a few days before checking in again, and then I got completely ghosted, which prompted me to write this review.
The entire situation was completely unprofessional and confusing. I was so uncomfortable with his attitude and I also don't like my haircut. I won't be coming back and I'm extremely confused how other people had such good experiences with him while I had the worse haircut experience of my life. I understand he had a bad day, but the unprofessionalism was insane. I hope he doesn't always act like this. read more
