We had our first meal in Carmel during a recent vacation after a recommendation from someone we just met in town. The place is adorable - quaint dining room and lovely patio (which we couldn't enjoy because of the cool weather). The menu was eclectic - Mediterranean, Italian?? Consistently good food and amazing service. Had the oso buco, calamari and pasta bolonese. All were delicious and on point. The sauce on the pasta was a tad sweet but still enjoyable. Came here for lunch. It was a pretty quiet day, and at first we wanted to enjoy the weather and sit outside - but we saw a lot of flies buzzing around so decided to sit indoors. For food, I ordered a hummus app and pasta bolognese. Not a typical pairing, but individually these are pretty standard dishes, and here they came out pretty standard. They did the job (i.e. made me full), but nothing too special about either one. read more

My boyfriend and I recently visited Monterey and Carmel for the weekend. We spent Saturday afternoon walking around downtown Carmel and looking for a nice place to enjoy lunch. We spotted the Tree House Cafe with its cute outside decor and immediately headed in. There was no wait and we got a big table on the outside patio underneath the trees. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. We ordered a bottle of the house cabernet, a greek burger for the boy, and a chicken pesto sandwich for me. Everything came out quickly and was delicious. My sandwich had a good pesto flavor, and not too much mozzarella (just the way I like it) and the the boy's greek burger was cooked as he ordered with good flavor as well. We took our time and enjoyed the beautiful weather in the tree house setting. I will definitely come back whenever I am in Carmel again! read more

This place is owned by the cousin of the owner of Demetria. Many of the same recipes. I only rated it a four because the entertainment at Demetria kicks it up a notch. The dipping oil for the bread is out of this world! We had a few apps and dessert. The chocolate cake was awesome, but needed a little salt to cut down the richness. Great amazing and caring staff. The place is gorgeous! It's a great place to have lunch at in Carmel it has lovely outdoor seating! And if you need wifi the staff is very generous to give you access. Love this place normally ! Drove 8 hours to stay in Carmel as i do every summer we have a place ! Took my husband here and what a disappointment ! We had a reservation for. Dinner and was craving coconut shrimp soup and found out they just took it off the menu starting that day ! We were already seated and another waiter asked to move us to a horrible table to make room for another couple ! That was a sign to get up and leave ! What a disappointment ! read more

Must have been a busy night because we were sat about 20 minutes after our 8:00pm reservation time. The waiter took a while to greet us as there was a large group nearby being attended to. We got the "chefs appetizer" since we were staying at a nearby Inn and it was hummus and nothing to get excited about pita bread. My husband and I ordered the kebabs (chicken and lamb) which were great but the rice tasted like it was cooked in the morning and then barely re-heated but we were starving so we ate it. The girl helping our waiter asked if we wanted a dessert menu and when I said I don't think so but my husband said what do you recommend her response was "well if you're full...." and then walked away. Who doesn't at least recommend something!? We were stunned but not surprised because the service was lackluster. I'd come back just to give it a second try before totally ruling it out. I wanted to try a new restaurant instead of going to our usual haunts. We came , we saw, we ate. Not impressed enough to try again. Came with my wife for lunch. We both had Greek salads. Hers was chicken and mine was gyros. It was mostly lettuce. What there was of the tomatoes, cucumber, onion and olives was chopped in very small pieces in a small amount. Not what I expected for a Greek salad. Wouldn't be impressed if it was the house salad. Can't say anything about the rest of the menu, but based on the salad no need for me to go back. read more

Location and atmosphere are great; not impressed with the food. Came here for a late lunch; decided to get the cheese plate which let me save you Worst Cheese Plate Ever! Assortment of meats and cheeses doesn't mean two types of ham (Black Forest and thick sliced lunch meat) and two cheeses (Brie and blue) for $21. Although they gave enough of it; it's like they had nothing better. Most people don't eat large chunks of potent blue cheese. As for the remainder of the meal... My husband had the turkey and I had the Greek salad; both were good but I wouldn't rave about them. Perfect way to end our day driving the Pacific Coast. We started with hummus that was perfection. I ordered the grilled salmon which was cooked to perfection. My husband had the gyro platter and the lamb melted in your mouth. My son had the chicken kebabs that were so tender and full of flavor. My daughter had the gyro salad that was full of fresh made feta cheese that was smooth and creamy. Our server, Alberto, was top notch and extremely pleasant!! He brought us a complimentary piece of cheesecake that he made...it was beyond creamy!!!My only wish....this place was located in Pennsylvania!!!! read more

Carmel by the Sea city is a very beautiful and pretty beach side area. This cafe fits in well. It is quant, the service friendly and attentive. There's a good choice in the menu. We had the beef stroganoff and Lamb shank. Both were well cooked and good flavor. Parking is on road and can be difficult to find depending on the time and season. read more

I have been to Tree House twice and both times had a terrific experience. The food is amazing. The grilled calimari melts in your mouth, it is so tender and tasty. Never had calimari this good and usually don't order it at other places because the breading on it is so thick and greasy. But here they put a very light breading on it. Absolutely delicious. Also had the gyros plate. One of the best lamb dishes I have ever had. The lamb was also tender and tastes so good. Servings are big portions, even the wine. Nice, relaxing music playing at the perfect noise level. Romantic and cozy ambience. The service both times was spot on. All the servers have great timing, are so nice and don't make you feel rushed at all. I also had the Thai noodle dish, which is also very good. I love how they offer different cuisines and cook them all so well. You will not be disappointed going here. read more

I went there with my parents on my way to Big Sur. It's a tiny cafe with beautiful European architecture. The ambience itself make one fall in love with the place. Though the prices are a bit high the food is totally worth it. My dad being a food lover was totally happy with me for getting him to this place. The coconut prawn soup is a must while you are here. This is a lovely little place. I had the chicken kebab with salad and saffron rice and a glass of rosé and my husband had the gyros sandwich. Both were well cooked and very tasty. The food is flavorful and the portions are appropriate to large. We shared the key lime pie for dessert and it was good. Nice little deck for outdoor seating and dog friendly. My husband and I went to Treehouse Cafe for the first time on a Sunday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and plan to return. High Points: - Very friendly, attentive, customer-focused staff. - Calamari appetizer was outstanding! Tender and succulent. Will order this again. - Lovely dining inside, and outside on patio overlooking San Carlos Street. - Lamb kebab tender, saffron rice and tsaziki sauce flavorful - Decaf coffee was excellent. - Chocolate Mousse cake was lightly sweet with an intense chocolate flavor. Mango Strawberry cheesecake was light and refreshing. Both excellent. To Note: - Food fired and served too quickly. Appetizer and salad served together. We were still eating both when our dinner was served. Request paced service if you want to eat European-style and savor your meal. - Lamb Osso Bucco was tender, but tomato flavor was too pronounced (like tomato paste). It was served with mashed potatoes instead of Saffron Rice as listed on the menu. The rice would have been a better balance. - Staff needs to check back and refill coffees (otherwise the staff was near perfect) - This is a small restaurant. We had the All-American Cheeseburger, Calamari and Olives. The cheeseburger was cooked just the way I like it. When you bite into it, it's so juicy that the juice will run down your face. The blue cheese salad that accompanied it was alright. The Calamari tasted fresh, not rubbery. Very impressed by it. The olives marinated to perfection. Pairs very nicely with wine. I give this Carmel gem five stars for excellent service, good food, good wine and outstanding kid and dog friendliness! After calling them around 2:00 pm on a Saturday to try to make a reservation for four adults, two kids and a Pointer, I was told they only took dinner reservations and that we could just come over and should get a table with no problem. When we got there, the charming second level outdoor dining area was full. The host asked us to wait a few moments and called in reinforcements to prep a table in the private room. It had a door to the outside so that we easily got the Pup into the restaurant and settled next to Dad. Our five-year-old princess wanted mac and cheese (not on the menu) and was told she could have it. Their pasta is made fresh on the premises and our vegans loved their portabella pasta. I got the yellow curry with prawns and shared a couple of the perfectly cooked prawns with the hubs. It was quite tasty! The rice was cooked to my exacting Filipino standards and the curry's spice level was just right. I asked for their most buttery chardonnay and the recommended wine did not disappoint. The wait staff was attentive, pleasant and so nice to the grandkids and Pup! A well-deserved five stars! Thank you, Carmel, home of our favorite beach. read more
