Theory, COS, and Gap shuttered, while planned stores by Kiehl's and Incase soon found themselves canceled. A.P.C., Acne Studios, and Paul Smith have finally closed, and the clock is likely ticking on Aēsop, Mykita, and Gentle Monster. Into this bleak retail landscape, Adidas has actually opened a new store -- a flagship boutique for its Adidas Originals line at the corner of Broadway and Eighth. Adidas Originals is the retro-inspired streetwear line bearing the trefoil logo known from the 1970s; this is not the athletics line of performance sportswear. Well-known styles offered here include the Gazelle, Superstar, Samba, and Stan Smith. Clothing and accessories are also carried here, much of it trimmed in those unmistakable three stripes. One's reaction will likely depend on one's sportswear allegiances; I've been firmly on Team Adidas for decades, not much of a fan of their big competitor Nike (or their cross-town Dassler family rival, Puma). The store is stylish but not tacky. The sales associates are helpful but not too pushy. And there was a sale on certain styles, so I actually bought a new pair of shoes. They're going to have some sort of vault with rare, limited items only for "level four and higher" customers, whatever that means, but it's supposedly not up yet. Or at least that's what my level zero self was told. The one market segment that's still thriving in Downtown is sneakers, so it's nice to see the area get a cool new store while most everything else is bailing for the other side of La Cienega.

New shoe models aren't necessarily better. The gentleman on the phone helped me find the one pair that the system said, was in stock and explained where it was and how the shipping worked.... Ironically, the one pair of shoes we needed was all the way up in Northridge or something like that. He went above and beyond on the phone with me. Because of that I was able to order them online and have them shipped and I knew exactly what to expect. If the services is good on the phone, I can't wait to go to the store sometime!!! Charlie's Sewer and Drain set up an appointment and sent out their plumbing tech Cesar to have a look. Cesar was on time, friendly, and knowledgable. He popped open the trap and also tried to clear the clog in the drain with his more industrial-strength snake. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful -- the pipes are so old and corroded that we suspect it will take a much bigger repair. He wrapped up and cleaned up, and after we discussed possible next steps, he got us an estimate for further work within the hour. He didn't charge us since we weren't able to get the clog cleared, which I really appreciate. At time of writing, we're doing due diligence to collect other estimates, but my engagement with Cesar and Charlie's S&D was really favorable, and deserved a great review.

He was very clear that this is a process that takes time, but was confident also that we won't be seeing any pests in six months with consistent service. My quote to HomeShield was only requested a few days ago, and they were able to come by quickly to help put our minds at ease. At only $55/month I think it's a great deal, and he let us know they can come out again before our next appointment at no additional cost if we see anything crawling around. Overall the work was good but it pains me to see staff treated so poorly. The other thing that was a disappointment was I was told my bike would be ready on a specific day. When I arrived one day later to get it the owner had zero memory of me and, of course, had not even touched the bike. I got the sense that this is incredibly common at this shop as the staff privately asked me who told me it would be ready and then rolled their eyes when I said who as if this is so common. Lucky I took a photo of the receipt (only once I could produce it did my bike appear).

Poor attention to work…read more PROS: The people who work there are friendly and very laidback, in terms of attitude they do have a very welcoming and easy-going vibe. Another pro is the price because they charge $10 to change a tube for a bike, but here's where I get to my cons... CONS: Service is POOR. As stated, I came to get a tube replaced for my back tire for $10. Not bad, or so I thought. A day later my back tire is flat again. I returned to get it fixed and they wanted to charge me again for the tube. Of course I refused, and when they took a look again they realized they had given me a faulty tube and that it was their fault. So they changed the tube again, no charge. Two days later, guess what happened?? Flat tire again! And also they changed my gear from free wheel to fixed without even telling me (I should have double checked about that one at the shop). Of course, I naturally decided to go to another shop, and it was them who told me the problem was I needed a new tire and that the tube that was placed was old. That means this shop didn't even notice that the tire was the problem. LOCATION: This bike shop is located in mid city. Theres no immediate parking for the shop, but there is metered street parking. Safe to say I wont be coming back here, shame because it's so close to where I live but the service was terrible.

Wonderful service, wonderful owner!…read more My bike is my means of transportation. While out bicycling today, I sustained a flat. I was miles from home and my local bike repair shop. I googled local bike repair shops, and google showed me to be closer to another shop on Pico... Mike's bike shop. I went there first, and the owner was arrogant and rude to me and basically refused to fix a flat in the same day (this was around 2:30pm), so I went to Sound Cycle which was the second closest instead. It's a hole in the wall shop... I walked right by it at first. But don't judge a book by its cover either. This was the best decision I made all day! Wes, the owner, fixed my flat in under 20 minutes, and he was personable the whole time. In addition to repairing bikes, he collects CDs and vinyl records which are on display in his shop, and he'll gladly chat with you about them while he's fixing your bike. I even learned that he saw David Bowie live twice! While this has nothing to do with repairing bikes, it definitely added to the coolness factor. Considering I had just left another bike repair shop where the owner was a total a**hole to me, coolness was somehow important to me. He fixed my bike when another bike shop owner wouldn't, and he was a decent human being. I would definitely go back. Moral of this story: treat people decently. Help a woman in need. It will get returned to you...

I tried a few bikes at their location for a few weeks (and they are all amazing btw) until they had a beautiful, vintage silver Windsor that I really loved. I had a few squeaks and bolts loose as I rode it for a few weeks, Jose was really kind and took another look at it for me. It runs almost like a brand new bike honestly, just perfect and exactly what I initially had hoped for. I really want to thank Jose for being so accommodating and patient with me in my recent frustration, the bike is absolutely perfect. If I ever need another bike, I will be back!

I drove 30mins across town to pick them up, and when I walked in I saw that .nothing. had been done to either bike. Now I'm sitting here, writing a review while watching them slowly stumble through a simple chain replacement for the first bike, while the second is yet to be touched. And now, as if to complete an almost comic tale of clumsy proportions...they're trying to charge me for all the repairs they quoted but never completed. Deep breath... ... UPDATE: it's been a few weeks since I composed this review. I held my hand, because I wanted to make sure I wasn't speaking too harshly, or even out of turn. I recognize that the stakes were higher for me at the time, as my lady & I were about to head out to the desert for a week of camping and bike riding, and departure time was fast approaching. Then. While we were out there, the chain on my fiancée's bike broke as we were riding across the playa. This was the same chain that I paid to have put on her bike at this fine establishment. Literally, the one thing that they fixed is is the one thing that broke. Fortunately, there were ample free bike shops out on the playa, and while getting the bike fixed, I chatted with the volunteer mechanic and learned a lot about maintaining my own bike, both in the desert & back home. I'm grateful for the learning :) Listen, owners of this place, PLEASE DO BETTER. I like your spot. It's charming. It looks like you have everything someone might need for bike maintenance and general home upkeep...and there's a dry cleaners at another counter across the room!! One stop shop for so many local needs... But seriously, your ability to fix a bike and treat a customer with respect could be greatly improved with very little effort. The lady who helped me took more than 30 minutes to tightened the bolts . I feel like she didn't know what she was doing . I asked if I could help or do something so it could be done faster .
