    Trek Super Commuter+ 8S
    Michael G.

About a month ago I walked into this store looking for an accessory when I saw my dream bike. It was a brand new 2019 Super Commuter+ 8s, no longer made by Trek. Gladys suggested that I go for a test ride, and even gave my wife a bike to ride as well. I didn't buy the bike that day, but about a month later I came back and took another test ride. Gladys was warm and welcoming as usual, and I never felt pressured. The following day I went back to the store and bought the bike. I can't speak highly enough about how great the customer service is at this Trek store. They truly care about their customers and they love bikes. If you're on the fence about whether or not you should pay a premium for a reputable bicycle brand like Trek, take the leap! I'm a Trek fan for life!

    They did absolutely nothing!

When I picked up the bike, a Larry's technician certified it as ready to ride after a tune-up. Within minutes of riding it, the gears began slipping badly. The chain came off entirely shortly after. I took the bike to another shop, which diagnosed worn cassette, crankset, and chain -- components that don't wear out from minimal use. Either Larry's failed to notice this during multiple tune-ups, or they noticed and said nothing. Either way, the bike was certified as rideable when it was not. When I called Larry's to report this, rather than taking any responsibility, a staff member became belligerent and told me I was "ignorant." That response alone tells you everything you need to know about how this shop treats customers when something goes wrong. I ended up paying $180 in repairs to make the bike actually rideable. Incompetent work and rude staff when confronted about it. Go elsewhere.

I had this bike for almost 30 years "Cannondalle Super V500" year 1998. I love my bike and the people in this shop were so kind to me and understood my concerns. They explained to me everything that needed to be done to fix my bike. When I returned to pick up my bike, I was taken back on how it looked. It looked brand new, I almost started crying. The mechanic did an amazing job. I couldn't believe how it looked. I can't tell you how happy I am. My bike looks like it came out the store new. I highly recommend this bike shop.

I imagine if you're bringing your regular bike or mountain bike there it would be fine, but I was bringing my Brompton fold-up bike there for the first time and they completely dropped the ball. First, I only went for a cleaning but Imbert talked me into getting a new chain. It was a bit old to be fair, but when I went to pick it up a few days later, the chain was WAY to long and would uncouple from the sprocket upon folding. I brought this up and to their credit, they shortened the chain and it seemed fine...for a minute. Then I went to ride it and the chain would skip upon ANY pressure, so I went back. They explained that it needed new sprockets and they didn't carry them so I'd have to go Brompton Junction. Why this was not explained and owned up to from the jump was my first point of contention. I was also upset because I had wanted to just keep the old chain but they talked me into a new one and had thrown the old away and that meant by bike was made unrideable by their actions and that's thing two. The other thing was that they ruined the paint job with whatever high pressure hose they were looking to clean it with (see picture). All that for $174 and that is ridiculous. I did get a refund for the chain at $32, But to not just own up to it right away, apologize, and OFFER A FULL REFUND is quite frankly just not good enough. There are are too many other, better bike shops out there and I'll get to that later. I love my Bromptons and I was pissed. Luckily, I paid with my Am Ex card and I will definitely be getting my refund back in full through them in due course. If your looking to get your Bromptons serviced, save yourself the incompetence and lack of outgoing service and just head down to Brompton Junction over on Bleeker Street. Better Yet, hit up David at BFold as he the absolute Best! You can find him at 224 East 13th Street. Yet another reminder of why Quality is Worth the Extra Hassle And when it comes to premium bikes: You Get What You Pay For. Or Don't.

This certainly proves there must be some kind of magic with their teaching methods. Here are the exact things I really appreciated about Bike New York: 1) They let you find a bike matching accurately with your size, specifically, your height and the length of your legs. The seat should be about level with where your butt falls; you should be able to stand on your toes while sitting on the bike seat, but your heels should not touch the ground. 2) Breaking down the exercise into two parts: first just slide while sitting - your pedals being taken away. Once you get comfortable, you get to ask of one of the staff to help you reinstall the pedals back onto the bike. This really helps. 3) They give you a helmet in advance. This safety measure grants you huge mental comfort so that you feel safe and secure, and therefore focus 100% on bike-riding with no fear afterwards. 4) The encouraging words at the beginning of the class were really helpful too. Everybody was encouraged to say something about what motivated you to learn to bike- most of us were not first time learners, the reason why we failed usually could be attributed to various personal things such as childhood trauma, over-protective parents, etc. But putting history, burdens and debts behind us is so important for us adults to move on. The instructor reminds us once again. Here we go, now we are all motivated, as long as you desire something to happen, the world is already conspiring to help you achieve that goal!!! 5) The instructor warned us about the potential discomfort while seating, but hey, it's okay, tiny discomfort is normal in life. It's the same for everyone! We are reminded beforehand, again, it helped, especially for people with low PHYSICAL pain tolerance. (To be quite honest, I am very strong and tough mentally, but when it comes to things physical, I'm not so sure... I think it might be related to my over-protective parents and my weak sports nerve, which I am determined to change...) Once the class started, I was 100% focused on my own learning to ride, constantly adjusting, coordinating, and reacting to changes. Being precise about the direction of movement and my speed. Making adjustment on the improvement strategy and summarizing based on experience... all these efforts paid off by the end of the class. Besides following the instructions, I didn't focus so much on other people, because I understand 90% of the time, caring about others' progress is futile when it comes to learning and growing. You should just do your best at your own pace! Overall, I can guarantee to say, this was one of those perfect learning experience which was thoroughly enjoyable, inspiring and beneficial. Next step is to buy a perfect bike and to ride more on the streets. :))) Can't wait! Thank you, Dahlia, you are truly an amazing instructor.... and to other other volunteers - John, Arnold, Sarah... You were awesome.
