Lack of customer service. 3 guys standing around, one said hey, end of story. I'm in the market for a 2k+ bike and I will definitely not be buying it from here. Went to the chula vista store for a gps and a race entry and both times I was helped and all my questions answered. I brought my bike here and it was with them for almost 2 weeks. They told me that one of my bike parts had a problem. I waited for a long time. No updates at all. So i just decided to get my bike and bring it to other bike shop. And wow, what really pissed me off is that all my bike parts are actually working fine and they made me wait for almost 2 weeks! I was having some problems with my road bike and it wasn't shifting properly so I just went down to Trek Bicycle to drop it off...I didn't have an appointment so I was more than okay to leave it there. I was immediately greeted when I walked in and kindly directed to their service department. I was greeted by Brandon and you could tell they were swamped with repairs and calls but he took the time to listen to what was going on with my bike and tried to work on my bike right there and then. Wasn't sure if he was going to be able to get it fixed bc there was an issue with the shifting cable but he worked his magic and got it fixed and kindly filled my tires with air and I was able to walk back out with my bike! So appreciate Brandon and how helpful he was to take the time to work on my bike even in the midst of his busy working day so I didn't have to leave it. today, a weary commuter decides to finally bury the hatchet and give these faceless monsters one more try. Cash in my pocket, I was resolved to buy the best Sidi shoes they had, to make my commute better. A young Asian salesman hunted me down and I told him of my quest and he asked "oh, for a gift?" meaning, surely an aged fool such as you doesn't deserve the Italian crafted bliss we carry! I explained I commute 5k a year and really something hardcore and in a 48. He shuffled around in the shoe isle a few minutes and told me they would have to special order them. WTF? I can mail order them without the little shit attitude and far cheaper! So yes, ye Walmart of the cycling world, I will never set foot in your store again, trust me. I may not fit your rich college kid demographic, but I certainly am willing to spend the money. This time I am supporting a local shop, as my conscience guided me to do in the first place, and I will wear my Anti Trek patch with great pride. Just discovered a nasty trick Yelp plays, this unfavorable review was hidden under two older, kiss ass ones. How much did that cost Trek? I took my bike in for basic maintenance and encountered the following; - Final charge significantly larger than verbal estimate - Was not provided with written copy of initial quote - ADDITIONAL service performed AND CHARGED without calling me to ask/confirm - Bike not ready until 1 week after my quoted completion date - Had to call and pester store for update; did not hear from store as the estimated completion date came and went I discussed my concerns with the store employee who agreed with my complaints and said "yeah, we should have called you" regarding the extra charges, delay in service, etc. Then he left it that. Greg and Richard were very helpful and I must have been the biggest pain in the ass customer all year. First, I bought a 3500 that did not work out well for me. I kept having trouble with the gearing and chain (possibly due more to my riding style). So, why the great review? Because they handled the troubles well and with a lot of patience. After a few times back in for service I decided that this bike just did not work out well for me. I upgraded to a Superfly (the name says it all, awesome!), after test riding nearly every bike in the store. I wanted to be sure I got it right this time. These guys are great... I brought in my wife's and my mountain bikes for a tune up after sitting for a year or so. The tech looked at it for a couple of minutes and said it really didn't need much other than some air in the tires and some chain lube. He said if I could wait a few minutes, he's take care of it for me. 15 min later, it was done for free! I think it really says something about a store when you go in expecting to pay $200 (and they have higher end tune ups for that) and they talk you out of it. Make me think they really have the customer's best interest in mind. read more

Been to the shop a couple times recently and I have to say I'm a fan. I didn't have the best first experience at the store, after the guy who helped me assumed my nonexistent boyfriend would show me how to use the bike pump. He made it sound brainless so I figured I could do it myself, but was quite mistaken. The pump I bought didn't come with directions and I didn't see an option to view them online. Luckily Greg, knew exactly what I needed upon walking back in with my tire and pump in tow. He explained how to switch the pump from regular to presta valves, inflated my tire again and I was on my way. Went back tonight to get a kickstand installed and buy a seat wedge. Rob and Greg were both super helpful, made some adjustments to my seat height, and explained things really clearly to me. I'll definitely be back for whatever I discover I need next, as long as these guys are there. read more

I bought my son a new electric bicycle two weeks ago. Since I've been in a hospital for the last six months, I was not able to assemble the e-bike so I had it brought to La Mesa Treks super store for assembly. I called and spoke to Michaelangelo and was 100% sure that I was clear regarding the arrangement I worked out. The agreement was they'd assemble the e-bike for free and in exchange I would buy $150 worth of accessories along with agreeing to use their store for future purchases. My step father in law dropped of the e-bike but did fail to give it to Michaelangelo. Instead he turned the e-bike into Chris and signed for a $100 invoice. Within an hour I was told this and immediatly called and spoke to Chris. I told him what had happened and he told me it had been straightened out. When our e-bike assembly was done we're told my step father in law Leo had signed for the invoice and Michaelangelo denied we had a deal. He claimed I was only told I'd get a free fitting which is always free anyway. He then also stated we never told him it was an e-bike and it was very hard to put together. After 5 days of use the chain had stretched and needed service. My wife was so annoyed by Treks that she just brought it to a different shop for chain repair. The new shop immediately noticed upon inspection that the brake levers bottomed out on both sides and hadn't been adjusted. Loose bolts were discovered along with the collar between the bars and forks. I called today and spoke with assistant manager Ashley. She told me straight away she would give me a store credit and I was appreciative of that. Later this same day I called the store to ask about a jacket I saw online of theirs that didn't have a price on it. By chance it was Ashley and she stated she was now also going back on her word and siding with Michaelangelo, saying he would never work a deal that I claimed to have arranged. An update: I had loved this place for many good reasons, but I'm annoyed today because after purchasing two expensive bikes recently, we already have a repair. My husband's handlebar wrap has shifted and needs to be redone, and Trek is charging us $40. Ugh!!!! The bike should not already need this done, so I think the store should cover the cost. read more

Drove a decent distance because the reviews but after really don't understand the hype. However notice few of these reviews are less than two years old and maybe the store has changed since then. I am not saying they were terrible, they are friendly enough but to tell me the difference between bikes is 'the technology' and stop there...well not exactly feeling like you are doing a good job presenting your product. I am new to this, am excited, and all you are doing is killing that enthusiasm... Furthermore wanting me to place an order with only testing a much higher end of the same bike...no thanks. Just felt like my salesman was way too concentrated on the sale over the individuals best fit (and I do typically spend more if you help w the latter and can justify it) to the point of I was debating walking out. I am sure they get their 'window shoppers' and get sick of doing what they view as sometimes pointless demos, but you aren't going to sell everyone that is just how it is. This is the best Trek store I've been to in San Diego. These guys are great! John F. greeted us immediately when we walked in and helped determine the type of bike we were looking for. John took his time with us, introduced us to the guru machine and sized my gf for a few really nice hybrid bikes. The size of the store is huge, and everyone there always says hi and makes you feel welcome. John was so nice that when I told my gf they sold out of the bike she wanted (little did she know I already bought it earlier that week) John played along and then brought it out and said "we may have one more left in stock, happy birthday!" He's a great guy and knows his bikes. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for a new bike and wants great service. We've stopped by several times after our purchase and bought some lights, gloves and made small adjustments to her bike, and John's always been there to help us. Thanks John! read more

After a below average experience at the Kearny and Chula Vista stores, I can't tell you how stoked I was to find a Trek store I can rely on. These guys are awesome, and Richard is the man! He went above and beyond to answer any of my questions, none of which were too dumb, and walked around the store with me suggesting the best products for what I was interested in. The shop guys are awesome too! They immediately took care of my tune up as a walk in and I was ready to go in less than 15 minutes. We shopped around for a few months before finally buying my daughter a new 24" trek bicycle. After trying the other trek location in Kearney Mesa (avoid Kearney Mesa location one, sub par customer service) we called this one hoping they had the bike we were looking for in stock. They did. Kind of. It was disassembled. But we were told it would be ready to ride by the time we could drive there. Sure enough, a pink bike was waiting by the front counter and we were given very attentive service. Not bad price wise, Trek is on the more expensive end for entry level bikes. But you never question the quality. They let my daughter and I run up and down around the building (me running, her pedaling) to let her get a feel for it. She was a bit scared, it being a much larger bike, but was given lots of encouragement by the staff. They offer lots of rides, I think I'll go back for an off road one. read more

I was driving by one day and decided to stop and see what bikes have graduated to. I was greeted by a extremely welcoming employee. You could say interviewed me about my riding style and experience and what I preferred. He proceeded to show me my future Cannondale scalpel. This bike was a a little more than i was use to spending on something without a motor. So after relentless research and a few visits back to the store Treks price was by FAR cheaper than anywhere else online or in San Diego. I bought the bike and have been riding almost everyday now. I went to a local competitors shop nearby prior to making a stop at Trek and was pretty dissatisfied with the tentativeness and helpfulness. Ill leave the shop name out. Upon arrival at Trek for the second time, I went the prior week with the intent to shop around for bikes. I was greeted by Tim the first time and he was very helpful. During my second visit, Tim greeted me again and remembered me. He asked if I ever bought a bike and I told him I was able to get a bike from a friend. Tim asked me what I bought and was not upset whatsoever, he actually told me to go to the bike fitting machine and got me fitted perfectly for the seat height of my bike. What a guy! I ended up buying new pedals, shoes, and a computer from him. As I bought the products Tim was very helpful and got them all installed for me. My quick window shopping trip into Trek turned into an enjoyable 2 hour experience as I walked around and looked at all the nice gear. Trek La Mesa is now my local store for all my bicycle needs. This place was really awesome. I went in to purchase an MTB and the first time, I must admit I didn't get anyone to come over and help. The next day I went back and had the $ in hand to buy a bike. Found the bike I wanted and found an associate.. They talked to me about the key differences in the bikes and what would best suit me. I talked to the mgr and he hooked me up on a few parts and I was very happy. They were never pushy and listened to me as I am a big novice when it comes to bikes. I left w/ my 4300 disc, 19.5"... came home, road it around and then that night went to sit on it in my garage to see how comfortable I felt and realized I got the wrong size. I felt sick, because normally a place would be like "too bad, so sad" when a customer faces a problem like this. Called them "No problem, we will get you the new one, drop by anytime".. came back, got my new bike + they swapped my parts over to an 18" same model and everything for NOTHING :) Kid at the desk told me about some good sites to look for places to ride and stuff.. overall, great guys. This place was great. Came in just looking. I had seen the Yelp reviews and wanted to check the place out for myself. When I walked in I started looking at the road bikes. I had a sense of what I wanted and knew I wasn't going to buy a new bike. The associate came over and started telling me everything to know about road bikes. I told him I wanted to buy a bike off Craigslist, and he still had no problem telling me what to look for and what to stay away from. The staff was very knowledgeable and very polite.
