I took my bike in for service today because well it has been a while since I've ridden it and I wanted to make sure it was going to be good to get back on. I walked in. Perused around for a bit. And then someone came to ask "What can we help you with today?" I didn't get the gentleman's name, but right away asked me to go check out my bike, we brought it in, he helped me bring it an and told me Chris would help me with service. Chris started looking it right away and did a quick check and on the tires, gears, and chain. The only thing he suggested I keep an eye on was a little bubble on the valve stem of my rear tire. I went ahead and asked him to replace it. In less than 20 minutes everything was done. Wonderful service, thank you Chris!! read more

Purchased a new Trek Domane road bike from this Trek store, and it was a good experience. Anthony Morell was very helpful and assisted me in selecting and outfitting a new carbon Domane. Store has a nice vibe. If you're a hardcore road cyclist, you'll notice that the focus of the store is not high-end road bikes (very different from stores in Austin). But this Trek store has all the basics and more importantly experienced staff that listen to customers. Also had my Specialized Roubaix serviced here, and the service department works hard to turn bikes around quickly. For perspective, I'm not a newbie to bicycles and bike stores. Has an exceptional experience at Bike World and left as happy customers! We decided to purchase a bike for our daughters birthday and started off at a box box sporting store but though we were not looking for something crazy high end we were not happy with the cheaper bikes that seemed poorly together! So we tried Bike World. They have an impressive range of bikes and accessories at many different price points and we were immediately assisted but a nice associate that took the time to find out what we needed and was not at all pushy, just informative and knowledgeable. I was really let down by the customer service at this Bike World location today. I was there to buy a bike for my son and had a few questions to ask before deciding on one. I was never acknowledged by any of the employees. My wife stood in line at register and as soon as the employee was done with the customer in front of my wife, he walked away from the counter without acknowledging my wife. When I was finally able to talk to an employee, I asked if they had a few minutes to answer some questions and I was met with "Yeah, as soon as I'm done being busy". Definitely the worst service I've had at any Bike World location. We ended up at the SE Military Bike World and we couldn't have been happier. Everyone there was super friendly. Emailed here after getting nowhere finding a bike in Austin. They were showing stock on website but I didn't hold much hope. Rang them in afternoon and they had 4 bikes of the kind I was looking at in stock! Kevin was great on phone and greater in person. Had a test drive, he imparted lots of info and even though I just start cycling again recently he treated me really well and gave good advice. Shop was open, good social distancing in place without it seeming authoritarian. Some good supplies in there it just looking for parts etc and easily accessible from freeway. Would go back despite it being a drive from Austin just for the service we received. Additionally Jess got back to me on email that afternoon, only saw when I got home, was crazy responsive! I brought my Trek bike in for a problem with a tire tube that failed and was leaking air. Manny found the issue and fixed it quickly. He then noticed an issue with the drivetrain and the brakes. I started going to Bike World in Alamo Heights, since I was living in Monte Vista, and it was on my route so it made it very easy. And when they opened Local Coffee, even better. Tim helped me tremendously with getting the right fit, as I was having horrible back issues for a while... Once I moved north on 281, to the Brook Hollow area, I started popping in to their newer location off of San Pedro. I love the fact that they have a bunch of rescue dogs to greet you. The staff is always so welcoming and eager to help... I recently had new tires replaced, on both my 1946 Green Phantom, and my road bike. They special ordered the White Wall tires and got the Phantom ready to roll, and tweaked my rode bike and it is riding better than ever now. When they installed my tires, it disengaged my tachometer, and I couldn't figure it out. When I brought it back in, they made it a priority and fixed it lickity split, which was awesome since it seemed really technical to me. THEN, last ride, by gears stopped working so it only had two gears on the left side. Brought it in and they fixed it right up and only charged $18.00. I am most definitely a fan. They have loads of stoke, great pups, and this epic new set up where you can virtual ride, and they will let you hop on while your bike is getting fixed. Super glad they are in the neighborhood and totally recommend them... Happy Trails! read more

Bike World is the pinnacle of bike shops here in San Antonio. This location, which is at 1604 and Stone Oak, is absolutely huge and has pretty much everything the serious biker could want or need. While I don't consider myself a serious biker, my husband insisted that I get a nice bike, as opposed to the clunker I bought at Wal-Mart 6 years ago. The gears was so rusted that going up hills was a definite problem. Meanwhile, he zipped along on a nice bike we got at the Broadway Bike World. Not fair! Enter Bike World on 1604. The day we happened to be there was rainy, so the staff let me ride around the interior of the store, which is usually not allowed. The guys there were super nice, but I always feel like they are a tad too attentive and aware of your presence. One nice benefit of this location is that they have a bike repair shop with a coffee shop alongside it. We decided on a nice bike, one in the lower range of what Bike World has but plenty of bike for me. It ran us just under $400, but I look forward to having it for years and years... and actually being able to keep up with my husband on hills. read more

I brought my bike here to get serviced. I was advised to get a middle tier tune up and chain replacement. I picked up the bike after the work was conducted and the bike rode well. I noticed the chain was slipping when I would change gears. I took the bike back to get a chain adjustment and told them I was also having issues with my brakes (user error) and I was requesting them to bleed the brakes. They were adamant about bleeding the brakes and stated I needed a new caliber. I ended up taking the bike elsewhere and sure enough all I needed was to bleed the brakes. read more

Pricey! You can find everything in this store for 25% less at amazon. The bike mechanic was totally snobby towards me... "I've never heard of Schwinn" well, you sir, have lived under a rock in this bike shop! Sorry its not a $500 Trek, but my Schwinn is way cute, and if I had to choose between her, and the street cruisers in that store, I would chose my Schwinn any day. But this is irrelevant, as I was there to give bike world my business, at least feign excitement to be in the presence of such an awesome bike! For that, I take a star away! One thing this place has, that you cant find on amazon or walmart, BIKE MECHANICS... grrrrr, as arrogant as they are, I needed them when my Schwinn needed a check up. For $35 they gave my baby a once over and she rides like new again. I'll take my bike here for repairs, but I'm not hardcore, so I'll be buying bikes and accessories elsewhere... P.S. I found an amazing helmet here, but purchased it on amazon... if the guy wasn't so arrogant, I could have bought it from him and walked out of the store looking mighty sharp... but instead, I'll wait for my 2 day shipping, and look sharp on Tuesday :) read more

Took my old trusty mountain bike in for a re-cabling, new handlebars and handlebar grips. I should have known it was going to be a problem when the guy at intake seemed slightly put off by my requests. He informed me that I would need to order my upright handlebars, and the job would take a week. He put it all in the computer, and seemed a bit annoyed by my wanting to be absolutely sure that he understood my needs. Maybe I repeated myself too much, but he did write up the order correctly.. I got a call five days later that my bike was ready. I drove to the store, only to discover my trip was wasted time and gas. The ordered handlebar replacement had not happened. The friendly helpful worker saw it on the computer and he saw it on my work order. He apologized for the omission, and expressed confusion about why only the re-cabling had occurred. We picked out the grips I wanted, and he promised the bike back the next day. There was never any concession or discount for the false alarm and wasted time. When I got the bike the next day, it had the new upright handlebars installed. They actually had been in stock the whole time, and not any special order as previously indicated by the first guy who originally wrote up the order. The wrong (more costly) grips were attached, even though I actually handed my selection to the helpful worker the day before. The worst part of the whole deal is that the re-cabling was performed while the original straight handlebar was still on the bike, and then the upright handlebars were installed afterward. Now some of the cables are slightly too short, and with the upright handlebars it is possible by turning the fork 180 degrees to stretch and bind the cables, as they weren't cut for an upright handlebar use. I believe it significantly diminishes the life span of the tune-up, and the cables themselves. Anybody know a good bike shop that won't be put off working on my old beater? read more

This bike shop is good for buying a new bike, or some gear. They've got a wide selection of high end bikes. Mainly Treks, but they have other brands available. They're an authorized Trek dealer, so they can handle any warranty issues if you buy your bike there. However, if you didn't buy your bike here. Keep it away from these guys. I brought in a friend's bike for a tune-up. The mechanic proceeded to make up non-existent damages on the bike, and went on and on about what a piece of garbage it was, and how it's not worth his time to tune up the bike, unless he charged over 3x the going rate. If they don't want to work on it, just say so. We ended up taking the bike elsewhere for the tuneup, and got if for a fraction of the price they were trying to get. Avoid if you're not some Lance Armstrong-type. The place is clean, and parking is easy. I enjoy the layout and feel of this place, they just need to get some new mechanics who aren't so stuck up. read more

I wouldn't recommend getting your bike repaired there. Admittedly, I don't know much about bikes and when my Marin Muirwood Urban Street bike's tire kept going flat, I took it in to Bike World to get it repaired. First off, I had difficulty getting it there. I don't have anything to transport my bike with and the shop is located in area (right off the freeway) which is not safe or easy to bike to from my home. Although that is not Bike World's fault (San Antonio is not too bike friendly in general), the fact that I spoke about the difficulty and that Bike World didn't take this into consideration when servicing my bike (more later) does make them a contributor to my problem. I brought my bike in because my tire kept going flat (even though the tire itself looked good). The guy behind the counter recommended that I buy the tune up and have the whole bike looked over since I hardly use it. Since I came in for a flat tire and the guy recommended a tune up, I assumed the tune up was recommended because it would fix my problem. The tune up cost approx $38 with tax. They informed that it would take a couple of days before my bike would be ready for pick up. Three days later, I picked up my bike which at first appeared fine. Within a week (with no usage), my tire was flat again. Bike World told me that I could bring the bike back in to replace the inner tubing for an additional charge. With all the difficulty I had getting the bike there and back the first time, bringing it back so that I can spend more money at a shop that didn't fix the issue the first time for a bike I rarely use was not something I was interested in doing. My bike has sat in my garage, flat tire and all, ever since. read more
