First time I tried Tres bros a couple months ago i was excited because everyone had raved about this place. The service was awesome, I'm new to this cuisine so I had I think the owners son explain the different dishes to me. Unfortunately I was disappointed with how small my portion was for a $22 meal. I ordered 2 uncle Tut surf and turf Fritanga. One with shrimp and Steak, the other with Fish and steak. It was very underwhelming, the fish was smaller than my pinky and small. Everything else was delicious but just such a small portion where every other photos I had seen they were decent sized . I went back recently and ordered via door dash. I'm so happy I tried it again! I ordered the surf and turf meal again with steak and shrimp!! It was 10/10 the portion was definitely appropriate and everything was delicious! The mango ceviche was the best I've ever had! Really love the salmon clam chowder, really enjoyed the multiple tastes within each spoonful. Some clam chowders can just be plain without much variety, but there's was exceptional. Nicaraguan food in the Northwest? This little truck in Astoria is the only place I have seen it, and it's so yummy I have visited on my last two travels through town. The truck is located across from the Astoria Co-op as you enter town from the north. There are some picnic tables so you can enjoy your food on sight. This last visit we tried a shrimp taco platter (two tacos and a side of beans). The tacos were full of juicy shrimp and the pinto beans tasted cooked from scratch. The mahi mahi bowl featured grilled fish, a porch of fried cheese, three slices of plantain and rice and beans. Delicious salsa and crema rounded out the dish. Great quality food served quickly. I lost the login to my last account and started a new one just to make sure to review Tres Bro's. The ceviche was some of the best I have had anywhere in the world. Fresh, tangy, bright and flavorful. The Fritanga had all the elements that's makes it the most popular Central American dish. Simple, yet over the top flavor. We devoured every last bite and got more ceviche to eat in the car. The service was fast and Yadira the owner is lovely and explains each dish well. Don't miss this Nicaraguan seafood gem in Astoria! As mentioned by another reviewer, I also did a lot of research in preparation for our three-day visit, and Tres Bro's stood out. Our party of four started out with the scallop ceviche appetizer (It was exceptional. Definitely the best we have ever had. We should have ordered two!) We also were lucky to be there to enjoy a special appetizer from the chef -- a soft white masa tortilla filled with either a vegetarian or meat filling and pan fried. We ordered one of each. We all enjoyed the perfectly grilled ling cod fritanga, and somehow made room for two delicious desserts to share. The ambiance is relaxing with pleasant music, high ceilings and windows. Started with melt in your mouth plantanos/plantain (richer than banana)with beans & cream & it was a full plate. Do you think I could stop eating? Nooooo. Then I ordered the 2 taco's, shrimp & Mahi Mahi. Muy FRESCA! Mom came out to check on me & was so busy stuffing my face...all I could say was 'Your red beans are to die for.' So sad - I really LOVE the flavors at Tres Bros but today I ordered a $16 "daily catch" bowl with Ling Cod and only got the single small piece in the photo - so, $16 for a moderate size plate of rice, beans, plantains and condiments. 2 pieces of fish this size would have been minimum fair, 3 would have been a decent value. I'd give this place 6 stars if I could for the flavor, texture, and/or freshness of their food and drinks. Wow, is all I can say! I wasn't too familiar with Nicaraguan food, but I do thoroughly enjoy many Latin Americans cuisines. I've visited Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic before, and for me, this food had many similarities-- In the best way, as I LOVED the food I ate there. I had the Fritanga Steak (Carne Asada) Bowl and their NA Mango Mojito. Everything was so fresh and incredibly tasty! Flavors well balanced, cooked great. If you haven't had queso frito (fried cheese) or maduro frito (fried ripe plantain) I highly encourage those especially. The mango drink had fresh puree in it and was one of the best NA drinks I've ever had! If I wasn't in a time crunch, I certainly would've ordered multiple. I'm guessing this is a family run restaurant, and everyone there is so kind and patient. Support local. 10/10 recommend! read more

(Dined 6:30pm on a Tuesday) Street parking was plentiful along the main road. Upon arrival, our wait staff was very welcoming and attentive. We sat at the bistro tables outside (there are three), since we had our dog with us. Wait staff brought water and inquired about beverage and appetizer orders. I ordered the Fritanga bowl with shrimp. My boyfriend ordered the Fritanga bowl surf and turf (he chose steak and mahi). The smells wafting from the kitchen as we waited for our food were heavenly. We didn't have to wait long for our meals to arrive. The plates contained an amazing assortment of treats. All of it was delicious, but I especially loved the maduro frito (sweet plantains). The food from this family owned/run restaurant is made with love and it shows! The owner came out to check on us before we left.
