I ordered tableside guacamole for 8.99- got a very small plastic container containing about 2 tablespoons of brown guacamole. I got an order of queso that I did not order that tasted like velveta. I ordered a cheese enchilada, got beef . The chile rellanos had a thick doughy breading- not what I prefer The beans and rice had a different spice than I am use to - personal preference. The restaurant is losing it. I placed a take out order through grub hub and wait to go to the restaurant until my pickup time. the lady in front of me (who was there 15 minutes before me and ordered online)and I waited 20 minutes before she asked to have her money refunded. I found out that my order was still on the printer so I had to wait another 15 minutes. If the food wasn't so good I would have asked for a refund. My husband and I stopped for lunch over the weekend and were very disappointed. This used to be a nice little place that had great food, good serving sizes and fair prices. Not anymore!! Even the standard chips and sauce was bad. I ordered chicken Enchiladas and found a small chicken bone in one of mine. The green sauce topping them had a vinegar taste. And the rice was pitiful. My husband's chimichangas were not good and not like any chimichangas he had ever had. We were served by a young lady who barely spoke English and obviously was not very experienced. I don't leave bad reviews unless they're truly deserved so this isn't easy. The staff out front was super friendly and gave me fast service. Maybe this place is something you would enjoy and is more someone else's style but simply not for me. I ordered a Taco Salad which the price didn't match the advertising but I didn't stress that, I know inflation sucks. The Taco Salad though was by far the worst thing I've ever had. Overkill on the raw white onions mixed in with the beef taco. The salsa that came with the chips wasn't up to my standard either. If you're expecting to order online there is a high chance that you're order will not be fulfilled. I placed in order in hopes that we would be able to promptly pick it up at the estimated time only to be told that they don't take orders at all via Yelp or Grubhub even though the restaurant is still listed on the site. Although it is unassuming from the outside, (because it is in a strip mall), it is darling and cozy inside! Daniel, the owner, told us that most of the decorations are authentic to Mexico & we were obsessed with the oil paintings lining the wall- which are vibrant and colorful, depicting Frida Kahlo, the Virgin Mary, birds and trees! The food was fresh & delicious... every single dish. We also used the 10% discount offered by Yelp, and Daniel gave my daughter an unusual and flavorful Pistachio ice cream bar. I ordered the lunch special and the food didn't feel fresh and tasted old dissatisfied with this visit

The outside is unimpressive, and I was very surprised when I opened the door. The interior is very inviting, lots of booths for privacy, and a very comfortable vibe. Adequate parking either in front or across the street. The menu is basic Mex, not a lot of innovative dishes. The table side guacamole (not done tableside) was good but missing salt - we added and it turned into something we completely finished. Quesadilla was more than ample, and the "El Macho" (tampiquena with shrimp) was very tasty. Unfortunately there was this REALLY LOUD party across the aisle. Overall a very nice visit. Once again, I embarked on a quest to find which Mexican restaurants in RVA can serve more culturally authentic food than Taco Bell. During my journey, I went to visit Tres Machos for lunch today. How did my experience go? Here is my review. The Good: Service- I arrived at the restaurant not too long after it opened. Once I made my way through the door I was greeted by the host who sat me down immediately. My server was particularly friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I placed my order and the food was brought out roughly 10 minutes afterwards. The food was hot and I did not have to ask or hunt my server down for anything. Flavors- I ordered the Chicken and Spinach entree. This dish comes with grilled chicken breast with a spinach and bacon sauce, rice or mashed potatoes and a salad. The spinach and bacon sauce really set the rest of the meal off. I fell immediately in love with it and literally licked the place clean when I was done. Portion Size- The entree came with a portion size that is larger and most Mexican restaurants that I've been to in the past. I did not feel the need to stop by McDonalds after finishing my meal today. The Bad: Prices- There is a lunch special section and the majority of the items on the menu are reasonably priced. I opted to order some of the higher quality items. The Chicken and Spinach was $13.99. Portion wise it was a fair price, but quality of food wise its questionable. I was expecting fresh chicken with my dish and my chicken appeared to be of the frozen processed variety. The chicken was not bad, but vastly different from the taste of a fresh meal. Taste of rice- There was really nothing special about the rice that came with my dish. It could have used more seasoning. Overall- Any place with good service, large portion size, decent flavors and lunch specials deserves a second look. Since this is one of the better Mexican restaurants on Midlothian Turnpike outside of Don Pepe, I could see myself going again. I would likely order a burrito or taco the next time I go. We have been here several times. We have tried several of the Mexican restaurants in the Midlothian area and Tres Macho is now the only place we go to for Mexican. Each dish I've had is as flavorful as the previous. Such FRESH ingredients and oh so flavorful. I just now tried their new Menudo and wow was blown away by the taste. Very authentic Once again we will be coming back. One more thing that makes any dining experience a Hugh plus is the service. Everyone here is so nice and friendly. You're greeted at the door, and taken to your seat and given chips with salsa and white cheese (ranch?) Style dip. Your drink order is taken quickly and appetizer brought out fast, they have Mexican music in the radio and decent programs on mute on the TV. The food is awesome, chicken is shredded and not soggy. Didn't like the enchiladas they used corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas, which made the shells crumbly (?), just the way they cook em, nothing wrong with it, I just wasnt a fan. Giving one star because I can't give zero stars. I have no idea how the food tastes. My friend and I went on a Sunday evening around 6:15pm. After ordering we sat and waited...and waited....and waited.... Our waiter stopped by numerous times asking us if we needed anything but he just never brought our food. After waiting for around an hour he finally came to our table and told us that there had been a "mixup" and that our order had never been keyed in. AND that the kitchen was now CLOSED!!!! Mind you- the restaurant was not scheduled to close for another hour at this time! We just kind of looked at him like. "So what are we supposed to eat?" And he just sort of looked at us. My friend had to ASK for some kind of compensation for our trouble. So he brought us back ONE coupon for ONE free meal! I've never had such ridiculously bad service in a restaurant before! I'm not so sure I'm too eager to return for that sweet free meal they gave us. Jeez. read more

Okay, so I've seen this place for several years. I decided to stop in and order food. I got the #10 combination and table side guacamole. Well the combination was really terrible. It came with a chicken burrito chicken quesadilla and tamale. I'm guessing the tamale was pork because it wasn't specified/ I have never been more underwhelmed. The quesadilla was pretty burnt. The chicken burrito was very dry meaning the cheese was minimal. And the tamale was the absolutely worse. As for the table side guacamole--the onions were so huge I had to pick them out because it made it very unsavory. Unfortunately I can't recommend this place to others. I've never sat inside so I can't describe the actual ambiance of the place. I probably won't be going back. read more
