I was looking for some place to eat Mexican food. While web searching this place popped up nearest to my hotel. Thought of giving it a try.The place is in a lane where you have few hotels and some other restaurants as well. Seems to be upscale for a place like fairlawn. The location is very nice and inside its pretty spacious. It seems they have 3-4 separate seating sections. I preferred to sit next to bar section, since its more lively. The menu is also huge with so many options with different types of proteins and dishes. As in most mexican places, they will serve you with home made salsa and tortilla chips. Being first time there, I wanted to play safe and ordered Fajitas Texanas (without steak). It was a combination of chicken and shrimp cooked with onion, tomatoes and peppers.It was served with Mexican rice, beans,sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo and 3 flour tortillas. It was so fresh and tasted pretty good.I finished the whole platter. The first experience was very good, I will say. During our next visit, we tried there home made Margarita. The server offered their spicy salsa to try and it was too hot to handle but tasted damn good. I tried Chipotle Shrimp this time too it was a hit.Overall the place is very neat and clean, good service and friendly staff and food is damn good.A must go for all, who stay there. read more

The decor is beautiful, and the space is nice. Cleanliness: average. Margaritas: subpar (don't taste like your typical Mexican - hit you in the face - margaritas lol. Maybe that's a good thing, but tasted like a premixed bottle from the grocery store) Food: average. For the price, I'd expect better. I've been here several times since they moved locations and it's just not the same. Sure, it's beautiful but the food tastes different. It doesn't taste as authentic , if that's even possible. They raised their prices and didn't make the food match the price increase, in my opinion. Service has always been a little slow also. The food is okay. The chips and salsa were on the bland side, but fresh. The Mexican rice was standard. The al pastor tacos were border line inedible though. The meat was chewy and packed with gristle/cartilage. I ended up spitting out a fair amount of the meat. That being said, the barbacoa tacos were very good. Their guac is on point and tastes similar to Chipotle's guac. The inside of the restaurant is very well designed and clean. The prices are reasonable as well. Overall, I would recommend trying it out. Just stay away from the al pastor tacos and you should be fine. read more

PROs: Depending on the day U go, the wait (on a weeknight) for a table not very long, waitress very friendly n service phenomenal (only went there 3X n waitress remembered us), Servers fast n efficient, food came out quickly n hot n was very delicious (authentic). IMPORTANT (for me): Food appears to be FREE of MSG bcuz I'm allergic n I don't have any reaction whatsoever. My daughter n I usually share a combo n it's enough for two people. Btw, we LOVE the FREE chips n salsa, which is served before your meal. CONs: Music a lil loud (for us), but authentic Mexican music tho n enjoyable regardless. Met some friends here for dinner last night. It's all Mexican food but fancier. They have quite a large menu and it's broken out by type: burritos, enchiladas, tacos, chicken, pork, beef, sea food, etc. The staff were friendly and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu before we ordered. For an appetizer, we ordered the queso fundito with chorizo and it was fantastic! Highly recommend! For my meal, I ordered the Seafood Al Ajillo which is shrimp and scallops sauteed in a roasted garlic olive oil sauce with red onions, tomatoes and fresh avocado served over Mexican rice. I was surprised at how fast the food came out so I assumed the quality wouldn't be very good. I was surprised that the quality of the food was actually quite nice! My only complaint would be that the shrimp were overcooked. The scallops were cooked perfectly though. I loved the rice that came in this dish. It was toasty and tender. My friends had other dishes that they really seemed to enjoy. I definitely think we'll be back. We had a nice time! read more

We used to eat here a lot - at least 1-2 times a month. It was quick and fresh, the staff was great and the price for value was good. The last 4-5 times we've been there over the last 4 months have been terrible. The hostess staff couldn't care less about you. They close the dining room very early and make you sit in the bar. No "welcome" or "thank you". And add to that - the food quality is now terrible. Really bad. They're serving rice and beans that are not fresh at all (and it's so easy to make fresh rice daily!) the meat quality is now awful, and I usually order the same thing, but the last several visits the order has been different. Finally, no joke, the last 3 times we were there the pace reeked of cleaning chemicals. We had to move 1 time because the smell was so bad. Tres Portillos used to be one of our absolute favorite places. Now we won't go there anymore. So sad. read more

Im not mexican, but my boss works me like one. ( just kidding ) I came here twice in the past few weeks. I like authentic mexican food. honestly all these places are very similar, very quick service, alittle too quick actually, I swear I was still eating my Sopa Azteca ( very good but alittle spicey rice and tomato soup) when the rest of the food came within 5 minutes of ordering it. I felt alittle rushed. yet the waiter took his sweet time coming with the bill when it was time to leave. they could use an upgrade in restaurant POS software, our waiter was calculating our total on a handheld calculator while looking at the menu pages taped to the wall for pricing. As a caveat, my son (7 years old) loves their queso dip (as do I), but the rest of the menu is underwhelming. I ate dinner at Tres Potrillos alone in a small booth and didn't feel too conspicuous. The discounted happy hour hu-junga margarita probably helped a little. I started with a small order of cheese dip, which was pretty darn good. My main was the Nachos del Mar, a heaping mound of nacho chips covered in chopped shrimp, scallops, krab, pico and melted cheese. I think there was some cheese dip on there too. It was a beast. I especially liked the shrimp and krab (I think I only like scallops when they're raw...). My waiter was attentive and quick with the recommendations (he told me the nachos was his favorite when I was debating between two dishes). Large menu. Authentic Mexican food and delicious margaritas! Does it get any better than this? The handmade guacamole is the bomb. I make guacamole as well and I always compare others to mine. Met a friend here for dinner and was skeptical. The restaurant felt too slick. It felt like it was going to be some trendy wendy version of mexican food. I wasn't hopeful but my friend swore it was delicious so we went. Most of the employees are mexican so that made me feel better. The chips were good. The salsa was a bit bland but decent. The menu seemed typical lots combos of enchiladas, tacos, burritos, tostadas and chimichangas. However, I was drawn to the burrito page. They had a chicken chorizo burrito covered in green sauce. Oh yea. That's good stuff. The rice was light and fluffy. The beans were good. My friend ordered a two enchilada combo that did look typical but he said it was tasty. When I pressed them for a refund they just said "Sorry" and that was all they could offer. No refund, no item replacement. Never order from here. Their food is average at best. That lack of attention might follow the way this location is. When we first entered the restaurant it smelled awful, like raw sewage. Hot, humid day aside, there is a problem in the building! Waffled on flat out leaving but we were hungry. So we decided to eat outside on an 88 degree day, it was rough! BUT a picnic compared to the horrific interior smell that wafted over whenever anyone came outside. Outside, I didn't like that there was food stuck on the table edge. Ick. Unwrapped my fork and knife, dishwasher didn't get those thoroughly clean. Ick. I asked for water without ice, water came filled with ice. Told the waitress about the address on the website, she just argued that she follows google maps. Okay. So maybe if you would have had a half a margarita in you, none of this would matter, lol, but the smell, OMG, ICK, ICK, ICK! Onto the food. Chips & salsa, average. My entree was a vegetable burrito, but it was lacking beans, had to go inside to hunt down the waitress, ick, into the stench & asked for more Beans. My friend had the veggie bowl, she enjoyed it. No -- not a good experience! After traveling for hours and checking into our hotel, we looked at reviews and decided to check this place out. The good thing -- it was close to our hotel. We wanted to sit outside on the very large patio. We had two table to choose from and our sever recommended one over the other. So, we took his advice. Perhaps it was that all the stars did NOT line up for us, but the entire evening was a dinning disaster. The table we were given, or chosen, was near the emergency exit outside. We were slow to be served, and after getting our drinks were asked to move so a patron with challenges needed to get out the emergency exit --- TOTALLY get that and we were happy to move. After that there was an ambulance coming and a member of the management came and started moving our table without saying anything to us! After understanding what was happening we totally moved so that first responders could do get in and help the person in need. We stood for about 15 minutes and then finally the responders brought the person out on the stretcher through the front door. We again took our seat and then were served our dinners which were not correct. Probably because we were ordering while standing up and not even at our table. Shortly there after --- we were told there was a storm and would need to move in --- DONE -- time to leave. When checking out and paying our bill there wasn't anyone at the counter. When the gentleman finally arrived he asked if we had an order to go.... I really cannot remember the food or drinks.. Not a good evening and were not taken care of by the owners or managers. Really disappointed in this Mexican restaurant. The food was "meh". Got the tacos Al pastor. Nothing special, expensive for what you get, and the side of beans were unbelievably bland. The margarita was small, weak, and expensive. Clearly made with a mix, not fresh. There were SO many flies on the patio, it verged on disgusting. I've never seen so many flies on a restaurant patio. The service was just awful. The host who sat us didn't say a word after "how many?" Just led us to the table and walked away. When our server finally took our order, she forgot my margarita. After I got it, she never came back around for refills. When we asked for the check, she told us she was going to take a smoke break first and then she'd bring it. I'm sorry, what? Unacceptable. It's nice to go to a restaurant that closed down the chain next door. I like Tres. I work around the corner and live up the street. They remember us when we come in and treat us like regulars. The food tastes good. There are a few go-to's on the menu for me: El Chavo, Mar y Tiera, Carnitas Tapatias, and several of the fajitas selections. The queso fundido is a good substitution for the salsa - that's one thing that is not very consistant. read more

Ordered a $20 fajitas meal came out seriously under cooked, pepper looked steamed, shrimp were cooked but pink and scallops were white- c'mon PEOPLE want caramelized veggies and a little char on the meat. Everytime I've been to tres it's been amazing. Strong drinks. Love the Cadillac margarita. Fantastic burritos. Staff has always been friendly. Outdoor seating is really nice when the weather is right. Spicy grilled burrito is one of my favorites. One time I ordered be Nachos Del Mar appetizer and just had that for lunch. So much scallops and shrimp! Favorite place to eat in Akron I think. Way underrated. read more

Stopped there on Saturday night around 6:30. We had a group of eight adults and two toddlers. Wanting to eat lighter, I ordered a taco salad. I have to say this was the worst taco salad that I've ever had. It came in a small four inch tortilla bowl and contained ground beef, lettuce (not shredded but actual leaves) a couple slices of tomato (quartered, not diced). Here's the description from the menu: "Crispy Tortilla Bowl, Romaine Lettuce, Tomato, Cheese, Shredded Chicken or Ground Beef, Cream", There was no cheese or cream. In fact I added some salsa to add some flavor. The waitress was very curt and we got the feeling she was trying to get us out quick. In fact, I had ordered a pitcher of lime margarita and there was about a glass full left in there toward the end of the meal. Not even asking me if it was ok (since I was the one that ordered it) she dumped it in friends glass which still had some strawberry margarita in it. My wife said her meal was just ok (beans were cold) and the others said their food was good. Of course I was the one paying the bill and I got the short end of the stick. This has been my husbands and my favorite restaurant since it opened! The fajitas are so fresh- the meat is cooked well and good quality. They also always remember any special request for the order- no tomatoes, black beans instead of refried, no sour cream, etc. We come hungry and always have leftovers!! Also the food comes out so quick. Every time it's about 5 minutes before the dinner comes after we order. Always had great service before this weekend. Hostess sat us quickly, but no one came to the table for at least 10 minutes to ask for drink order. The drinks arrived fairly quickly, but we then waited at least 10-15 minutes before being able to place our order. After 20 minutes our food had still not arrived, however, other tables arriving after us had been seated, served and completed their meals before we received ours. I asked about the delay and the server only said, "she's busy". As a customer, that is the wrong answer to hear and I told him so. I asked for a manager and was told that he was on vacation. Really? A restaurant that doesn't have some manager on duty at all times? We figured that the manager on duty didn't want to be bothered. Left no tip as a result...they didn't deserve it. We might go again in the future and past visits were always fast and pleasant, but we will be more skeptical next time. read more

This restaurant WAS a great place to dine at. It used to have great food and tremendous staff--- very nice, very friendly and very fast service. Well, most of that great staff has left. One staff there, I'm not sure if he is a manager now or not, is an EXTREMELY rude, moody, and angry total a-hole. The service has gotten much worse---slower (sometimes waiters/waitresses "disappearing" for long periods of time). This once great place is going downhill fast.
