Today was a mediocre day at Tresini. We had the widely acclaimed "best one he ever had" 16/18oz bone in New York strip (special entree of the day). We had it medium and another couple had it medium well. Both steaks were mediocre at best. We were surprised with the amount of gristle to cut away. Felt like it was 8-10oz of net steak left!! Thought the menu was very limited and poorly described what you were getting. We didn't like food at all and definitely didn't feel high end. Wouldn't go back. My fiancé and I finally went here for our first time last night and it nothing short of incredible! Sean was our server and treated us like we were family, gave us great tips for making menu selections and helped tie together a memorable dining experience. The cocktails were on point, I had the Manhattan and my fiancé had the Donkey Kick which was a flavor explosion. The food was flawless! We had their signature bread with the Favetta and oils to dip, along with delicious and fresh Cesar salads. Jason Shafer was making pasta that night and it was an experience all itself. I ordered the special with was a Calamarata pasta with a seafood mix in a tomato sauce accompanied by olives and capers, I did not regret my decision. My fiancé ordered the fettuccine with bay scallops which was somehow even better! We capped it all off with the Nutella cannolis, even though we were stuffed we enjoyed every last bite of them too. I ordered takeout last night after a workout class and ordered a grilled Caesar salad with anchovies. I also said "can I have a roll". I went to pick it up and after I paid I realized I just paid $38 for a Caesar salad. They up charged me for the anchovies and bread. They gave me an entire order or bread that I did not ask for. I spoke to the manager and told him, I have NEVER paid $38 for a Caesar salad in my life. Not even in NYC. He said we are an expensive restaurant and anchovies are very expensive. He would not change the bill. The salad was also very small as well. Be careful ordering here. read more

Tresini is an absolute gem! In addition to many memorable meals at this charming Ambler restaurant, Tresini recently hosted the rehearsal dinner for our daughter's wedding weekend. AMAZING sums it up perfectly and was often the word overheard among the 60+ guests at the celebration. From the start, Lauren was a joy to work with in planning, organizing and accommodating some of the special dietary needs of our guests. The room was warm and welcoming and set up perfectly to facilitate flow and conversation - long tables with family style service, a private bar and use of the back area to have blessings and more private exchanges - just right! The food was magnificent (as it always is at Tresini) - so much so that our guests couldn't stop raving about the meal and even asked Chef Brad if he would consider opening a Tresini in their town. How lucky we are to have this gem in ours! All this with impeccable and delightful service. Thank you once again Tresini for reminding us how breaking bread with loved ones not only fills the belly, but also the soul! read more

We were pretty excited to come here however- it was just ok. Service at the bar was verrrrrry slow. Typically a bar tender hits you with water at least asap (especially on a 97 degree day) but it took really long like almost 10 min to order a drink. Yes the stone walls are stunning - no the window air conditioner isn't. There wasn't any back ground music in the bar area so we over heard everyone conversations. And the dining room music was a weird choice of eclectic rock and folk. The lighting was up soooo high (Thank the lord the owner /chef came out and got that adjusted). The Cesar salad was delicious, I suggest dressing on the side because the lady who sat next to me had a Cesar as well and it looked over dressed. I will say that the home made bread and EVOO was so damn good I don't want to know it exists (stupid carbs). ALL of these things can be fixed, little tweaks - Customer service is soooo important everyone should feel liked and wanted and special. I think he needs a good front of the house person who cares about the restaurant like the owner does. We will be back because everyone has to start somewhere and this place has room to grow and be great. read more

Overall: this is a great addition to the Ambler area and should develop extremely well as a higher-end foodie restaurant. I have eaten twice since they have opened and they continue to evolve really well. Their menu has some new additions since first opening, and they had some specials too. Overall, this is a great foodie place and I look forward to coming back! Food: The tastes, flavors, and textures are great. No doubt the chefs pedigree shines through on all facets. Everything is cooked spot on and presentation is well done. There are unique items and those willing to try won't be disappointed. Menu: As noted, the menu is evolving from day-one. There are some new starters and specials. I would say the staff needs to do a better job of engaging the guests on some offerings, and selling various choices that may be signature items or items that great feedback has been given. In short, they should be excited about the unique menu items. As FYI, they are no longer charging for both the bread and oil/balsamic. The menus can be pricey, so I do feel if they evolve to offering a tapas portion or dinner portion for certain items that could help. Environment: they did a great job making it feel comfortable, new, yet accessible. The space does get quite loud so introducing sound absorbing materials on the wall or ceiling is a must. Overall, very nice decor and space. Service: The service will continue to improve overall. It's good in some areas and OK in others. This too will evolve as the place finds its footing, but more active management would help smooth out any bumps. In both of my times there, I never was engaged by the general manager to check in on things. I think that's really important, especially as a new place works through its growing pains. read more

Really liked the experience overall, and will return. My wife and I sat down on a Tuesday in a surprisingly empty dining room. Despite the relatively few customers, we were attended by a waiter who seemed distracted from the start of our visit. He got better. The dishes were very good. The menu was a bit unclear - piatte and antipasti were run together and difficult to order, but we found things that we enjoyed. The pastas and mains were really good; the so-called bucatini was just thick spaghetti, but the preparation was delicious. Not many desserts, but the deconstructed tiramisu was really tasty. Vibe was VERY different from the old San Marco - mostly in a good way. Younger feel, but still need to appeal to us (slightly) older folk, I would think. read more

First time at TRESINI, was excited when they announced the opening and multiple friends had the opportunity to dine here and all had nothing but good things to say. It's all true. The food here was great and our server Sean was nice, knowledgeable and accurate with his recommendations. The Piatta is excellent as a standalone, but was perfect paired (recommended) with the Gratin. The Eggplant Milanese was delicious. For dinner it was Chicken Marsala and Spinach Ravioli, both full of flavor and the texture was great. We ended with the Tiramisu, which was lite and tasty in a unique form. Valentines Dinner could not have been more perfect. I recommend TRESINI and we will be dining here again. read more

First time visiting Tresini and food was great! However, the prices are a bit ridiculous. If you want olive oil and bread, olive oil is $4.50 and the bread is $4.50. I'm assuming you can't just get the olive oil for $4.50 without buying the bread. Also, we got the $50 steak which didn't come with sides so another ~$10 for potatoes. I went full of anticipation but may have placed the bar a little too high for a new restaurant. We had to wait until the waitress came to take our order to order drinks and we asked, she didn't. I wasn't familiar with the wines so ask for something dry,mineraly/flinty. She suggested Moscato vs. asking bar tender. She explained nothing on/about the menu and I'm not convinced she could have (a waiter at a nearby table sounded like he was doing a great job). I had the ravioli and it was very good. Dining partners had rigatoni with pork ragu. They said flavor was okay but very little pork and mom questioned the claim that the pasta was homemade. I would try again but think staff needs better training. read more

I have been here on multiple occasions, and I often return because friends enjoy the food. I find the food to be good and the service to be great. Based on my experience in this last visit, I will not return to Tresini. Our server was very gruff and rude and had an attitude the entire night. At one point, he could be heard slamming the kitchen door multiple times loud enough to startle many patrons. He was rude when we inquired about ordering the Cacio e pepe as it wasn't on the menu, but we had been there the previous week at the bar, and it was available. After two requests for a drink, I finally received one when dinner arrived. The pasta I ordered was raw and way undercooked, and my fork was unable to even break it apart. It took me over 10 minutes to get his attention about the issue, and by the time the kitchen refired, my entire table was finished with dinner. No apology was offered, and no grated cheeese was available. Finally, we asked for no dessert and the check.....we received dessert menus and needed to flag him down for the check. I was able to find the manager before leaving and explained the poor service received. He politely brushed me off and proceeded to grab a drink from the bar. They are definitely not concerned about the quality of service, and the concept of taking care of your customer for repeat business is not of importance. Love this place! The bar and dining rooms are beautiful, the staff is welcoming and eager to help. The food is inventive and excellently prepared, and prices are more than reasonable considering the quality. Unfortunately, after many years, I am a bit hesitant to go into the city for a night on the town these days. Traffic, parking, and crime have all contributed to that. We were so excited to come here and my first visit with a friend in late summer, was awesome! The food was off the charts. We shared the homemade bread with ricotta and honey "dipping, ordered the eggplant milanese to share and then each had an entree. The bucatini with crab sauce was divine. Excellent service! Perfect presentation of food, etc. I was sure I had found my new favorite place. And then I had my second visit, a month later. I felt I was in the wrong restaurant. On a slow Thursday night, with a dinner reservation, we were seated at a high top. Ok no big deal. A pleasant server but with no professionalism waited on us. My husband and I shared a non descript tuna crudo appetizer, the homemade bread and what was supposed to be the "homemade" fusilli, to start. We received basically boxed ROTINI in some kind of thick red sauce. Tasty? I guess. Special for a Vetri chef? Nope. Entrees; The ravioli had basically no filling and were SWIMMING in a pool of tasteless butter. Limp sheets of green pasta in clarifed butter. I cant recall the price but pathetic for what we were served. I went on to have the shrimp dish which was good but not great. Honestly,cant remember dessert. Ended the evening in the bar with espresso martinis. Considered it a win, and chalked it up to a bad night. Which brings me to the next (most likely our last visit). Party of 6. So excited to share this experience with friends. I would not say it was a disaster, but certainly not worth the over $700 bill. We have gotten used to overpriced cocktails, $15 and up. I'm guessing this is the result of owner trying to reinvent the Center City experience. Less than 5 ounce pour of a $20 bottle of wine was also $15. Ok, not loving it but fine. Again, another pleasant server but who should be working in a sports bar. THEN came the food. What the what is happening to this place? Soggy salads, small portion pasta slopped on a plate either swimming in sauce or no flavor at all, a cold $59 short rib, fish dish that was so so. The redemption was actually the chicken! Who would have thought that? We skipped dessert and the bar. I always ask myself, would I go back or recommend this to friends. ? As much as I wanted this to be my new favorite place, it isn't. Great time and amazing atmosphere. The stone room was a little loud but I guess that is what you get when you sit in a "stone room". Sat with my wife in the dining room and it was perfect. The wine list is mainly Italian (which we really enjoyed) and very reasonably priced. The service was friendly. Our server was new (they made sure they told us) which we appreciated and the things he didn't know he was quick to run and find out for us. The food was was to die for. We have a few of the spreads and were super happy with them. We shared the Octopus over pasta and the brown butter raviolis. They both made me want to go back the following day. The best way I can describe this place is by saying the food is very good, but very overpriced. The perfect example is their Ravioli, delicious but they charge 26 dollars for a small serving. I assumed ravioli was spinach stuffed. It's spinach dough and very strong. Really inedible and same for spaghetti. Why ruin fresh pasta with overpowering spinach and oil? Loved the bread and spreads. We're frequent customers of Tresini. The food is consistently very good to excellent but the restaurant is key down by its servers. For example, tonight we weren't given fresh dinnerware silverware between courses, weren't asked if we'd like another glass of wine, and waited a very long time to have our entree plates cleared. Food was good but the menu is not expansive and nothing is special. We were seated at the first table near the bar which was a high-top table. There are only high tops in the first room. My recommendation would be to ask when you make the reservation if it's ok to sit at a high-top. I don't consider high-tops to be a fine dining experience. Plus, it is VERY loud near the bar. I asked to be moved but told we'd have to wait if we wanted to be seated at a regular table. Then, about 7:30, the noise ramped up when live music started in the bar. I simply could not hear what my guests were saying - way too loud. Another recommendation is to wait until later to start live music - 7:30 is still dinner time. The only bread served is for purchase - the server explained it is made over several days - suggesting that's the reason they have to charge for it - which makes it worth it. The bread was OK but it is toasted, so if you don't like the taste of char then don't get the bread. There is no alternative for a regular roll or Italian bread. We ordered a $48 bottle of wine and our server showed up with the $62 bottle and said the $48 bottle isn't that good because you can get it for $10 at the liquor store. It was also suggested the alternative $50 bottle isn't very good, so if you're Cabernet drinkers - this $62 bottle is the one you want. I really resented the upsell. My sister ordered a glass of house Chardonnay and was up sold to the 'not so oaky' Chardonnay on special that night. Being there for our first time tonight I have to admit I was disappointed. read more

We decided to give Tresini a try after seeing the Chef's credentials. He's given the old San Marco building a new lease on life with a modern look. Yes, you are paying for bread, but that piatta was worth it! It paired nicely with the spicy mushroom n'duja. The insalata caesare was nicely dressed and flavorful. We enjoyed the limoncello chicken, shrimp/succotash, and homemade rigatoni, and had the EVOO krimpet for dessert -- all of it was delicious. Kevin was an excellent and enthusiastic server; it is clear that the restaurant is welcoming customer feedback with an aim to gradually expand the menu. My main criticism is that the wood and stone decor amplify sound and it can get quite loud, but that should be relatively simple to address. We look forward to going back to try new things as the menu changes seasonally. read more

We have been here about 7 times and the food keeps bringing me back. The service however is questionable. The service has always seemed a bit haphazard, however our waiter last night was surly and inattentive. We have been here a number of times and sat at the bar which is always a positive experience. The caccio Pepe is exceptional and our friends wanted it in the dining room which is 5 steps away from the bar and our waiter curtly responded that it is not available in the dining room. I was put off my his response and said that seems a little rigid. Which apparently annoyed him but he came back and said they can make it if we had our hearts set on this item and that was the beginning of the end...... The waiter was seen slamming doors, no cheese offered for pasta, and the rigatoni was very undercooked and it took 5 minutes to get the attention of any waiter in I replace the dish. The rigatoni came out 10 minutes later after everyone at the table was finished eating. When we went to the manager to discuss our experience his response was disingenuous I have always loved my meals here but last night was a real turn off because of the service. read more

Dined here for the first time and was really impressed with the selection and quality of the food. The service was spot on, everything arrived in a timely manner in spite of the crowd.
