I lived in San Bernardino for 20 years and drove past the Rustic Inn countless times, always telling myself I needed to try it. Unfortunately, we finally did on Friday after a long day, and the experience was very disappointing. When we walked in, I actually liked the atmosphere. The inside is nicely decorated and definitely captures that nostalgic, old-school feel. Our waitress came over for our drink orders, and I asked if they had Woodford Reserve for an Old Fashioned. She said yes, so I ordered an Old Fashioned and a Double Cheeseburger. My wife ordered a Dirty Martini and the Prime Rib. The drinks came first. I was disappointed to find that my Old Fashioned was made with a different whiskey. If the waitress had come back and told me they didn't carry Woodford Reserve, I would have gladly chosen something else. Instead, I received an Old Fashioned made with something other than what I specifically ordered. My wife's Martini was okay, so I figured we'd give dinner a chance. Unfortunately, dinner was just as disappointing. My wife's Prime Rib was barely warm and extremely salty. The au jus was also incredibly salty. Her meal came with a salad, vegetables, and a small, roughly 2-inch round piece of bread. Of everything on her plate, she said the salad was the only thing she actually enjoyed. My Double Cheeseburger was barely warm as well. The bun was dry and fell apart, almost as if it had been over-toasted. We each took only a couple of bites before deciding we'd rather just get the check and leave. Unfortunately, that turned into another frustrating part of the experience. It literally took about 30 minutes to get our check, and the restaurant wasn't even crowded. It's disappointing because I always thought of the Rustic Inn as one of those San Bernardino places that had been around forever--a place you went for a good drink, dinner, and a little nostalgia. I got a BLT and my friend got the top sirloin dinner. Neither was very good. It also took a long time to get anything done even though they weren't very packed. I already wasn't expecting a lot from a bar. Ordering the steak dinner was stretching our luck but I thought the BLT would at least be good. Note to self: Go to a steak place for steak. This is the local bar that every neighborhood should have. I've always enjoyed the food and drinks and thought we get good value for our money. The crowd can be different from minute to minute, but it's always a pretty safe place to hang out and have a good time with friends. Don't have friends? I looked through years of previous reviews for this place. It appears that people either hate or love Trevor's Rustic Inn. So you can consider this review an update and a compromise. One review complained that it took half an hour to get a salad. Yes, it took about half an hour to get a salad. One review complained that the bathroom was dirty. If you look at my pics, you'll see for yourself that it isn't dirty. But it is OLD and needs some renovation. (A doorknob would be nice!) We stopped by at 4:45 for the Friday prime rib special (no longer $15.95, now $18.95). The specials are served after 5:30, so we left and came back. The service is slow. One waitress for six tables should be faster. My wife gives the prime rib a 5/10; I give it a 6/10. It was well-cooked but barely seasoned. We asked for water, but it never came. To her credit, when we asked for the bill, our waitress looked horrified and said, "I forgot your waters!" After a pause, she asked, "Do you still want them?" I think it's a better watering hole than a restaurant. The drinks were reasonably priced. I didn't notice if the bartender was being rude. It looked pretty calm at the bar. read more

Myself and a colleague wanted to go have a drink at some local bar just to pass the time have a beer, we happen to always drive by the rustic Inn so I figured why not. We were kindly greeted by the bartenders as we entered it was mostly empty mostly regulars we can tell. We sat down and had one beer and each Newcastle and Stella Artois. Right away when we received our beers we tasted or beer and noticed that there was a very slight difference in what we usually know the taste of those beers are the Newcastle was a bit crisper and other one was a little bitter , right away we knew that these beers or either too old or were not at the right temperature as they were poured out. This place is kinda a locals spot but there is always room for one more kinda of vibe. Don't be shy here. I love this place during football season. MNF is the best day of the week. Great deals. Hurry though because there are only two MNFs left!! See you on Monday! I love singing here. It's always dark in here so sometimes it's hard to tell what time of day it is. I have eaten here for years and at the moment they have one of the best cooks they have ever had here. You can't go wrong with their price of $6 gets you a beer and a BLT. Tried to card out and close my tab but the bartender was rude and didn't really pay any attention to me. I met one of my best friends here many years ago (2003ish) when I was living in SB for college. I didn't know many people and one of the girls bartending (they always seem have have kept a friendly bar staff), she introduced me to another girl in the bar and said how much she thought we'd get along. We did!! I feel like that moment kind of summarizes every one of the other thousand times I was in here. I made so many friends and met some really great people. I met the owner (Trevor) and he was as nice as his clientele. It makes sense. There are a couple pool tables, they had shuffleboard, karaoke sometimes, there's a counter at the bar as well as a lot of indoor seating at tables, and a huge outside patio with tables. The back of the patio has a fountain and often there are cats walking around. Yes, furry cats!! I love the meow-faces!! My favorite drink was the Sunday morning bloody mary. It had all the fixin's, including a piece of shrimp hanging off the side. Always perfectly made. Never over-priced. I can't remember costs but a steak and egg breakfast was a handful of dollars and was a huge, fresh portion that the bar tending staff cooks themself. (I thinK - I know they worked the fryers!) While I don't miss living in SB, I do miss this bar and the great people, and I make sure to stop in for hellos whenever I'm around the area. read more

I gave it two stars, because it is in a nice area (the only nice part I think of San Berdoo) while the college isn't too far from there, hence the young people....That was actually expected and they were mellow. I think this was not our night, this was the second bar we ventured to (we hit three in one night), but we came in, it was sorta dying out, no music, everyone was sitting by the booth surrounding the bartender, and I guess she was having a bad night, because she didn't seem to happy (seemed like she was bothered we were sitting there waiting) maybe she too was having a bad night, maybe she was stuck by herself, who knows....but it did suck for us, being it was our first time there & felt like we were invisible observing a bunch of locals drinking & talking very loud, would have been nice to have had some music to dilute the loud conversations though...... & although they have tap, the glasses were alot smaller than the other bars we've been too so yea two stars sorry..... read more

I love the steak and prime rib specials. I had the prime rib not too long ago and it was so amazing and juicy. I do wish however that this bar would be part of bar rescue or let an interior decorator or organizer come in and enhance the environment. While I do understand that this bar receives a pretty rowdy crowd, I would like to see lighting other than that of neon signs and pool table lights. It seems too busy and doesn't really have a particular theme. The place is amazing and has great potential to look that way as well. With the rustic inn, you pretty much get what you can expect in the name. Don't expect nothing fancy, and you won't be disappointed. It's a dive bar with 2 pool tables, karaoke some nights, and decent food. The burgers are amazing, the bartenders are friendly and attentive. Big patio for you smokers.
