I tried Tricky Fish based on many of the reviews here as well as the fact that it was super close to my hotel. The restaurant was incredibly loud. The noise level was more akin to a busy bar on a Friday night than a restaurant. I didn't mind the noise level, as I was dining by myself. However, it did make it difficult to hear my soft spoken server. I decided to go with the fish and chips for dinner. The food was "okay", but not as good as I was expecting based on many of the reviews left here. When my food arrived it was extremely hot. Which in and of itself is a good thing, but it took a bit to cool down and halfway through my meal, my waitress was asking if I wanted the rest of my meal to be boxed up. Definitely felt like I was being rushed out. All in all, not sure that I will be back again or could recommend this place. read more

This is my 2nd time eating from here. I would say the first time I go the Caesar Salad and it was bomb. Today I have the seafood combo with catfish and shrimp; added fried crawfish. Tricky Fish had solid, if not 5 star level food. We got takeout, and I had the shrimp tacos. The blackened shrimp were very tasty, and the slaw was fine. The combination was good, but not amazing. I liked the fries that came with it. My wife got the macaroni & cheese with grilled chicken. I tried some of it, and it was quite good. I'd recommend that dish for sure. The bleu cheese chips were delicious. Pickup for our order was really easy, and the food was ready when I arrived. Staff seemed friendly too. It was good enough that we will definitely be back. I love Tricky Fish, they've got everything you could want from a solid cajun restaurant. The atmosphere is awesome, service is friendly and quick, and the prices are decent. My only qualm is they changed their happy hour from 5-close everyday to 3-7 weekdays only. Bummer. Their fried oysters are my favorite in the area, with the batter being crisp and not too greasy, but still flavorful. They also do a killer grilled redfish. You can't go wrong here. As an appetizer, I chose the calamari - super tasty, especially with fried okra and fried banana pepper rings mixed in. As an entree, I got a fried platter with catfish and oysters - both delicious! The catfish was well-seasoned AND tender-lined, a huge plus for me. #catfishsnob I subbed the standard sides of fries and slaw for fried okra and the Tillamook mac and cheese - great choices, if I do say so myself. They fry their okra without breading, sliced in half down the middle - yum! And the mac and cheese?? Amazing. The service was fabulous as well. We were greeted warmly by the hostess, seated quickly, and our server, Ariauna, was excellent. Attentive, friendly, helpful, always with a smile - exactly what you want your server to be. There was a minor miss with the timing of our appetizer, but she took care of it promptly, no harm no foul. The hostess even came outside to say goodbye as we left - we slipped past her on , but she was on it! :-) So, bottom line, if you enjoy Louisiana-style seafood, you've gotta give Tricky Fish a try. I used to live by the CityLine so I have visited tricky fish a few times. I love the ambiance of the place and the care that the staff takes to keep it clean and make it look orderly. Most times that I patronized them, I sat at the bar and I was never disappointed by the service. The bar tenders are very friendly and take the time to remember your name. I'm not much on seafood, but I did enjoy the fish n chips, and they usually have a fresh catch on special depending on the time of year. The City Line area off GB and 75 has grown so much. It was only a 14 mile drive and we feel worth it. Flint was our server and he did a great job making our experience at Tricky Fish a good one. A bit tough to reel in. They seem to be trying to take the Flying Fish or cajun fish place concept and make it expensive. The flounder was fine, and the rice cooked well, but the calamari leaves much to be desired. It congealed into one big ball of flour and oil and peppers and octopus that was kind of a mess to eat and not very tasty. That said, the okra is awesomely good and probably the most redeeming aspect of my visit. I also wish they would offer table service before 3. Ok. I like the food here. Great gumbo. So much seafood in a good bowl of warm gumbo. The boiled shrimp and fried fish are also a hit. BUT...recently, my friend and I came for their happy hour. We got the frozen margaritas which was $2 off from their regular menu. First of all, it was so fricking thick I couldn't even suck it with the straw (non pun intended). So I sipped it slowly in a period of an hr. We were eating also so we weren't drinking on empty stomachs. By the time I was about to get up and leave, I felt a little buzz. Good thing I live super close so I made it home safe but I didn't feel good at all. I went to lay down immediately bc my head was spinning and it hurt so bad. I imagine this is what it feels like being roofied, except I remembered everything. I took a nap hoping to feel better after I wake up but I didn't. I tried to hydrate with water to feel better but I didn't until I threw up. I texted my friend to see if she's ok or it's just me. Her head was spinning also. It was so bad that it woke her up at 3AM to throw up. We have margaritas many times before (elsewhere) and haven't have any issues. I'm guessing it's because they use the cheapest tequila in the history of tequila that got us sick. My husband had the fried catfish and it was so light and fluffy and not greasy at all. Delicious. The fries were seasoned perfect as well, and the cole slaw tasted great.
