Tricky Fish is awesome!! Our first time here tonight and we really enjoyed it! I had peel and it shrimp and they were perfect for late night meal and seasoning was great! My husband had the fried catfish and it was so light and fluffy and not greasy at all. Delicious. The fries were seasoned perfect as well, and the cole slaw tasted great. Not too much vinegar and not too sweet, perfect. Our drinks were perfect. I tried the Pomegranate margarita and it was fresh and delicious. They have happy hour every day from 5 pm til close with $2 off draft beers, wines, and their featured cocktails which is a fantastic deal. I've been here three times and enjoyed it every. single. time. YUMMMMM. It's in a fun, new area of Richardson and has a super cool interior. We always get the oysters (fresh, flavorful, light). I've tried the fish sandwich (yum yum), fried platter (not too heavy, flavorful), and burger (oh my gosh good). Great cocktails too! I know, I know. First timer here and won't be the last! They have indoor and outdoor self seating. You order and pay upfront and they find you when food is ready. There's a soda fountain to self serve drinks and also a bar inside (not self serve ). I got the po boy catfish sandwich and I had a choice of fries or coleslaw. Of course I picked fries ! The sandwich was huge!!! It had about two huge pieces of perfectly fried cat fish coated in awesomeness! In between were pickles, lettuce, tomatoes and red onions. All in it was $10! Customer service was excellent from start to finish. Food is great. Drinks are excellent. The ambiance is pretty nice. More importantly, they have happy hour from 5-close which is perfect. Their menu is really straight forward. You order at the bar, pick your table and they bring the food to you. The first time we went, we went straight to order, and pick our own table. Yet they get really busier and busier during dinner time on weekends, so you might have to put your name down with the hostess. Words do get around I guess. But we usually hang around at the bar first so the wait don't seem to be that long. My favorite item is the Tricky Fish with dirty rice and fried okra. Their calamari is perfectly seasoned and not creasy or too buttery like other places. Their Crawfish Étouffée is also excellent but might not fill you up. I really, really enjoyed this place. Husband ordered shrimp linguini and I ordered the chicken mac and cheese. We both wanted the other dish as well as our dish, so decided to share both. I thought they both turned out great. Very flavorful, and well cooked. The chicken on the mac and cheese was my favorite. It was grilled perfectly and very tender...probably would have preferred that on the linguini over the shrimp. (Gasp! I question who I am as a person now.) At lunch, you basically walk up and order off of a menu board at a register after being given a table number. Drinks are self serve, and the food is brought out to you. We were told at dinner that it is more wait staff than self serve, but I rrally didn't mind ordering at the counter. The staff was super friendly and gave us the recommendations for both dishes. I came to Tricky Fish as part of a Yelp Elite event, but will be back on my own often. Aside from the generous Yelp perk Tricky Fish offered the food was fantastic and the service top notch. I dined at Tricky Fish on a Friday evening, the restaurant was packed and there was a line of about 3 parties ahead of us. The wait to be seated was not long at all and the hostess and wait staff were beyond kind and attentive even with the huge crowd. Our waitress, Maggie, visited our table often and was very knowledgable about the menu. Let's talk about the food... it was great, point blank, period! We started by ordering the gumbo appetizer. As a bit of a gumbo snob I was not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised to find their gumbo was pretty packed with flavor and lots of meats. My guest, the carnivore king, was also impressed! For entrees, my guest went safe with a fried catfish platter. He loved it and enjoyed how much food was in the platter. Like I said he's a carnivore and likes big portions, the amount of catfish in the platter did not disappoint him. The fries were also just the right amount of crispy - I can second this as I stole a few haha! I picked the store's namesake platter the Tricky Fish with red fish. Y'all, it was amazing. The red fish was fresh, light and packed with flavor, the etouffee was just perfection and the okra was prefectly cooked and seasoned. I usually don't crave fish dishes, but after this dish all I have been craving is fish dishes! I would definitely recommend the Tricky Fish! For dessert we went for a classic banana pudding and it, like everything else we ordered, did not disappoint. The cocktails were all showstoppers, we tasted four different ones to get a full preview of what was offered. The Blossom and the Pom Margarita were fruity, yet strong, drinks that were perfectly tart and sweet at the same time. The Blackberry Crush was my favorite - the berries were crushed fresh into your drink and the lavender gave it a interesting fragrance. The showstopper to the all the cocktails we taste tested was the Crystal Lake Campfire which came in a mason jar filled with smoke. Our waitress brought the jar, and glass (garnished with toasted marshmellows of course) to our table and instructed us to let the drink sit in the jar a bit longer before being poured. Once it was poured, our whole area smelt like a bonfire and the smokey taste lingered into the bourbon. The drink itself was delicious, though very strong and smokey! When I showed my dad, the family's bourbon aficionado, a video of the drink being poured he gave me the look of jealously haha he is planning to go try one for himself soon! We went here with my parents while they were visiting this weekend, and WOW. I got the spicy pineapple mule and it was out of this world! I have been here before and the food I had was pretty good. Wait staff is pretty good too. This last time I had a not so great experience, My dish of jambalaya had a very long black hair in it I noticed that after the kitchen has prepared your food the dish is set on a counter and the wait staff( lots with long hair )hang out over by this area. I know these things happen but I think the food should be set under a warming light away from all the walk through area. I will give this place another try. read more

Christian and Hannah teamed up to take superb care of their customers. The fried green tomato apps were well above average with mini grilled shrimp toppers. Mostly seafood on the menu with a few other options and the choice is difficult. Louisville Bonbon was superb. Oyster BLT is excellent and the slaw is not overly loaded with dressing. I really wish I could rate this 4.5 stars but nothing was horrible/bad so I will give it 5. I am creole and eat Cajun food often... this food is good just lacking a little Cajun flavor in the etouffee. The reddish however was cooked to perfection with great flavor!! The bread was honestly my favorite thing (I love bread)! I'm not a fan of okra but the way they cooked this was amazing! My grandma would be proud of me for eating it lol. City line has come such a long way in the past couple of years. Restaurants are finally filling out the empty spots and tricky fish is one of the most recent additions. Came in for lunch and immediately greeted by the hostess and manager who gave us a slip of paper to present to the cashier that had our table number on it I guess. Kind of reminds me of the way hopdoddy does their seating which is something I like. Since it was my first time I didn't really know what was good and uncertain about what to get. The cashier noticed this and even one of the other waiters running back and forth with food chimed in with a suggestion. I settled on the blackened shrimp poboy with coleslaw and my cousin decided to take the cashiers recommendation of the cheeseburger. We also added an order of oysters just for good measure. The oysters came out first (like they always should - some places give it with your food which for me is a big no no). They were super fresh and cleaned really well. Instead of horseradish, they give you the cocktail sauce with garlic which I ended up liking a lot. Then came the sandwiches. The blackened shrimp had good flavor although they were a little on the small side. Even though they were small, they gave you enough to have a good ratio of shrimp to sandwich. The burger was quite tasty and it comes with a bacon jam which was delicious. The Cajun fries were nicely seasoned and had a good crisp and the coleslaw had great crunch and a nice sweetness. Throughout the meal, our waiter frequently came by to refill our waters and see that we got everything we needed. It wasn't crazy busy so I don't know if the service is always this superb but for my first time there I was impressed. The Calamari starter was supposed to come with fried okra as well. When asked about it, they said they didn't have okra because of the weather (November). Tricky Fish recently opened its first location in City Line (Richardson) and it immediately caught my eye due to the unique bar setup with beer tap lines coming down from the ceiling. As you walk into the front door, you are immediate greeted by welcoming staff. You can order at the counter and grab a table or grab a seat at the bar, which is what I did and far more entertaining. There are two large flat screen TVs in the bar, great for watching games, and the bartenders are very welcoming and entertaining. I had a chance to meet Jason, who is their mixologist, and he was developing the winter cocktail menu. After speaking, Jason kindly ordered a complimentary shot of pineapple-infused vodka for me. It was very good and tasted like pineapple juice with a little kick. I watched (and Snapped) one of the bartenders make a Spice Smoked Orange Old Fashion - they started by turning the blow torch on a block of wood to get a flame, then they put a mason jar on top of the block to get the smokey flavor trapped inside, quickly pouring the Old Fashion mix in the jar and covering it so the smoke can be infused with the Bourbon concoction. Lastly, the bartender took an orange peel, charred it with the blow torch, and rubbed it over the lip of the mason jar. Watching this process was worth the price of admission! I was able to see all of this, while watching the Sunday night football game and I had a fried catfish po' boy with fries. The food was good, the catfish was lightly battered and the French loaf was soft and very filling. I came back to Tricky Fish three nights later for a quick dinner and had a big bowl of gumbo - it was very good and filling. The bartender gave me a sample of the bacon jam, which goes on their burger and also the fried oyster po' boy - watch out, the bacon jam is very addicting and could be dangerous because you'll want to eat a vat of it. For those wondering, bacon jam is finely chopped bacon mixed with molasses and other things to make it a sweet/salty spread of deliciousness. I'll definitely be back and have a list of things to try, including the calamari, the Tricky Fish (namesake dish), burger, oyster po' boy, and many other things, not to mention the fantastic cocktails and beer selection offered. Great location with ample parking on the street or in a nearby parking ramp that's only a couple hundred yards away. I highly recommend it to anyone in Richardson or near Plano and will be back soon! read more

Didn't know what to expect, and was grateful that there was staff around to direct me where to place my order. The atmosphere is real nice...casual, yet very clean and hip at the sane time. My order was ready in decent time. Food was great, got the crawfish platter and it was fresh, not at all greasy, and had large lumps of crawfish. Second time went with my boyfriend. We sat at the bar and had $2 off happy hour drinks. They were delish! My boyfriend got the fish sandwich and OMG it was so good that I forgot what I ordered. We also had the fresh pork rinds which are my favorite snack of all time. I normally have to go to Filmore Pub to get them, but not anymore! The bartender was awesome, he made a gigantic pineapple mule for the couple next to us and never had I been jealous of someone else's drink before.
