We noticed some water leaking into the pan and Jacob, who was great, determined that we had to have one 5gal Expansion Tank and two Temperature and Pressure Relief Valves replaced. Where the problem comes in, is the outrageous pricing. They charged us aprox. $700 labor for a 1 hour job. The total time of the whole job with the consult was about two hours. With half that time being used chasing parts. He said that he didn't have the parts on the truck and had to go to both Lowes and Home Depot to find a tank. Not really my problem and I really don't think it's fair to include that time in my overall job. But, nonetheless they don't break it down. He just gave me an overall estimate of the job which was $914 after a $50 coupon. I asked him if it was a pretty fair price for the area, he said yes and I told him to go ahead and do it. I do take some responsibility in the fact that I didn't look through the iPad estimate myself and I assumed it was a fairly timely project. To my surprise, it took about 45 minutes from the time he walked into the basement with parts and was leaving my house. I was kind of left dumfounded at why a 45 min job cost so much, so I looked up the price of the actual parts. On the high end they would have cost about $200. So basically, I was charged $700 in labor for 45 total minutes of work. I called to speak to them about it afterwards and they explain some sort of overall job price that they use. They charge everyone the same whether your job takes 45 minutes or 4 -5 hours. I wasn't explained this or I would have looked for a second opinion. I thought I would be charged a fair price for MY specific job. That's not how they work I guess. I'm not naive to the fact that they have to factor in other costs, but that's just egregious in my opinion. So my recommendation is to get a SECOND opinion. Don't trust that it's a fair price like I did. I won't be recommending them on any review or my neighborhood FB page and will only caution people who ask. If anyone has questions or would like to see the invoice, I'd be happy to discuss. I needed a well pump replacement estimate. The owner came out and as we were talking I was…read moreinforming him of a pressure situation I was having. He wanted to see the cycle stop valve that was just installed. He then wanted me to open up faucets in the house as he started to adjust the pressure on the valve. So after about 1/2 hour the pressure was adjusted correctly. So he also inspected the voltage and amp draw from my well pump and informed me that the pump was drawing more amps because with age they do that. So when we were walking out I essentially gave him a blank check because I didn't ask before now how much this was gonna cost me. My fault for letting him put hands on before an estimate was given! $325 for a simple adjustment or free adjustment if paying $1900 for a well pump replacement. Ouch. Ok. Agreed. Says he wanted $1000. down and the rest when completed. I agreed. Have him my CC info. About an hour later, all $1900 was taken off my card. Hmm Fast forward to the day of install. The 2 gentlemen. Very nice. Pulled my pump. Did all that needed to be done. When finishing up, didn't seat the wellhead cap on correctly. Nor did they connect the pvc pipe that the electrical wires run correctly. Oh, and no gasket. So it leaked water for almost 2 months from the top of the wellhead. Water draining into the electrical pipe. Black tape around the top of it. Not a very professional job by any means. Me, a first time well owner. Not knowing any better until now (5months later) that they should have run the well BEFORE re connecting to the house!! Running it to get the mud and crap out of the line so that crap( mud , clay) do not end up in your acid neutralizer and all your filters and, not to mention your water softener!! Oh ya, and your water heater!!!! It cost me just over $500 to get all of the media and resin replaced and my water heater flushed and sucked out! The mud and clay that was cooking in my water heater was smelling worse and worse. It was disgusting! I should have taken a picture of a sock type filter I had. It was full to the top with mud and clay. I can only imagine what would have happened if we would have drank this water. Live and learn every day! That's the only way one can be smarter! There were red flags all over this. Should have known.

It should've been a red flag right away that the front desk person who answers the phone said "I have no access to pricing"; like it would really be impossible for her to have some kind of quick price list next to her phone to give me a ballpark of what I could expect it to cost? She would not tell me anything about pricing and said someone had to come out, but that "there is no charge for an in-home inspection." Of course no one's expecting an exact, to-the-penny quote over the phone, especially without even seeing it, because everyone's situation is different. But she wouldn't even give me a price range of what to expect. These people have done a job for me before and I was happy with the price and everything like that, ...but I think they're using variable pricing and sizing you up by sending someone into your house first to feel you out on what you can probably afford and then they present you with "fixed" price options off of a tablet anyway. Well, I've got to ask. If the option prices are fixed on a tablet, why can't the person answering the phone give somebody a price range??? Anyway, the guy came out and told me it was going to be $520 to unbolt the toilet, lift it up, reseal, and then bolt it back down. He was literally not even in there for 22 minutes. This tactic is designed to make you feel pressured and under the gun to just go ahead with it because now you've got someone standing in your house waiting for an answer. If the lady had told me over the phone that it was going to be over $500, I probably would've said "Thank you for your time. I'm going to call around and get some more prices." They knew that once they had someone in the house and ready to do the job, you're probably going to go forward with it because the next company might say "yeah I'll do $400 and I'll see you in three weeks" I talked to some friends later who had similar work done recently and they said "You paid how much????!! The standard for that job in this area is about $350. You got had." I'm never going to use Smooth Plumbing again, I strongly recommend you don't either.

I had a hose spigot under the deck replaced and a "repair kit" applied to the spigot in the front. The replaced spigot required very minor drywall removal in the basement. Job was under two hours and over $1,000. I'll never know if I was taken or not, but it sure seemed high. If that is the going rate then so be it, but I'm thinking it's not.
