Had a doctors appt yesterday which is right down the street from here so why not come in ? I could have came on Tuesday but why wait. As soon as I came in there was no line so I ordered my usual, a large italian coldcut with everything no mayo extra oil and vinegar. While waiting I was asked was I taken care of yet. One thing I value is good customer service! My wait time was about ten minutes. The size of the sandwich is pretty big and the cost is less than ten bucks so thats a win win situation. Now the taste of it is a 10/10 and it is always the same everytime I get it. I let my boyfriend try half of my sandwich me being nice LOL and now he wants 1 next time I go. One of the few old and great remaining family owned businesses in Baltimore City. Trinacria is located in what was a decent part of west downtown. Over the years they have weathered the west side decline and urban blight, while somehow maintaining their fair prices, quality and homemade foods, and a welcoming environment for all city residents. The neighborhood around Trinacria is slowing improving however I hope it never "gentrifies" and prices these folks out of their N Paca St building, as that would be tragic. Buy their cold cut sub and pop squat on the curb out front. Buy some of their homemade pasta and sauce for a meal later; and don't forget to take home some of their $4 bottles of decent wine! As a deli it seems very popular but I have never purchased packaged goods there so I will refrain from commenting on that aspect of their business further. The food is amazing at the deli counter. So far I've had the Italian coldcut sub, the meatball sub, and the chicken Caesar salad. Salad was fine; nothing special but decent. The Italian sub was phenomenal... high quality meats and a hearty portion. But the meatball sub was the winner. They hollow out the sub roll; stuff it with huge tasty meatballs, sauce, and cheese; and then cram the doughy goodness back on top. I will absolutely return. I had the pleasure of trying one of their sandwiches yesterday and instantly fell in love! My cousin brought me an Italian meat sandwich with real mozzarella cheese and pesto. When I say "real mozzarella" I'm not talking about the one you buy at the supermarket. I'm talking about the one that is thick with pride and joy and authentic! This place was delicious. I ordered the special - Tre Funghi Ragu. The chef described it as ravioli stuffed with 3 kinds of mushrooms over ragu. The ragu was made of pulled pork that had been cooking for 8 hours, proscuitto, italian sausage, and porcini mushrooms, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic reduction. While the ravioli had a distinct mushroom flavor, the ragu tasted mainly of pulled pork in a tomato sauce. Don't get me wrong, still amazing. It might be my lack of a pallet, but I couldn't taste too much of the mushroom in the pork. The ravioli itself was amazing and the portions fairly generous. Each ravioli was about 3 inches in diameter. I will definitely be back to try their sandwiches. This plate was around $14 but most of their items are under $10. Update: I know some others have already complained, but the address is WRONG. Trinacria Food Store is located on Paca, but their Cafe is located in Mt Vernon. Same owner, 2 VERY different locations. The address is 111 West Centre Street, corner of Park Ave and Centre St. They hours are also wrong. They are open until 7:30pm, so definitely drop by for dinner. read more

Upon entering, I was immediately reminded of Boston's North End, an area quite close to my heart. Nostalgia definitely washed over me. Before you ask, Trinacria Italian Cafe is, indeed, related to Trinacria on Paca Street - it is the same business owner and this is an extension of the store. Well, sort of. Instead of selling products to make your own Italian goodies, this restaurant sells them already made for you to devour - I mean, eat. The menu is surprisingly extensive, even though there's really only a few basic items to choose from. Soups, hot and cold subs, salads, paninis, pizza and pasta are all de rigeur on the menu; there is a limited selection of drinks, including hot Americano and San Pellegrino waters (which, in my opinion, is the best thing ever, but I digress). They also sell a limited amount of their famous Italian cookies and pizzelles to take out, as well as some of the best desserts you'll ever find (tiramisu, anyone?). They also have breakfast items here. Yes, breakfast. Trinacria Cafe is open from 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week. Talk about convenient! I've always had trouble finding time to get to the regular store for a muffaletta. Not any longer! I had a Caesar salad with grilled, marinated chicken. Nothing fancy, but I like to keep it fairly simple when I first visit a new place. The salad was plentiful and had what was probably the tartest Caesar dressing I have ever tasted (for me, this is not a negative). Along with, what else, a San Pellegrino. Blood orange. Absolutely delish. Things that I plan to try on my next visit(s) and what appears to be highlights of the menu: Tre Funghi Ravioli: Described in the menu as "drizzled with olive oil and an aged balsamic reduction on a bed of slow-roasted shredded pork, proscuitto, Italian sausage and porcini mushroom ragout". Oh-em-GEE, you guys. Porchetta Panini: Described as "thinly sliced, dry-rubbed roasted pork loin with sauteed onions, provolone and roasted sweet red pepper spread". Okay, now I want to go back there. The review is really 4.5 stars, because there are a few kinks to be worked out. It's only been less than a week, though, and if this place is run as well as the store, it'll all smooth out over time. It was already packed pretty good when I went in there today, and they've been open since February 11th, so the word's getting out. Conveniently located on the corner of Park Avenue and Centre Street, 2 blocks from Charles. This is where the old bD restaurant used to be. I will definitely be back for an update. Entrance is on the Park Avenue side. Update: The address listed is WRONG. I don't know who "updated" it, but I've written several times about it - the address listed is the DELI up on Paca Street. The staff here is incredibly friendly and the deals are amazing! The absolute best thing here is the prosciutto bread! When it's warm it's to die for! Warm, tasty bread with chunks of prosciutto, salami, and cheese baked in...a meal in and of itself! The deli meats are reasonably priced, and the sandwiches are incredibly good. Italian grocery selection is quite abundant, and they have great deals on table wine and wine for cooking. The cheeses sauces and pastas are cheap and delicious. Super authentic little italian shop! It may look a little sketch on the outside, but head on in! They have super authentic Italian items - pastas, pasta sauce, fresh baked bread, wine, deli meats, cheeses, the list is ENDLESS. So many things to try! Their deli meats are nice and fresh. Love the roast beef and ham that we tried. They have homemade canned pasta sauces - we tried the vodka sauce and it was good. We mainly came here because I saw on yelp that they had yummy sandwiches and shopping for other items was just another perk! We tried a chicken parm and a special sandwich (on their specials board) that I can't remember the name of, but it was some type of veal. Both sandwiches were made hot to order and were absolutely delicious. They were probably around $10ish dollars or so give or take depending on the sandwich, but it's worth it because these were pretty large sandwiches. Half of one was a pretty decent size for lunch for me! Bread was soft and yummy, the meats were hot, moist, and delicious. They were pretty decent chunks of meat and the melted cheese on the meat just made it great. Sauces were flavorful and just perfect! It's so easy to spend a lot of money here. The deli meats and cheeses alone, might be on the expensive side, but it's the price you pay for delicious fresh cuts of meat and authentic cheese. People working there were super nice and helpful even though they were swamped! Love service like that! This place is great, especially for boyfriend, who goes to pharm school. After walking awhile through a somewhat sketchy neighborhood, I stopped in front of a tired looking shopfront. Inside, it's bustling with people with staff calling out numbers to fulfill customer orders. Be sure to grab a number ticket on the left when you first enter the store. Trinacria Macaroni is deli and a dry goods supermarket rolled into one. They have various dry goods (pasta, canned sauces, etc.), fresh baked bread (the Prosciutto Bread seemed to be very popular and kept flying off the shelf), a variety of olives, a section of cold/frozen homemade pastas and Italian dishes, cold cut deli counter, and some pastries/Italian cookies/dessert section. They also sell a variety of wines priced quite reasonable/cheap. I ordered a few cannolis and an Eggplant Parm Panini. I'm a big sucker for eggplant anything and back home, I always get eggplant parm heros when I can. The size of the sandwich was quite generous. I would have actually preferred to have another thin layer of eggplant in the sandwich, but it was still satisfying. The bread was superb; Nice delicate, crisp crust with a soft and plushy interior. I wished they had a grilled eggplant or eggplant cutlet sandwich with fresh mozz, roasted red peppers, basil, drizzled with some balsamtic vinegar. But, they do have a large sandwich menu consisting of various Italian-style cold cuts (ie: sopressata, prosciutto, etc). I was able to use my groupon, which made my trip here even more enjoyable. However, I would definitely come back with or without a groupon deal though. The quality here is not bad for the price. They also had the kind of olive tapenade I prefer with much smaller pieces than DiPasquale's. The olive oil that the peppers were soaked in was also what one would think is an excellent olive oil. This seems like a great little Italian grocery/deli, of the kind that I've only seen in Italian neighborhoods in Boston and New York before. It's probably nice for the people who work in this location to have it as a lunch option, and it definitely seemed like plenty of locals were dropping in to pick up sandwiches for lunch. This place also had loaves of fresh bread (prosciutto, olive, rosemary, baguette, etc) as well as cannoli and cookies, in addition to the grocery store stock of pasta, sauces, meats, and cheeses. The only disappointing thing for me was that I couldn't justify buying more than a sandwich, because I wouldn't be able to eat everything! I bought a prosciutto pannini with fresh mozzarella and roasted red pepper. It was enormous, meaning 6-8 square inches of sandwich; I'm saving the rest for tomorrow, since I had yogurt and fruit to eat, but i was tempted to finish the whole thing. The mozzarella was soft and fresh, and the proper was good, but I could've fine with more burnt/roasted flavor. This place also sells espresso drinks, which I unfortunately didn't realize until after I'd already paid. The staff were friendly, if a bit brusque (because they were busy helping the many people who apparently love the sandwiches). We are big fans of their lasagnas. Although I have never been to the shop, my sister (who is a Baltimore local) provides their gooey and substantial lasagnas when our family visits. We absolutely look forward to her (their) lasagnas. She buys them frozen, then prepares them in the oven and serves them with salad and wine. Literally what a market should be! The perfect place for pantry staples, quick to-go offerings and cheap wine. The staff is beyond amazing and friendly. Takes me back to the days when you knew the name of your butcher down the block. Make a homemade pizza or pick up a warm loaf of bread and prosciutto. The look of this place looks really run down. We almost walked right passed it. Inside the place, there's bunch of Italian grocery items and in the back is the deli area where you can order food. I got the prosciutto sandwich and the Italian cold cut sandwich. The prosciutto sandwich was huge and it was good but it didn't have enough flavor for me and just wasn't my kind of sandwich. The Italian cold cut sandwich however I really enjoyed. I asked for everything in it and one of the ingredient was hot peppers and that gave that extra kick that made the sandwich very flavorful. There are countless reviews raving about how great this place, which I completely agree, so I won't really continue to beat a dead horse. I just thought I'd throw out my few pros and cons of Trinacria. Pros: Prosciutto bread, frozen pizza dough, exceptionally cheap bottles of Verdi, almond biscotti and the fresh mozzarella sandwich Cons: Chocolate dipped almond cookies (the chocolate tasted old), the said bags of frozen pizza dough not being closed with anything but twisting the bag itself and the fact that the freezers drip water all over the food inside. I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, but is no one else bothered by that? I've been dying to buy the containers of frozen raviolis or homemade meatballs but it just doesn't seem right.
