Trinacria is a wonderful Italian grocery store where you can get all kinds of pasta, canned tomatoes and other dry goods to prepare Italian meals. They also have a large variety of home made meals like lasagna, scampi, ravioli that are frozen and ready to heat up at home. Huge selection of Italian oils and vinegars. Great deli section where you can get sandwiches to go. Homemade marinara and other fresh sauces in jars. Wonderful tiramisu, cannoli and other homemade desserts. The best prices on bottles of wine you will ever find. You can buy bags of fresh mozzarella, meatballs and more. There is metered parking in front of store and a free parking a half block away. read more

Sorry Trinacria, was trying to find a reason to give a great review but simply couldn't. Went there years ago and was underwhelmed but figured I'd make another effort. Standard Italian sandwich was ok but nothing great- no standout bread, average meats - a very average sandwich. Not what you'd expect from a "known for Italian deli food" type of spot. Appetizer of sausage and peppers was sliced sausage (awkward) of ok taste in a sea of marinana sauce. The three stars is me being nice because I respect the establishment's history. read more

Same name, same great authentic Italian deli. When I found out about the new Trinacria cafe I had to go immediately, and now even close to where I live and with better hours. The new cafe is open mon-sun from 8am-8pm (although when I asked, they said they usually close earlier around 6 or so depending on how busy it is in the evening). Lunch time is when its busy. Unlike the original deli on paca, the cafe has plentiful seating. Same great italian deli cold sandwiches and hot paninis as the original, including breakfast sandwiches on my favorite focaccia. (there's now pizza, wings, chicken tenders, fries, etc but I would stray away from these american grill staples and stick with the italian stuff) Overall the italian meats and breads are as solid as the original. What's lacking are the italian market stuffs found at the PACA location, as well as the homey feel. The new cafe serves up the same great sandwiches but lacks some of the charm of the market....hence the 4 versus 5 stars. read more

I've been shopping at Trinacria for over a year now, and it's safe to say that these people don't know the word "bad" when it comes to service, product, selection or friendliness. Even on the busiest of days (Christmas and New Years shopping) they are always nice, despite having lines as long as day. And as a customer, you never worry - short lines, long lines, either way, you're leaving with great stuff. I'm a self-proclaimed bottom-shelf wine-connoisseur, so I'm a Crane Lake fan. When my friends (prepping for a wedding) told me that Crane Lake was $4 a bottle here, I decided I had to come. I had only been to the deli before, but now I'm a regular at both. About once a month, I gotta grab some sauce and noodles to feed my pasta addiction, and then twice a month, I grab some wine. Even the close out $7 is good (...you gotta be bad for my standards lol) and allows me to try diff brands that I might not try elsewhere. And that staff knows their wine just as much as they do their meats. I love their sauces...LOVE them! I'm able to get a homemade taste without doing any of the work...makes throwing dinner together easy and tasty. Today, I went to get some olives...their pitted herbed kalamata and pitted spice green olives are soooo good. I was tired of paying $6 at the grocery store for olives that barely last a week, and the BF suggest I buy from here. (idk why he suggested it, bc he's never been, but I'm glad he did.) They are so GOOD! This will def be my Olive Spot from now on...a sentence I never would have dreamed of saying, but hey, I'm a grown up now. Wow. WOW. I mean seriously, this place is a foodie's dream. First off, HUGE thanks to the yelper that recommended the muffaletta, I honestly think this is one of the top 3 sandwiches I've ever had and certainly the best sandwich I've had in recent memory. It is off the charts delicious. I also picked up 2LBs of sausage (pretty sure they make it on-site) and peppers, for a whopping total of $7.60. So good and the sausage was amazing. Also picked up some mozzarella and prosciutto stuffed hot peppers, which I've yet to sample. They have tons of wine, olive oil, baked goods, frozen foods, fresh pasta sauces, spices and ready to cook pastas. I lived in Baltimore for 2 years and somehow managed to miss this place... what a shame. Go, go now and go often. PS. Not the nicest neighborhood but that pretty much describes all of Baltimore anyways so whatever. read more

Trinacria is a beautiful, beautiful thing. I don't understand why anyone would go anywhere else for their quality Italian cuisine needs when you have almost everything here and for effin' CHEAP (what a concept!). Maria pretty much covered everything but here are a few other things of note: 1) The amazingness of their deli counter needs to be reiterated--the bulk olive oil, the CHEESES, the delicious deli meats, oh and the OLIVES! I don't think I'll ever buy bulk olives anywhere else. 2) Italian cookies!! By weight! And cheap! 3) The frozen meatballs and eggplant parmesan made by the store make good easy meals. Oh and they have great pre-made sauces. Who the hell needs Prego? 4) One stop spot for impromptu fancy picnics. Made-to-order sandwiches + wine + cookies = good to go. Some tiny, tiny gripes: 1) Sometimes the bulk basil is a bit sketchy but when it's fresh, it's a good deal. 2) Like most everything in downtown, they close early (4:30pm) and they're closed on Sundays and Mondays. Sadness. 3) Bring your own shopping bag! Which I fully support but sometimes, I just forget and have to haul everything awkwardly in a cardboard box. Trinacria has been on my bookmark list for about 5 years and now that I live closer to it I bike here on routine outings for cheap wine and great Italian groceries. Meats and cheeses are great. Sausages are excellent. Service is friendly like that old world Italian market that you would expect but then again where else are you going to find an old world Italian market today? I have said I am not a food snob, and it's true. But I am half Italian-American, which means, among other things, that I am not familiar with the concepts of storebought tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese from a can. I know the difference between rotini and rotelle. I have a spaghetti jar and it is always stocked. And as much as I usually shop at hippie organic markets, buying Italian groceries at those places usually isn't worth the unnecessarily high prices and weird selection. I know there are a couple of other independent Italian groceries in Baltimore, even if you don't count Ceriello Fine (read: bougie) Foods in Belvedere Square. Mastellone's and DiPasquale's are great and each have their own local followings, but as for me...I keep coming back to Trinacria. This tiny place on an otherwise completely uninteresting block on the west side of Downtown has been around since 1900. It has always been owned by the same family. They've got a fabulous selection of imported canned goods, pastas and other groceries, but I always get the store-made dry pasta ($0.79 a pound last time I checked). Recently they've started selling olive oil in bulk--bring your own bottle or buy one of theirs. In the back and lining the front of the deli counter are various random varieties of wine, seriously priced to move. Wine clearance and special prices range from $3.99 to $6.99 a bottle. And oh, the deli counter. Italian cheeses (Reggiano for $10.49/lb--take that, Whole Foods), homemade Italian sausage, cold cuts, and a few different kinds of olives. Sandwiches made to order are heavenly--what makes the difference is the crusty, homemade bread and fresh ingredients. Trinacria is pretty old-school. They're not open into the evening or on Sundays. I'm pretty sure they only started accepting credit cards within the last year or so. And it can get packed on Saturdays when people come from far and wide to stock up for the week, so take a number. The location is odd, but convenient if you live in Downtown, Mt. Vernon, Seton Hill or Bolton Hill. Also convenient for me, a former Baltimore resident who now mostly comes into town for classes at UB. The staff is always friendly and helpful and they do remember their repeat customers. I hesitate to spread the word on this place, because its soooo good but usually packed from 11am-2pm. Grab a number and get one of their sandwiches (the homemade focaccia is amazing). I would recommend a smoked turkey with fresh mozzarella, pesto, and red peppers. The $3.99 Gato Negro Malbec is a great pick for the price. I also suggest getting some Italian cookies, the almond biscotti by the pound from the display in the back, butternut squash or lobster ravioli, and the prosciutto roll (usually warm when you pick it up on the early side of the day). An orange San Pelligrino is the perfect compliment to any meal from this place. You can't beat their pricing on olive oil, pasta, and pizza crusts. All in all, you can eat like a king for under $10. Everyone loves this place, but I must confess that I was disappointed. I ordered the daily special, a porchetta panini. My order was "to go" because there's no place to sit down on the premises. My sandwich was wrapped in foil and then in butcher paper. It was huge, and it cost only $7.99 + tax. Walking away with my package, I congratulated myself for passing up the local Subway in favor of the *real thing*. I unwrapped my panini about 15 minutes after receiving it at the counter. It was limp and cheesy. There's nothing fundamentally wrong that I can convey through descriptions like this, but the bottom line is that the sandwich tasted kind of "meh." My sandwich alone would merit a two-star review. On the other hand, it's abundantly clear that Trinacria Foods is awesome. It certainly has a lot of character. The customers who were around when I walked in were visibly regulars. They knew the personnel by name and were happy to greet a newcomer who ventured through the door (that's me!). Trinacria has an interesting selection of Italian and US wines; I saw no bottle more expensive than $13.99. The neighborhood features what realtors call "disharmonious elements": there were plenty of guys on N. Paca Street looking for action of one kind or another. This has got to be the best Italian deli/market in Baltimore city. The sandwiches(especially the turkey w/olive tapenade on foccacia) are phenomenal. I plan on trying every one on the menu. And the selection of real deal italian products for purchase is overwhelming. I will never buy pre packaged pasta again. At Trinacria it's made fresh IN-HOUSE! Wow. How have I lived in Baltimore almost 3 years and not been to Trinacria until now. My new lab likes to do lunch on Fridays so yesterday they chose Trinacria. Located on Mulberry and Paca, It's a bit of a walk from work, but it was totally worth it. From the outside, you would not expect an Italian grocery with so many wonderful goodies just waiting for you on the inside. The windows are grated and look like they haven't been washed in 50 years. And the whole block around it is completely deserted...most other buildings look boarded up and/or abandoned. The sandwiches are absolute heaven. I had the prosciutto with mozzarella and pesto on foccacia bread. mmm soo good. And I also bought their prosciutto bread. That was amazing. I brought it home to my folks' and we devoured it. On Fridays their lattes are half-price. I got a large for $1.75! I will definitely be coming back here. In addition to their made to order sandwiches, they sell all sorts of deli meats and cheeses, dried pasta by the pound, frozen lasagnas, wine, cookies. Everything is so reasonably priced!! Such an amazing place! Trinacria is a treasure trove of deliciousness, but you wouldn't know it from the street. The grated windows and general dingy appearance are deceiving, but don't let it stand in your way. At Trinacria, the diversity of delicacies available seem endless. There simply isn't enough space here, or time for that matter, to list them all. Basically, there is everything you need to make a phenomenal Mediterranean meal. My personal favorites are: 1. Fresh sliced meats - all fresh and half the price you pay at a supermarket 2. Deli sandwiches - made to order (even call ahead). get one with tapenade! 3. Pre-prepared, frozen lasagna, eggplant parmesan, sauces, meatballs, etc - awesome for a quick, delicious meal without the fuss. 4. Coffee! - super cheap and incredibly strong. An americano for $1. Can you beat that? 5. Cookies - does it need an explanation? 6. Olive oil - bring your own container and they'll fill it for super cheap 7. WIne - a large variety, and some on special for as cheap for $3.99. 8. Fresh baked breads - kalamata olive loaf, yum! I could go on and on. Go and explore. Trinacria is a great local Italian deli. It's very cozy and homey. My favorites are the frozen entrees - love the meat lasagna as well as the jarred sauces. The focaccia is great especially if you can grab it early in the morning when it's freshly baked. And, don't forget the frozen garlic bread, so good. However, there are two it seems and I can never tell the difference from the outside. One is gooey and buttery, garlicky and just what you want from garlic bread, the other is a halved loaf rather than slices with a heavy sprinkling of Parmesan. The former is wayyyyy better than the latter. The only nays - I have tried the olive oil but didn't find it particularly special. It's pretty inexpensive but you can get better at TJs for even less. The deli meats are hit or miss. The salamis are wonderful, but the others leave something to be desired. The ham is just standard water-logged ham and I'm not sure the roast turkey deli meat is even meat (see picture). I was highly disappointed when I arrived home to find a package of slices that looked like wet brain. Next time, I'll ask to taste or at least see any deli meat that I buy. read more

I love this place to get fresh cheeses, breads (GREAT bread here, all types!!) at a reasonable price. I love coming here when I'm making an Italian feast because they have everything here!!! I finally tried their sandwich, their Smoked Turkey Panini which was just OK- they gave you a lot of meat, and it was good all thinly sliced, but it was a bit too much meat for me. There were chunks of artichoke and roasted peppers, but there was no sauce or consistency to pull it all together so when you took a bite, it was like eating all the ingredients separately. and the bread wasn't as crispy as I would like it. I only knew of this tiny shop and it's offerings because of the Yelp reviews and it's consistent placement on the top of the list of Best of Baltimore, so I finally gave it a shot for lunch. Yes, the street parking can be challenging, there are old-school coin parking meters on Paca, so bring quarters. I had the prosciutto, mozzarella and pesto sandwich on foccaccia and it was fabulous, huge, tasty and a great value for $5-6. Also tried some of the Pignoli cookies and they were yummy and fresh. This grocery/deli seems like the go to for anything italian (domestic/imported) and they have an overwhelming amount of dried pastas, wines and everything you would ever need to prepare an authentic italian meal. read more

Maybe we're not with the majority on this one, but we're not big fans of Trinacria, or of its hours. Compared to sandwiches from other places, the bread is less flavorful, the meats aren't as fresh, and the waits are longer. Definitely much more a fan of Di Pasquale's over the sandwiches from here. Their selection of ravioli is nice - but it's all frozen, and expensive. We choose the fresh ravioli at Whole Foods instead - similar price, and not frozen. read more

I've lived across the street for years now, and end up at Trinacria about once a week or more. My Grandfather used to pick up sauce, meatballs, and cannoli's from here when I was a child. I re-discovered it about 5 years ago. I would say the real gems here are not the obvious goodies. I'll fill you in: -Proraso shaving creams/aftershaves - clean and fresh mentholated stuff that you need a brush for, but the best I've ever tried. 8 bucks a tube (lasts 6 months or more) -Manhattan espresso soda -Italian Tuna Sub - divine mix of tuna/olive oil/muffaletta sauce/mayo/anchovy paste -Old fashioned Copa -Breakfast sandwiches - HUGE and made with any meat/cheese combo from the deli! -Coffee - cheap and good -Crane Lake - Cab Sav - is actually palatable and for $4 Have Mike pick you out a bottle of wine though. Parking is generally free anywhere in the area. Meter maids are around twice a day. read more

This place by far as to be one of my favorite Italian groceries in the Baltimore metro area. Everything they have is strictly old world and imported from Italy. The macaroni is always fresh, and their homemade gravies are beyond compare. I would even go as far as to say their gravy rivals my own. And that's an awful lot of boasting from me, because I hold a great amount of pride in my own culinary skills. I would even go as far as saying should I find I'm too lazy to cook, this place will provide me with a prepared dish that will satisfy my every desire for old world cuisine. I absolutely love and adore this little grocery. To top it off as you can tell from my past reviews I absolutely adore family owned businesses. This is another one of those establishments that brings great pride in my history and culture. The only downside to this place is a finding of a space to park and can be a little bit trying from time to time. I would highly recommend you go first thing in the morning. However, there are pay-to-park parking lots within a block or two from the grocery. If you're in the mood for some authentic fresh homemade food; this is definitely the place for you! read more

I used to live two blocks from this Italian mecca. My only regret is that I didn't go often enough. Word to the wise, take a number as soon as you get there (next to the door as you enter) and quarantine a section of the checkout counter for your dry goods. Then, when your number comes up at the deli, the same person that got your cuts for you will most likely check you out immediately. These folks strive to make your grocery stop as quick and painless as possible without making you feel like you're being pushed out the door. Keep an eye out for the dirt-cheap, but drinkable, wine specials stacked in boxes on the floor. The bulk olive oil is very flavorful as well. If you can slip away for lunch a bit early or later or you just have enough time to wait in line, have them put together a muffuletta. You absolutely will not regret it. Trinacria looks unassuming from the outside but inside, it's a veritable heaven. You're hit with delicious smells as you walk into the door. They have a wonderful selection of sandwiches, warm and cold, desserts, wine, pastas, and various other Italian culinary goods. The place was bustling both times I've been now but the line goes quick. The service was warm and friendly and they were happy to answer my questions. I've tried the Veggie sandwich and the Prosciutto sandwich. Both were incredibly delicious and a terrific deal for the price. Also had the Tiramisu which was a solid buy. Words cannot express my excitement about Trinacria. I wanted to write something special in honor of the big 3-0 (Yelp, not years) and this place is one of my favorites. We've only been shopping there since 2010, but it feels like I've been going there all my life. The exterior, as others have mentioned, does nothing to encourage a visit. In fact, the first time I came, I almost didn't think I had the right place. But when I jingled the door open, I stepped into another world: the narrow aisles are crammed with authentic Italian delicacies, and they have never steered me wrong. First come the dry goods. Every conceivable type of pasta, from squid-ink linguinie to whole-wheat penne and tiny nests of angel hair. House-jarred sauce, flavored with everything from olives to hot pepper. Grilled artichoke hearts in oil; myriads of different spice blends; canned sauces and fish (the tuna and sardine filets, packed in oil, are very high quality for the price; I like them as the centerpiece of a salade Nicoise.) Across from them is the cookie counter, where bins of freshly-baked macaroons and biscotti beckon. At the heart of the store is the deli counter. Here you can find all kinds of imported meats and cheeses, the makings of the best sandwiches imaginable -- and oh, they make those too. Smoked turkey and roasted red peppers smothered in melted provolone, oozing out of a crusty panini? Out of this world. Fresh mozzarella and proscuitto on foccacia with pesto? Be still, my heart! There are also cold salads and pickles, olive blends and more desserts (black-bottoms, brownies) from which to choose. Further back you'll find the fresh bread shelves, which are restocked several times a day with gorgeous, fragrant loaves. The olive bread is chock full of whole kalamatas; the proscuitto bread has sheets of proscuitto and chunks of asiago cheese baked right in. Around them are stacked cases and cases of inexpensive, quality wine -- even the $3 sale bottles are decent, especially for making punch or sangria, and the $10 bottles are quite good. In the very back are the refrigerated cases, where you can pick up muffaletta relish (that's chopped olives and peppers, for the uninitiated) and cold drinks and softball-sized orbs of smoked provolone cheese that have been cut from the rafters, where you can spot them aging. In the freezers you'll find frozen Italian entrees of the highest quality: uncooked ravioli, heat-and-serve ziti and eggplant Parmesan. Along the back wall are Italian coffees, sodas and syrups; the San Pellegrino orange and lemon sodas are my secret weapons for mixing cocktails, but since we're friends I don't mind letting you in on it. Behind the counter and in the aisles, the employees are fun-loving, knowledgeable and always ready with a sarcastic comeback. They'll tell you how to cook with pancetta and how to dance the foxtrot (only a slight exaggeration here.) Bonus: ask for a loyalty card, which they'll ring through every time you make a purchase. When you spend $200, you get a $10 credit -- not much, hey, when have the big-box grocery stores ever done that? Cautions: parking can be tricky, so be prepared to pull into the alleyway (don't bring your Benz) and / or circle the block. Try to come in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds of hungry lunchers. Bring shopping bags, or you may have to resourcefully redistribute bottles of wine to score an empty box. And come when you have plenty of time to wander and ask questions. This is how you'll make friends and feed your growing addiction to all things Italian! read more

The first time I went, I ordered a muffaletto sub. the second time i ordered the same thing but on focaccia. i love their focaccia bread. and their prosciutto bread. olive oil in bulk, a ton of different types of frozen ravioli to cook up back home (i got mini seafood ravioli), and a very friendly staff. What's most important for me was that despite the great taste, they charge VERY little for the quantity/quality of food they provide. the muffaletto, priced at $5.69, lasts me more than one meal, ~1.5. i need to find another place like this when i move to pennsylvania. read more

When I say Trinacria is a gem, it is a huge understatement. I had no clue this tiny Italian market/deli existed until a friend who caters gave me a tip. For all of your Italian specialty food needs, this is your place. My most favorite item at Trinacria is the prosciutto bread, a ring of fresh bread with cheese and prosciutto baked in the center. I would highly recommend taking the extra step to ask for this bread raw or half-baked, and then baking it yourself (they will tell you for how long/what oven temperature). It is SUBLIME when it's fresh from the oven. All of the deli sandwiches are fantastic, I couldn't even begin to tell you where to begin there. You really can't go wrong. Although I would highly recommend the cannolis! You can also buy the cannoli shells and filling to make your own. The wine selection is also extensive, and I think the prices are very good. This small market tends to get very crowded during lunch hours during the week, so I cannot even imagine what the weekends are like. Plan accordingly, it's well worth the effort. read more

Pick up great Italian meats and cheeses and desserts here. Decent selection, good service, good prices. Sandwiches to go are in generous portions and inexpensive. They sell frozen entrees here also as well as heat-n-eat garlic bread...never bought those but have seen lots of people put them in their basket, must be good. If you feel nostalgic for old-fashioned delis and sandwich places, Trinacria will put you over the moon. If you want Whole Foods-y ambiance, city chic, and young peppy deli servers, this is not your place. Minus one star for no place to sit (usually we pick up sandwiches and sit in St. Mary's Park). And the store can get crowded at lunch hour (you literally must squeeze past people to get by in the aisles on a busy day). read more

I adore Trinacria! First, go first thing in the morning so you can get a fresh loaf hot out of the oven. They have olive and cheese bread piping from the oven. The selection of premade lasagnas are amazing. Don't bother with the wine. It's usually on special and have never found it to be great. The cookies are delish and available by the pound. As are the large variety of olives. There is everything you need in the store to create an authentic Italian meal. Just try not to eat your way through the store :) read more
