Came here for a job celebration! Service was really nice, the waiters were cordial and polite. However they didn't bring water often enough..which was bothersome at times as the food was super spicy!! My friend and I got the tasting menu which had a variety of food and also sizeable portions which was good. However the taste of the food was generally not my personal style - for instance, at the beginning they brought out a variety of papads and chutneys. This was quite nice of them but tasted really strange to me. The tasting menu included an appetizer of Aloo Chaat (ratte potatoes, masala chickpea, tamarind, sweet yoghurt) which was maybe my favorite dish of the evening. It was really good! Then I tried the Duck Chutney Seekh (tomato tokku, Kashmiri chilli, shallot, pineapple chutney), which was also pretty good. For the main course I had Cashew & Pepper Chicken (roasted coconut & cashew nut, telicherry peppercorns) which again was really spicy but tasted not bad. It came with rice and naan. And the dessert Custard Apple Kulfi (falooda, basil seeds, gulab jamun, patissa crumble) had a variety of flavors and looked really cool and interesting, but wasn't my style taste-wise. To say I was disappointed with my meal at Trishna would be an understatement. Look, I am not typically one to write overly negative reviews but my experience at this supposed Michelin star restaurant left much to be desired. I will be fair - the food wasn't bad. It is a milder take on Indian food that is done in an agreeable fashion within a charming venue. However, what truly plunged my experience into the gutter was the service at this restaurant. I expect a certain calibre of service when a restaurant is at the price point that Trishna is and doubly so since this restaurant is supposed to be in possession of a Michelin star. Service was cold and dismissive. Arguably, no one was outright impolite; however, I daresay I have had better service at a McDonald's than at Trishna. The restaurant seemed to lack transparency at best and to be deceptive at worse. We visited on an early Tuesday evening (meaning it was not busy and we were not holding up any other tables) and opted for an A La Carte experience rather than their tasting menus. I felt like we were constantly being upsold - from the initial refusal to provide a food menu until drinks were ordered to the push for us to add on additional appetizers and sides (our server pushed for us to add a side to our main and we intended to follow up with only a naan but she quickly pushed for rice to be added on as well; they also added on a chutney which was not communicated to us as being an additional paid app rather than a complimentary dish), it was a very uncomfortable experience. The restaurant staff appeared displeased by our spending and was cold and dismissive to our questions and inquiries - I also noticed that we were the only table within the entire restaurant that was not provided with a bottle of water. We ended up asking for a bottle of tap water and then was shocked to find that they charged us 3£! for it without even mentioning it! Its hard for me to decide whether this cumulation of events was a result of incompetency that led to this lack of transparency or a sad and questionable attempt to bring our bill total up. In the end, we're disappointed to have spent close to 100£ experiencing some of the worst service we have ever encountered. read more

Very deserving of one Michelin star. Trishna is in a cute and quiet (safe-appearing) neighborhood a few blocks from the Baker Street station. I was too full for one of the set menus so I ordered a La carte items. Got the beet salad (I think it was called the Tawa salad) and I really really loved it--I would highly recommend especially if you like unique/exotic flavors in salads. Also had one of the paneers and it was fantastic as well. For dessert I had the rose-lychee kulfi with excellent flavors although it was slightly over frozen when served. Service was excellent! It was also very easy to book online--I booked 1-2 days in advance and was able to get a late evening dinner spot. read more

I booked this dinner over a week in advance as we were traveling from Canada to London and I wanted a special event for Diwali. The website stated they had a special tasting menu and they could accommodate gf and vegan. I always state when I make a reservation that 1 guest requires gf and vegan options. It was a bit of an ordeal when it was time to order. Our server (very friendly and attentive) said there was no vegan and gf tasting menu and I would have to order a la carte. When ordering a la carte the server came back after talking to the chef and said 2 items could not be done as there was no advance notice?!?! Over a week is not advance notice?? I ended up having aloo chat with no dairy. This was tasty, spicy and the potatoes were cooked well. Then I had lemon rice and the eggplant. The lemon rice was simple and bland...not lemony. The eggplant was very nice and well cooked. I had a bowl of dal on the side which I did not like. It tasted the way dal would taste when it burns on the bottom of a pot. My husband disagreed and said it tasted "roasted" so I did not bother to send it back (I did not eat it). My dessert was pineapple roasted on a tandoor with coconut ice cream and a pineapple gelatin (he said it was vegan). It was tasty. Hubby and son each had the meat tasting menu with alternate choices for each course. Son rated it 8/10 and hubby rated it 7/10. The reason for the 3 star rating has more to do with the hostess that gave an unfriendly vibe and their unwillingness to move us when requested as we were in the front section where it was freezing because the front door was constantly opened. They advertised live sitar music but from where we were seated we saw nothing and only heard the music (it was nice). It could have been a recording for all we could tell so there was no experience to it. There was a nice gift bag on all the tables with a candle, matches and chocolates. This was a nice touch. With so many restaurants in London offering great food, excellent service and friendly/accommodating service (we went to several on our trip) I would choose to spend my dollars elsewhere in future. read more

If Trishna was not a Michelin star restaurant, I would probably give it 4 stars at the minimum. However, I have to hold it to a high standard since it is a Michelin star restaurant. I had the tasting menu along with the wine tasting. Appetizer - 5 stars Mango chutney is amazing. Interesting choice of papadum but it felt some of this was more for shock value instead if enhancing the flavor. Others were good as well but it did not suit my flavor palette. I recommend trying each one to find which suits you. Wine Pairing- It was a champagne that complemented the starter and appetizer perfectly. Scallops - 2 stars Underwhelming. I didn't take many notes on this but I can't even remember the dish. Guinea Fowl - 5 stars An absolutely amazing dish. I am a fan of spicy food but this wasn't spicy. Instead, it was packed with flavor. Highly recommended Wine Pairing. Somewhat underwhelming. It should have been bolder since the fowl was so flavorful. Lambchop with radish salad - 3 stars Lambchop tasted amazing. One of the best I have had. The salad pair well with the lamb but it left much to be desired. To get the full effect, you needed to eat it almost immediately afterwards. It provides a very refreshing taste with slight kick from the horse radish. I felt the salad was very mediocre on it's owns. Wine pairing- best so far. It complemented the lambchop and salad perfectly. Lambchop curry - 3 stars Curry was ok. It was complemented the lentils very well. The produced effect was a good result. The issue is that neither of these dishes were great as a standalone. I also expected a complement to be better than a good result. The highlight was definitely the spinach side dish which tasted amazing. Probably one of the best vegetable dishes I have had. Oh, I hate spinach btw. Torte - 3 stars chocolate Torte with a chiki bottom. Most disappointing dessert. This is prob on of the best chocolate dessert I have had in my life. Why is it disappoint? The flavor of the chocolate torte was rich that complemented the Chika crust. The issue was that this crust made up 1/3 of the bottom of the torte. I am not sure why it didn't make up the entire bottom. The ice cream that complemented it was mild in flavor. There were hints of cardamom when it was ate by itself but the flavor was overpowered when combined with the torte. Wine Pairing - It was well paired. The wine was sweeter which complemented the dessert well. I was pretty disappointed overall. I traveled to Europe on a solo trip and I had one of the best culinary experiences of my life in Portugal. I looked up this restaurant because I heard it was on par with Gymkhana and there no reservations available during my trip. Trishna does offer one of two choices for each entre. It could be the other choice tasted better but I expected more from a restaurant that has a Michelin star. read more

Wow this was perhaps the best Indian food I've ever had. I suggest you opt for the Tasting Menu which offers both a vegetarian and meat/poultry based. I went with the vegetarian menu and thoroughly enjoyed every dish presented. I paired my selection with a nice carafe of Riesling which really brought out the flavors even more. Maybe I should preface this post by saying I am Indian (Punjabi), grew up eating Indian food in Northern California, have eaten Indian food in India and overall love Indian food. This place was okay. The only things I enjoyed were their chutneys which I could use to add flavor/spice to the other dishes, the aloo chaat with aforementioned chutney, coconut & corn tikka with chutney, tandoori lamb chops and Dorset brown crab had good flavor. Trishna was my first taste of Michelin-starred Indian dining. I opted for the 2-dish lunch course worth £20, coincidentally also making it one of the cheapest stars ever. I would have loved to grant it a perfect score, but I felt somewhat tricked into paying extra. After I finished both the appetizer and main course, the server presented me with the dessert menu. I thought his wording was very misleading when he asked, "So which of these would you like to order?" That led me to incorrectly assume that dessert was already included. I would have preferred if he said something more along the lines of "Would you be interested in dessert as well?" I ended up paying £6 more, for a total of £26. Refined Indian food, but the flawed staff and manager did not accommodate for the best experience. Indian Accent restaurant in London feels much more special than coming to Trishna. I would expect that Michelin gives Indian Accent a star also (newly opened). The courses have high-quality ingredients, but the recipes are too spicy for my taste (& I eat Indian food regularly). I was told they would make the recipes mild, but they were hot, hot, hot. Overall the courses were good, except for the softshell crab, which was too salty, and the crab curry, which was so spicy you couldn't taste the flavor. The saag with corn, and the desert, rice pudding with caramelized figs stood out. The service is the weakest link at this restaurant. The server interrupted the middle of the meal by making my table literally get up so he could move the table to a different spot (it was unnecessary). At the end of the meal, someone asked the manager if he could call a taxi (since the restaurant is not on a main street), where he rudely muttered "I'm not a concierge". He could have been nicer, even if he didn't want to make a phone call. Even though the food is refined, I would still recommend the also refined Indian Accent over Trisha. read more

This is an Indian experience of a very different kind. In fact, usually I associate Indian food with a very cheap interior with a big hint of greasy-spoon. (Which is not a bad thing...) Trishna is different...very different. It's the deluxe version of Indian cuisine and as my Indian host told us, this is also a place where the Indian upper class would feel quite comfortable. Foodwise, Trishna offers a selection of dishes that I've not had at other Indian restaurants before - such as quail in a very spicy rub, and a crab dish that kind of resembles a traditional Western tuna salad, but with Indian spices - both of which were delicious. The service was quite high end, with the waiters being almost too stiff and too unapproachable to my liking. (For instance, when I was missing a fork, it got delivered on a plate laid out on a white napkin.) Interior-design-wise I felt very comfortable here at Trishna: muted and earthy colours dominated, parkett floors made it all very homey and big tables for large groups or communal seatings assured that you're having a swell time! read more

Romantic din spot, for sure. Classy spot without being douchey. Not full of themselves like Veeraswamy. I started with the Regent's Grand: vodka, crushed raspberry, puréed peach, and guava. Tasty and original, but next time I'll stick to wine (I think it would've paired better with my meal). To start, I ordered the aloo papdi chat: potato, masala, chickpea, yogurt. Damn, so good. For my entree I had the palak paneer-good, but not as good as the one I had at Roti Chai in the dining area (downstairs) a couple of nights ago. I shared the lemon rice with my husband. Rico:)! The bread selection was solid, with the coconut naan as the standout. I've never had anything like it. Mind blown. I just added that to my last meal on earth list. Great food, excellent location - HOWEVER, this restaurant engages in business practices that in 2019, are shameful, irresponsible and reflective of a mindset that can only be deemed to be classist or racist. When the restaurant is empty, they want you to wait an hour for a table, when you try to make a reservation, they are not accepting reservations, when they "do you a favor" and allow you the privilege of paying for a dinner at their fancy restaurant, they warn you ahead of time you cannot stay at the table for longer than 1 hour? Visiting from the US, I have tolerated the nonsense i have witnessed to appease my hosts who always enjoy dining here - today, i said enough is enough, the restaurant was empty, it is a bank holiday weekend, so unlikely to be busy, called ahead for reservations- they said "we don't accept reservations on Sundays", so we went and upon arrival, the gentleman at the front looked for EVERY reason why we could not be seated, and then finally resolved to saying he would need the table back by 730pm - mind you, it was 6pm, we had not even ordered yet, or been seated and the restaurant is letting us know that they will take our money and show us the door. Of course, how dare I question this policy? The Manager was summoned and basically poured fuel to the fire, as in his most condescending voice, told me that is the way it is, after all, they are Michelin rated and based on my appearance, how can i expect Michelin service? Excellent restaurant. Superb service, great and diverse amount of wine (including a fantastic red wine from India - who knew?!), and anything lamb is a yes. We did the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing and it was amazing. The restaurant can get super loud even during the week, but it is London so that should be expected. There is lots of space to walk around and doesn't feel super crowded which is nice. I would definitely recommend going here. It's worth the price and well deserving of its Michelin star. read more

Amazing food, beautiful ambience, excellent service. Totally accommodated all our family's needs in London. We were traveling from the USA and normally you need a reservation in advance but they allowed us to use their private room for no extra charge. Our hotel concierges got us in. The food is simply the most amazing, unique flavors I have ever tasted -- that is saying a lot considering our family has been eating Indian food all our life. We had the lamb chops, lamb, chicken, and fish curry, rice, and naan. The star of the night has to be their Madhya Pradesh cocktail. If I could have purchased 2 bottles to take come I would have!! It is so light refreshing with eucalyptus & gin, yet definitely boozy. Lots of beers. The customer service & servers were very attentive & kind. American Yelp friends argue that London is weaker in most areas of cuisine compared to the USA but one genre of cuisine which is indisputably better in London is Indian food, as evidenced by 4 Indian restaurants in London being awarded a Michelin star this year I am very fortunate to be friends with Trithankar D, who is an expert in Indian cuisine. He took me and sister to Trishna for our first taste of Michelin starred Indian dining We had the 7 course tasting menu as it's so unusual to see a tasting menu at an Indian restaurant. The fine dining ambiance extended to an extensive wine and alcoholic beverage menu. I was very pleased to see that there were also non alcoholic cocktails and I enjoyed my fruit punch The popoddams came in funny square shapes but were tasty 1. Potato chaat Usually sold as a street snack food in India, there was a lovely amalgamation of sweet, sour and hot flavours with crunchy bits for texture. Very moorish 2. Chargrilled wild tiger prawns Huge prawns had been cut in half and expertly grilled to perfection with subtle but distinctive indian spices. This is the watchword of this restaurant - the flavours are unmistakably Indian but it's not in your face 3. Seabass tikka with dill raita Once again, top class ingredient cooked delightfully with more savoury flavours this time 4. Lamb chop Juicy succulence at its best with tikka flavouring 5. Duck seekh kebab with spiced pineapple chutney My first duck kebab. Now I want to know what I can't get this amazing kebab at my local curry house. Yum! 6. We had a choice of main course and opted to share the lamb curry and Dorset brown crab curries. The lamb was OK but the star of the whole meal was the crab curry. Once again, this was my first crab curry and the white meat had so much punch yet retaining sweetness in the butter sauce. It very much pains me to give Trishna an average rating because their food is quite tasty. Their service is SO TERRIBLE, however, that I have to give this place just 3 stars. Ambiance is great. Restaurant is pretty in an understated way. It was about 1/2 full at lunch today. Service is a huge problem here. Not sure if the gentleman in the suit is the owner or manager but he was utterly unfriendly and unhelpful. I felt like I was inconveniencing him by asking questions about the menu. And yet he was super friendly and patient with another couple who arrived after us. Not sure how we rubbed him the wrong way? Our waiter was nice enough but a bit difficult to understand (English wasn't his first language). I chalk his lack of attention up to the fact he was the only waiter working the entire restaurant. We had to constantly flag him down for water, the check, etc. Food is great, as I mentioned above: -- Aloo Chat is delicious. Loved the presentation in the potato basket. Definitely order this. -- Mattar Hing Ki Tikki was very good but spicy. Again, presentation was fantastic. -- Tandoori lamb chops were inedible due to the unbelievable spice level and fattiness. The owner / manager gave us a hard time about sending this back but after going back and forth he finally took it off the bill. The whole conversation was awkward. -- Hyderbadi dal was good. Not the best dal we've had but good. -- Basmati rice was nothing special and a bit strange in texture. I wish we'd ordered the lemon rice. -- Saag Aloo was very good. Potatoes were perfectly cooked and the spinach was fresh. -- Bread basket was good. The naan and roti were excellent, the kulcha not so good. Overall I am disappointed in this restaurant. A Michelin-starred restaurant for a casual lunch? Why not? With a lunchtime menu of two courses for £20, Trishna isn't the cheapest place to eat in Marylebone but it looked worth trying out. I ordered the quail, seafood pilau, bread and potato fry. The starter was small, but well-flavoured and absolutely delicious. It had a kick that kept building afterwards, with my mouth eventually on fire, but it was worth it. I do have a low tolerance to heat though, I'm not sure how vindaloo fiends would find it. The main was enormous. I'm not sure how much seafood was actually in my pilau, but it was still tasty. The side of potato fry was the star. Could happily have eaten it as a main. Onto the gripes... The waiter insisted on explaining what our mains were despite my colleague's attempts to get his attention and explain he had brought her the wrong dish. He immediately doubled checked his pad rather than taking her word at face value and whilst he apologised, he didn't do anything to compensate her for having her main arrive late. Nothing off the bill, no special extra drink or side - in a good restaurant, this happens as standard. Despite a lunch booking, a near empty restaurant and only two courses, it took over 90 minutes to turn our table. I can't imagine how long it takes when the restaurant is actually busy. Good food, average service, expensive. I wouldn't have pegged this as a Michelin star restaurant - if you want a Michelin Indian experience, try Benares. This was a fun place to start my London trip. Came here on a Friday night with two foodies who far outrank me in terms of Michelin stars experienced and I left the ordering to them. I was a bit worried when I read a few reviews and it mentioned dressy. My friends and I were more on the casual end, and it was fine (sweaters, jeans, shirt dress). We started with cocktails - I got a Chili Royale (their twist on a Kir Royale, a champagne cocktail), complete with a hot pepper on the side! My friends both go the Kumquat Caipirinha (good enough to order a second round!). I liked the small details of the cloth napkins served under the drinks to catch the condensation (vs. a paper napkin that turns into pieces and gets stuck on the table). For dinner we had (maybe too many) dishes for three, but most was finished by the end. We started with papadums with chutney (tomato with shrimp and a mango), both tasty. Next came out Kolhapuri Jheenga (shrimp with a tangy sauce for dipping), Quail Pepper Fry (thankfully boneless), and (the most amazing) Aloo Chat. The Aloo Chat came in a vermicelli bowl and had a lovely yogurt sauce on top - I'm getting hungry remembering it! Next round we had the duke keema naan, lamb masala, lemon rice and nilgiri paneer. I had never had filled naan before, and this one left me lacking - but my experience has only been with plain and garlic, maybe I was looking for more flavor or maybe I just don't know good naan - I'd try this again just to be sure. The lamb masala and lemon rice were very tasty, but for me a bit standard (nothing against that!). I'm not a fan of paneer, but both my friends enjoyed it. A very tasty dinner with friends!
