Found this gem on Yelp and had to give it a try. We were very pleased. The atmosphere is old school Italian vibe and very cozy. The staff was amazing, our waitress was very attentive, never letting our drinks get empty and great food recommendations. 3 of us had the lasagna and 1 had the bolognese. Trombino's is in a super unassuming building right off of Academy. Inside has a dark ambiance with an open bar area, and a packed dinning room. I had made a reservation a few days prior and it was almost ready on arrival. They gave the choice to wait for a booth or grab a table right away so we took the table. I wish we had waited for the booth! The seating situation was a bit cramped, passerby's kept running into my chair so I changed seats- then they kept running into the table lol. Our server was nice, it was just so crowded and busy. The food was great- Christian loved the chicken parm- my lobster ravioli was lack luster, there were more bell peppers in it than anything. We recently tried Trambinos for the first time for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. The food itself was good, and we ordered the calamari as an appetizer. Unfortunately, my boyfriend bit into a metal piece that was in the calamari. We let our server Nadine know, and she picked it up, said "oh sorry," and walked away. There was no manager follow-up or additional apology, which was disappointing considering it was a safety issue. We also felt like the tone toward us was a little different compared to other tables. It was our anniversary. We had 7:00pm reservations and arrived a little early. They seated us in the long thin room adjacent to the dining room in the far back. It was dim and isolated. We waited about 15 minutes before we were approached. She seemed surprised to see us, like no one had told her someone had been seated there. We ordered wine and started reading the menu she brought us. The waitress came back about 15 minutes later. My wife decided on the Chicken Marsala and I ordered the Chicken Parmigiano. You should note that it is about 7:30pm at this point. After another 15 minutes we got our salads. Our waitress was a short, heavy woman with little reach, which may explain why she TOSSED the salad plate at me from the other side of the table! If you are keeping track it is now about 7:45pm. The restaurant closes at 9:00pm, but staff is clearing the tables in our area of the restaurant. By clearing I mean removing the silver wear and salt and pepper. Our area is being shut down. In the main dining room there is light and laughter and patrons eating. We are alone, in the dim corner...forgotten. At 8:15pm I ask one of the staff cleaning our area (sweeping the floor) to find our waitress. She arrives and, once again, seems surprised at our presence. With a brief apology she rushes off to the kitchen to see about our food. A few minutes later she brings our entrees out - yes, I have the Chicken Parm tossed at me from the other side of the table - and we dig in. One problem, mine is really, really hot...not temperature...spicy. We had eaten at Trombino's before. It had been a go to for special occasions - Mother's Day, birthdays, anniversaries - and I always got the Chicken Parmigiano. This was not that. It was eye watering, sinus clearing, spicy. Inedible. I waited for the waitress to come back to see if everything was okay...and waited...and waited. At about 8:45pm she comes by to see if we wanted dessert. I pointed at my full plate and expressed my dissatisfaction with the dish. She immediately got attitude. The kitchen was closed and there was nothing she could do. I asked to speak with the manager. She huffed off. About 5 minutes later she is back saying that they are taking the Chicken Parm off our bill. Damn nice of them. That was our last dinner at Trombino's. A few postscripts... As were were leaving, at just a few minutes before 9:00pm, we see them bringing food out to some guests in the main dining area. I guess the kitchen was still open for them. I checked out the menu online after we got home and I think I figured it out. Either they ran out of regular tomato sauce and substituted, or they made a mistake, but I am pretty sure I got the Fra Diavolo sauce from the Seafood Fra Diavolo instead of the regular tomato sauce. read more

We cleaned our plates ! she loveddd all of her lasagna ! i took half home due to how full i got and immediately ate all of it the next day which was still great! even after the fridge ! 4.5 stars Came here on Thursday night... Staff was friendly and food came out (hot and) quickly. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. I got the lobster ravioli ($22) and my friend got the lasagna for $17.95. The creaminess of the ravioli sauce offset some of the flavor of the peppers. Both portions were large enough that we had leftovers to take home and the bread that came with the meals was good. A great recommendation by my aunt (as this is one of her favorite places). We had our Lions 'Club banquet at Trombino's on the 7th of January. I want to compliment Josh and his Staff on an absolutely fantastic experience. The servers were so attentive, the food was delicious and the time from order to table was remarkable. They served 32 plates with lightening speed. Our group all expressed how enjoyable everything was. A BIG Thank You!!! Won't hesitate to go back for a delicious meal or have our next banquet at Trombino's again. The chicken picada, wild shrimp scampi, Alfredo linguine, Ceasar salad, chicken parmesan and real spumoni ice cream was over the top. Everyone complained of eating too much with the generous portions served. If You haven't been there, time to try and if you haven't gone back , it's time to try again. I think this is one of the best Italian restaurants in Albuquerque. Sadly the service has decreased over the years. Each time I have gone in the last two years I have been disappointed by the service. It is slow and forgetful. I have gone for anniversaries and birthdays and neither are acknowledged by the staff when I include it in my reservation. We had a pasta, salad, dessert and drinks. Food was pretty good. My first visit to this very popular restaurant occurred on January 8, 2025. I was dining with a friend. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and professional. The decor is pleasing, yet has a relaxed feel. The menu has traditional Italian food choices. I did not peruse the wine list, but I I'm sure there are many good choices. My entrée was grilled Italian sausage with peppers. My dining companion had penne pasta with tomato sauce and a meatball. The Italian sausage was particularly tasty, I ordered the spicy. I have been to Trombino's Bistro Italiano before, and during my first experience, everything was pleasant. We had an attentive and engaging server, and while the food was good, it wasn't anything particularly spectacular. Unfortunately, our most recent visit on a Tuesday for my little sister's high school graduation was very disappointing. We had a party of 11 -- the same group from our first visit --and the experience was completely different. As our group was discussing food and drink options, our server, Kelly, came across as rude, judgmental, and generally unpleasant throughout the evening. The most concerning part of the experience involved a serious mistake with a drink order. One member of our party specifically ordered a mocktail (a non-alcoholic drink) because he is avoiding alcohol due to health concerns. Despite clearly clarifying that he wanted a non-alcoholic beverage, the server brought him a cocktail containing alcohol. He did not realize the mistake until after drinking it and beginning to feel ill. This was an extremely serious situation that could have had significant health consequences. What made the experience even more upsetting was that there was no apology, concern, or attempt to rectify the mistake after it was brought to the server's attention. To make matters worse, our dinner totaled approximately $500, and for that price we expected a higher level of professionalism, attentiveness, and care. We were also charged for a dessert that we didn't order but was brought out for the purpose of the celebration, and we weren't able to get it taken off the bill. The $500 does include the tip that was left of about $70. Also to note, we had made a reservation for both events and the restaurant had room for us, and there wasn't a lot of customers at the restaurant, so our server was just serving our table. Truly disappointed in this place!!! My group ordered at 6:30pm and food did not come until 8pm! It was really the service and server that gave the 1 star rating. What we ordered for context: -House Tossed Salad (Romaine, Green Leaf, Spring mix, onions, tomato, cucumber, olives) -Farfelle Marinara Calabrese with Chicken About experience: -Server (Preston) was truly incompetent. Asked for things needed to enjoy the meal but either never got them or took forever. A great example is that I asked them why the salad was not physically tossed hence the name/a salad in general. He did not go above and beyond to ask us if he should take it back and have it made properly. Also, when asked how we serve said said, he did not have an answer. I had to ask for utensils and all he brought back was soup spoons; not helpful to toss our own salad.... -As we found out, the server was waiting for everything to be made before bringing it out, which made everything come out cold. My pasta CAME OUT COLD! Ultimately, server should have brought over a manager but I guess that is not how the mind set is here in ABQ compared to the Los Angeles principles of service. We went to Trombinos for New Year's Day dinner. I had eggplant parmigiana and it was fabulous. I asked for the eggplant to be crispy and they made it exactly like I wanted. The marinara sauce was delicious and the portion was very big. My family had trout, manicotti, and we ended with desserts. Complete letdown and disappointment. Initial service was acceptable. Took order. Delivered food in timely manor. Our adult daughters ordered Shrimp Scampi, Fettuccini Alfredo, wife had the NY Strip and I ordered the Chicken Marsala. Wife asked for her steak to be "well done/zero pink". All the food showed up at the same time. Immediately noticed wife's steak was far from well done. I actually reached over and cut into it and it was rediculously rare - if not cooked for 2 minutes each side and served. Asked them to take it back and take the time to do it right. Literally 4 minutes later the manager/shift lead/a new to us guy returned with what appeared to be a severely burned and externally seared piece of meat. He said "sorry about this, you'll love it this time" and literally turned to and walked away. Didn't even hang out to see or ask if it was alright. Strange as every place I've ever eaten at usually makes sure everything is ok if there is a complaint. At this point it was far more well done and had been cooked over way high heat to give it the appearance of an overcooked meat. Cut into it and it was still oozing with red. Wild. Called our waitress over and she had him come over and he offered to take it back again. Declined as at this point as it felt that they'd just rushed it to try and do something and the meat was already ruined. The manager suggested that it was the lighting and ambiance of the table but it was clearly his way of shrugging making it right. Understandably this is not a steakhouse so shame on us for assuming they had the mental capacity and experience to grill a steak to desired outcome. The unfortunate part of our experience tonight was that at no time did anybody, including the manager offer to get her something else instead. She literally sat for 10 minutes and shared food with our oldest daughter. He did back a final time and gave us a $35 gift card that we could use "next time." We were in a group of a few others and unfortunately somebody in our group paid the entire tab before I had a chance to find the manager. I didn't even get the chance to talk to him about MY plate in which the chicken was also severely undercooked and could be cut with a spoon. It was disappointing. I understand when restaurants might be understaffed, short handed or in a hurry but this isn't a McDonalds or Jack in the Box. If they want to stay in business or at least offer items on their menu, they should be proud of what they are pushing out the door and take the time to do it right. This was my first time at Trombino's which is so surprising because I love Italian food and I was very impressed. The spaghetti and meatballs was delicious, I chose capellini pasta with the marinara, I suggest adding red peppers if you like it spicy! My wife and I came by the restaurant later than usual around 8:20, as my wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and had plans prior. We wanted to stop by on our way home for a night cap at the restaurant that we had our first date at. Knowing that we were coming in later we checked the hours and all signs pointed to them being open until 9. To our displeasure the door was locked when we arrived. The hours were posted right next to the front door and stated that they were open until 9pm. We called the restaurant hoping to speak to the manager and see if there was any way that we could come in and have an apple dessert and a glass of wine just like we did on our first date. When the employee answered the phone we asked if we could speak the the manager they told us that he had left for the evening. It doesn't seem right to have the hours posted on the internet as well as at the building and not follow them. We opted for Scapa's across the street and had their apple tort. read more

Ehhh. I wasn't impressed. I was looking forward to trying Trombinos for the first time. I doubt I'll go back. The starter is typically one of my favorites- fried mushrooms and fried zucchini. The mushrooms were good, I enjoyed them- good flavor, still juicy. I don't know why on earth they do shaved zucchini for a fried zucchini, but it had the appearance of French fries and only tastes of grease. The ranch was the only saving grace. I tried something new for the seafood noodle, but the waiter assured me it was spicy which is why I ordered it. I can honestly say, it not only wasn't spicy- it had zero flavor, it was so watery. Apparently the pork chop was amazing, as my dinner companion loved it. Super moist and my friend would be willing to go again only for the pork chop (also a pass on the fried zucchini for him). My biggest complaint honestly is that there is not enough seafood pasta option that doesn't contain tomatoes. I love Frutti de Mare but it has way too much tomato in it, I've asked for them to go lighter in the past, but still too much for my health issue. Walked in on a Tuesday evening, parking lot full, but from what it appeared, there was a full bar for happy hour! So no wait time for a table! We were sat immediately by friendly reception and our server was attentive from the start. We took advantage of the last minute happy hour drinks of a glass of Pinot Grigio, and a draft Modelo, and enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip for a starter. It was delicious, and lighter, allowing the freshness of the spinach and tomato to shine. For entree, I chose chicken Marsala and hubby got spaghetti with meat sauce and a side of hot Italian sausage. Lovely sauces on both dishes! Hubby loved the sausage, with pronounced fennel and spices, and my sauce hit with just the right Marsala sweetness. This was a lovely and classy experience for our family. The environment definitely depicts the Italian vibe and the atmosphere just wraps you and makes you feel you are actually in Italy. We decided to do an early Mother's Day celebration tonight because restaurants are crazy busy on Mother's Day. We were seated at our own table in the bar. Our waiter was Wyatt. He took our order for ice teas and the zucchini/mushroom appetizer platter with ranch dressing. The zucchini was shredded so thinly small, all you tasted was the breadcrumb coating and the cooking grease. He had brought a plate with olive oil, but forgot to bring us the bread to dip it in. 20 minutes later when this appetizer came out with a different server, we asked him about the bread, and he got it for us. We wanted their minestrone soup, but they were all out of all 3 of their soup choices today. I orders the Caprese salad and my daughter got the side order of meatballs. Another 20 minutes later, they both arrived to our table. Literally 30 seconds later, that other waiter brought us our entrees of lasagna and lobster ravioli. I had just cut into my first slice of tomato and mozzarella! Bad timing! I flagged down the lady manager and told her that the appetizer and entrees arrived essentially at the same time. The salad and the meatballs were boxed then to go. We could not enjoy them separately, without rushing through our meal. The lady manager offered to compensate us with a dessert. They were out of the cheesecake, the Tiramisu, and the other top dessert. We got the chocolate mousse to go. It was a wad of chocolate mousse mashed into a plastic tub. No whipped cream or chocolate drizzle, just a pile of chocolate sludge. Our back up waiter did get us drink refills. All in all the lobster ravioli which was served in a bowl with a soup spoon, and the big lasagna square were delicious. The service definitely lacked. Despite a fairly unimpressive store front, Trombinos is definitely worth a visit. I do like their storefront sign (see photo). We were seated in a booth. I highly recommend asking for this, when you make a reservation (also recommended), if you want a more intimate setting and more privacy. For dinner we each ordered the house salad with house dressing. It was crisp, fresh and generous. We could have easily have split one. My husband had cheese ravioli and a side of meatballs. He said they were average, he still wants to come back and try chicken parmigiana. I had chicken piccata, one of my favorite Italian dishes, with capers (you have to ask). I also opted for a side of green beans. Both were excellent, the chicken was tender yet well cooked, sauce tangy and lemony! The green beans were beautiful and crisp. Spaghetti serving was BIG and excellently tender/crisp. I like my green beans a little more cooked, but they were fresh tasting! The main course was enough for two, I ate half and took the rest home. I typically never do that but did with this dinner, it was that good! As it was a birthday celebration for my husband, we had dessert. He had free ice cream and I had tiramisu. The tiramisu was excellent, the best I've had in the 505(575). Fairly close to my memory of my favorite in Lakewood, OH (just outside Cleveland). Definitely visiting again! If you've not tried it and you like Italian - make a reservation. HINT: according to the waitstaff, during COVID TIMES, go early (3-5pm), if you go after 5 be prepared for a long visit. We were then done and although he comped the salads that went uneaten, provided a bill with items we did not order or receive. He corrected it but charged us for a side of sauce he had suggested! Not too crowded at our arrival to Trombinos, but during departure tables were filling up. Came here as a birthday request with friends. Alexas was our attentive, friendly server. Thank you for bringing us HOT bread. Lemon Drop Martini was perfect and so was The Mule; both potent if you drank 2 of them. Ordered Chicken Piccata, Lobster Ravioli, fried mushrooms which were all scrumptious. Complimentary Birthday dessert was a beautifully drizzled Spumoni, 3 scoops.
