Decided to give this place a shot,since I've seen it advertised by others online. My wife and I decided to go for lunch. We asked for a table of 2, and they told us we had one person in front of us. There were several tables available, but we still waiting 20+ minutes. I can only assume it was because the tables sat more than 2 people, so they wanted to save them for parties of 3 or more. After they finally sat us down, they gave us one menu asked if we wanted something to drink, and then proceeded to be ignored for 20+ min again. There was no hello, no welcome, no explanation of the carts or anything. Had to call the attention of one of the employees to please have a server assist us. When we finally got to order, we got honey chicken, which was actually really good. I was impressed. We also got a Lo mein, which did not taste like the typical dish in use to here in Miami. It was still good though. There were employees carrying around food in carts, which you can select premade plates from. We had two plates from there, but had no idea what pricing was like because no one had explained anything to us. Still, we enjoyed some soup dumplings, and spring rolls from it. One observation: at the end of it all, the tables that were open from the beginning we're still open, so we waited all that time for nothing. While the food from the place was decent. I had heard so many great things about this place, so I was really excited to finally give it a try. The restaurant was very busy, and we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated, which wasn't bad at all. The atmosphere immediately gave off authentic Chinese vibes, from the aquarium at the entrance to the beautiful decor throughout the restaurant. It really added to the experience. Unfortunately, the service was not the best. Our server escorted us to our table but did not greet us, welcome us, or ask if it was our first visit, which felt a bit impersonal. Since it was our first time, we weren't sure how the ordering process worked and waited for someone to come take our order. Eventually, we had to ask one of the employees pushing a food cart to get our server's attention. Aside from the service, the food was very good and had authentic Chinese flavors. Always love my dim sum time. It's fast and satisfying. We do miss the pineapple custard buns after all the savory plates. Some of our typical dishes are the charsu pork bao buns, shrimp and pork su mai, shrimp and scallop dumplings, pork ginger dumpling, parsley shrimp, bok choy, orange peel beef, shrimp balls and rolls, & stuffed crab claw ( not always available). I've been searching for dim sum place in Miami and I finally found a fantastic place that offers it. I came last week to try it and it was amazing. We tried the shrimp dumpling, scallop and shrimp dumpling, sticky rice, fry shrimp wonton, steam roast pork bun, shrimp and wonton soup and vegetable spring rolls. Everything was delicious. Between the dumplings, I liked the shrimp dumpling better. The sticky rice was good but I don't think I would order it again. My favorite dish was definitely the steam roast pork bun. The portions were a bit smaller than what I'm used to for a Chinese restaurant. The decor was excellent. I don't typically pay much attention to that when going out to eat to be honest but it stood out here. I wasn't a huge fan of the elevator music but it didn't take away from the experience either. So glad to see that Tropical Chinese is just as amazing as always. It's been a few years since I've made it down this far south, and they're still serving up some of the best Chinese food in South Florida. The food was simply delicious. We got a bunch of old favorites like the mapo tofu and salt and pepper tofu, along with an assortment of dim sum (from the kitchen instead of the carts, since it was dinner service). We also tried a few new items, including the Singapore noodles and the chicken with fresh vegetables. Both were outstanding. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong here. Every dish is so flavorful and unique, and all elements are cooked perfectly. The food was good. I loved the dumplings and potstickers! Their chili oil is definitely hot in the best way possible. I wasn't a fan of their chicken lo mein but I think that's because I wasn't used to it compared to lo mein I've had before. Next time I'd try it without the added vegetables. I hadn't been to Tropical Chinese in years and decided to take my son for a nice lunch. We arrived at noon on a Saturday (he had to be at work by 3 PM), and the restaurant was already filling up quickly. The staff was very courteous, and everything was clean and well maintained. The dim sum was just as good as I remembered--an impressive selection, with carts rolling out as soon as we sat down. The dumplings were delicious, and the BBQ pork buns were a standout. This place truly is a not so hidden gem in a random strip mall, because if you grew up in Miami like I did, Tropical Chinese, is very well-known for Chinese food that sparkles. From the moment you walk in the decor makes you forget that you're in Westchester. It's cute and modern with the colorful blossom lanterns, and the fun modern wallpaper. Went with an open mind to try dim sum. Which we had no idea what was happening and were never asked if it was our first time. We even asked a waitress to explain how it works, she turned around and was never to be seen again. Eventually we figured it out. Carts come, you say yay or nay to taking what is on the carts (which quickly adds up), it's tallied on the sheet and then you feast. He seemed to be very polite with other tables but for some reason wasn't very kind or attentive to us. We flagged him down with a question about the duck and he answered very annoyed. First Dim Sum experience and I honestly can't believe I've never heard of this place before. A Miami staple for 38 years, and clearly it's been around this long for a reason! I love me some good Chinese, but let's be real, Miami lacks options when it comes to quality, great tasting Chinese cuisine. Miami is living up to its reputation of unremarkable Chinese food, and unfortunately Tropical Chinese Restaurant is part of it for me. This is a very busy restaurant so I was hopeful when I walked in, but unfortunately the food was lacking. It took a long time for us to get cutlery, plates, water, and to get our orders taken, which is understandable given the bustling crowds, but most of our food came out suspiciously fast and did not feel that fresh later in the evening. The prices were also astonishing, $20 for vegetables? But I guess that's Miami for you. First things that came to our table were the duck lettuce wrap and hot and sour soup. The lettuce wrap came with extra hoisin sauce but it was already quite salty so I was confused. There was also no discernible duck as the filling was finely and uniformly minced. Flavor was alright though. The hot and sour soup was confusing, I have never tasted so much five spice (?) in this soup. It also tasted like they used white vinegar or something similar instead of Chinese black vinegar, as the sourness was very sharp. Next, our dim sum, bok choy, and green beans arrived. The green beans were bland and needed more garlic. They were also mushy and not properly fried. The bok choy was just bok choy, maybe lightly seasoned with chicken boullion and salt. The chicken feet were tender but not too flavorful. The har gow wrappers were mushy instead of bouncy. The shrimp siu mai wrappers were good though, and had plump chunks of shrimp inside instead of only a paste. I wish that each table came with some chili oil or something, I was surprised to see there was none. The last thing to come out was yang chow fried rice. We got this because they were out of chow fun, and it definitely saved this trip. It came out a fair bit later than everything else and was definitely made to order. The rice was not too greasy and there was a good amount of shrimp and pork. Very flavorful and satisfying! Overall I would not return to Tropical Chinese Restaurant. I think they are doing a perfectly good job serving what their audience wants to eat, as evidenced by their busy busy restaurant. But as someone who is 1. Literally Chinese and 2.
