Swung by Tropical Smoothie on a whim--because hey, a little island escape in a cup never hurt anyone, right? Ordered the Island Green and its cleaner cousin, Detox Island Green. Let's just say... only one of us left refreshed. Island Green? Smooth, consistent, familiar--like the old reliable in a tropical friend group. But Detox Island Green? That one came in hot with a whole lotta ginger and not much else. Bland overall, unless you count ginger as a flavor explosion. I don't. Not like this. Tried a wrap too, but it didn't help. Chicken was soft in that did-they-steam-this? kind of way, and the filling was stingy. Like someone made it while daydreaming about being somewhere else. Service? A smile would've gone a long way. The vibe felt more like a waiting room than a getaway. Still tipped, but mostly out of habit. Customer service was great and the smoothies are delicious. My favorite is the kiwi quencher. I love that they have a variety of smoothies and flavors to choose from, and other delicious options. I'm not sure why, but every time I get a smoothie from this location, it is thick and still has chunks of ice in it. I don't know if they need their blenders need to be serviced or just get new ones. I go to the Gurnee and Vernon Hills one as well and this are nice and smooth, easy to drink. They taste great at Mundelein, they are just hard to drink, so much we're going avoid this location now even though it's the closest to our house. I would think there would be some set of standardized timing on making these from corporate, so maybe it's the equipment. read more

I was so embarrassed one of the corporate guys George grabbed a side of Thai peanut sauce out of my hand because he said it was an extra 59 cents. I had ordered ahead and their in effective app doesn't offer " on side" as an option only ADD. I'm tired of crappy fast food places and the "health" places don't have drive tru's....so aside from the fact they have a drive thru, they have great smoothies! My daughters enjoy coming here after volleyball and basketball practice and have great affinity for the menu offerings and service in general. Unfortunately, yesterday's experience all but negated the positive prior experiences. My daugther specifically ordered a salad and smoothie at 1330 yesterday afternoon and waited 25 minutes for both. The female clerk seemed overwhelmed and very limited in that the plethora of waiting customers, about 8 of us, had no idea what was going on. While prior visits had the clerk articulating the name of the customer whose order was completed while said clerk placed the item on the "retrieval counter", such was not the case yesterday. Instead, the clerk was placing completed drink orders without indicating for whom, specifically, they were made and this caused multiple awaiting consumers to touch multiple orders to ascertain whether any given "one" belonged to the querying party. This could have all been positively addressed had the clerk simply asked each customer his/her name at order intake and subsequently annunciating that name/those names at order completion. Illinois' morbidly obese Governor, he with more comorbidities than I longings for Olga Kern, would be very chagrined by the paucity of CDC compliant precautions relative to the chain of custody of the foodstuffs I requested, and for which I paid in full, 25 minutes earlier. While this experience somewhat soured our affinity for this place, this malady could have been easily addressed as follows: 1) The clerk could have simply told each orderer that "we are very busy today and your order will take a bit longer than usually it would otherwise. I estimate that you'll have your deliverables in about 15 minutes. In the meantime, may I please have the name to attach to the order on completion? Please listen for your name, which I'll call when your order is complete". 2) The clerk should have made a point of stating "order 4329322 (the number on the receipt) is complete- Ferlin, your order is done". That simple step alone would have ended the utter confusion and frustration that the collective queing customers clearly, by the looks on their faces, caused. Although these seem common sensical to this writer, clearly their contemplation/implementation eluded the brain trust of Tropical Smoothie Cafe's Mundelein location's retail staff yesterday afternoon. Hopefully, next time, they get it right or other, more adept workers are on the clock if and when we return. read more

Ordered the Watermelon Mojito smoothie with no turbinado sugar. There was no flavor at all. Tasted like a water and ice smoothie - flavorless watermelon with no strawberry or mint taste at all. read more

The smoothies are very disappointing because they put ice in them which waters down the flavor. All you need is some frozen fruit and a bit of milk or almond milk. I wouldn't recommend. We tried the quesadillas and sweet potatoes and they were fine. read more

I love this place. Since they have opened I have been there every week sometimes more than once. Haven't done dinner yet, but have had breakfast and lunch- they have a discount for my company so I do lunch a lot the hummus wrap is so good. Their new smoothie hurricane is tasty too- but my favorite will always be the sunrise one. The staff seems really nice too they always welcome me. I like the feeling of being a "regular" read more

Went there today to give this place a try. Boy was I surprised. The place was in disarray in regards to processing orders. So I just ordered one drink, that was it. A group followed me and a couple. The group including the couple got their orders first which included drinks and sandwiches. I got tired waiting so I called the manager to get a refund for my one drink. Never again going to this place! The manager should be upfront with the staff processing and coordinating orders and not in the kitchen doing other things which could be handled by other staff members. I got 2 smoothies and and some food waited for 20 minutes and asked the person if that was are food they said yes we checked it was not are food so we told them they said they are still working on it. They give us are good still wrong and the person who took are order had a rude attitude and I know how it feels to work in a restaurant because I work in one too but please be mindful of the time and your attitude.
