I love Troya Mediterranean Kitchen on the hip Fillmore Street in San Francisco for its authentic and delicious cuisine. The Turkish brunch sampler for 2 ($60) is definitely something to share and write home about, especially if you're a fan of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. My favorite items from the sampler included the green olives with red seasoning sprinkled on top, fresh tomato/cucumber, tahini with sesame seeds and almost a creamy peanut butter dessert consistency, dried dates and walnuts (try dipping the date in the tahini at the end of your meal as a sweet treat), and both cheeses. Our server let us know that one cheese is a feta and the other is a harder, more-aged version, and that both included a combination of three types of milk - cow, goat, and sheep. This definitely made the cheese easier to digest, and I personally recommend putting the feta on the shakshuka. The Shakshuka was also good but felt like it could have been great if we had eaten this immediately because the eggs seem to continue cooking the longer you let it sit. I do wish that the lamb sausage either was mixed into the sauce so that the sauce absorbed the flavor, or that the lamb sausage was cooked for less time so that it was less crispy. It comes with slices of lamb but as of now these seem like they could be easily removed if you're vegetarian. If you order extra bread, heads up that it is an additional $10, but since they bring you an entire tray of different bread types it feels worth it. The Turkish coffee ($5) is worth trying at least once if you enjoy super strong tasting coffee, or if you're just an adventurous person. It also comes served in a cute cup and saucer with a little treat on the side. For those wanting a regular coffee ($3.50) with their brunch, not to fear because they have this as well. read more

Lived in the neighborhood many years but never tried this place. Been many times to La Mediterranee across the street for my Mediterranean food fix. They are similar, but La Mediterranee is better and has a greater variety of dishes. But Troy's did have two exceptional items. The Cheese Norek was a bit of a mid, excellent flaky pastry, but the cheese lacked flavor. On the up side the warm hummus with za'atar spiced lamb was fantastic. I could have eaten another bowl. I also had the chicken skewers which came with plenty of vegetables on the skewers, but the highlight was the spicy sauce on the rice. That was outstanding. I think is was underutilized as just on the rice, I'm thinking this should be a great combination with beef or lamb as well. Overall good, they just need stronger cheese. read more

Food: So glad we ordered the Turkish Breakfast for 2. Loved the honey & cheese (?) one, the yogurt berry granola one, the red paste one, and the different forms of pita were fresh and delicious - and refills are free! The sesame paste one had a dry sticky feeling on the tongue but it's probably not what I am used to. We also ordered the shashuka which was savory. These two orders were for a group of 3, and that was enough for us. We also ordered Turkish coffee (which came with a mini slice of cake) and Turkish Tea. I asked for milk with the tea, but as a Chinese tea drinker, the Turkish Tea is a very mild black tea. The milk was not necessary at all. 4.75/5 Service: Nothing at all to complain about except that it was understaffed that day. However, the staff was still super friendly and were on top of everything. We came in on a Sunday at around 1:30 and were seated in 20 minutes so I definitely recommend making a reservation if you plan to go on the peak hours of the weekend. 5/5 Ambiance: Sunday had a live DJ, and his set fit the vibe of Troya very well. We made a reservation but wasn't completely full yet when we arrived. We were seated right away and order some wine to start. For food we started with the trio of dips and pita. The dips were all delish and liked the tzatziki and muhammara best. The muhamara had more texture of the nuts than I'm used to but was a good balance. The pita was warm, soft and good ratio of pita to all the dips. For mains we got the lamb shoulder and lamb skewers. The shoulder was my favorite and was so tender, flavorful, and juicy. The skewer was good as well but preferred the shoulder. It also felt like more meat with the shoulder as opposed to 5 pieces of lamb on the skewers in total. Troya is the real deal. Everything that we tried was exceptional. However, there are two dishes that stole the show. The braised lamb shoulder and the roasted cauliflower. Braised lamb shoulder: Tender, juicy and savory lamb perfectly accompanied by a fluffy bed of rice, fresh herbal spiced hummus, and crisp, toasted nuts. That combination is what dreams are made of. Roasted cauliflower: Texture was both crispy and soft. Flavors were lively and saporous. Also complimented with the same fresh, herbal spiced hummus. This is also a must-get dish. I'm gonna start with how beautiful the restaurant is inside. The decor is quite modern while having a bit of culture in them. Service is great. The staff were smiling while they talk to you. They're very pleasant. Food overall is great, but what I loved the most was their Turkish spiced fries and its dip. It's amazing! While the kebabs were good, I don't think it's worth the price. It didn't taste seasoned or marinated. For me, it tasted like skewered unseasoned meat with vegetables. It's good but I think I'll order something else next time. Had dinner here and it was overall meh. Because it's on Fillmore St, the food was overpriced which wouldn't be too much of a problem if the food was amazing. Unfortunately this wan't really the case. I was looking forward to having the manti (Turkish dumplings) because I enjoyed trying it in Turkey, but sadly it was super watery. The dumplings themselves were flavorful and cooked just the right amount, but they were drowning in liquid. Also, the food came out so quickly that it made us a little sus. After 2 years I came back to la Troya with my husband, his parents and a friend of us. I booked online, but my husband call to be sure the table was inside and it was. We ordered the regulars hummus to share, then everyone ordered the main: 3 Braised Lamb Shoulder, 1 baby lamb chops and 1 lamb skewers. The portion are not big, but everything was delicious. I shared with my husband the lamb shoulders and the skewers and both were more than delicious. The lamb was perfectly cooked and the taste was amazing. While in between work meetings, I grabbed a quick lunch at Troya on a Friday afternoon. It was...fine. I originally came because I saw the Manti Dumplings featured on Yelp - but unfortunately, they are not on the limited lunch menu. Instead, I opted for the crispy brussels sprouts and the hummus served with lamb. Unfortunately, beyond the leaves that fell off, many of the sprouts were on the mushy side - but they were seasoned wonderfully and the aioli (served on the side) was delicious. The lamb was incredible, but the hummus was a bit runny - it made it difficult to get a substantial amount on the pita. Also, six slices of pita for such a large portion of hummus and lamb? Absolutely loved the authenticity of all of the dishes. I was visiting friends in Berkeley and we all wanted to find a good Turkish restaurant after hearing about the community in SF. As a Greek Armenian I was surprised to see moussaka on the menu , and though it was not how I was used to, it tasted amazing and we gobbled it up. The Turkish spiced fries I highly recommend the chipotle sauce was amazing with it. The appetizers combo is a MUST to get, the muhamara was probably the best out of the 3 it was so addicting. The braised lamb was so good and I'm a vegetarian (LOL) I never order meat intentionally but we got it and I enjoyed it. Even the rice was good ! The pilaf on the moussaka was good too I recommend everything we got if you're trying Mediterranean food for the first time. Baklava wasn't good to be honest, but the kunefe was pretty good. Both needed more of the simple syrup/rose water syrup on it but the baklava just felt dried. Probably better coming here in the morning when they make it fresh. Next time I come to SF I will definitely come here to try the manti as I grew up on the dish. Service was friendly and very servers were very professional even when making jokes they answered all of our questions. We felt taken care of and definitely not neglected. Tasty Mediterranean cuisine, it's pretty reasonably priced compared to other places like Oren's. I highly recommend the pita and dip combo as a starter too (plus you can ask them for bread refills). Our waitress was really nice and gave us fantastic service. They also had a live DJ who played what I would classify as a mix of electronic house music and traditional Turkish music, honestly very fun to listen to. Desserts are great as well, especially the banana and Nutella bread dish - it was loaded with Nutella but it wasn't too too rich, it was just right. Wow--Troya is one of the best Mediterranean restaurants in San Francisco! My friend Ana and I decided to have a ladies night on Fillmore--meaning lots of wine, delicious food, and scoping out the talent. I reserved a table using Yelp Reservations, which was easy peasy. Troya's outdoor dining setup was very thoughtful. Good spacing between tables and plenty of heat lamps for typical chilly San Francisco weather. We decided to order the Troya for 2--the prix fixe meal. Unfortunately, they don't offer the meat option for dinner, but since it was early in the night, they accommodated us. The Troya for 2 was complete with salad, roasted cauliflower, a hummus & dolma plate, meat sampler entree, and baklava dessert. Let me tell you, this meal was incredible and at the perfect price point! I will be dreaming about this meal for months. We each had a glass of red to pair with the meat. The wine, many of which were Greek or Turkish, went perfectly with our meal. The wait staff were incredibly attentive and kind. Even though they eventually got busy between takeaway orders and dine-in, they still made sure to ask us if we liked our food. We also got to try some wines before ordering our next glass. Troya makes me go troYA LET'S GO AGAIN! I get unruly here. I keep it together because I'm a great dinner guest but the flavors are so powerful and delicious that I find myself going primal. I want to rip my napkin in half and yell for more of the soft, delicious eggplant. Instead I just sip water calmly. I want to let my eyes roll back in my head and let drool cascade down my chin after just two forkfuls of the tender, perfectly spiced Brussels sprouts. I almost did that tonight, but stopped myself just in time and gave my partner a little mysterious smile and said "mmm" instead. The quinoa salad is ridiculously fresh and bright. I got the chicken salad on a sunny day and it was the perfect choice, the portion itself was appropriate and the flavors all balanced each other. I ordered the Braised Lamb Shoulder, but it was really cold. I think they are short-staffed, and the servers are struggling. It took 10 minutes to flag down one of the servers to let them know that the food was cold. I don't understand how they expect us to eat cold lamb. My wife had already finished her food (lamb skewers) by the time I got mine back. We wanted to order dessert, but it took another 15 minutes to get the server's attention. I can't blame her because she was running around by herself. She couldn't even clean our table before bringing the desserts. We ordered Kunefe and Turkish Delight, but they served the delight first and took a long time to bring the other dessert to our table. They also didn't clear our previous drinks from the table. Turkish Delight was good, but I can't say the same thing for Kunefe. It was crispy and looked great, but the cheese was salty, which it's not supposed to be. I felt like I was eating a second round of their starter Borek. I expected it to be a dessert, but it's super salty. I don't know why they did that. The atmosphere inside was really nice, with good music selections and a nice design, but the floor needs more attention. With better management, this place will kill it read more
