On a sunny, but not too hot, day you go here for the setting. True Food Kitchen has an excellent garden terrace which is a great place to while away the early afternoon and get in trouble with your boss because you came back from lunch at 3pm. Even the bar area is open, airy, and sunny. They're also a great place to bring your vegan friends, with multiple interesting options. Looking for something light and fresh in Pasadena during a work trip. Found this little gem. We parked in the back (valet only with no attending). So we walked in via the back to the inside counter and waited while staff walked by. Wasn't sure if we needed to order before, be seated, sit at the bar. We finally got someone's attention and they told us we had to go to the front host (which you can't see coming in from the back). After that little set back we were sat down quickly. We stopped by True Food Kitchen on a hot Sunday afternoon with our dog, Harley, and it was such a great experience. They have outdoor tables with umbrellas, which made it really comfortable even in the heat. One thing that really stood out was that our server brought a bowl of water for Harley without us even asking--such a thoughtful touch and very appreciated! Wish I could remember his name! We started with the edamame dumplings, which were absolutely delicious. Then we tried two pizzas: the Charred Broccoli & Burrata and the Sausage & Smoked Gouda. The broccoli pizza was incredible--please bring this one back! The flavors were amazing. I swear I tasted lemon zest and maybe a little chili oil? Whatever it was, it worked perfectly. However, I watched the chef (big guy) come over to the bar, take a napkin, blow his nose, then wipe his nose with his finger, and proceed to go right back into the kitchen to handle food without washing his hands. To note- The kitchen is open, so you can see from the bar into the back with staff working. I don't care how good the food is, I lost my appetite and won't be going back. The waitress completely understood and she was great about it all. I don't write many reviews but this needs to be addressed by management. This is coming from someone who is easy to please, but I was a little disappointed with my recent and first time experience at True Food Kitchen in Pasadena. My boyfriend and I had gone to the True Food location in Vegas, and we loved it so much we decided we were going to go again once we learned there was a local location. What was tough for us was the lack of attentiveness from our waitress. Between ordering drinks and ordering our food were long stretches of time. Even when someone else brought our food out to us we still hadn't seen her for a while and we wanted to ask for some things (water refill, extra plates). We were halfway through our meal before she showed again to take away the appetizer plates and we were able to ask her for what we needed. 10 more minutes, she brings the plates, and then we don't see her again for another 20 minutes after we finished our meal. We were waiting for the chocolate cake that comes with our meal. We saw her so we flagged her down to ask her if it was maybe coming soon, and she said that it would be. 30 minutes later it comes out. At that point I just wanted to go home, especially because the cake wasn't really that good either, and it was so small! I really didn't think that took 30 minutes....especially since we ordered it in advance when we ordered the rest of our food. The chicken Parmesan was....simple. The steak I got was very chewy and tough but the peppercorn sauce was good. The seasonal apple juice lemonade was probably the best part of the whole meal. Something has changed -- and not in a good way. My daughter and I stopped by for an early dinner. We sat outside in the courtyard, which has gone from beautiful to dingy and worn. He never checked in our table unless I flagged him down (even as he walked by us MANY times), we waited and waited for our first glass of wine and he forgot to put in our second order, he never asked or refilled our water, and instead of putting our plates on the table, he held them out so we could take them from him. I thought I was being punked. I asked for the check, which took about 15 minutes to get to the table. Just when I thought I'd experienced it all, I looked at the check and the itemized total didn't match the credit card receipt. Worse service ever. Ghosted and punked on a Wednesday night. The All-American burger with the grass fed patty was easily the best thing I had. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and tasted like really high quality beef. The bun was soft and everything came together perfectly. The buffalo chicken sandwich was also really good with a tasty sauce that had a nice kick without being overwhelming. We also tried the chocolate chip cookie à la mode and that dessert was amazing. The cookie was warm, soft, and loaded with melted chocolate chips, and the vanilla ice cream was creamy and delicious on top. We are traveling to visit near by on Easter 2026. We came here since they have many options & I'm GF. It was my boyfriend's first time at a True foods. The outside is really nice, they had table and lights. You are greeted by the hostess to sit down right at the front. We arrived at 7:15 PM, and were seated outside. Unfortunately the reason I gave a four star is we waited for 20 minutes to finally order. No one acknowledged us at all, and a table of two who was seated inside at 7:25 was helped before us. Many employees walked past us and didn't even offer us water. The hostess finally acknowledged us at 7:35, brought us "warm" water and no ice. She asked for someone to serve us. We were very close to up and leaving. Kiki took our order, and was very nice. She kept checking on us. I ordered the seasonal pizza the squash and my boyfriend had the poke bowl. He wasn't happy with the beer in a can that was warm. But we both enjoyed our food. It was really really good! If you like squash, try the new pizza. read more

I'm giving true food five stars for its high quality ingredients and inventive flavors in this roasted cauliflower bowl. The cauliflower was deliciously caramelized and hit all the marks for me. There were roasted nuts for crunch, sliced dates for sweetness, a spicy, creamy sauce for kick, and the best part, is the mince breaks for freshness! I need to re-create something like this at home because the flavors were incredible. I also had a lovely glass of their Matcha Horchata. It was very sweet. However, the waiter gladly provided me additional almond milk to dilute the sweetness and an extra shot of Matcha to counteract the sweetness as well. Great experience at true food!
