My boyfriend and I absolutely love coming to True Food Kitchen, and the Pasadena location always has such a wonderful vibe. This time we decided to try their Duo Dinner promo, and it was such a great experience! The special includes an appetizer, two entrées, and a dessert to share such a fun way to enjoy a meal together. We started with the edamame dumplings (so flavorful and fresh), then for our entrées we chose the grass-fed burger and the spinach & mushroom pizza. Both were delicious, and the new air-fried fries on the side were the perfect crispy addition. This is coming from someone who is easy to please, but I was a little disappointed with my recent and first time experience at True Food Kitchen in Pasadena. My boyfriend and I had gone to the True Food location in Vegas, and we loved it so much we decided we were going to go again once we learned there was a local location. What was tough for us was the lack of attentiveness from our waitress. Between ordering drinks and ordering our food were long stretches of time. Even when someone else brought our food out to us we still hadn't seen her for a while and we wanted to ask for some things (water refill, extra plates). We were halfway through our meal before she showed again to take away the appetizer plates and we were able to ask her for what we needed. 10 more minutes, she brings the plates, and then we don't see her again for another 20 minutes after we finished our meal. We were waiting for the chocolate cake that comes with our meal. We saw her so we flagged her down to ask her if it was maybe coming soon, and she said that it would be. 30 minutes later it comes out. At that point I just wanted to go home, especially because the cake wasn't really that good either, and it was so small! I really didn't think that took 30 minutes....especially since we ordered it in advance when we ordered the rest of our food. The chicken Parmesan was....simple. The steak I got was very chewy and tough but the peppercorn sauce was good. The seasonal apple juice lemonade was probably the best part of the whole meal. We are traveling to visit near by on Easter 2026. We came here since they have many options & I'm GF. It was my boyfriend's first time at a True foods. The outside is really nice, they had table and lights. You are greeted by the hostess to sit down right at the front. We arrived at 7:15 PM, and were seated outside. Unfortunately the reason I gave a four star is we waited for 20 minutes to finally order. No one acknowledged us at all, and a table of two who was seated inside at 7:25 was helped before us. Many employees walked past us and didn't even offer us water. The hostess finally acknowledged us at 7:35, brought us "warm" water and no ice. She asked for someone to serve us. We were very close to up and leaving. Kiki took our order, and was very nice. She kept checking on us. I ordered the seasonal pizza the squash and my boyfriend had the poke bowl. I'm giving true food five stars for its high quality ingredients and inventive flavors in this roasted cauliflower bowl. The cauliflower was deliciously caramelized and hit all the marks for me. There were roasted nuts for crunch, sliced dates for sweetness, a spicy, creamy sauce for kick, and the best part, is the mince breaks for freshness! I need to re-create something like this at home because the flavors were incredible. I also had a lovely glass of their Matcha Horchata. It was very sweet. However, the waiter gladly provided me additional almond milk to dilute the sweetness and an extra shot of Matcha to counteract the sweetness as well. Great experience at true food! First of all, the food was good and everyone enjoyed their meal. However, things leading up to finally getting our food was a disaster. We had reservations for 11 at 1 o'clock. two people showed up at 1 o'clock, three people showed up at 1:10 in the remaining people showed up at 1:20. Being late was caused by trying to find parking since the restaurant does not have a parking lot and we were all new to the area. We ordered our drinks but only half showed up. We ordered hummus and chips which came in reasonable amount of time. We finally tracked the waitress down saying that half of the drinks had not arrived. she apologized saying the kitchen was pretty backed up. The rest of the drinks finally came including a nonalcoholic drink. We all ordered our food and then the guest who order the non-alcoholic drink told the waitress that there was alcohol in the drink. The waitress smelled it and agreed. She aid she would take it back to the bartender to have them fix a new one. at that point the guest told us that she had been sober for five years and then when she sipped the drink, she broke out in the sweat, realizing it was alcohol. She as well the rest of us were quite upset about the mistake. she left the table for a while and then came back. The waitress came back with a nonalcoholic drink and confirmed that the bartender had misread the order. After waiting 45 minutes for our food and realizing another large table had been sat after us and had received their food, one of the guests got up and found the manager to complain. Our food finally arrived at 2:40. However, 30 minutes prior to that two salads were brought to our table and one coincided with the order that our 89-year-old guest had ordered. The waiter gave it to her and then realized that both salads didn't belong to our table. Since our guest started eating it, they left it which was a good thing because by then she was really needing food. As we began to leave, the manager came out and apologized taking responsibility for the mixup on the alcoholic drink, how long it took to get the food out, they were short-staffed, etc. He did not offer any discount, only offered free desert. A 1/3 of the people were leaving so that wasn't very helpful. He should've come out and apologized immediately upon realizing that a mistake had been made of giving alcohol to someone who was sober. Did he not realize the impact of that mistake made on one of his guests? Needless to say we won't be returning. read more

I have come to True Food Kitchen Pasadena a few times in the past and my most recent visit was this weekend. So far, I've enjoyed the location (usually would hang out on Colorado Blvd before or after), restaurant, service, and ambiance. For this last visit, my friend and I shared the Asian Wild-caught Shrimp (with regenerative black rice, roasted mushrooms, edamame, snap peas, and a pickled ginger soy glaze) and the Spicy Panang Curry (with added tofu). Both were pretty tasty. The curry was delicious, however it did not come with the " typical " ingredients you would find in that dish: it had regenerative black rice, carrots, sweet potatoes, and bok choy. Overall, this is a solid address (and would probably be a good casual date spot) that I'd come back to again! read more

Wow, did we have a bad experience. True Food used to be our "go-to" so we chose to attend that evening for its convenient location and the vegetarian menu. Although we were seated by a host, we sat at our table for a while before we flagged down service staff. Even then, it took a while to get our drink order and basic water. We ordered starters -- but they arrived surprisingly soft and over-cooked. Our entrees were suddenly delivered by a separate server -- one who didn't know which plate went where and basically dropped the plates and bowls on our table in a hurry, leaving them for us to figure out. No effort to identify which-was-which or what-was-what. Our starter dishes remained on the table when that server left. In fact, we stacked those dishes at the end of the table, hoping that a passing service person would carry them off. But that didn't happen. We had to flag a separate service person to ask for those dishes to be removed from the table -- and even then, that service-person hesitated as though our table wasn't his responsibility. Our waitress was not to be found. The butternut squash soup was bland and flavorless. When our waitress passed, headed for another table, we stopped her to complain about the soup. She didn't hesitate to offer to replace it with another item on the menu -- although that process took some time. Even then, the bland soup bowl remained on the table -- even after we asked if someone could take it. It remained there throughout the meal. It sat there, brown and bland, untouched, going cold. The Chinese chicken salad was nothing special and it didn't improve with the dressing. Our son reported that his turkey burger was 'okay.' When my husband received his chicken-pasta dish, replacing the bland soup, he ate it because he was hungry -- but not because it was any good. We generally shared that the experience might improve when we got to dessert --- because we remembered that True Food had good desserts -- but we never found out. Our waitress moved past and dropped our check on the table, offering to "take care of that for us when we were ready." We looked at each other confused. We wondered whether the restaurant closed early -- and whether we were 'keeping' the wait staff. We flagged the waitress to the table and asked whether they were closing. She said no. We asked why she hadn't offered dessert; she said she didn't realize we were interested in dessert. We said, "well, not now." We shared our complaints with the waitress and she offered to get the manager -- but she need not have bothered. The manager was even LESS interested in our complaints than the waitress had been. She looked past us as though we were invisible. We pointed at the bowl of bland, flavorless soup that we "sent back" -- only it never went back, it was still sitting in the center of the table. She had no reaction. She offered no apology and no excuse. We won't be back. read more

Stopped in today to celebrate My Moms Birthday for lunch we came around 1pm our server was excellent he was very attentive and had great rapport. However the food wasn't great I had to send back my entrée because it wasn't cooked properly and didn't taste right at all, my Moms main dish was missing 2 ingredients the Avocado and the Quinoa it was supposed to have! I Sent my food back and got an appetizer instead and we never said anything about her salad. We used to love True Food Kitchen! It was one of our favorite restaurants with fresh, delicious food. Unfortunately after today it has gone significantly downhill. The service was non existent. We waited for a server for 20 minutes, without a greeting or water. When we finally flagged someone down, the response was, "ready?" She disappeared after taking our order and we had to flag down different servers for any requests. This was possibly the worst service we've ever received. Alisa was our server today. Our pizza came soggy. The salad warm and wilted. Chicken tenders over done. The portions were small and the food was below average. We were unpleasantly surprised. Stopped by on a Friday around 3 and we waited a few minutes to be seated outside. Super cute aesthetic all around. I appreciate that they had heaters as it was a bit cold. My husband and I both ordered the bougie blanco pizza and it was amazing! So delicious- one of the best pizzas I've had. I love that they use sourdough bread for the crust, and organic ingredients where it matters most. My butternut squash soup side was also great. In general, I like True Food because they are conscious of using quality ingredients (organic, local, grass fed etc) and avoiding seed oils in their cooking.
