I told him it was our first time here and we would probably have a few questions. We looked at the menu (they have one on the wall as well as a laminated one). I chose their 1-scoop platter. For my chicken, I chose "Carol," which is a simply dressed scoop. They have other scoops that have items in them, such as pimentos. For my side, I chose "broccoli salad". Crackers are given with each platter. Plus, a cookie is given (mini round buttercream frosted). My husband got a croissant with Carol's chicken salad. He got a cup of soup instead of a side dish. We each got soft drinks. A cup is given, and it's self-serve. All in all, we enjoyed our meals. The decor, to me anyway, reminded me of an old time kitchen table, complete with plastic tablecloths with prints. I felt the decor gave off a cozy feel.

I make a Barada burst at home, we learned in Italy how to do it. Yours was one of the best I've ever had. Same with the lemon ricotta ravioli. It's like we were in Sicily again. Sitting at the bar, we decided sure why not have their best steak? And we did. And it was. This was a Prime Kansas City strip, 18 ounce bone in. on top, a buttery braised shallot. Cooked to perfection, tasty and buttery. Our sides were these nice parmesan crispy, layered potatoes and a delightful grilled leaf spinach. We were a little disappointed we had no room for dessert. But we will be back! The service was spectacular. Sitting at the bar, it was like we had two personal servers and a third on standby at all times. We started with our drink orders. I ordered a hot cup of genmaicha, only to be told they were all out--bad news on such a cold day. The server offered to bring me a hot cup of barley water, which I declined and stuck with tap water. My husband ordered a Kirin Light beer. For an appetizer, we chose shishito peppers, and we both ordered miso soup. The sizable portion of peppers was well-grilled and flavored. Shishitos are tricky. For the most part, they are mild peppers. However, like Anaheim peppers, sometimes a hot pepper shows up. The first two I ate, oh...they were hot. The rest were mild. We ordered miso soup. It arrived steaming hot. It was excellent. It was a larger serving than what most Japanese restaurants provide. It had a generous amount of tofu and green onions. It was almost a meal in itself. For my main course, I chose a "rainbow roll" which consists of: "California roll with tuna, salmon, and yellowtail". It was a very generous-sized roll, well assembled. The wasabi and ginger portion was quite adequate. A bottle of low-sodium soy sauce is placed on the table. I really enjoyed this roll. My husband ordered the "Teriyaki dinner" which consists of "grilled protein, stir-fried seasonal vegetables served with steamed rice and teriyaki sauce. The choice of proteins are chicken, salmon, or shrimp. He chose chicken. It was quite a sizable portion, so we took some home to have for lunch the next day. At one point during the meal, our server brought us each a cup of hot barley water (to make up for not having hot tea). Since barley doesn't agree with me, I passed on it. I ordered the salmon sandwich, which consists of: "Choice of your chimney bread, spread with dill cream cheese, filled with smoked Atlantic salmon, spring mix, cucumber, and red onion." The bread choices are everything bagel, jalapeno, and cheesy. I chose the everything bagel and asked for no onion. I found this sandwich to be tasty, but I thought they could have gone lighter with the dill cream cheese. The bread had a nice crispness. My husband ordered the ham and Swiss sandwich, which consists of: "Choice of your chimney bread, spread with paprika mayo and filled with black forest ham, Swiss cheese, fresh romaine hearts, spring mix, sweet pepper, tomato, cucumber, and red onion". He wasn't happy with the paprika mayo, as he says mustard would have worked better. Nor did he care for the sweet peppers. Now he knows not to order the default setting for this sandwich but instead to customize the toppings. They work with DoorDash, which, when ordering online, gives the option to customize one's order. There are high tables, the type that are found in bars, for those who want to eat their sandwiches there. The place is kept very clean.
