I found out about True Skin care through Groupon. I purchased a deal for a facial and made an appointment. I made sure to arrive early but ended up arriving late because I got lost trying to find this office location. If you come here, I suggest going up to Macy's and then find another elevator to take to the 9th floor and then locate the suite. There is no elevator from the ground floor that will take you to this office (at least not one I could find). Good luck! When I came, I had Gigi as my aesthetician. The room was set up to be very relaxing. As Gigi put facial products on my skin, one of the products started to really burn and tingle on my face. When I expressed this problem to Gigi, she was quick to remove the product from my skin. I'm not sure what products they use here but that was the first time I've ever had that happen to me while I had a facial (and I've had a lot of facials). The rest of the facial was pleasant. They did not try to sell me any products (thankfully). read more

I bought a Bloomspot certificate for a Brazilian wax here. Staff is friendly and the office is very comfortable and accommodating. I cannot remember the name of esthetician, but she was pleasant and personable. She did the job with precision and ease. But the one thing I noticed that bothered me was that she DOUBLE DIPPED her sticks, which is a big no-no in the waxing world! When I got home, I realized there were tiny patches of long hair in multiple areas that she forgot to wax off. For a place that typically charges $65 for a Brazilian wax, this is inexcusable. I'm happy I had a coupon or else I would have been very upset. Needless to say, I'll never come back nor recommend this place for waxing to anyone. I'll stick to my usual spot where every strand of hair that could be waxed is taken off and my esthetician never double dips. read more

I come here for my laser hair removal! I have seen 2 of the aestheticians here they were both great and both made me feel comfortable. As comfortable as it can get for a brazillian at least. Of the two, I now request Jen! I feel like she is more thorough in the procedure and she takes her time. It has been more than 6 treatments for me but it is expected. I've done other areas of my body (at other med spas or dr.'s) that also took more than 6 treatments before the hair was gone. All in all, I don't mind coming in to get my girl parts painfully shot at. First, because I know Jen is Great! Secondly, because it feels like your about to be pampered when you walk in, and finally, because I don't think I've had to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment. I've been to a handful of medi-spa's, and True Skin care is be far the most professional. First of all, I appreciate that it is a doctor's office. I think there is more legitimacy that comes with it. The first time i went in, they had a PA (physician's assistant) check me out to make sure I was a laser candidate. I've been lasering my hair for a while now. (People need to realize that it takes a while and numerous treatments.) I think the lasers they carry are more effective than those I've used at other locations. Finally, I can't say enough about Jen Casey, my aesthetician. She is so fun and helpful and will become your girlfriend over your sessions with her. She takes a personal interest and almost a sense of responsibility about her work. She wants to make sure you get the results you are looking for. She is so awesome. read more

Very impressive! I purchased a Groupon for three Laser Treatments for $180 without knowing anything about True Skin (couldn't resist that deal) ... and I was delighted by how great my entire experience was. The staff was VERY friendly, my appointment was taken early, and I felt really comfortable during the entire session. I've never done laser hair removal before and was a bit nervous - but Terri patiently answered my questions and was extremely thorough with the details of the procedure. After 15 minutes of talking with Kaitlin, I decided I first wanted to test a small area to see if I'd have an adverse reaction - and come back in a few weeks to finish during a second appointment. Kaitlyn was completely patient and nice about my decision, and she didn't charge me anything for the consultation and trial (even though I was supposed to forfeit one of three treatments)! Going to see Jen Casey is like catching up with an old college friend. A Groupon for laser hair removal introduced me to True Skin Med Spa a little over a year ago. There are 6-8 weeks between every appointment and each time I go, I'm trying to remember "What did we talk about last time?" We exchange updates and advice about what's going on since our last visit, including any new restaurants we've tried around Chicago. I know it's weird, but I feel like I've made a friend at this place. That's not normal customer service. Over the past year, there have been two scheduling snafu's, both of which were handled very well by the front desk staff. One time, I missed an appointment due to travel that put my watch in a different time zone. The front desk staff was able to book me for another appointment the same week, so as not to throw off my treatment schedule. The other scheduling snafu had to do with an equipment problem with the laser, so they rescheduled me and comped me a treatment to make up for their cancellation. Considering I have been there 8 or 10 times, that's a pretty good track record. These people treat you well. They know how to run their business. And they know how to keep good people, which speaks to good management at the top. I'm glad I found Jen and True Skin. Highly recommended. read more

I had tried laser hair removal somewhere else and had a really bad experience so I was hesitant when I bought the Groupon for this office. I have to say that I have been COMPLETELY blown away by how awesome this place is. That Duet machine is so great and really helps manage any pain. In addition, Kaitlin (who rocks!) used a machine to blow cold air on the area before using the laser. I could barely feel it and I am a HUGE baby about pain. I have to say that even though I bought the Groupon I would actually pay full price to come here. I have been telling all of my friends that its worth every penny. read more

The prices are great except that they do not offer a free consultation. If you decide that their services are not for you, an expensive consultation fee of $80 is charged. As the fee is otherwise deducted from the service, there is a lot of pressure to agree to their services. I have been surprised too many times by an unclean facility or a technician who does not know the routine. I would never commit to a procedure before a consultation, and I am not going to pay $80 to find out if a spa is up to par. read more

I come here for laser hair and I love it! Staff is very friendly and welcoming. It is also very easy to schedule and change appointments. I see Jen Casey, an aesthetician, for my laser treatments and she is really great. She is very friendly and professional. She is very open to answer any questions you make have. She makes sure you are as comfortable as possible and explains everything. She is patient and tries to make it as pain free as possible. Definitely ask for her! Sorry guys, my laser hair removal didn't work. Not sure if it's the lasers they use or the staff's technique (the woman treating me seemed kinda inexperienced) but I saw almost no results. (On the plus side, the office itself is very nice and you do feel a bit pampered.) I might have written this off to "well laser hair removal just doesn't work on me" but: a) I am a perfect candidate (dark hair, light skin) and b) I tried going to a different salon and I've had TERRIFIC results there - so much so that I've purchased two additional packages for two more areas after seeing the great results from my first one. Hello everyone! So here is my story and my first review ever about smth else but I must do it! So I found a coupon on a groupon website for laser hair removal. I worked in another company here in US and we worked with group on so I know that businesses give groupon about 50% of the money I pay via website. So I called this spa and asked if it is ok and good for them if I pay in the office. They told me yes. (And this is my first mistake) After this I asked front dest lady how long will it take. And she told me it will be about 1-1,15 hour. This was very important for me because I have a 5 month old baby and I had to ask baby sitter to come and I had to tell my baby sitter when I come back. After this I called this spa 3 times to reschedule because of my baby and they confirmed me that time. So on that day I came there on time. Almost immediately the lady picked me up. In the beginning we started to discuss money. I wanted to do 2 middle area and one large areas. I told her this and I told her I want to buy one coupon for this and do 3 on that day and 3 on another day. That lady started to tell me that I can't buy 6 procedures for medium area. Ok I was agree and I offered her if I just buy 6 procedures for large areas and she will do 2 medium and 1 large on this money. She was not agree. I tried to understand and we were spending about 15 min of discussing. She told me that I have to pay 6 procedures for extra large areas and we will do 3 today (remember it was just 2 medium - underarm and bikini and one large - half legs). I was solo upset so ok I was agreed and I was thinking I was wrong. I told her lets start asap. The she asked me did you shave? I told her no nobody told me this (I did laser hair removal in another spa and they told me I shouldn't shave 2-3 days before the laser). She told me - oh ok - I have to shave you and you have to spend additional 15 or 50$ on this) AND you know I spend so much time discussing with you money that I do not have time to finish all 3 areas. I was shocked. I called the spa several times to confirm time, we spend max 20 min for all this staff and she is telling me please pay me for shaving and maybe I won't finish all areas!!! Is it normal??? I told her I won't pay and see asked manager. I told the manager that story almost crying and she told me yes I understand you and I have to check with front desk! Is it normal? Also she told me that is If didn't shave at home they will charge me for this!!! Yes I started to tell her that it is not normal and I don't lie and she asked me if I want to go out!!!!! What??? Ahh I forgot the lady who told me that I have to buy 3 extra large areas asked me if I live close by and I can go there and shave!! yes i live in downtown but i don't want to go home, shave and go back! So now I think it was emotional abuse or smth like this, I do not have other words. In the end I agreed with everything because I wanted to finish all this. And this is was my second mistake - I had to go out after all this terrible things. So yes in the end they shaved me with the shave very quickly - 2 min and did 3 areas in 10 min - very very quickly also. And yes I paid like for 6 extra large. And yes the lady who told me this she told me we did 3 extra large and 3 I will do next time. I left and felt terrible. I found other deals on groupon and I even called them and they told me they would charge me the same amount for 12 procedures not for 6 as I was told here. After this i called my husband who is a top manager in international company here. I told him this and he told me it is terrible and it is first time he meets so awful people who behave like in a very cheap salon! Of course he meets many people and deals with many different situations here in Chicago. He told me I will never go to this spa again, never called nothing... I disputed a charge in Chase (thank you Chase) and they returned me money. So please do not go here or if you go - please buy the coupon :) What I want to say in the end - this spa thinks that they are expensive salon with good reputation but not after this. Me and my husband will tell as much people as we can that nobody should go there. But after this story all my friends were shocked!!! So yes this is my first and I hope last review because usually I don't care even if smth do smth bad but they try to solve this and don't lie. And this spa is different story. And I know that the owner from that spa will read this or front dest lady - please cancel my appointment with you on the Dec 17. I have been going to True for a few years, and the reason is Terri! I have been going to Terri for almost 10 years, and I won't let anyone else touch my face. She is so in tuned with what's going on with my skin, as she is so well versed and teaches classes. She's just not an ordinary esthetician. She will talk to me about reactions I could possibly have from medications, skin care products, etc. I love everyone in the office, as they're all very friendly. I was a regular customer until they raised their prices by 50%!!! There is no justification for that amount of increase to a price that was already top of scale. You can get the same quality treatment at many other facilities for much less money. Nothing special happens here. This place is fantastic for laser hair removal! I've been to other places and tried different lasers, but have gotten great results from Jen at True Skin Care. She is gentle and very professional. I bought a groupon for laser hair removal last winter and I did three treatments at True Skin Care. At the time, they offered me a discounted rate to extend my treatments, but I had already bought a groupon for 3 treatments at another facility so I declined. I wish I had now! I felt completely at ease at True, and the Duet definitely is the best machine out there. The other place I was at could not even compare the results I got from the first three sessions at True. The only downside for me was getting there. I live in Boystown, so I either have to drive (and parking can be a little bit of a nightmare) or take the L. But the actual service and results were spectacular. read more

I came to True Skin Care Center for Brazilian Laser treatment.. I was initially a little nervous about this as it is a very sensitive area. The laser they have is different from other lasers (I tried many others in the past) and is more efficient with less sting. As promised, an update after three treatments: The laser is working EXTREMELY well, much better than the older-style laser that another medspa used on my armpits. Even though the hair on my armpits is darker than on my bikini line and should therefore respond better, the Duet after two treatments achieved the same reduction as the regular laser after five. And now that the settings have been ratcheted up, I'm even more grateful that the Duet is less painful, because these higher settings would really be torture with a regular laser. I had a peel here, and loved it -- I looked fantastic after. I'm also 2 treatments into my 3-treatment laser package, and the results have been incredible. I've had laser package about 7 years ago, which worked reasonably well, but my upper legs still had a lot of hair, and even more years after treatments. I am truly amazed by my results. After only 2 sessions, I barely have any hair left. The place is pricey, but the results are very much there. I go to another spa for my armpits laser, and 5 sessions later I still have more hair in my armpits than I do on my legs after 2 Duet treatments. Highly recommend! read more

I come here for laser hair treatments and it is fantastic. The staff is lovely and very accommodating. I work directly with Jen Casey, an esthetician. She is very friendly and great at her job. I checked out a handful of places before I chose True Skin Care. All the others were very aggressive with their sales tactics and several of them tried to make me book my appointments on the spot. Then I went to True Skin (which is in a doctor's office) and met Jen who was extremely patient, calm, realistic and did not make a high pressure sales pitch. I felt infinitely more comfortable with True Skin than any of the med-spas. And I was ok with paying a little bit extra for the benefit/peace of mind of doing laser in a plastic surgeon's office rather than via a groupon deal. If you are thinking about doing laser hair treatments but are a little paranoid about wrecking your skin (as I am), go and find Jen at True Skin, she is the best. I also got a light peel from her a few weeks ago and my skin looked incredible (with no down time). read more

I bought a Groupon for what was advertised as an "hour-long facial." Only to learn at my appointment that this means "a half hour facial plus time to fill out paper work." So, at $49, there was no actual savings (a full hour facial is advertised as $99 on their website). My aesthetician was friendly, but the the facial itself was pretty horrible... you're not supposed to get the products in your mouth and nose, right? Then I found out when I got home that during the process she scraped my skin or damaged a few blood vessels right between my eyes (I was told the redness would subside, but this is not normal post-facial redness). I am fair-skinned and this is definitely not a good look! Crossing my fingers it doesn't look worse tomorrow, but for now, I won't be going anywhere without makeup. Maybe it's good the appointment wasn't for the full hour? Do not go here unless you're into fraudulent ads and sub-par procedures! I could have gotten better results with a drugstore treatment at home. read more

I came to True Skin for laser hair removal and was pleasantly surprised with how quick and easy the treatment is. I had also read reviews that hair removal hurts like hell and could leave red marks for days or weeks (or even months!)... so when I expressed my concerns, the specialist, Jen Casey, told me we would customize the treatment for me and ensure we do test patches so I wouldn't leave there with a giant red fu manchu. My specialist Jen is super friendly and professional, and she made me feel comfortable getting hair removed from ALL the embarrassing parts of me. I've only been in for one treatment, so I'm not sure how effective the laser itself is, but I have started to see hairs already falling out, so I'm feeling very positive about the results. I went into this appointment looking to get a wax from Annie (who is fantastic by the way--so cute and personable). Annie and I got to talking and she suggested I go through with laser treatments. I was a bit apprehensive about the procedure and expense at first but Annie sold me on how this investment would pay off financially and with longer results. She told me everything that was going to happen before it happened, easing my comfort level with the procedure. With only one treatment of laser on my armpits---I honestly haven't shaved in weeks. I can't believe how slow the growth has been and can't wait to do another treatment! I think I will even start with other parts of the body (my upper lip is a pain!). So happy to have met Annie because I would have never in a million years thought this would something I would invest in before meeting her. Such a sweetheart; so professional. Together we mapped out a treatment plan and she did a series of chemical peels, ultrasound facials and relaxing facials to get my skin camera ready.
