The waitress was lovely, the beer and cider were good, and the atmosphere is interesting (sitting at a community table), but the veggie tacos were made of mushrooms only. No veggies. We've been there at least ten times (not so many breweries in the area), and the food was always ok-ish, same as the beer. The master brewer, a nice guy, acknowledged some beers could improve, as they had a head retention problem. The chairs can't be more uncomfortable but we would have been back if it wasn't for the service. It was always clearly improvable, but the last time we were there I accidentally spilled part of my drink. The guy who looked like the manager came to clean it with a sour face, didn't even look at me and neither did he offer me a napkin to dry my clothes... I felt terrible! read more

True West has grown up. My boyfriend lives nearby and we can walk to True West so we've been going from the beginning. We've probably had dinner there 6-7 times. It's also a great place to watch a game. We ate there on Saturday night and were seated on the outside patio right away. I had a Ruckus! which is one of my my favorite beers, quite refreshing. We shared a garden salad which was a good size. He had the scallops with pea risotto which was a delicious dish. They were generous on the scallops which he was very happy to see. I had the fish tacos and the fish was such a large portion, I was impressed. They were excellent. They somewhat recently installed sound absorbing panels which has quieted down the restaurant (great move!!!). Service was ok which is why I'm giving them 4 instead of 5 stars. read more

I've been here 3 times now and had issues with the food twice. All three visits, the service was very slow and waited at least 15 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us. When we informed them of the food issues which we didn't even touch, they apologized but left it on the bill anyway. We paid for it since we didnt want to make a big deal out of it but we won't be back unfortunately. read more

I sooooo want to like this place! It is less than 5 minutes from my house, is adorable inside and out, has great beer and great service, but we are consistently disappointed by the food. We went when it first opened, then tried again a few months later, and tried again last week. The "crispy" Brussels sprouts were 100% soggy (seemed like they were steamed- Literally zero crisp and totally undercooked), though the sauce they were served in was excellent. The veggie burger looks great, and the bun was very tasty and the veggies fresh, but the patty itself almost completely void of any flavor at all. Finally, the veggie taco flight was supposed to come with crispy shallots, and there weren't any at all. Sigh. This place could be so good, but out of everything we ordered the only good thing was the fries- they were delicious! Our server was really sweet and tried to help, but something is just still wrong with the kitchen. Bummer. read more

We met friends last night at True West. One of our friends got there a half an hour before we all did to put her name in for our party of six. When we did all arrived the hostess didn't have a table for us because she never put our friends name on the waiting list! We did find a table outside so when we all tried to sit down one of the servers yelled at us and told us we couldn't have the table? Well, we did end up at the table and with the same cranky server. She was rude, never smiled and treated us like we were a bother to her. We waited a long time for our drinks, she was not happy taking our dinner order and it took so LONG TO GET OUR MEAL and in the meantime our server never came back to check on us or see if anyone wanted another drink! The only reason I'm giving two stars is for the sweetest hostess named Julia who did help at our table dropping food off, giving us plates and extra silverware. I'm sorry to say I won't be running back to True West anytime soon. read more

We are 4 just back from a late and impromptu late lunch. Beer and Margarita were very good......but the food was less than satisfactory. Two Rubens.....both over-cooked any dry. Skimpy on the sauce.....house cut fries tasted like yesterday's ....WAY OVER DONE. The burger had an odd texture....and the spices were not good to my taste. Again, the fries were way over cooked. The Mac and cheese was decent, although served cool rather than hot. On a hot day like today, it worked. We were all very disappointed......have been waiting for the bugs to be worked through until we visited. But they have a ways to go.....???????doubtful on a return. read more

AMAZING tater tots. Out of this world. Also, the burgers are delicious. Once when we went, the service took an hour and a half but they gave us everything for FREE. And they gave us extra tater tots. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. It's also a dog friendly restaurant:) would def recommend trying True West! you won't regret it read more

I came here a few months ago right after it opened. The food is delicious and the beer is good. However, the space is small and very busy! We also had some trouble with our bill and our waiter but the management were very apologetic and accommodating. read more

The wait for a table was long for a Saturday night which is expected. The wait for the food was even longer. I ordered house burger and a beer. The burger was an inch thick and cooked to perfection. We also ordered tater tots which were mildly spiced and absolute was fantastic. The only issue here was the long wait and a draft that I felt the entire night being here. Possibly, the draft was coming from the brewery door which was open the entire night. Should keep the brewery door closed. Maybe get more cooks in the kitchen to speed up the cooking a bit. Otherwise, great place and great food. read more

First off, this place is painfully loud! Like fricking way too loud. We had the brown ale and the saison, both of which were excellent. For an appetizer, we had the dry rub wings which were alos top notch. Parking was easy, the wait for a seat at the bar was only 10 min But the noise! This place needs some serious sound panels. Or maybe they can hand out ear plugs at the door. It was awful! Edit: We will definitely come back in a few weeks. You are just what this area needed. We gave this place a few weeks after opening to work out the inevitable kinks. Service had a few quirks (including that they brought all our food at pretty much the same time) but pretty good considering, Food we had was generally pretty good. It is though, one of those places so common lately with a menu that looks interesting and varied at first glance, but tries a little too hard to be trendy or unique while missing some basic things. Sometimes that can make it hard to find something you actually want to order, even when the menu appears fairly extensive. Especially true in my case, as I don't eat meat and that doesn't look like something that was considered in developing the menu. No opinion on the beer itself, we don't drink beer. As someone who doesn't like the taste of beer, it's sort of bothersome that so many things on the menu have some beer-related ingredient, and I kept wondering if things would taste like beer. (Yeah, so I was trying to avoid meat AND beer at a microbrewery. I know.) Agree with a review I saw that mentioned the wines - why not list what you have? Put it on the back of the little paper that listed some of the beers, it was blank anyway. I had to ask if they had wine, and the server rattled them off, messing up several times even if something was white or red, and no labels just type. (What I ordered was just ok.) I wasn't even aware they had a full liquor license until I wandered over to see what was on the blackboard by the bar and there were some cocktails listed below the beers. I know it's a beer-focused place, but they could pay a little more attention to the the rest of the bar service without taking away from the beer. The noise is horrendous. You can't hear your waiter, they can't hear you, you can't have a conversation. The person stationed by the door had to go outside to use her phone. I think the demand around here for any kind of decent restaurant is high so people will cut them some slack. It was certainly busy. We'll probably try it again at some point, if the menu changes some. And we'll try it later, because earlier there were LOTS of little kids and with the lack of any sound deadening that possibly made the noise situation even worse. Did I mention it was LOUD? This is the main thing that would stop us from going back. It's painful. I don't know if they designed the place to be as loud as possible, or just didn't think about it at all. read more

Three of us visited last night at about 7:15 for dinner. I was looking forward to the visit, but left disappointed. On the plus side, the food, drink and service are good. My build your own burger with no add-ons was nicely done, and my dining companions' salad and fish tacos were worthwhile. I tried two house ales, the Charleville and Issac, and liked them. The desserts were excellent. Although our order took a while to arrive, our server was attentive, kept us posted on our order's progress, and made sure that all of our other needs were taken care of during the wait. However, the dining experience left a lot to be desired. I had been warned the place is loud, but still wasn't prepared for the volume. When told there would be a 45 to 60 minute wait, I suggested leaving, since I didn't like the idea of standing around that long in a loud environment. Standing is required, since the waiting area is a bench that seats three. We could also have gone outside and waited for a text, but there's nowhere to go in West Acton after 5 PM except True West. The rest of the party prevailed, and we ended up being seated in about 20 minutes. During dinner the noise required raised voices and a lot of attention to maintain our conversation. Noisy standing room only venues were fun in my twenties, but not now. One of my companions wanted wine, and True West serves it, but there is no printed wine list. The waitress had to go back to check types and prices before wine could be ordered. That was a waste of everyone's time. Overall, the meal was not worth the visit. Acton needs more restaurants and nightlife, but there are two similar places in town already. If I want craft beer and a burger, I can go elsewhere, enjoy a meal at least as good as this one, and relax instead of shout. If I want craft beer alone, there are even more choices. Having the beer brewed within sight of my table does not magically make it the best. I'll be back to try again, but not until I know that the noise problem has been addressed. read more

The atmosphere speaks volumes about the service. Concrete, cold, and completely uninviting. The wait staff was overwhelmed, even though it wasn't that busy. We waited 40 minutes for our hamburgers, only for them to be ice cold. After complaining, the waitress took them back, and we waited another half-hour for their return......At that point, we had lost our appetite. Although the waitress was very apologetic, and kind, I was extremely disappointed that the owner himself didn't even address the issue. I was so looking forward to this new addition to our community, but unfortunately, it was a huge let down, and I will never return again, nor will I recommend it to anyone. read more

Great, if not particularly innovative beer and rock solid pub food. True West is probably playing it safe as this area isn't crawling with breweries or particularly avant-garde restaurants, but what they do, they do well. Think of it as a modern update of the 90's brewpub. Instead of the fake British pub interior, they've gone with a clean, but rustic New England-y vibe. They have all your favorite pub/brewery foods (including tots), but done with local ingredients and attention to detail. We went with the fried pickles (perfectly fried, but could have had a more intense pickle flavor), Greek kale salad (no complaints here), and the fried chicken sandwich. Although you might get sticker shock from the $14 price tag, this is Acton so it probably isn't out of the ordinary, this sandwich easily serves two people and it comes already cut in half. The fries it comes with are hand cut and properly fried, not a half cooked limp one in the whole bunch. The beer here is all quite good and checks of all the style boxes so you can bring pretty much any beer drinker here and they'll find something enjoyable. While they don't get crazy within the styles, the beers are all very well made and it seemed to me that they care more about quality control than most brewpubs. True West is not at the forefront of the beer or food scenes in Massachusetts, but I don't think they are trying to be the next Tree House or Tasting Counter. read more

Been here multiple times and was here on opening weekend, a few weeks after that, a few months after that, a year after that...In a nutshell, Food is always dark brown due to over-cooking, most items saturated with oil but the worst... the service. Recently I had one of my best staff experiences. My waitress, Shannon, and the food runner, Cassidy, were both so incredibly friendly and charming, and I felt that it truly enhanced my experience. We live in Concord and have been here a few times. Tonight was a major disappointment. The bar was almost empty and our service from the bartender was awful. After ordering dinner and a glass of wine he walked by us several times and didn't register that he didn't get my wine. I finally asked him and he didn't even remember what I ordered. The food was mediocre and my husband's burger came with cheese when he specifically asked for no cheese. The bartender never bothered to ask if I'd like another glass of wine and so I asked again for a refill. When it didn't come yet again I was waved away as if being a pain. It's like the bartender has no attention span for what was just asked of him???? Will not be going back read more

I took my son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren to True West last night. It was my first time there, but I would take friends and family there again and again. The food was wonderful -- I had a True West burger to die for. And we also ordered a flight of six True West beers. Now, I only tasted two -- but the Wicked Pissah was wonderful. Fifth time here. They do great beer. Period. They continue to have no idea how to run the food side of the operation. Waited two hours for a table starting at 445. Many open table and they have no clue how to flip the room for productivity. On a Saturday night they ran out of four main ingredients. Like cheese. Really. Waited 45 minutes for food which is still mediocre at best. Menu is creative but portions are inconsistent and usually small. I suggest a beer or cocktail but eating elsewhere. My friend and I went for lunch on a Thursday. We both arrived at about 11:50 and they don't open until noon and they mean that. The place was locked up tight and they didn't come by to open the doors until 12:03pm. Upon entering we were seated and the waitress came over to bring us our menus and get our drink order. Our waitress throughout was attentive and fun so no complaints there. I ordered their chicken sandwich with potato tots in lieu of fries. (Yes there is an upcharge for this which I thought was a little silly but I was assured by out waitress that the tots were worth it.) The chicken sandwich wasn't good at all. The chicken breast had been fried for far too long thus drying it out completely - and the bread coating on it was a dark brown color indicating this was the case. The Havarti had been put on the sandwich then I'm guessing it put under the broiler to melt it - usually I would totally appreciate this move by a kitchen but on an already overcooked chicken breast the last thing it needed was more cooking. And it was under there too long as the cheese had dried up and was pretty much tasteless. So the sandwich was a total mess and not worth my time or money. The tots, on the other hand, were wonderful. The waitress was correct; I was fine with the upcharge. They make their own and I don't know what they do to them or how they make them but they were wonderful. The only thing that I would have changed there would be to add/offer a dipping sauce - perhaps a beer cheese or a ranch. My friend ordered the street tacos of the day which were chicken and she was happy with them. She is gluten free and accommodating that wasn't a problem at all - though she couldn't try the tots. Neither of us is a beer drinker but I have heard that True West does a nice job with theirs. I don't know that I will go back based solely on the fact that my sandwich was so over-cooked. It never should have been served looking like it did and when I mentioned it to the manager he offered nothing - not even an apology. read more

This place is what Acton needed. Family friendly. Menu just changed. Hybrid between fine dinning and brewery. Beer....again BEER is awesome! and I am not a beer drinking. My kids love the fries and popcorn chicken. I also noticed a couple of tables had an allergy, and a manager brought the food to the table. read more

5 Stars for filling a need in West Acton! After a long wait, True West is finally open. Visited tonight with a couple buddies for some beer and apps. Tried their own brews...they only have 2 right now...First Batch (a brown ale) and their golden ale...both very good. Tried the wings as well and they were meaty and tasty. The menu looks great - pub fare /comfort food with twist, all apparently made from scratch. Friendly and efficient staff which is a good sign considering they just opened. Nice buildout/decor sort of industrial chic.They have an outside deck (no seating) but it was raining tonight so stuck inside. The one negative, and they really need to address this, is that it was so loud that we couldn't even hear ourselves talk. I've been in noisy bars before but this was crazy loud. Even after the crowd thinned out it seemed just as loud. I strongly suggest some noise cancelling fixtures and then it will be my home away from home :) read more

Well, we didn't actually eat or drink here. VERY loud. Arrived about 5:30 on a Saturday. Was told the wait would be an hour and a half. So we put our name in and had some discussion about it. We decided to try our luck somewhere else after about 15 minutes (members of our party were hungry), went back to the hostess to take our party of 6 off the list. She hadn't even taken our name down! Reading reviews it certainly seems mixed, I'm not sure why anyone thinks 1.5 hours is an acceptable wait time. We ended up at Rapscalion, where they were very accomodating, seated us right away, even though they were also busy, served us and we were done in 1.5 hours. We WILL be going there again. read more
