We had dinner there last week during their soft opening. The staff was friendly and quick. The menu was inventive, and there were several offerings I'm looking forward to trying in the future. Their featured chorizo flat bread was delicious! The spiced wings were also a treat, though their buffalo wings weren't very buffalo-y. Everything is made from scratch and in house and it is definitely going to be our go-to spot for eating out. Their beer wasn't ready yet, but I will be in soon to try it out. read more

This is a Buffalo Bills bar, despite the bar filled with Pats fans and literally 2 Bills fans, 1 of 2 TVs at the bar was tuned to the Bills. Waitress was confused as to our table being hers and then bar got backed up and they were unable to bring second beer until we had finished our food. Based on other reviews, seems like par for the course. I don't understand how it makes sense to open a Bills bar in Pats territory?! Food not bad,nothing special. read more

We just moved to Acton and had heard really good things about their beer so were excited to check it out. We went in on a Saturday night. It was busy when we arrived but we were able to be sat right away. I ordered the Light in the Sky, which was great. I also got the fried chicken sandwich with a side of greens that was tasty as well. My husband got the fish and chips which he said were good, but not great. We will definitely be back to check out more of the beer and menu. read more

This place is VERY promising. The decor and atmosphere are great. And I love that it's not a chain, but instead is a locally run farm to table brewery. The overall vibe was jovial and friendly. The beer and cocktails are great. And we loved the appetizers too. Main courses and service fella little short though. On the service front: I really wish places like this took reservations. Even if they set aside 25% of their tables for walk-ins, to not offer reservations makes it really hard to dine there with small kids. It's just not realistic to think that a family will wait for 1+ hours, even though there is a park across the street. The only other service complaint was that the food didn't come out all at once (one of the entrees came out 10 minutes later), and that when I asked the waitress for extra ketchup, she stood at the table and continued to chat with us (she knew someone in our party). The main courses were good, but lacked seasoning. I ordered the pulled pork, which had definite high points (the tomato jam is amazing), but the bun wasn't toasted so became soggy really quickly. The pork was also rather dry. Adding additional BBQ sauce resolved that though. I also clearly got the last of the batch of fries - hardly a whole fry on the plate. The other dishes we had were also lacking salt across the board. Once salted taste was much better. Overall our experience was good. It's clearly a place that will continue to have a great local following. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they start taking reservations though - that will greatly increase the likelihood of us returning. read more

I have visited True West several times, and given the few options in the West Acton area, would love for this place to work out. Unfortunately, almost every time I've visited, the menu says one thing, and the server says another: items listed are not offered. Last time I visited towards the end of October, the server noted about 6 to 7 items not available...hmmm, methinks this is a good place to grab a beer, but not a great place to have a meal. read more

The fried pickles were the star of the show--interesting take, connected to the brewery, nice job. If only the service and other food had followed suit... but it didn't. Well the beer was good! Came for dinner, family of 4, 6:15pm, had a wait even though we saw 3 tables open . Got seated 20 mins later at one of them! Was NOT told they were out of fish after handing us menus to look over for 10 mins. Ordered nachos to start. Not worth it..hardly any chips and over smothered with greasy beef so chips were soggy. Dinner: The taco trio: really wanted the fish, ugh! Ended up going with veggie and pork. The veggie one was awful! Mushy veggies, not even sure what I was eating? Hardly any filling, and $15 for the 3! The other 2 pork ones were pretty good. No sides with the tacos. Caeser salad: way too anchovy tasting, tasted like a bad fish plate. Large plate Mac & cheese: was delicious but not large at all for $17! The food also took so long to come. The waitress kept apologizing. The table next to us had their food boxed because they were so annoyed by the wait. I noticed the majority of people around us ordering burgers which looked good. Wish we tried one instead. Maybe that's the only good food here? Won't know because won't return. Left feeling irritated, unsatisfied and overcharged. read more

We love this place. Not only is the beer absolutely fantastic, the food is equally as good. Finally a place to "call your own" around the local area. We've now had dinner there four times and also brought our three young children with us. Seldom is there a place where you can feel like an adult, but still satisfy your kids with a good meal and atmosphere too. They recently changed their fish and chip batter which came from some customer recommendations. So frankly- they listen and adjust to their customer feedback - it's so refreshing !! Let's start the review with a question; why do people keep going to Disney World to wait in long lines? Because the wait is worth the ride! This is my second review of True West and I was not disappointed. Given that I had previously given them my first ever "Grand Slam Rating", I decided this is where I would celebrate Mother's Day a bit early with my wife. We were told it would be an hour wait. No problem, great beer selection, plenty of room to stand around and the Yankees were playing the Sox on the big screen. After about 30 minutes, the owner/hostess offered us two seats at the bar while we waited on our table. We decided to sit there as the initial ordering service was perfect. As tempting as it was to stick with what we knew, we ventured off of our prior meals just slightly. At my request, we told the bartender to bring our appetizers and main meal as soon as they were ready. The quality of the macaroni and cheese dish did not fail one bit since we last enjoyed it. I even shared it with the gentleman sitting to my right and he said it was the best he had ever had. I had to agree, with my sincerest apologies to my own mom's wonderful recipe. Again we ordered the pretzel bread with cheese sauce - OMG! Admittedly we over ordered and tried both the chicken wings and the pork tacos. The pork tacos came out and were incredible. My wife and I are avid cooks and my Mexican - American wife who has a flair for Mexican cooking found this meal to match or dare I say, excel the cooking of her aunts back home. The chicken wings were the last to arrive - with apologies from Peter, one of the owners, for not arriving before the main course. This was due to the chef's impeccable respect for my food allergy and accommodations were made in the kitchen to make sure that I not only enjoyed these incredible wings and sauce, but also that I would not be rushed out in an ambulance. Many kudos to Kate, our barmaid who despite being incredibly busy never skipped a beat with our food or beverage service. So my local friends and neighbors, unless you like paying crazy airfare prices and standing in lines in the sweltering heat in Florida, may I strongly encourage you visit our own "happiest place on earth" in our hometown of Acton. After reading a very positive newspaper review I was excited to visit True West. I'm sad to say that I was fairly disappointed. The positives: Nice atmosphere, lots of interesting things on the menu, extensive beer list, plenty of parking on the street or in back. The problem is the food just isn't very good. I ordered the pork tacos and my wife ordered a Ruben sandwich. The tacos were quite bland and very mushy. Not sure what was making them so drippy but it was kind of a mess. My wife saw that I had stopped eating and offered to trade half of her sandwich for a taco. She took a bite and handed it back. My wife's Ruben wasn't any better. She asked for light on the 1000 island and there was probably a half teaspoon on it. Ok, maybe a communication breakdown there but you would think that it should at least cover more than a 1 inch surface of the bread. She opened it up and you could count the individual strands of saurekraut. Not sure why they would skimp on such an inexpensive ingredient. It was served on some kind of brown bread which, while good, should have been rye bread to make a proper Ruben. She said the corned beef was good. Granted, it's a new restaurant and they always have growing pains and we have only tried two things so your experience may vary. We will be back to give it another chance maybe in 6 months or so and hopefully things will settle down. read more

Third time visiting and looking forward to going back to see more changes. There is a new menu this week and a new head chef and it seems they are working out a lot of kinks. We love the atmosphere and beer but have been unimpressed by the food. What has impressed us is the service. We sent back a few dishes last night but the manager was quick to talk to us and comp us for the food we didn't like. He seemed very interested in our opinions and I hope as a result they continue to improve their dishes. I give them a four star rating because even though I would rate their food two stars their willingness to make things right speaks a lot about their commitment to customer service. My SO & I stopped in randomly. He's a bit of a foodie, so we were both surprised he had not read about the restaurant. We were in West Acton and spotted this little mini "village" which includes a yoga cooperative, dance studio, and more, including True West. We decided to pop in, see what was what and grab some food. The space is very aesthetic, sort of barren contemporary with elements of the refurbished craze. For example, the foot rest at the bar is re-purposed pipe, and besides being extremely functional, it adds a nice touch to the bar. From a decor perspective, I was most impressed with the lighting. Very eclectic, yet purposeful light fixtures over the bar. The overall feeling when you step in is light, airy, modern, but substantial. We sat at the bar which is a show case in and of itself. Very sleek, very comfortable and afforded plenty of real estate. Our bartender was very knowledgeable about the brewery/restaurant, and engaged/interested in the overall True West product. He patiently answered our questions about the brewery model, various beer options brewed on site, food, and more. My SO tried 2 different beer options, and sampled a 3rd, and they were each wonderful in their own right. We shared a vegan flatbread (not touted as a vegan offering, but it was based on ingredients). Excellent flavor, especially with "day before" tomatoes, which we were kindly told are tomatoes slow roasted and chilled overnight. This flatbread option also had crispy kale scattered over the top. Just an all around great choice both in presentation and taste. We also shared the warm pretzel bread app which came with some pretty powerful grainy mustard. Also a great choice. We were disappointed with the "pub salad". There was no dressing of any type on the salad, and the combination was very odd. Greens topped with fried string onions (like the kind people put on that nasty green bean salad, although I'm sure these were handmade) surrounded by a clump of roasted peanuts on two sides (good, but nothing special - apparently roasted on site) and then wet, soggy, skinless, cold marinated apple slices. Very unappetizing in appearance and not really sure why they landed on this salad. It may be the salad intentionally had no dressing, but we asked for some and were provided with a small container of a house dressing which had no flavor. I felt like the dressing wasn't stirred ...and we got what floated to the top. We also shared a dessert, made of homemade little donuts and local Erickson's Ice Cream (made in nearby Stow/Maynard). We definitely appreciated the effort and uniqueness. There apparently is also space in the complex True West uses for events. This will be a contender for my son's graduation coming up this spring. True West is definitely worth a visit. read more

Had a wonderful meal last evening with two others at True West in West Acton Center. They were serving a King Salmon special which is so much better than Atlantic Salmon. I want to like this place as it is so close to home. But, bad experiences will have me seeking other first choices. Granted, the last two visits were during peak hours... near 7pm. Good(ish): - draft beer selection - simple menu is decent simple comfort food - low price Opportunity: - visit 1: we sat for more than 10 min without being addressed (no water, eye contact, etc), and inentionally ignored at the bar, whilst the bar tender was shouting at servers. It was uncomfortable, so we left. - visit 2: the second beer I ordered was a "short pour" in a small glass (small brandy type glass). I asked if the glass was correct when I received it and I was told yes, to later be told that it was wrong. I was offered a third beer, which I declined but was charged two "full pour" beers ($14). Furthermore, our simple "meal" (i.e. mac and cheese and grilled cheese) was served more than 50 min after appetizers. So we asked for it to go and got the eye roll. All the while, we were watching the manager on his phone and/ or watching the game on tv. He was seemingly not managing, which may be the primary cause of the symptoms we experienced. I hope this helps in your decision. UPDATE March 2017: so against our desires we decided to go back and we're pleasantly surprised. Seemingly new (?) attentive manager, great service and food. We had a great dinner here last night. The noise level seemed genuinely improved from our earlier visit, which was a nice surprise. Also, the menu had been updated and had a lot of appealing choices. A standout was the brussels sprout appetizer, which came to the table piping hot and featured a nice level of spice and perfectly cooked sprouts. We're not big beer drinkers, so I can't comment on the main event, but we had a glass of a nice Malbec. Our waitress was attentive, efficient, and extremely pleasant. Looking forward to more visits to True West--especially excited to try their trivia night on a Monday night soon (would love to know if registration in advance is necessary). read more

We went in to the new Speakeasy Saturday night. Lexi not only made great drinks, she handled the table service as well. The atmosphere was really cool. Music going, funky furniture just an overall great vibe. We had apps, wings and tots and they were delicious. We had 5 guests and we all enjoyed our dinners too. The service was great. I have been to True West about five times and have recommended it to lots of people based on the positive experiences I have generally had. I would give them 3 stars plus based on my past experience, but this experience was a one star. Lunch was definitely a disappointment. It was my wife's and my anniversary and our daughter's birthday. We drove by other lunch options to go to True West based on our past experiences. We sat outside on a beautiful sunny day and the ambiance was very pleasant. We ordered drinks to start and it took about 15 minutes for them to arrive in a nearly empty restaurant. Once the drinks arrived, and I had sipped my beer a couple of times, I noticed that my glass had a huge crack across most of the side that was facing away from me. Thankfully it didn't break in my hand or my mouth. Once I was finally able to get the server's attention, she apologized and went to get a replacement. The replacement arrived after about a 10 minute wait. When I sipped the new beer I realized that they had used a glass that had sanitizer remaining in it. Two strikes. When the two burgers for the kids and the salmon burgers for my wife and I arrived we realized that they had added and charged us $3 for a salad when the salmon burger already comes with greens on the side if you opt out of fries. The kid's burgers were ordered medium and both were delivered grey and very well done. The salmon was cooked well and tasted great. When the bill came, we also realized that we were charged $5 for lemonades for the kids when the kid's menu clearly states that lemonade is a $.50 charge for each tiny cup. Strike 4. They did remove the beer from the bill since I never received one that was drinkable. The server made sure to bring me both bills, I'm assuming so she would get tipped on the full amount. The server also had to make a point of telling me that the beer I was drinking was a sour and that I may not be familiar with the flavor versus sanitizer being in it. I know beer very well, had already drank part of another of the same beer (in a broken glass) and it was sanitizer. When my wife expressed all of the issues to the "person in charge" she said they would adjust the bill to remove the overcharges. My wife made it clear that the whole experience had failed from kitchen to bar -- and there was no further offer to do anything other than "I hope you come back". It was very apparent that their was no "adult supervision" in the restaurant and no one trained well enough or empowered enough to deliver any degree of appropriate customer service. If I'm going to pay $80 for a lunch for two kids and two adults, I expect someone to care about the experience I'm having. Based on this experience, I will stick to better options closer to home and will not return to True West or give any more gift cards as gifts to recommend the place. One last thing. The fact that I had to walk into the bar or download an app to my phone to see the beer list is an interesting concept, but annoying. I shouldn't need to give Untappd web traffic to see a beer list. read more

I'm a return customer and went in on Thursday 12/20 right towards the end of lunch service; everyone had sat down at once and the server Olivia was busy. So the bartender came over and grabbed our drink order. Olivia delivered the drinks and her service was impeccable from start to finish. She was polite, kind and despite how busy it was completely on top of everything! From little details to bringing a steak knife without asking to just being courteous and fun throughout. Really enjoyed my first visit to True West -- it won't be my last! Beer was excellent. They had 8 house brews on tap the night I went. Be sure to ask for a flight if you don't know what you want (pick 6 -- tho it's not on the menu). And they also had my favorite on tap, too (Be Hoppy) and my favorite bottled brew (Sculpin IPA). Food was great, too. Particularly enjoyed the fish tacos and the house pretzel roll (with mustard dipping sauce). Love the outdoor seating area, esp. with the recent warm weather. Place was hopping. As others have said, the food is adequate. Just that. They need a food leader to bring the kitchen up to the level of the bar. But the beer is great. I go for growler fills even when the place is mobbed and the bar takes care of me on the spot. My ratio at the moment is roughly 3 growler stops for every dine-in visit. Which is fine. For food, go during off-peak hours and get a table right away when the place isn't crazy busy and loud. I haven't tried all their brews yet, so my next trip will be for a beer flight. Then more growler action. My favorite thing about this place: in addition to their own beers, they have a bottled beer list which includes some intriguing offerings. But the real attention getter is: Genesee Cream Ale! In cans no less! These folks aren't fussy cork sniffers. They know a good thing when they taste it. Even if it's dirt cheap regional slosh with a cult following. I admire them for making room for Genny under the tent. That was not something they had to do. They did it because they know. The menu is diverse in selection and the food is impeccably seasoned so the flavors blend well with the overall dish. Their beer is top rated and I see why.
