If a TruGreen salesman comes to your door and tries to convince you to sign up, just don't. I signed up given the condition that the first couple visits were heavily discounted, and would include aerating, fertilizing, and overseeding. The salesman also promised that they would not kill the white clover in the lawn. I don't think they bothered following the note about the white clover. I asked what they were overseeding with, and they told me tall fescue. The invoice they left said it was winter rye. And it's not behaving like tall fescue. It grows crazy fast and doesn't match the color of the rest of the lawn. We were hoping that would all settle out once the new grass had matured, but it has been several months. At least winter rye is an annual and should die off in the summer. (I reckon it's not a good sign when the bright side is that you know that the grass planted by your lawn care team is guaranteed to die in a few months). The aeration crew got ready to work on the back yard, then told me they didn't think they could do any good there. I told them I didn't think I was being charged for the back yard. Later on when I called to cancel, I was told that I was being charged for the back yard. Internal communications are apparently not TruGreen's strong suit. Which is problematic in a company where different crews are showing up to perform each service. read more

Among the worst customer service experiences ever and a testament to why competition is good. May 8, 2020: called them and signed up for service. They took my money for a total of 6 visits. They were supposed to call the following week to set a time for the first visit. They didn't. I called a week later. They apologized profusely and told me someone would call the next day. They did, so we set a time for the first visit (of six, remember). They showed up on time and the guy did a good job. Then I heard nothing from them in June, July or August, so I called again on August 12 to ask when to expect them. "Oh, sorry, they'll call you tomorrow and set a time for next week." Of course, nothing. Like all businesses, they use horrendous telephone service to force you to their web-based "service," but the one thing you cannot do on the website is ... yep, you guessed it! SCHEDULE SERVICE!!!!!!! I'll have to call them again, get more excuses and run-around, and eventually I'll browbeat them into delivering the services we agreed to (or I'll call the attorney general's consumer fraud line). But this is why local services are far better. Of course, TruGreen buys up all the local competition. Which is why antitrust law is also good. These people suck, but they have no competition. read more

I wanted my yard aerated. When I called they convinced me to prepay for aeration and seeding, lawn fertizilation, and tree and shrub services for a cheaper price. I signed up in October. It's now almost January and all that's been done was a 5 minute tree and shrub service. I'm not even sure anything was really done since he was at my house for such a short time. The main service I wanted done - aerating the yard - was canceled 4 times on me. 4 times!! As a new customer this was horrible service and I had to cancel everything and ask for a refund. Never again will I hire these guys and I will tell everyone I know to never hire them. Absolutely horrendous service. read more

I was trying to find some care for my yard. I sent my contact and needs info to TruGreen. They called me early in the morning and woke me up. When i tried to explain and tried to arrange another time to call they hung up on me in mid-sentence. Obviously this is just some kind of call center run by unprofessional teenagers. After 9 months of service we are 5 stars with the companies service. I have read a lot of bad reviews on here due to numerous reasons that would drive me nuts. I paid for the service because obviously they did get me with the "introductory offer" $29 and promise to make my lawn the best on the block line as well. Here is what sold me: 1- cancel ANYTIME 2- keep coming back until " I AM SATISFIED" 3- guaranteed customer satisfaction and my lawn will look good 4- continued serviced because I like the technicians that come(courteous and friendly),i do get a friendly reminder the day before always, tech always knocks on my door(I have a ring video system all around so I can see what they are doing) 5-I am left with a statement of what was applied, if I am home he'll explain to me what I need to do if anything. 6-Grass is healthy as I ever have seen and it's one of the best grasses on the block with all weeds gone after 9 months. Now I had quite a few spots growing with weeds in the beginning and also found grubs in spring growing in the dirt. I had them come back and spray every week if some Of those weeds would die and they would keep Coming no questions asked until I was satisfied and that really helped win me over and not be annoyed to much by the price( eventually it goes up ).I take pride in my lawn and I do my own maintenance on my lawn,so I just say great job True Green in doing what you say would do. What I don't like: 1-price could be a bit lower I think than the $69 i pay every time they come out which is believe is 6-8 weeks 2- you do have to put your water timer back on every other day for 15 minute cycle, when the applied fertilizer I do keep it on a every day cycle for 5 -7 days. (I use to conserve more water before which is why I had weeds infection my lawn, but once they declared the drought over my lawn needed help lol. I can honestly recommend them as they did help me and I have not experienced any issues I see on this app or i would be upset also. read more

i live in Upland and urge you never use this company. They dont own up to poor business practices. They charged me for services not rendered only because i caught it on our cameras. They parked in front of our home but never got out to perform the work. They said Sorry and that was that. There are better honest companies who will earn your business . I was so excited decided to have true green come out and help me with my lawn services. I made the 1st initial call and the cells rap went from $1500 down to $900 dollars. I was charged for my 1st visits But was not explained what was needed for my lawn. I called and they told me that I would have somebody call me back in 2 days never received a call back I called back and they told me there is nothing that they could do and their services is whatever they thought needed to be and they would charge accordingly.. Didn't make sense I asked to talk to a supervisor they said I would get a call back never received a call back in the meantime had a nether true green truck arrived at my house and now was spraying my trees and bushes which I never even asked for that services and was but that service is Emma's charged another $89.. I called customer service again got a very professional young lady however she must have been new also because she "d me a price for a $501 by the time I was finished with the phone call an hour later it was now backup to $1600 I said no you" d me 501 and now why is it so much she said she was sorry but she didn't realize that each package was an additional price I told her to cancel everything and she told me she was not able to do that So I had to give my bank involved and have them put a stop payment on everything from true green green. This is a shame because I called 4 times and wanted to give this company my money and it didn't seem like I was important or that it even even mattered. The company is the WORST. Do not use them. The people who work for them are nice, but the company has the worst business practices. Try to sell you everything. Even if you say no, they still send their technicians to do the work without authorization and then leave you with an invoice. This has happened to me over and over and I have tried to cancel their services so many times. I was disappointed in their services and asked for a supervisor to come take a look at my lawn, and they were not willing to come out. So I filed a dispute with my credit card company. They asked if a manager could call me, I said sure but it was a little late for that. No manager ever called. I cancelled my service on Friday, the day they were supposed to show up .... I called them after seeing their commercial. My yard was looking pretty horrible and I figured maybe they could bring it back to life. My gardener at the time is one of those that cuts, cleans and leaves. they could care less how the grass looks. So I gave trugreen a call and had them come out. Their sales guy said that they can make my lawn the best on the block. It was already may when I had called them so I was only obligated for 7 months to use the service so I figured what the hell, its worth a try. I'll tell you what, my yard looked worse after the 7 months then it did before I hired them. I dont know what their process was other then to fertilize the shit out of my lawn every other month. I had set the sprinkers to the schedule they suggested and that didnt help. It was a waste of money. Be warned, they will automatically renew your subscription at the end of the year unless you call them to cancel. I cancelled their ass as close to the end of the year as possible. When I called to cancel the guy on the phone said "we recommend you do a full year of treatments to see the benefit". Yeah, sure. your sales rep never said that so this was obviously an attempt to trick me into renewing. You gotta get up really early in the morning to trick me. read more

What a shame. TruGreen used to be a great service years ago. We recently had them for our current home and it took about 3 months for them to kill our grass. It never came back until I took over the care myself. The sales manager came out to inspect it before they would clear such a large refund. (We prepaid for lawn care and tree and shrub for the entire year). He agreed indeed that the grass had been killed by their treatments, apologized, and offered to give us a free fertilizer service to see if that would help. We politely said no. Their tree and shrub service is no better. We were told they use safe and organic options by the sales rep. After they came, I noticed on their service slip they spray pesticides that can actually kill bees and other beneficial insects we need for pollinating. Petroleum based horticulture oils, and bifenthrin are definitely NOT good options, especially when sprayed during times when pollinators are out. They have a very generic approach to California lawn and shrub care. Instead of considering the types of grass or shrubs that are growing that may be unique to each home, they blindly spray and fertilize assuming each lawn is the same. This approach often kills many shrubs and lawns like it did with ours. Terrible service, terrible results. Not sure how they're still in business read more

So far, I'm not at all happy with TruGreen. Not a great experience. They sell well, promise all sorts of things, but nothing is true. I was sold the "TruGreen Promise", your lawn will look like this.....not so. It's been 2 months, lawn headed in the wrong direction, clearly. They promised in the fertilizing program that our plants would be sprouting and blooming like crazy. No difference in my opinion. Same. Today I called and left a complaint with their 800 number and I texted my local service rep who has skirted my complaints and has not followed up or done any of the things he promised. He promised if my lawn and yard were not improved he would stop by himself and make sure all the work was done right to get my yard on track. These guys are great at selling and sending out bills. As far as maintaining the lawn to look like the picture they show you when they sell you the service, they can't deliver even if they wanted to. The salesman came to our door showed us a picture of what our lawn will look like if we hire them and we went for it. Never saw the salesman again but saw many different trucks come up and try to make our lawn better but it ended up looking worse then we first hired them. Very disorganized. Different guy almost every service period. Trying various things at $49 each visit. A real hard closing sales organization that can't deliver the product the matter how hard they try, And they will try time after time and charge for each failed attempt. read more

TruGreen Lawn Care is company is the worst when it comes to communication. 1. I requested MSDS sheets on the fertilizer and weed control chemicals they were going to use on my lawn before they performed a service. No one ever contacted me or sent me the MSDS sheets. Even though I was told no problem they would email me the MSDS sheets 2. My back yard gates are locked. So I requested the service technician call me before they arrive so I could unlock the gates. I work from home! 3. The service technician came to my home without scheduling an appointment and applied fertilizer and weed chemicals on my front lawn never did the back lawn. Left a notice on my front door but never complete service on the back lawn. 4. I was told I would only be charged $29.95 for the first visit and $60 for the next 3 visits total about $250 if I provided a credit card, which I did. But when I checked my credit card account Trugreen charged my credit card for the entire year service $311.27 5. Due to the lack of communication. Applying chemicals to my property without providing MSDS sheets I called Trugreen and canceled my service before your technician came to me home. But he still came without my approval and applied the chemicals. 6. I contacted my credit card company and filed a dispute in the amount of $311.27 read more

The absolute worst service I have ever experienced from a company. I have emailed multiple times with no response. Called twice and assured an actual manager would come out and they would give me a half priced service, and a regular technician showed up after and charged full price. Have tried to cancel twice with no success. Their lawn service has not helped at all, and in fact killed part of the new sod I put down. Weeds are still terrible and there is not communication between customer service and technicians. read more

We hired TruGreen for our lawn and tree and shrub service when we moved to our new home 5 years ago. After several years of the lawn service our lawn looked worse than it had when we moved in having many brown spots and a ton of weeds. Were they actually servicing the lawn? One day while I was home, I saw the technician pull up, come to the front door to put the invoice on the door, and then went to back to his car without even spraying the lawn. He sat there for 10 mins and then drove away. Needless to say, I cancelled that portion of the service that day. I kept the tree and shrub service until recently. As mentioned by another reviewer, the company has the worst business practices. They are supposed to notify your prior to date of service. I would not get notifications and yet the service technicians arrived and did the work leaving the invoice. This has happened several times. I called to let them know I need a call first and they assured me that they would call prior to next visit. Then, in December, while we were out of the country on vacation, they came 2 times in one week (apparently that time of year the trees and shrubs get two different treatments for the winter months). I never received a call for either service. Upon my return from vacation, I called and cancelled my service. They are telling me that they did call but my voicemail was either full or that my phone does not accept their calls. I rarely get voicemails and I get many calls from others with no issues. Funny, as I was talking a supervisor on Friday and she was relaying this information, the TruGreen technician arrives at my house, does his service and leaves the invoice at my door. I ask the supervisor why the technicians are still coming to my house when I cancelled my service back in January. She asks me to check name and address on the invoice and, low and behold, it's my neighbors name and address. So, I get the service and my neighbor gets billed! I am furious! They came on Monday supposing to remove the weeds and I found my well established trees .... fir, persimmon and an oriental flowering tree TOTALLY crisp! I don't know what they applied but I have never ever seen this before. Being a customer for a long time (not always happy with the service) I think this is the last I will use them. Tru Green is the worst service that anyone could have. The technician over fertilized my grass and killed much of it. Upon contact with tru green they would not put me in touch with a supervisor. They first said they would send out someone to put on "revive". They did this service but it didn't help. I called again and they still wouldn't put me in touch with a supervisor. Instead they said that they would send out a technician to evaluate my grass. They wouldn't set a time so that I could be home when they come out. They would not put me in touch with a supervisor as they said there policy is to send the technician out first. After 6 weeks I have still not been able to get to a supervisor. When they over fertilized my grass, I had to water heavily to try and dilute the chemicals. (causing me an excessively high water bill). This is the second time they over fertilized my lawn. The first time was not as bad. One area did have to be reseeded which they did only because I demanded they do so. The technician kept telling me to just water heavily and it would come back. I should have known when I agreed to their service that I was in for a bad ride. Along with all of my troubles trying to get to a supervisor they kept scheduling my original service. I had to keep calling to tell them not to put any more chemicals on my lawn. Had I not kept calling they would have allowed themselves to just keep coming on my property without my permission. Side note: my neighbor has their service and their technician over fertilized their lawn about a year ago. I don't know what they went through but their lawn has mostly recovered but it does not look as lush as it used to. read more

I have canceled by phone and by email several times since mid-2021 and even had an email confirmation that the services were canceled, but they still supposedly sent a person to perform lawn service a week ago??? There were no signs on my lawn, nor was a summary receipt left, but the app and an email claim that a guy came onto my property without permission. I am livid. My bill is ready? I am not paying for a service I canceled. You do not have permission to have anyone from TruGreen set foot on my property. I reported TruGreen to the BBB, and now I hear nothing from you. Also, I got a sales call yesterday asking me if I want to restart the services. How can the services be restarted if they never ceased in the first place? It's unbelievable! I told the caller what a horrible company he works for due to the complete lack of respect and dishonorable practices. You need to fix this, TruGreen. I have a sign on my gate stating to stay out or I will prosecute. That is absolutely ridiculous that I feel that violated. If I could give a zero, I would. I just joined a Facebook group of people like me who have had horrible experiences with with TruGreen as well. I am getting private messages from the members who have had the exact same things happen to them in their hometowns. I am floored that you continue to screw people over on the daily. I paid them on line for my January service and they applied the payment to another account. After badgering me and my bank for 10 days, they finally found their error but did not call to tell me nor did they call to apologize. This was an absolute joke. We contracted the company for 6 months and paid in advance for insect and mosquito services. They showed up for the first service when we were gone without our knowledge and the tech hopped the gate and treated the front yard only and they said it was a completed service. After numerous calls they agreed to complete the first service and didnt show for their scheduled appointment. I then called to cancel service and ask for a complete refund. They said they will refund all except the service they never completed. So im disputing with my credit card carrier now. Biggest pile of junk service I have EVER experienced. I signed up and prepaid a year in advance. The lawn never came back to life despite ample watering, and the guys who came out wouldn't even reseed. I finally purchased the seeds myself and gave the bag to the guy when he came back. He did a halfassed job and left pissed. I then called Trugreen and said, PLEASE call me before you renew the service as I would like to see how it develops before I decide to keep the subscription. I asked them three times if that note in the system would be enough, and that I wouldn't have to worry about the subscription carrying over into a new year before talking with me. Of course come the new year I get a bill for Lawn Service, even though when the guy came out he said it was prepaid and that this was the last service. Nevermind the fact that their service doesn't do ANYTHING to your lawn. It's borderline fraudulent and I second the guys here who wish they could give them 0 stars. It's really THAT bad. These guys also keep calling to sell you all kinds of other ridiculous services such as their "mosquito package". The guy who called me was beyond pushy and wouldn't take no for an answer. They call you in the middle of the day at the worst possible time, and don't respect your wish to get off the phone and not have future unsolicited phone calls from them. Their services do NOTHING. Do NOT sign up. Here in California we had really heavy rain in the beginning of 2017, and all lawns everywhere were green and lush. Of course Trugreen seizes the opportunity to drive around to all their serviced properties and put up their ugly "TRUGREEN" sign on people's lawns, as if they somehow had anything to do with the fact that the heavy rainfall made people's lawns green and healthy. I want to say good things about TruGreen, because the associates, on the whole have been decent. But I was pretty upset when they got my bill wrong. When I cancelled, they said I was all paid up. Later we get a bill, so I think it's a mistake. Within months I get a letter from a collection agency. Now this makes me mad because I have excellent credit. When I call, it seems that it's a "collections group" within the company. It's good because my credit is not effected. It's bad because I don't like to be scared into paying for something I thought was all taken care of. We ultimately canceled earlier, not because of their technicians who were fine, but because I was not sure about all the chemicals. I am no expert in "most environmental ways to care for your lawn," but I've researched enough to know some of what they use may not be so environmentally friendly. If I could give TruGreen "0" I would because they are not even worth "1" rating. Last year, they completely killed our grass. We prepaid for weed control early in the spring for the entire year and they failed to provide service that we paid for. I've never seen so many weeds on our lawn not to mention they killed our grass. I called TruGreen numerous times with no results. The manager was never available and never returned any of my phone calls. The district manager never returned any of my phone calls either. I disputed the charges with my credit card because I couldn't resolve this problem with TruGreen. TruGreen killed my grass and let the weeds take over my lawn and now they are threatening me with collections. read more

Merrick is a great tech, he explains everything, his knowledge is amazing. Our grass looks so much better since we started the service. I do have to say when i had the service in the late 90's it worked faster, and made the lawn thick and green. Different house, different type of grass could be why. We had Ernie, obviously a salesman, come out and tell us that, whatever else, they would definitely get rid of our clover and crabgrass. Additionally, if we bought the tree service, which we did, he guaranteed fruit on our avocado tree. Well, we bought both grass and tree service---the avocado did NOT fruit nor was the clover gone until we did it ourselves!!! Now, they've come out with a new scheme: how to eradicate these Asian tiger mosquitoes, which even the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito control says there is no solution for!!! Another marketing ploy for sure! It will kill the adults, but not the eggs. Additionally, it also kills any flying insects, including the good ones like lady bugs, butterflies and bees. No way, TruGreen! read more
