I wanted to love this place. I really did. I was so looking forward to coming here after always walking past and hearing good music and a seemingly (but apparently deceptive) fun ambiance. I was really let down. I'm used to being let down because I date in Los Angeles but this was a different type of disappointment. We'll start with the bouncer. He has zero people or social skills and was incredibly rude. He didn't even ID me. Which is half of his job. And I'm way under 35 so that was just a slap in the face and a reminder I'm overdue for Botox. He did however yell at my guy friend for standing up while talking to me. Priorities amirite? Now the server. I was talking and joking around w my friends about a dead hitman. Never said I was a hitman, knew a hitman or was fixin to hire one. It was all joking. The server overheard and says that I am threatening his life and he will not serve me and he feels threatened by me. 1) I'm a lawyer so I'm used to people misconstruing my words but this was just egregious. 2) I am 5'2 and 100 pounds and he was twice my size. He was rude to me all night and did not acknowledge that I was there. Horrible horrible experience. Despite this being the closest bar walking distance from my place, I will never return or bring any of my friends from out of town here. I am so happy this place survived the Pandemic! They opened back up a couple of days ago after being closed for 14 months. I live a block away and I have been there several times over the years. It is a great neighborhood bar. It is low key. They have strong drinks and are reasonably priced. The music is always great and the service has always been excellent. Went in on Halloween. I understand it's busy so we waited. Now I'm with two Asian friends. Waited patiently for over 20 mins. Being skipped over many times but still waiting understanding it's busy. When my friend was tired of waiting I got in front of her. Now me being white got service immediately, when I asked bartender his name he refused to give it to me. Wow. I've been coming here with my other half for nearly 20 years now- whenever we were on this side of the hill (we live in the valley). We came in last saturday about 530--there were two guys behind the bar. One was delivering drinks to customers at the other end of the bar that he made at the main station...the other guy was emptying the dishwasher, moving glasses into the cooler and not even establishing eye contact with me. Nothing. I was invisible. In a gay bar that for many years has created a space where the 'seasoned' gays could come, relax and get a good drink. This guy kept doing his thing...ignoring me. Eventually, he came to the station and stood their and mumbled something to me. I asked- 'Are you here to wait on me?' he said yes. I ordered the drinks- two vodka 7's for 18 bucks. BTW, there is no happy hours on the weekends. Had my other half not been in the washroom, I wouldn't have stayed there. Shitty service man. I put the two bucks in my pocket. Won't put a dent in your tips for the month tho. If I wanted to be invisible, I'd attend a GOP event. This guy is WAY too comfortable working there. read more

Brandon C. wrote "Trunks is a dirty old man bar" and I really don't know that I can say or write anything that explains it better than that one sentence so eloquently expresses in seven words. I can walk from one end of West Hollywood to the other and be very comfortable, but I'm almost certain to get leered at by whomever's out front at trunks in a way that makes me feel like running down the sidewalk calling out, "I need an adult! I need an adult!". I'm sure your panel van is lovely, and while a lollipop does sound delicious and tempting, I think I'll just sprint in the opposite direction for a little bit, mmmkay thanks. I keep hearing how drinks are so cheap here, but have to take people's word for it. The only two times I went was at a friend's insistence, and I was so hesitant to go that they needed to bribe me by paying for the drinks to get me in the door. I'm kind of happy this place exists, because it keeps the creepers in one small area and out of the good places I like to frequent. That being said, if you like the dive bar feel, if you like shooting pool, or if you're in a committed monogamous relationship and you'd like the be in the one venue that offers the least temptation in the neighborhood, this is your place. Thanks Yelp for noticing that I'm a regular here after two check-ins. As a matter of fact, I should be the duke! I can't remember how many times I've stepped into this place (and stepped out completely ready to take over the world...or so it seemed). Trunks is conveniently located next to the rest of the gay nightlife in West Hollywood and conveniently place at the start of all my adventures in this part of town. The clientele can be a very odd mix. While predominantly a nest for older men, it is increasingly popular with the younger asian crowd, with most gather in the billiard area at the back of the bar. Don't even try to play a game here if you've only held the pool stick fewer than ten times before in your life. These guys always have some serious unofficial billiard tournament going on. People aside, the main attraction of this bar are the drinks. The bartenders can make really mean drinks, so mean that you wonder when they're going to start pouring the soda water into your vodka soda mix. It's great to know that the workers here are more interested in emptying the liquor bottle than emptying your wallet. With around 4 to 5 bucks a mixed drink, emptying anyone's wallet can be a tough job...so down that Patron shot and buy everyone a round. One of the most memorable moments of my life...got denied entry into Trunks at 1 due to my balance impairment. Yup... Quick note: Trunks can be enjoyable on weeknights when it's less crowded. I'd pretty sum up Trunks as being a typical on the strip WeHo dive bar having a 95% gay clientele with the remaining 5% either self-delusional or flat out liars. It's rather well known for its earlier crowd attracted by high octane as well a cheaper drinks offering an opportunity to get a little liquored up before proceeding out on the town where drinks are pricier and made with a less than generous pour. It's clean, well kept, has a decent enough décor and atmosphere about it with the younger crowd either standing, modeling, conversing or playing pool while the older, meaning anyone over 40 or to some degree anyone over 30, generally seated at the bar. I came here recently with my best friend during Pride Week! I love the music they play (pop and top 100-ish lol, throwbacks) and I appreciate that there isn't a cover charge! We got in line around 10:30 pm on a Friday night and it was LIT. The line moved quickly and the place was stacked! Overall, my first visit here was amazing! Everyone we met was super friendly, and I can't wait to come back! -2 stars due to cleanliness in the bar in general and especially the bathrooms. One of my favorite low key bars in West Hollywood. It's a place where you could just walk in for a nice cold beer any time of the day. Or have a fun wild night out with friends. Not your typical West Hollywood bar/club. This place is more of a mellow dive bar feel where everyone seems to know each other. Another version of the cheers bar, but gay. Perfect for an afternoon of day drinking, happy hour or a night out. It is a big lore mellow during the day, but give it the weekend and evening, this place does get pretty crowded. Great for drinks as they are not crazy priced as the abbey. The crowd is more mellow, people who wants a good buzzed before heading to all the other bars. It's a neighborhood bar without the stuffy fussy scene. They have a pool table, I believe it's moved in the evening as that area tends to turn into a mini dance floor. Patio area can get pretty crowded but it's great for people watching. Highly recommend this place if you want great cheap drinks without the fussy West Hollywood attitude. read more

I really enjoy this bar. One of the few places on this strip in WeHo that couple the Dive Bar ideologies with being a little bit trendy. It's very chill during the day, as most bars are, and there is usually an older crowd, which I appreciate. During the evening, there is usually a good sized crowd. Sometimes it can be hard to walk in because it's so crowded and for some reason everyone gathers at the front of the bar. It's not a big place so that can be a bit frustrating. It is very fun, great music, pool table, sexy bartenders and good times with friends. Myself and a group of friends came here while out on the town. Club and bar hopping led us to this less crowded little bar. It's very clean inside, but the decor is a bit dated. It reminded me of "Cheers." We just needed the patrons to yell: "Norm!!!" There are plenty of places to sit, which is hard to come by in clubs in this area. The crowd is mixed in every sense of the word. Gay, straight, mature, younger, multicultural. Trunks is a pit stop. Not many people beside ourselves stayed several hours. Revolving clientele is a good thing considering how busy it gets here. The drinks are well priced and served by friendly, tip-worthy bartenders.
