Sometimes you've just gotta go to an L. A. OG, and you don't get more OG than Barney's in West Hollywood. This ultimate roadhouse on the final stretch of the original Route 66 is so deeply enshrined in Los Angeles lore that almost everyone in town's been there at least once, while almost everyone everywhere else has heard of it. And to its credit, Barney's has evolved in the decades I've lived in town, becoming much less of a dirty dive and really improving their game in the kitchen, which used to put out really sub-par grub. Nowadays, the kitchen is forging far better food and presenting it in a style far closer to what you see in similar diner-style restaurants in the area. Fries served in little fry baskets is just one example of them upping the ante. Service is a pleasing and appropriate mix of West Hollywood punk with well-trained hospitality, and bartenders like Victoria (on duty during my time there today) deftly balance local attitude with universal charm, taking care of you exactly as you need while maintaining a rapport that's down to Earth and genuinely friendly rather than being corporately crafted. I went against all my born-and-raised New Yorker instincts by ordering a pizza for dinner. Not just an LA pizza, but an LA BAR pizza! And you know what? It was really good. I opted for the pie called Johnnie's Fave, featuring mushrooms, jalapeños, cilantro and (usually) pepperoni that I replaced with sausage. The amply portioned 10" pizza is built on good-quality dough that's been properly proofed, plumping up at the edges in the oven while crisping nicely towards the center. The mozzarella melts well and offers good flavor without becoming greasy, while the sausage and veggies are all fresh, tasty and satisfying. The pizza is accompanied by a trio of condiments served in old-fashioned paper ramekins: crushed red pepper, Parmesan cheese, and creamy Ranch Dressing. While I'd never dip the heart of the pizza, I fully embraced the bar pie experience by dipping my crust, and I must say the cool, fresh Ranch Dressing was a really enjoyable indulgence. There wasn't much of a crowd this Sunday afternoon, a fact that Victoria chalked up to people taking a break between the end of World Cup and the start of College Football in a few weeks. But that just made it easier for me to slide into a seat at the bar, tip back a few cocktails, and enjoy a surprisingly good pizza on a Sunday afternoon. I mean, Barney's has always been a reliable place to get your drink on, but it's nice to know it's finally become an equally reliable place to eat a very decent meal. read more

Came on a karaoke night just before they started at 10pm. There was no line when we came, but a long line formed shortly after. Karaoke was every Wednesdays and Sundays from 10pm to 1am. They had Trivia nights on Tuesday at 9pm. Happy Hours appeared to be from Mondays through Fridays from 4pm to 7pm. They don't skimp out on the liquor. The bartenders were nice. We put our names in the karaoke pool when it opened at 10pm. We were like the 5th on the list. We kept waiting near the karaoke area for our turn. People kept going up to sing. When it became 11:30pm we went up to the karaoke host and asked what was going on. He told us we were 9th in line. Saw on his screening that people who sang all tipped him $10 to $20. The latest is security just stood there while some kid got beat to a pulp which sounds right. I have a guard card and nothing stops us from calling the cops so there's that. Idk what is up with security team here. Well I do actually. You slip them stuff and you can pass the line it's one of those. It is WeHo after all. Same goes for karaoke nights with the DJ. If you wanna play pool in the area you'd have better luck driving to Crenshaw than here. Even if you get the table expect everyone to act totally surprised at their table when your pool stick gets in their face. This will happen at all three pool tables it's just inescapable. Outside the patio is nice I'll say. Most of my entertainment comes from here. Not from the TVs but just observing who comes here and the door process. You will learn a lot about WeHo just by stationing yourself at the patio bar watching the entry process. This is my first Yelp review for Barney's Beanery for any of their locations (been to Pasadena and Redondo Beach as well), but West Hollywood is the one I've been to the most and have had so much fun there over the years. It's a loud and boisterous place, but always fun. I love that it hasn't changed much over the years, the paper menu, the decor, the collage tables. On this day, I tried their BLAT (BLT with avocado) and it was delicious. There is a new Barney's sauce, which is a little spicy, but I like it. Plus the fries have some cajun spice, similar to Five Guys. Son still favors Five Guys fries and did not really like the Barney's sauce on his burger, but I liked it. Service was fine, I've never had problems with service at Barney's. Other customers is a different story, but it is a bar after all. read more

I know it's an iconic spot but the food isn't great, the beer selection could be better and I feel like they need better screens to show the games Especially having gone there for a World Cup game. White guy serving at the bar on Sunday night refuses to give my friends and I water because he claims we "just got there and have to order something" when we were there for literally 3 hours and spent over $70 on our tab earlier in the night. So, after going back and fourth, I called him weird for accusing us of lying and refusing to serve us water, then he goes off on us... If you live in LA then you know about Barney's. I visited for the first time a few weeks ago with my friends to grab a bite, drinks, and play some pool. The space is great, has a really cool vibe to it. They have 3 pool tables, basketball, shuffleboard, air hockey, foosball, and an arcade machine. Ample seating as well. The food was actually really good and exceeded our expectations. Drinks are good as well. Wait staff aren't super friendly but security and bartenders are nice. Overall it's a nice place to come by and hang out with friends. Lively, crowded, and loud on a Saturday night but if that's what you're looking for - Barney's is the place to be! read more

However, this location exceeds all the other locations. I couldn't point my finger as to why, but I can see CLEARLY why. The service is great, as well as the food! I've come before and usually only ordered drinks since they have a great selection on tap! However, this past Friday night, I decided to come here after work with some coworkers; we opted for appetizers and drinks! We were seated at a booth by the hostess and greeted by our lovely server named Morgan! She was attentive to my table and recommended some food items. The place is pretty spacious, maybe bigger than what I remembered. They had a screen projector that was playing the NBA game, they had a pool table, and some cool arcade games located in the back next to the restrooms. We were in the area late on Thursday night, so we decided to stop by Barney's Beanery at around 10:30pm. I've been to the location in Santa Monica many times, but I'd always wanted to check out the original historic location. People were sitting and leaving tables constantly throughout the night so I don't imagine you would ever have to wait too long on a Thursday at least. The crowd is definitely on the younger side and I'm 36, but I felt like a senior citizen, older by everyone by at least 10 years lol. It's a packed, loud, rowdy type of place with music blasting...not really my thing anymore but it definitely reminded me of the places I would to go in my twenties. The food was just ok... and it seemed like we were the only ones that ordered anything more than an appetizer. We ordered the mozzarella sticks, nachos with chicken, and carne asada fajitas. The only thing I really liked were the mozzarella sticks, and if I ever do come back here at such a late hour, I would probably stick to items from the appetizers menu. Service was a little slow to get started, but once we started ordering food and drinks, the server would come by regularly to check up on us. The server was definitely overwhelmed with people constantly flagging her down, but she remained friendly and I never got any sass from her so job well done. Jim Morrison, uh, let's not go there.... This place is one of West Hollywood's true landmarks that has lots of celebrity stories. Barney's Beanery has lots of history itself, as the original owner would give food away to those he felt sorry for, or he would get your license place in return. You just gotta look around and scope the place out. Ask the server about the history, for real. Some everyday regulars who sit at the bar even told me a few things as well. I came here hungry so I got the Dagwood, which was on the lunch specials menu. Came with fries. I asked the server for a small version of their famous chili and she added it to the order. The Dagwood burger was great as it had bacon and a fried egg on it. Wish I had gotten one of their loaded fries options but wasn't ready to pay $18 for it. Maybe next time! Their chili also has variations like hotter versions. Again, maybe next time. Goes without saying I want to come back sometime. Barney's Beanery is just off Santa Monica Boulevard (Route 66). It also celebrates its status on the Mother Road. While I understand some people would get intimidated on the always busy SMB, I would highly recommend checking this place out! As far as parking, they do have a private lot in the back, but very limited. Just park at the garage a couple blocks down on Kings. Was walking down the street and just stumbled upon this place. Was greeted with smiles and having the door held open for my boy friend and I. We started off with the mac and cheese wedges. Substituted ranch for the marinara. They were everything I was thinking they would be. Crispy batter, not oily. The macaroni tasted perfect. 100% will get again. For our meals I got the Nashvile Spicy Chicken Sandwhich and my boy friend got the Classic Club Sandwhich. Both with the steak fries. We traded quarters of eachothers sandwiches to be able to taste them both. The chicken sandwhich was good. I ordered a side of the Chipotle mayo to dip the fries in, it came in handy with the sandwhich as well. It was a better quality version of what you'd get at a fast food that's for sure. The Club was a standard classic. I'm a saucy girl, so I put the Chipotle mayo on it as well. To end the meal we got the churro waffle dessert with a cup of coffee. The coffee was warm but still drinkable. And I thought the waffle would have had more of a cinnamon churro vibe to it. The ice cream came with chunks of ice in it, not what you'd usually expect. Overall the place was inviting, staff was friendly and looked like they enjoyed being there. We left full and with some to enjoy later. I feel like the food is worth about $3-$5 cheaper then it is. A bit of warning. I usually go to the three Barney's in L.A. Westwood, West Hollywood and the Pasadena locations. Today I came into the West Hollywood location after 1:30 p.m. I usually order one of the best Onion Soups in L.A. to start off, then I will select one of the other good items they have on there menu. So after my soup I order today the chili cheeseburger. I knew there would be a problem after getting the order way after 15 minutes yes they were busy today but still no reason to get Chili,burger and fry cold. Otherwise everything else was very good the staff was extra nice. The ambiance was great except for one loud mouth drunk. I don't review a lot because I worked at bars for a long time and I always thought these reviews could be extremely unfair. I sat at the bar last night for a pint and my nostrils are still burning the next day from the amount of mold at the bar. I am only writing this so management sees and can get this handled. It is very very bad. I feel bad for the bartenders who have to work through this. Everything else is as good as expected. Lively group of patrons, quick bartenders. But you have to do something about the mold at the bar. It's not safe for your employees or patrons. Like I said I worked at bars for a long time, add it to the closing duties to set up floor fans under the bar overnight to dry it out, do a deep clean - there is definitely something to be done. Went tonight with some castmates and had a wonderful time! The doorman and security guard were very friendly, which is kind of rare in La in my experience. Our server, Johnny, was tops! Our group of 4 was originally sitting at a tiny booth and we had one more person show up (who was awkwardly sitting in the booth behind us since there was no room at our table). I inquired about possibly getting a bigger table, but the joint was pretty packed so it was like a no worries moment. But Johnny saved the day by politely asking a couple who was at the one bigger table if they would switch and they obliged! (Yassss to nice forking people). My only gripe is that it was deafeningly loud inside...the speakers were peaking so hard...but overall, would 100% go back! We love coming here to watch the rainfall outside while sitting in a nice cozy booth and playing some pool. We always get there right when they open to get our favorite booth. Brittany started us off and then Madeline took care of us the rest of the day. Excellent service. I was famished so decided to try one of their pizzas and the pepperoni was delicious.
