Good thing we ordered a lot, because the portions are on the small side -- some bordering on tiny. The dressing for the oakleaf salad was so garlic-ky and as garlic lovers, we are on a mission to recreate it. The sauce for the roasted cauliflower was the MVP of the whole dinner. The sauce for the carrots (undercooked and "old"), the branzino (over), the hamachi crudo (overpriced), and charsiu brisket were all too salty, too strong, and felt like something was missing - thus leaving each of those dishes feeling mid. The food was overall good but when you get the check and relate it back to the price, portion size, and value, the math just doesn't math. While in San Diego for the day and arriving around dinner time ,we searched for a good dinner spot and came across Trust. We arrived a bit after 5 pm and we decided to sit at the bar. Right after seating down we saw that they have a 2025 Michelin recipient. We started with some happy hour cocktails, I ordered a cosmopolitan and my husband had the Manhattan. Then we ordered the food options from happy hour menu which were the smash burger and the mushroom mac and cheese. The smash burger was cooked to perfection and was nice and juicy. The Mac and cheese was phenomenal so much flavor and it comes with a bone marrow in the middle of it served in a steaming little cast iron. Now to our entree's we went with the braised oxtail raviolini and the char siu glazed brisket. Let me just say both of those dishes were amazing. The brisket has a combination of flavors nutty, smoky,sweet and acidy and all of the flavors are so good. The brisket is nice and tender so delicious. The raviolini is also amazing let me just say we ordered bread after finishing it so we can clean the sauce off the plate! It was that good. We finally ended our meal with a delicious dessert with a figgy pudding that is served with delicious taffy and ice cream.Our server and bartender Anthony was great in explaining all of the different dishes and he was very attentive. Trust is FABULOUS! First I want to specifically mention our service, which was 11/10. We interacted with two wonderful hostesses and our server and a couple of bussers. They all provided top tier service at a level that would be expected for the highest end of dining experiences. Bravo! Ambiance is lovely. We have absolutely loved the other Brad Wise restaurants we have tried but were told you have to try Trust, their original location. I had totally forgotten we were there 9 years earlier too!! Sadly it was really disappointing. None of our dishes were hot. We asked if the carrots should have been hot and our waiter was like not really but kind of. That was the one dish they redid. They were sooo much better. Really brought out the taste. Honestly none of them were hot, mainly luke warm. The was the agnolotti, the oxtail ravioli, the brisket. Our waiter never checked back on us if we liked the dishes. The hush puppies were tasty but also not hot. Our empty drink glasses sat without being cleared for too long. I was with my mom and a couple of her friends and we wanted to go somewhere for breakfast. This place was fantastic! The ambiance was nice with both indoor and outdoor seating. The view looking outside was enjoyable, but most importantly the food was enjoyable. I had the sticky bun, which is what the restaurant is known for. It's like a huge cinnamon roll with ice cream on top and the flavor is different each week. It was so warm and flavorful. I shared it with my mom. It was absolutely delicious! I also tried her rolled tacos with eggs and that was delicious too. The lemongrass limeade I had was also very refreshing. The service was great too! Reservations is a must, otherwise good luck waiting on a table before dinner is served. Since the eatery is at the ground floor of an apartment complex on the corner, there's only street parking. So be prepared to walk awhile to get to Trust. Although the service was slow, (it took at least 30+ min from time of order to food on table), the dishes were worth it. Their famous sticky buns were over the top sweet. The flavor, which changes frequently, was citrus with chunks of tangerine. Truly satisfies any sweet tooth cravings. I tried the Korean fried rice with eggs. Very flavorful, just wished it was a bit spicier. My friend asked for the hamburger with an over easy egg. Unfortunately, they got the order wrong . At least they compensated by remaking her order. Overall, I'd recommend this place for a yummy brunch, especially since they change the menu frequently. Maybe next time, I'll try their dinner. I've been to Trust a number of times over the years. I went again recently and ordered pancakes this time which came with "syrup" (not real maple syrup, the corn syrup kind). I asked if they had real maple syrup and was told no, that the manufactured syrup is all they had available. Not everyone will be deterred by that, I just find it odd that as a more elevated, ingredient-focused, chef-driven restaurant (and the prices reflect this) that they don't have real maple syrup. I can't recall if they did offer the real stuff before or not, but in either case, I think this is an area of opportunity for the ingredients to live up to the elevated presentation. read more

I had requested one of the half-booths, and while the hostess kindly let us know it might be a few extra minutes since she had just double-seated that section, you would've never known--our server Cody came by almost immediately and was exceptional. Then came the Ultimate Sticky Bun. Let me tell you... it was absolutely divine. Every Trust restaurant is great. This one is the best. And it should be since it was the where the chef first got started. We have been coming here for dinner since they opened but this was the first brunch visit. The chicken sando was probably the best one I had. The crunch, seasoning mix of sauces were excellent. If you love Brussels and egg whites, the scramble is the way to go. We ate the sticky bun last which was the right call. From start to finish, everyone was so attentive, helpful, and kind. The food and drinks? Simply divine. We tried the ocean tartare, shrimp and andouille, brisket, ravioli, and profiteroles. Everything was perfection. We also sampled a few cocktails, on and off menu. We thought the cocktail menu could use some additions and more variety, but we were so happy with what we got. I had made a reservation since I was aware of how busy they might be. Upon seating at the bar, I was greeted right away and offered water and menu. Then they all seemed to have forgotten about me. It wasn't super busy at the bar, and I watched 3 staff standing around chatting. I really wanted leave at this point, but my tummy was too hungry to try to find another spot. Finally someone came back, but I lost my desire to get a drink..... and since the host still hadn't come back regarding a table I just ordered at the bar. Of course after my order was put in the host decides to come over and tell me there's a table now ready. I decline as all I want to do now is feed this belly and leave. The food arrived, and was a decent portion, and they were generous on the salmon. It would have been nice if the bread was a bit more toasted and it was really oily, so not sure if the added oil on the bottom of the toast as well as topped it with balsamic but it was too much for me. I have been wanting to try Trust since I first had Cardellino and saw it was part of their restaurant group. I made the reservation probably 3 weeks out. As soon as we got there we were seated within 5 minutes. The inside had a very nice and inviting feel to it with an open view of the kitchen and the bar. The server was very kind to us and explained that the meals come out as they are ready. But whoa.. the food came out over a period of 2 hours.. tables had came in after us and left before us. We ordered the Oakleaf Lettuce, the Crab Fried Rice, Wood Grilled Octopus, Beef Tartare, the Casarecce Pasta and the Cedar River Prime Ribeye. The Oakleaf Lettuce had such a strong sour and salty flavor that was a nice start to the meal. Then the Wood Grilled Octopus came out and it was grilled perfectly, but it was super salty.. the Crab Fried Rice was well balanced but it came out an hour before order steak and we wanted to eat it with the steak but we waited so long for the steak so we just ate our rice that had started to get cold. Then the Tartare and pasta came out and HOLY SALT! It hit us that everything was so over salted.. we asked the server for some white rice to balance the meal and she said they didn't have white rice but she could bring us bread. Unfortunatly for us, the bread was super salted too.. I looked up at the kitchen and saw one of the cooks dropping a handful of salt on a plate... my jaw dropped.. the dishes were good but by the time they pasta came out my taste buds were shot.. we were completely overwhelmed and asked the manager if she could cancel the steak because we were honestly overwhelmed and had waited so long already.. she said it was already cooking.. so when it finally came out we had a bite and again.. jusy over loaded with salt.. it was so upsetting for such a nice restaurant.. We told the server if we could get our food packed up and she asked if everything was okay, we told her everything was pretty salty and we would just like to take it to go and she said she would send the manager over. The manager never came to address anything with us and the server ended up bringing us two free desserts and said she didn't want our meal to "end on a salty note, no pun intended." Our server was honestly very sweet to us and we did not want to cause any problems. We were really just trying to manage the meal to keep things enjoyable.. It's been 24 hours and our stomachs are still upset from all the salt and it's been difficult to stay hydrate today. I really am not trying to bash on Trust. Our server was very sweet and the restaurant was beautiful with high quality ingredients. But on this day that we came (June 19) the quality assurance wasn't there in the kitchen and I dont think the manager wanted to be bothered with taking care of one table out of the whole restaurant.. understandable but it just sucks being on this side.. :/ Overall I wouldn't recommend Trust due to our overwhelming and unpleasant experience. read more
