We had such a wonderful experience at Trust Restaurant. Our waiter, Sean, went truly above and beyond--one of the best servers I've ever had. He was so kind, patient, and attentive to every little detail. Sometimes, because of our foreign accent, waiters don't always understand what we're asking for, but Sean understood us right away and handled everything with such professionalism. The food was excellent. We especially loved the hamachi crudo--the coconut milk gave it such a refreshing and delicate flavor. The oxtail ravioli was also outstanding, tender and full of flavor. We tried several dishes and enjoyed them all, and the cocktails were equally fantastic. Saw this place on IG and had to try it. It was absolutely Devine!! You're getting fine dining quality food, with a very San Diego relaxed vibe atmosphere. Service was superior. We came in on a Sunday without a reservation and were still seated promptly. Our server was really nice and attentive. We tried a few different dishes, and all of them were so delicious, some of the best food I've had, we've all had in awhile. No matter what you get, you must try their sticky buns if they still have some left. Ours had mandarin oranges with what looked like limoncello ice cream and it was so good. The host made it seem like it was the most impossible task for her to seat me and then rolled her eyes over when I said table for 1 no reservation. You would have absolutely thought the world had ended by the way she was looking at me made me it would have made you think this was her first time seeing a white boy, so I sat patiently for about 10-12 minutes not even a water not even a server to greet me, and after seeing everyone around me get served I just got up and left, I really would not recommend this place unless you are ready to give up 4 hours of your life waiting on rude staff. read more

We arrived for the Happy Hour which is 5-6pm only at the bar. On the happy hour menu, there were only 2 food items and rest was drinks. We tried both the Smash Burger and Wild Mushroom Mac and Cheese. The burger was delicious, and a generous amount of fries. I would be full on just that dish alone and it's only $10! I loved the secret sauce on the burger and fries. The Mac and Cheese came out a bit later than the burger, so it was piping hot. It was worth the wait because it was heavenly with the creaminess, truffle mushroom flavor, and the crunch of the breadcrumbs on top. The bone marrow mixed in the mac and cheese added a fullness to the dish, without being too heavy. Fortunately, I was able to share the two dishes so it was just enough food without being stuffed. The bartender, Anthony, was friendly and very observant, where he was refilling drinks and mindfully checking in on us and those at the bar without being too much. I wanted a non-alcoholic drink that was a bit on the sweeter side, and he recommended the Honeydew Limeade which was perfect...not too sweet with a bit of the lime tardiness. Regarding the happy hour food (Smash Burger & Wild Mushroom Mac and Cheese), they can only be ordered at the bar and not available for take out. I believe the Smash Burger is available at the bar even after Happy Hour, however please confirm with staff. The venue had great ambience, with outdoor seating right in front (and there are overhead heaters), and tables throughout the restaurant. For the restaurant, they do offer reservations through OpenTable. The restrooms (there is 2) are clean with decor similar to the rest of the restaurant. The staff is very nice. They also offer brunch of Saturdays and Sundays 9am - 2pm. Dinner service is Wednesday - Monday 5pm - close (as of this review 9/2025) I will say that parking can be a challenge, as it is only street parking. There is an Ace Parking lot across the restaurant. We were able to find street parking a block away. Be mindful that the Hillcrest Farmers Market is on Sundays, so it is busy in that area Sunday mornings. read more

I even recommended this place to a friend visiting from out of town and she enjoyed it very much. Food: can't go wrong with the chilaquiles - flavorful, big portion (good for sharing). Best hamburger patty I have ever had. The burger was delicious overall but there was so much stuff going on, I re-separated it and ate it as TwO open faced burgers. I moved the fried egg over to the side with pork belly and arugula, which was an amazing combo by themselves. Then I could really appreciate the divinity of that beef patty with the onion jam which was hidden under the egg. The level of tenderness and moistness was second to none. Cooked perfectly medium rare- excellent pinkness and warm at the center. I don't usually eat a lot of ground beef but when I get a craving, this will be where I return. It's my new number one burger! Met a friend for bunch on Saturday and we made a reservation. Arrived and were seated on time. Our waiter Alex was friendly and attentive without hovering. As a cold brew person who drinks it black I'm picky and theirs did not disappoint. The simple breakfast was cooked perfect and tasted great, even though I would have preferred jam over marmalade. We were in San Diego for a conference and decided to have dinner at Trust Restaurant with a group of twelve colleagues. From the moment we sat down, the experience was outstanding. Our server, Cesar, was incredible -- easily one of the best I've ever had. Managing a large group can be tough, but he handled it flawlessly. He was attentive without hovering, managed the menu so we didn't have to - yes I just told him to take care of the table and he and chef sent out food to us - and he seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even asked. Every request -- no matter how small or complicated -- was met with a smile and handled perfectly. The food? Phenomenal. Every dish that came out was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. Overall, an okay place for dinner or brunch in Hillcrest. You definitely pay Hillcrest prices and for the vibes. I didn't enjoy it because of the slow service and the touching of straws that directly went into our drinks as they were served. A friend recommended the restaurant for dinner before a show at the Civic Center. She said it was "amazing" and "incredibly consistent." Another very discerning friend told me the brunch was 10/10 but hadn't tried the dinner menu. I was able to get a same day reservation at 6pm, although the restaurant quickly started filling up at 7pm. The atmosphere is casual. The prices are high, but commensurate with the outstanding quality of the food and service. I don't recommend the outside patio because it's street adjacent and I never enjoy sitting near a busy street. The inside is nice but with energetic noise level. The food was nothing short of WOW. It's small plates. My husband and I ordered 5 plates, but were full after 4. Everything was delicious with unique and unexpected flavors. For example, most nice restaurants offer a hamachi crudo. Usually it has a bit of oil and a citrus flavor. This one had a middle eastern twist with a sumac flavor. It was outstanding. Another favorite was the crab fried rice which featured Thai basil, lemongrass and lobster. Unique and inspired. Even the roasted carrots were special in the way they were charred. I included a picture of the fire in their kitchen. We also loved the cucumber salad. The albacore tartare was a bit salty for my taste and a bit too heavy on the avocado crema, but if the other dishes hadn't been 10/10 I wouldn't even be saying that. Finally tried this restaurant for dinner. We have been told that their brunch is really good but decided we wanted to try their dinner. We had a 5 pm reservation so the restaurant was not busy. Our server was nice and told us how to order since the dishes were shareable. We ended up ordering 5 dishes (we had ordered 4 but that was not enough). I also had a glass of wine and my husband had a tea. Below is what we ordered. Beet and feta salad - the flavors were nice but most of the bites of beet were pretty hard. I mean way too hard and crunchy. Scallop ceviche - texture was great but the scallops were a bit bland. Wood grilled octopus - one of my favorite dishes we ordered. It was cooked perfectly. Char siu glazed brisket - flavors were really nice but most of the pieces were pure fat. I mean not a shred of actual meat. I had 1 piece that was true brisket and really good. This dish was more like pork belly. Braised oxtail raviolini - one of my favorite dishes we had. They were perfect little bites of pasta with tender meat inside. It was a bit hard for my husband to get a refill for his tea. It was empty for quite a while before the server came by to check on us. Also would like to note that my husband along with 4 other tables asked if they could order a hamburger but were told no because it was only served at the bar. I get it but it seemed a bit silly. So... I tried to call them in advance but they put me on hold... whilst on hold I got in the car and drove the 17 minutes there only to arrive still on hold. Arrived on a Sunday about 1:20 and the place looked like a bomb went off there! The hostess looked frazzled as if it had been a mess of a shift. A phone was clipped to her dress with me still on hold. We were first sat in the courtyard... the waiter stationed there was very busy taking orders and bussing his own tables which was a 20 top. We sat for a bit and sized up the situation and realized we needed to take control of our destiny. We asked to be moved to the bar as we were very hungry, we knew what we wanted and just needed someone to take our order. The bar was in need of a cleaning as well, sticky, wet and gross. I read such great things and was really excited to have the poutine which I saw photos of. Wife was sold on the fried rice. The poutine arrived and I was immediately disappointed by my decision. It was smallish in portion size and very much lacking in the pork belly department. The fries themselves were soft, soggy and altogether not a sign of life to them. The cheese sauce further complicated the mushy texture... the end result was a very sad calorie bomb which I was resigned to scarfing down out of desperation and hunger. Wife's fried rice was decent in flavor.. but truth be told (after tax and tip) 100$ is robbery for a disappointing plate of fries a meager portion of rice, a single beer and a mimosa. The whole place seemed tired, thoroughly incapable of putting in an effort on absolutely any front. I've noticed a decline in quality and overall level of experience at the sister restaurants in the group. (I'm looking at you Fort Oak and Cardalino) This is disappointing as their footprint in the neighborhood is large and I like to support my neighbors. Unfortunately eating out has gotten too expensive for second chances. Trust is something that is earned not given. I'd give trust 3.5 stars for brunch. Maybe it's just me but I feel as though the price inflation for eating out has gotten crazy. $8 for a limeade drink which was a bit too sweet for me. I also got the Moroccan eggs. I like the spice and flavor but the eggs were definitely overcooked and slightly burnt. It came in an iron skillet so that could be why. They did have housemade bread which also seemed inconsistent. While tasty, my piece was burnt while my hubby's was less burned. This is a solid brunch place. The cinnamon bun rotates every week, but usually involves some ice cream topping and other goodies. This week is ice cream with lemon curd and blueberries. One of the most terrible restaurants experiences in my life. Reserved this place with my Fiancé. One we were seated it took the first waiter 10 minutes to come to our table and ask what we wanted. My fiancé ordered a chicken liver toast and cauliflower bowl because she wanted something non-spicy and the waitress said it wasn't spicy. I order a pasta. It took them 20 minutes to give us the toast and another 10 minutes to give us the cauliflower bowl. After 50 minutes of not getting my pasta I asked them to cancel it and left. We ended up paying $50 for a single toast and a cauliflower bowl that was so spicy and we couldn't eat. read more

Was good!! The groups favorite was the shrimp and pasta.. Our "Old Friends, New places" group just felt the value for what we had wasn't there, and our service and the atmosphere somewhat struggled. However the pace was packed, so it seemed to be a preferred place. The food was very flavorful so that was a plus!! I wouldn't say terrible, and not go. Still worth a try. read more

This unexpected meal ended up being a highlight of my trip. The food is absolutely delicious. Shout out to Andrew who took care of me, a party of one. He helped me decide what to eat and parsed out the courses for me. The food is just special, the depth of flavor in the dishes is incredible. The restaurant was quiet, relaxing, and enjoyable space to be in. The service is top notch, I didn't have to ask for a thing. I count this as an experience, and I'm excited to come back to visit when I'm in town again. read more

Unfortunately I waited way too long to post this review, so I'll keep it short and sweet. The food and staff here are absolutely amazing. I'm a pretty simple foodie, and prefer bigger portions, so I was a little skeptical when it came to the "shared plates" concept. I felt like I was going to get super small portions, and therefore be disappointed if something was subpar or if we only had one or two bites. Fortunately, every dish we had was delicious, and while still on the smaller side, the portions were fulfilling. The drinks were also well made, and paired well with our dinner. I wish I remembered our server's name because I would HIGHLY recommend trusting his suggestions. Some of the dishes sounded odd, but dived in and were happy with everything. Finally, I'll suggest taking an Uber or being prepared to walk, because parking can be a hassle. Which is a bummer because this place would be a great date spot. I'll be sure to be more specific after my next visit, and update my review then. Until then, hopefully you can come by and have a similar experience read more
