SERVICE: Our server Brianna was rude and sarcastic. We explained it was our first time and in most cases servers are extremely friendly and helpful. We asked what she would recommend and was told anything with a green leaf symbol next to the item. That didn't answer out question as to what SHE would recommend. Then she was argumentative when my husband reminded her that he requested salad to be tossed. She explained with a very sarcastic tone and condescending facial expression that the lettuce was tossed but not the rest of the ingredients (chicken, cheese, etc.) Almost every place we've had salads and asked for it to be tossed, they toss everything and not just the lettuce. I was concerned that she might have spit or done something horrible to his salad because that's how perturbed she was. FOOD: Overall, my husband did enjoy the salad. Flavor was good but portion was on the smaller side. Unlike the portion you would get from Yard House, Cheesecake Factory, to name a few. I had the roast beef sandwich which was ok. Beef was very dry and a little grizzly. If you want the best roast beef sandwich in the area, go to Salty Sow! Service is excellent there too! Fortunately, we purchased a Travelzoo deal because we would not have wanted to pay full price for the mediocre experience. Travelzoo was so kind to reach out to me via phone and email regarding my negative experience. They sent me a gift card towards future Travelzoo deals which was totally unexpected and much appreciated!! Would we return to Tryst Cafe? We believe in giving any place a second chance. So yes, but next time we will ask for Dan who was the total opposite of Brianna (super friendly, quick and responsive to our requests, great attitude, and smiled). Not sure if Brianna was having a bad day or if this is just who she is as a person but definitely should not be in any industry dealing with customers. Management should highly consider have her assist in the back. Hopefully, she isn't the manager. LOL!! read more

Staff is wonderful! Drinks are great.... food is meh.... Went for brunch on a Sunday. Highly recommend you make a reservation... we did... they were super busy. I saw an order of breakfast nachos come out- they looked amazing! I ordered them- meh.... no flavor. Dry chicken. The rest of the group ordered various omelette and burritos. It was all just ok. We have frequented Tryst for 3 years now- Never have we left and been completely satisfied with the service. Food? yes. Service? no way. We have been asked to clear the table before my daughter finished her meal. When i said we were almost done the man commented we had been there long enough. I have repeatedly asked for a refill on coffee and never received. Once the young man sat us after we waiting 20 minutes only to come tell us that it wasn't our table and that we should have known because there was no high chair. Every time we leave we say we are never going back. We took my Mother in law for Mother's day and my 6 year old ordered herself the kids french toast. The served her the $15 mother's day strawberry french toast special. I mean, come on. And the girl had the audacity to argue that it's what she ordered. My daughter doesn't eat strawberries and i was there when she placed her order. She removed it but still charged us the $15. We have never gotten smiles and chatter from whoever is tending to our table, maybe i'm asking too much? It's a shame the customer service is so dang bad, because it's close to home and good food! read more

Loved this place for years... unfortunately I went in there today, sat for 20 min and couldn't even get a hi or much less even a water, so I left. Went there for happy hour/dinner on Sunday at 5. Were greeted by a very nice hostess. The music was loud and we asked for it to be turned down. Very accommodating. It was not crowded. Service was slow. I ordered a beef burger without a bun. Asked if they had pickles. No. Everything was extra . My burger was supposed to be medium rare, it was more medium well. It came on a piece of wilted lettuce ( with brown edges)on the top and bottom. There was a tiny slice of overripe tomato under it. The fries were done nicely. Did I add that the 14+dollar burger was gristly? I don't usually write reviews like this, but the other people at my table won't go back either. Oh, I ordered a martini during happy hour and it filled the glass half way. Maybe happy hour means half price and half full. Seriously, I wish them well, but they need to up their game. I am only writing this because this is the third time this has happened to me in a row at Tryst. Their food is phenomenal, however, their service is the WORST I have ever seen. I live near Tryst and would easily go there every weekend for breakfast and during the week for dinner if they didn't make me feel like scum every time I went there. My first experience I sat at the bar and got breakfast. Was completely ignored the whole time and never once was asked how anything was and was only talked to to take my order. The next time, I went for a week night dinner with a friend. Since we were the only one in the restaurant, the service was OK. However, upon reviewing my bank account, Tryst added about $10 more on to the TIP portion of the bill. When I went back to the restaurant and talked to a manager, she said she would take care of it and do whatever it took to fix it, and she took my name and phone number. Well, it never got fixed and I never heard from her again. This past time this morning when I went in, sat at the bar again to eat breakfast, was not even asked ONE TIME if I wanted to refill my water. The only time I was asked if anything was OK was when my food was brought to me. After I finished my meal, I saw a waitress leaning on the bar and didn't even ask me if I needed anything. I had to ask a blonde waitress and she snarled at me after having an attitude with another coworker right in front of me: "Well what tables are MINE?!?" giving her an up and down look. This place is downright unprofessional, has no class, and I WILL NOT ever return. It's a shame too, because the food is amazing and I would have spent a lot of money there. My recommendation to you is if you want to leave happy and not aggravated like I am, DON'T GO TO TRYST CAFE!! read more

Not sure what is up with the negative rewiews, but this place is delishhhhhh. Whenever me and my girlfriends go out, we stop at tryst cafe. The food is always very fresh, and their sweet potato tots are to die for. I think people need to understand you are paying more for quality. If you want something less go eat at denny's. Came here for breakfast and got greeted by a woman who seemed to be the owner and she was so great and welcoming, got seated and got our drink order in quickly, I ordered the breakfast burrito that had eggs and chorizo and pico de Gallo and my wife got the breakfast sandwich with had eggs and bacon on a croissant, both were amazing and quality was great. I love breakfast. Unfortunately there is not many cozy cafes up north here. Found this hidden gem other day while I happened to be in the parking lot. Very hard to spot, the signage was not well designed, to small, so it doesn't grab your eye. If you have walleye vision forget it, it's invisible basically. The cafe is cute and cozy. Got there around 1245 ish and was surprised that it wasn't more crowded. The menu was fresh and highly organic. I stuck to my favorite of steak and eggs. Eggs were well cooked, and the steak comes in thinly sliced cuts, which were actually pretty tasty. Normally when you get toast at a breakfast joint the jam or jelly comes in those 5 cent plastic tubs that for all I know are a decade old and packaged in Bangkok by 6 year olds , not here. They use fresh organic stuff here scooped into a heap that is eatable in itself. Nice work. Staff was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. The prices were moderate I'd say. Our bill for two was close to 30 bucks which is a bit pricey for breakfast, but I'm sure rent in that location is a business killer. My only missing desire was they didn't have a stack of courtesy newspapers. You can't have a breakfast joint and not have a morning paper to browse through while sipping on a delicious coffee in my perfect world. read more

I had heard a lot of good things about breakfast here, so I thought I'd try it out. I got the Hawaiian breakfast - Kahlua pork. I love Kahlua pork. I didn't love it so much here. Something wasn't right in comparison to what my Hawaiian friends make for me fairly regularly. I'm sure everyone has a different recipe. This one just wasn't too tasty. The breakfast burrito was good, rather than scrambled eggs chunks in a tortilla, it was a thick scrambled egg sheet which assured for lots of egg in each bite. The choriza was a little on the spicy side. I also had it with a side of fruit which consisted of the typical melon offerings of canteloupe and honey dew. read more
