We stopped by this joint for lunch the other day, mostly because we needed to eat and it happened to be in our path. It's small, only seating about 30 people at most, and the atmosphere is unremarkable, but OK. The wait staff was pleasant but, also, unremarkable. Now, the food... We ordered Panang Curry, with brown rice, the Seafood Salad, and 2 teas. The salad was priced at about $15 and appeared to be nothing more than greens from a mixed iceberg and romaine salad bag, seafood from a frozen seafood bag, consisting of some white fish, two Krab sticks, a few mussels, crab claws, and some decent shrimp. The dressing may have had some fish sauce in it, but it was mostly just a salty, almost brothy, citrus deprived something-or-other. To say the least, at $15, it felt like a major rip-off and I would call it a complete failure as a dish. The Curry may appeal to some but, to me, it was very sweet and salty, leaving little subtlety to experience the spices or herbs that should typically make curry sing. And, the pork was done over-well. I know this is Santa Monica and we should expect higher prices, but our lunch bill came to $32+ tip for a meal that was worth little more than $16 on the high end. There's just no excuse to pay this much for such poor quality, be it lunch or dinner, Santa Monica or not. read more

T's Thai was totally empty when I and my parents, who were visiting from out of town, walked in for an early dinner at 6:10 on a Saturday night. I really have no complaints, considering the very reasonable prices (especially for Santa Monica). Granted, this isn't the best Thai food you've ever had or will ever have.... but at an average of $8 a dish, really, what do you expect? I had a lemonade (a bit on the sweet side, could have been tangier). We ordered rice-paper-wrapped summer rolls to start. My dad pronounced the wrappers too "chewy" (from experience, I know that this texture comes directly from how long you've soaked the wrappers in warm water.... two extra seconds can mean a too-soft wrapper). I thought they were fine. The accompanying sauce was piquant and tangy, though not mind-blowingly delicious. Next, we had pad see ew (fine, though not all that flavorful) and my favorite, eggplant with chicken. Looked pretty on the plate, tasted succulent in the mouth... and not as greasy as at a Chinese place. Bottom line: Come here for quick and relatively cheap Thai food on the Westside. Very standard american thai menu with all the usual curries, mint leaves, noodle dishes as well as a smattering of mainstream american chinese dishes as well. This is not the place to go if you want hardcore traditional thai, but if youre just in the mood for a casual, reasonably priced lunch or dinner within a stone's throw from the SM Pier, then this is the perfect place. Okay so this is a good restaurant if you are in a curry and you aren't looking for something fancy. I got the yellow curry with rice and it was good. Don't go in expecting a fancy restaurant with top notch service, because you aren't paying for that. It's cheap good eats. If you want more than that then go somewhere where the food will be double the price. The food comes out within 5 minutes because it's a predominately delivery based restaurant. Everything is prepared in advance. I'm fine with this. My meal cost me under $15 and I was in and out in less than an hour. It wasn't busy so I didn't feel rushed to eat my food. I like Thai food a lot and I'm always interested in finding good places to eat within walking distance of my house, so I was really hoping T's would be a home run. This was not the case. Some people judge Thai food by the Pad Thai, some by the soups, while I judge it by the curry, specifically Panaang. T's Panaang is very so-so. VERY watery/soupy and not enough meat, which almost never a complaint I have with most Panaang(often times they give you WAY too much meat and not much else). Which brings me to my next complaint - their meat. I got the Panaang with chicken, and while the quality of the chicken was fine, it had obviously not been cooked in the sauce long enough and therefore did not sufficiantly pick up the flavor of said sauce. Long story short: the chicken itself was very bland. This is a problem I tend to have with a lot of inexpensive Thai places, which sucks because I love Thai food and I love to eat cheaply. It's not always easy to find that happy mdeium. That said, the curry sauce, however thin, was somewhat yummy and the lunch special prices are very reasonable. Fast service, cute place, relatively cheap for the proportions, not really authentic. I've had the pad see ew which really was delicious and a large portion, enough to take home and have seconds. The Green Curry was really watery and it doesn't already come with rice so you have to order that along with it. It was only okay and I wouldn't ever get it here again. If you're in a time crunch it's easy to get in an out within an hour. I've come here on my work lunch a couple times. I couldn't ask for anything more from T's Thai. This place is nothing fancy, but it does more than expected. My girlfriend and I eat there about twice a month. Half the time we order delivery and the food comes withing 30 minutes. It is always fresh. The portions are generous. It's fairly priced. Our staples are the crab fried rice. Although pad see yoo is fairly similar anywhere I find myself sorta craving it from T's. We do a good job of trying at least one new dish each time we order. The green bean dishes are rich in flavor. I don't know why this place has such low reviews ... they should be higher. Sometimes, I think people in LA expect miracles from an $9 thai place. My co-workers and I eat here all the time for lunch . While the flavor is not going to knock your socks off for Thai food (hence no fifth star), it is reliably pretty tasty and reasonably priced. Plus, I always see them carrying fresh, high-quality ingredients through the front door ... no Sysco trucks here! I've also always found the service to be polite and prompt. Even during a busy lunch rush, I'm usually out the door in 30-45 minutes. Is it as good as East Wind Thai on Washington? No. Is it a thousand times better than Lattitude Thai on Lincoln. Hell yes. Try the curries (red, green, and yellow are my favorites), it seems to be what they do best. The pad thai is also good, but sometimes can be dry. I've ordered their pad thai twice. First time was good, well seasoned. Second time, underseasoned and missing the traditional orange-y hue in pad thai. Not too bad, not too good. Not too cheap, not too pricey ($7.95-$11.95 /entree). Nothing to go out of your way for, but one that you can do with, if you crave thai food, and are too lazy to not to delivery. The lunch specials come with soup and salad and the entree portions are huge. I get the coconut curry and it's delicious. Had the Tom Kha Gai soup and it was ok. Tasted buttery and didn't really have a mild spice kick that I usually find at other restaurants. Pad Thai is ok. I feel like the sauce is pre-made cause the whole dish comes out orange in color instead of ingredients separated that you mix yourself. I had to come here to express my amazement and appreciation for the way they packed my -to-go order via door dash. Not only was it compartmentalized and layered with cardboard so nothing tipped or leaked, but even my single can of coke was wrapped in cardboard and secured w a rubber band, so the cold wouldn't compromise the warmth of the food. Even the bag was folded straight with three perfectly aligned staples across the top. I have OCD, and this packaging soothed me to see. Oh, and the food was great too.
