Having lived with a Vietnamese family in my early life, I was really looking forward to trying this place. I ordered a pork belly bahn mi sandwich to go. Super friendly guy took my order and gave me a glass of water. The restaurant was small, but had a very nice, clean vibe. The sandwich was supposed to have come with pickled daikon and carrots, along with cilantro. It came with lots and lots of carrots and a fair amount of jalapenos. There was no daikon that I could see or find, and maybe three sprigs of cilantro. If the carrots were pickled, they must have been pickled in the last ten minutes before I got them as there was no discernible flavor other than carrot. Although I went to eat the sandwich about fifteen minutes after I picked it up. It was very soggy. The meat was very much on the dry side, a bit greasy, but again, overall, pretty flavorless. It also seemed more like roast pork shoulder rather than pork belly. This sandwich is not something I would ever order again as I have had some very good bahn mi elsewhere. If I do come back, I will try one of the soups or salads or maybe a spring roll to see if my experience was just a one-off. Being generous, maybe they watered down the flavor profile to adapt to American tastes, but for me, especially considering the price, this sandwich was a complete failure. This place is awesome! Was just walking by and saw this place had plant-based options. I'm not sure if the guy working is the owner, but he was very friendly and gave great service. While I was waiting for my banh mi, also offered me water, which was very appreciated. I got the mushroom and tofu banh mi and got it with vegan mayo. Ordered the chicken banh mi and veggie egg rolls... so good! The portions are large, and definitely justifies the price. But it just felt and tasted like high quality ingredients. I am always a little apprehensive of Viet food on the westside. (Blame it on the banh mi food truck era of the 2010s.) However, we were here for a street festival, and we wanted a quick bite. I got the braised pork bell over rice, and the grilled chicken noodle bowl. You get a really hearty portion per bowl. We could have shared a bowl easily between two people. The braised pork belly was pretty much Vietnamese thit kho and was very rich over rice and veggies. I don't think you need a sauce for this, but I got a house fish vinagrette because it came with the meal. They did not hold back on the fish sauce, and I'm glad that this place did not dilute the sauce as fish sauce is so core to Vietnamese food. Not sure why this place has so many good reviews. It was definitely misleading. I went on a summer afternoon, the place had no ac or bathrooms so it was super muggy and uncomfortable inside. I got the chicken vermicelli salad noodle bowl and spring rolls. The chicken was pretty bland, and spring rolls were nothing special. Overall the food came off pretty amateurish, Not really flavorful or authentic. I was pretty dissatisfied after I left. The high prices don't justify the food at all. The fact that it wasn't pork/shrimp should have been my first clue of the let down to come. The only decent component of the meal was the baguette. There were no pickled daikons as part of the bahn mi vegetables and there was MAYO dripping from the bread/meat. I have never had mayo on a banh mi and there's a good reason for that- it was disgusting and after trying to scrape it off it was impossible to get past and we threw it away. The place is small so getting seating it not easy, but when you eat here expect the nicest man in the world to get you everything you need without asking. I had to drop a friend off to LAX and always have to get something before going back home. My fiancée was craving bahn mi and this place was the closest.
