We got the crispy garlic tofu to start. I forgot to get a picture but those were nicely fried. Then we got the tofu and mushroom banh mi. I was sad to see that the same crispy tofu was so soggy. There was zero crisp and actually just all soggy. The carrots overloaded the flavor and didn't have the balance with daikon. In fact, there was very little daikon. This place is awesome! Was just walking by and saw this place had plant-based options. I'm not sure if the guy working is the owner, but he was very friendly and gave great service. While I was waiting for my banh mi, also offered me water, which was very appreciated. I got the mushroom and tofu banh mi and got it with vegan mayo. The flavor and freshness of the sandwich were great. The size of the sandwich was very large and I felt it was well worth the price, especially for the area. There were no pickled daikons as part of the bahn mi vegetables and there was MAYO dripping from the bread/meat. I have never had mayo on a banh mi and there's a good reason for that- it was disgusting and after trying to scrape it off it was impossible to get past and we threw it away. I am always a little apprehensive of Viet food on the westside. (Blame it on the banh mi food truck era of the 2010s.) However, we were here for a street festival, and we wanted a quick bite. I got the braised pork bell over rice, and the grilled chicken noodle bowl. You get a really hearty portion per bowl. We could have shared a bowl easily between two people. The braised pork belly was pretty much Vietnamese thit kho and was very rich over rice and veggies. I don't think you need a sauce for this, but I got a house fish vinagrette because it came with the meal. They did not hold back on the fish sauce, and I'm glad that this place did not dilute the sauce as fish sauce is so core to Vietnamese food. Very clean and unpretentious with a simple black and white menu with a few DELICIOUS choices. The flavorless broth lacked seasoning, the noodles were seriously undercooked and there was an abundance of floppy chicken skin - very disappointing, especially at $35 a bowl. We threw it out. As I mentioned in my first post, I've traveled throughout Vietnam, and got these sandwiches wherever I could find them (or wherever Anthony Bourdain had been to ) But, this Bahn Mi ranks in my top sandwiches of all time. Came here on a Sunday around 12:45 pm and waited about 15 minutes to be seated. Parking was fairly easy on the street and in the surrounding neighborhoods. The establishment is pretty small, with about 10 seats in total. The restroom is shared and in the establishment next door. I got the pork belly banh mi ($17) and ube latte ($7), both of which were great. This was one of the juiciest banh mis I have had, which made it stand out among other places.
