I love thai food and wanted to try something new. POOM Thai Cuisine caught my attention because of its cozy vibe and all the plants throughout the restaurant. We had actually been here once before back in January 2020 so returning again in January 2026 felt a little surreal. Atmosphere The restaurant is very small and intimate, with lots of plants that give it a cozy feel. Years ago, they had a visible fish tank that added charm, but now it's tinted black, so you can't see the fish anymore. It still feels warm and inviting, though some plants looked less full than before. They're open late (until 1 a.m.), which is a big plus. Food We tried several dishes: Sweet & Sour Seafood Soup, it looks spicy but actually isn't. It had lots of mushrooms and was surprisingly good. Coconut Seafood Soup (Chowder), creamy, comforting, and unexpectedly delicious, especially if you enjoy coconut-based soups. Wontons, simple but excellent; the dipping sauce was especially good. Chow Mein (Beef), the noodles were different from what we usually get, but still tasty and enjoyable. Beef with Broccoli & Combination Fried Rice. Both solid and flavorful. The soups now come in regular bowls instead of the heated metal pot they used to serve before, which looked nicer but didn't change the taste. The soup portions are large, and they were happy to provide small bowls so we could share. Kid-Friendly Notes My 11-year-old son loved everything except the soups. He didn't like the broth itself but did enjoy the fish inside them. Service There was only one person serving, possibly the owner. He was polite and attentive bringing water without us asking but since he was handling dine-in, phone orders, and pickups alone, there was a bit of a wait when we wanted to order more food. Parking There's no dedicated parking lot. Street parking can be tricky due to restrictions, but since we went around 10 p.m., we were able to park right in front without issues. Food: The food was delicious! I would def recommend the food here. I got the Fried Hot Wontons and they were DELICIOUS! We got two orders because everyone loved them! We also got the Fisherman's seafood chowder. It had notes of coconut and some spice but not too spicy. Lets just say my mind is changed, I'm a Coconut soup fan now! Service: Service was good. There is only one server for the whole restaurant since it's so small so have patience with them. I did think service could've been better but tried to understand that it was only on guy serving and getting orders. I also didn't like that we had to call him every time we wanted to order more , he didn't ever come to us to ask if we wanted something else. Just the first time we were going to order. Ambiance: A very small restaurant and some things are very outdated so don't be surprised about how some things look old or not cleaned. Fish tank needs to be cleaned and plants look like they're dying but at the end of the day I'm judging more the food than the cleanliness/upkeep of their restaurant. I recently visited Los Angeles, and made eating as much Thai food as possible one of my top priorities. I live in New Orleans; we don't have a lot of edible or authentic Thai food. My friend and I popped in on the late side. I was immediately charmed by the sort of rundown aesthetic, full of enough plants to make one feel like they were eating at the edge of a jungle. But nothing prepared me for the graffiti and crayon etchings all over the wall. Some of it was quite amusing. I ate another Thai restaurants during my stay, but none compared to the heat or authenticity of the dish I had here. They could only accommodate certain dishes for strict vegetarians like myself, so I had a pumpkin and asparagus dish made extra spicy. It was absolutely sumptuous, and my mouth was on fire. We also split some sort of dumplings which were good. But I often find that appetizers are better than entrees at Thai restaurants. That was not the case here. Our waiter was dressed kind of formally and was very funny. I wouldn't want to come here if it was busy. We had the whole place to ourselves. It's quite tiny. I heart Poom Thai. As a Lao person, Poom's Thai food reminds me of home on the coldest nights where nothing but a flavorful soup from here can warm me up. Every single dish is truly authentic to Thai cuisine and is cooked to perfection. The spice levels are on par with how Thai & Lao people love our spiciness, sometimes a little spicier than I'm normally used to. The food does not take long at all to be served, usually within 10 minutes. The service here is impeccable. Poom caters to everyone and is the sweetest. If you don't know what you want, or are new to Thai cuisine, he'll give you the rundown of what to expect and what he'll suggest. Or, if you already know what you want, Poom is more than happy to strike a conversation with you on any topic. Seats were able to accommodate my party of 5 and all of the tables and floors are clean. Pad Se-ew - 5/5. Hands down one of the best Pad Se-ews I've had, and I will always come back to eat it again. The portions are really generous for the price, and you can split it amongst two people. The broccoli and noodles were nicely cooked and not too salty and the chicken was really juicy and not dry at all! I will have to order this again once I come back. This is my first time visiting Poom Thai. I was looking for late-nite dine in option around Santa Monica. I called ahead of time to check-in and found out they would be open past 10PM. Nice! When we arrived, we were greeted by Poom. He cleared some tables for us and handed us a few menus. My boyfriend and I were looking for sharable dishes. We ordered the 'Kai Kua' and Pineapple Fried Rice with Tofu as protein. Talk about great flavor combinations! I love the Tofu was crispy: a nice texture that goes well with the freshly fried rice. I don't recall if I've ever eaten Kai Kua before (Flat Noodles w/ Chicken & Soybean), but very much enjoyed it. I admire all of the decorations as well. Many fans of the restaurant send cards, letters, photos with warm messages and appreciation for the business & presence. It's nice to see the community engaging in a sweet, positive way. I went to Poom Thai for dinner with friends, and I won't lie, I actually had a really nice time. To start off, the food was really amazing! I had the Panang curry with rice and it was genuinely the best curry that I've ever had. It arrived beautifully plated and was perfectly balanced. It was creamy but not overly heavy. The chicken was tender and cooked just right. The overall blend of the curry was satisfying and easily became one of my favorite dishes of the restaurant. There is lots of take out happening, based on the number of food delivery services entering during our dinner. This my first time at Poom Thai, and wow, when you walk into the restaurant, I felt so at home. The vibes are immaculate. You can just tell that this restaurant is well loved. It gives off such a nature/greenery vibe with all the plants and decor surrounding the area. There are plenty of seating and the ambience is so nice. The food I ordered was Tom Yum Koong and the Spicy Thai Fried Rice Beef. For drinks, my table all got thai tea. Tom Yum Koong was a delicious soup. It was so flavorful, you can definitely taste both the spicy and sweetness. There is plentiful of mushrooms and shrimps that comes into the soup, which is so nice and yummy. For the fried rice, it was so much and so delicious. The beef was well tendered and the rice was cooked just right. The Thai tea was one of my favorite drinks I've had. The wall was also very entertaining to observe while waiting around for the food so the wait did not feel so bad. Overall the ambiance and vibe of the place feels like I was at home and comfortable while eating comfort food. As for food, my table ordered tom yum koong and the spicy thai fried rice with beef which were both very delicious and filling for just two dishes. The thai tea is also a must order, not too sweet and a good amount of caffeine. My favorite dish of the two we ordered was the tom yum koong because it tasted more lime-y than the other ones I've had in the past - which I personally loved since I love lime. It was also packed with mushroom and big shrimps. The service was friendly and accommodating. We dined in on a late Sunday night and we were immediately seated. The food came out fast and very fresh off the strove, I could literally smell the tom yum as it was being cooked. Very kind and open owners. I definitely recommend giving Poom Thai a visit! read more
