Tsing Tao is hands down the best Chinese food in Mesa. We order from here at least once a month, and it's always consistently great. Their soups are a must. We always get a large egg drop soup and a large wonton soup and combine them--it's the perfect combo. The wontons are huge, packed with flavor, and they don't skimp on how many they give you. You definitely get your money's worth. I always go for the bourbon chicken. It's one of my favorites because it's not drowning in sauce like some places do, but it's still packed with flavor. Perfectly cooked, just the right texture, and the taste is always on point. The egg roll is the only thing that's just okay. It's a pretty standard veggie egg roll, nothing special, but not bad either. Overall, this place nails it on the quality, portion sizes, and consistency. I was really excited when I found out. This is an old-school East Coast style Chinese eatery. I always get the generals chicken with an egg roll from any new Chinese restaurant first. The reason behind it is to see how good the quality of the food is on something simple and then possibly order something different the next time. This was really a disappointment. The use of store-bought chicken instead of making it from scratch was very disappointing. The egg roll was really greasy and the oil it was cooked in should've been changed days ago. I have ordered from them for years. The food is great. The last 3 times the delivery has been horrible. Today I placed my order at 11:12. Estimated delivery was 50 to 60 minutes. The delivery was made to the house next door. By the time everything was figured out my food had been sitting outside for 27 minutes. The paper bag wasn't sitting flat so most of the sauce had leaked out. The bottom of the bag tore out dumping food. It was not hot either. When I called they offered me 20% off my next order. We rolled the dice between all the American Chinese restaurants one night and we decided to go with Tsing Tao. I think it was the 4th place we had tried overall in town. So far in my experience living in Mesa, I've struggled to find a place that does American Chinese food.... Well? .....Good enough? ... That's the best way to describe it. I don't know, I don't think I've ever had "bad" Chinese food. I was shocked at how many times I've ordered from what appeared to be a Classic American Chinese place only to be completely disappointed at the lack of quality and flavor. I didn't realize how spoiled I was in my small town back home. We had an abundance of these places and none of them ever gave me something to cry about. Tsing Tao doesn't just blow the competition out of the water around these parts, they're doing it better than everyone else. I tend to get the same thing every time I pick up food. I can't say I've had the opportunity to try the whole menu but I live by a philosophy "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I might get the same few items with some variation but anything I've had has been absolute perfection. My must have, no negotiation dishes are the Hot and Sour Soup and Chicken on a stick, otherwise I pretty much get the same things unless it's cheat day and I can spoil myself with the General Tso's. I'm usually not that big of a General Tso's fan. Typically I would load up on Lo Mein and any kind of the stir fries a place had to offer in all my years of being a Chinese takeout connoisseur. Of course spring rolls, chicken on a stick and soup are a given. Occasionally there is this voice I hear when ordering that says "get the General Tso's" and for some reason I just do it. Never in my life did I think I would be trying to spread the Gospel of the General but here we are. This might sound crazy, UNHINGED even, but this is the best General Tso's chicken I've ever had in my life. Not to undermine any of the other classic but phenomenal offerings this place has but truly this chicken should not be slept on whatsoever. The chicken is fried to just the right level of crispy and juicy, perfectly coated in the General's finest sauce. The sauce has an extra zing to it while remaining true to the formula. It's sweet, savory, spicy and it goes all the way up to 11. There is an actual kick from the spice and the best part is they let you turn that up as high as you want. I always get it extra hot. I hope this place stays open for the rest of my days because I'm going to ask for this chicken on my death bed. The prices here are more than reasonable. I almost didn't want to order here because it felt too good to be true. Typically lower costs means not great but in this particular case we have a unicorn! The food is of the highest quality and it won't break the bank. The folks that run this place are always super nice and welcoming when I walk in to pick up my order. I've never had an issue with any of my orders. Tsing Tao has given me more than what I've asked for from a takeout joint. One might suggest that these types of takeout places are a dime a dozen and to that I say absolutely not. What made those places back home so great was that they always peeled out the hits without missing a beat. It always tasted good and I had nothing to complain about. What Makes Tsing Tao stand out from the rest is they have taken a menu that is the gold standard nation wide, in every city and every state and raised the bar way beyond comprehension. Customer service was non-existent. The beef and broccoli's flavor wasn't too great, and they forgot my wonton which comes with the lunch special. While this place doesn't serve dim sum, they do have a great offering of Chinese-American eats. I ordered: Hot & Sour Soup: Oddly enough, this was neither hot or sour. I think I can make a better hot & sour soup but hey, I use to work at a really amazing Asian restaurant where I learned all sorts of tips and tricks. Orange Chicken: Aw yis! I love that they threw in some orange peels. The flavor you get from the peel is a whole different taste. If there's orange peels in your orange chicken, you know you're in for a good treat. Beef Chow Fun: Good flavor, great technique (no broken noodles), but not too much smokiness from the wok. All in all, this place is a great local Chinese spot. Will it make it to my takeout rotation? Probably not but I commend them for doing some truly excellent dishes. For three items plus tip, the total was just under $33. The prices are more than fair. It's a cozier spot so large parties are not ideal. As a matter of fact, you should probably take your food home. It's a bit warm in here! read more

I can only speak for the food. This is my favorite chinese take out. You know when you order chinese food and the taste isn't there, the vegetables are over cooked, and it just meh. This isnt that. Tsing tao is that chinese food delivery you had when you were a kid. Everything tast just the way it should, the vegetables are not over cooked and still have a snap, and never leves you disappointed. We came here after a long drive home from Colorado. We went all out and got two large soups (egg drop and wonton), cream puffs, egg rolls, spring rolls, a triple delight and teriyaki chicken. The order was ready earlier than planned but it wet still piping hot all the way back home. The soups were full and flavorful and came with fried wonton crisps. No complaints here. The egg rolls were standard and tasty. The spring rolls had a mushy center which was unique and still tasted good. The cream cheese wontons were fried to a nice golden brown and they were filled well with cream cheese. The entrees were well cooked, made to order and were filled to the brim with veggies and meats. I always forget how big of a pain it is to find your go-to takeout places when you move to a new neighborhood, but I've definitely found my favorite Chinese takeout at Tsing Tao. The food is reasonably priced, my order is always ready within 10-15 minutes, and the food is piping hot. I've ordered quite a few different menu items and have never had a bad dish nor has my order ever been wrong. Tried this place out with my boyfriend, we were craving chinese food. I pre-ordered online and the food was ready within 10 minutes! Prices were pretty fair considering the portion size! I was able to eat my sesame chicken for dinner and lunch the next day. As mentioned, I got the sesame chicken with fried rice. The sesame chicken was super saucy (which I love) and tasty. I probably would've gone for normal white rice, the chicken sauce and fried rice flavors were a bit odd together. My boyfriend went for the salt and pepper shrimp, which he enjoyed very much! I don't leave reviews. I took a chance on the General Tso's Bean Curd (I say took a chance because I just don't always have the best experience with tofu. I'm particular about mouth feel). I chose Lo Mein instead of rice because I was craving it. I also purchased two spring rolls. Absolutely loved it! The dishes are Americanized however, that's also how I grew up eating these dishes until I began branching out. That said, I was happy with their style. The Bean curd was perfectly cooked/fried and the sauce was delicious. I felt the spice level was ideal for a baseline. The lo mein was exactly like I like. Everything was saucy and not dry. The spring rolls were hot and crispy. I took my first few bites and already decided I'd be returning. Not to mention, their prices are much more reasonable than other places. They really keep it affordable. The cost of these three items was $16.66 and I had enough for two complete (man, I'm full) meals. We placed a Grub Hub order for dinner. We ordered the house special fried rice, chicken chow mein and spring rolls. There was nothing special about the rice. Meat and veggies were very scarce. Our chow mein came as lo mein. Very small amount of chicken and soggy tasteless noodles. Both dishes together were just brown and bland. The egg rolls seemed to contain tasteless, slimes mush. I have been ordering from Tsing Tao for more than a year now, since working from home. They always get my order right and their food is SO good. I ordered the egg roll as a side, which didn't have a description of ingredients (I'm pescatarian) so I left a comment saying "no meat please." They CALLED me to let me know the egg rolls always contain meat and offered the spring roll, which I obviously accepted.
