On this Saturday, my stomach was speaking Chinese. Lucky enough to be living near two great Chinese spots, we decided to go for the NY-style takeout. Shrimp Toast ($8.58): The shrimp toast was greasier and fisher than what we remembered, so we probably won't order that again. BBQ Boneless Spare Ribs ($11.29): We ordered on DoorDash for pick-up, so we didn't see the bone-in version on the app, or we would have ordered those instead. There's flavor on the bone, and these boneless spare ribs were dry. Beef Chow Fun ($12.98): You can really taste the char on the chow fun, which is what makes takeout so good. It was a good chow fun. General Tso's Chicken ($13.55): They put broccoli, baby corn, and bell peppers in their General Tso's Chicken, which I'm not mad about. That was actually what Joyce gravitated towards. I'll keep ordering from here again for chow fun, but the other spot closer to home makes better fried chicken dishes. read more

We approach ethnic restaurants all the same way, if we have tried a dish at one we try it at a new place to compare before we branch out to other items on the menu. In the case of Chinese food we look for good staple dishes to give us an idea of the quality of the kitchen, and the food that comes from it. Egg Rolls, Greneral Tso's, Moo Sho and Orange Chicken are all good tell tales for us. Today, we tried Red Dragon for the first time in many years, they were once our number one goto fo Chinese delivery. Mainly because the food was top notch but also because the delivery was fast and acurate and the prices were terrific. Alas, none of these things is true any longer. The pork egg rolls were amazingly devoid of pork or anything else but poorly cleaned cabbage which stank to high heaven. I have never experienced a smelly egg roll before. The lunch specials are served with your choice of soup, I had the wanton and my wife the hot and sour. Both were served at a tepid temperature and probably should have been heated when we arrived home but we soldiered on. (Oh yes, when ordering on-line, delivery was NOT an option and we had to go get our delivery Chinese food.) The wanton soup had a odd chemical taste to it and the wantons themselves were like mush. The hot and sour soup was neither. The entrees were orange chicken and general Tso's chicken. They tatsed exactly the same as each other and the veg tasted like well, nothing. There was a small pool of sauce at the bottom of each bowl and even the rice had no texture or character at all. They reminded me mostly of bad frozen microwave meals. Even the fortune cookies were stale, it was a very depressing meal. The restaurant itself did not smell of food when we went to pick up our order, it smelled of cigarette smoke instead and that should have given us the heads up but we went ahead and bought our "food" anyway. I can't say that we will be giving Red Dragon a second bite at the apple, they did give us any indication that they were interested in being a GOOD choice for Chinese food. read more

We have been eating Red Dragon since they pretty much started and have always been impressed. I go with the Orange Chicken and Dim Sum Sampler. All of it is great and now living out of state I miss the food so much that it is one of my first stops when I come to visit. The egg rolls are perfect, crab ragoons are some of the best I have had and I love the orange chicken. The chicken on the skewer is great but with little or the dumpling sauce on it I think it is even better. It's a small family ran business that has great food and very nice staff. read more

We ordered take out. We ordered the Mongolian beef, pork fried rice, and pork egg foo young. There was not one dish, except the side of white rice, was edible. The beef was old and chewy. The pork in the egg foo young was hard and chewy. The gravy was good, even the pork fried rice was almost crunchy. That was a huge waste of $45. I wish I had read the reviews before I placed my order. Prepare to be disappointed. Here is my take Wonton soup - very good, large and good amount of wontons which are delicious with a very nice broth. Hot and sour soup - pass. Very very thick, not so hot. Pork chow mein - just like we had back east. Delicious doesn't even begin to describe it. The veggies were fresh. The sauce tasty and the pork tender. Beef Szechuan - very good. Fresh veggies, tender meat. The sauce was good but can't put my finger on what was different from my memory Fried rice - pass - needed soy sauce and hot mustard to make it good, again just some flavor off. Chow mein (crispy ) noodles- hard pass. These should be fresh and crispy and tasty. These were none of the above. I love Chinese food. When I see a big plate of noodles, I go nuts. I'm kind of a Lo mein-iac. Get it!? GET IT!? I'm just squeezing in one more Asian-owned business before Asian-Pacific Islander Heritage Month is over! I was craving that Americanized-Chinese takeout and had remembered getting a menu from this place that adversities themselves as New York style Chinese takeout. I ordered the shrimp toast, an orange chicken combo, and a sweet & sour pork combo. Not too shabby! While the shrimp toast ended up being oily, I enjoyed the rest of my food. The orange chicken had huge chunks of meat and didn't get soggy from the sauce. The sweet & sour pork was on the smaller side (like a Whopper candy sized nugget of meat) but I like that the sauce was on the side. The combos came with a flavorful pork fried rice and the egg rolls were pretty good, although a bit small with less filling and mainly wrapper. All in all, I'm pretty happy with this place. I can't believe I have not tried this Chinese restaurant before. They are only doing takeout but my food was hot and very fairly priced. I ordered the chicken with curry sauce and it was a bit spicy and as described. Great option for take-out as there are only a few tables. Writing this review as it seems something has happened at the restaurant. The food is just not the same as it was even a 6 months ago. Our recent order: Sweet and Sour Chicken - standard fare, got what we expected. Chicken Chow Mein - the was a weird taste to the dish and the chicken. Something definitely off with a dish we have ordered many times. This is the second time it has not been good. Beef Lo Mein - another one we get regularly but this time there was a couple of very grisly pieces of beef. Big turn-off. I've been searching for a Chinese food place that is close to what I loved back in my home state. I came here for Shrimp in Lobster sauce, triple delight, and egg drop wonton soup. The soup was the right color and the dumplings were good. It was thicker than I'm used to and it didn't have any flavor unfortunately. I diluted it a bit and it was better. The triple delight was good. The sauce was a bit thin though. The meats were cooked well and seasoned well. The shrimp they use are huge. Good quality. The shrimp in lobster sauce was good. I lived in China for many years. This is the worst representation of Chinese food I've ever seen. I ordered Mapo Tofu. They put fake crab in it. Mapo Tofu doesn't even have crab. It's not even "American" Chinese food, it's just random ingredients put together. The sauce it came in was the consistency of hair gel. The general chicken was ok but the white rice tasted like mildew and the sesame tofu was so over cooked it was basically tofu jerky. Price came out to around $12-13 because they charged me $2 to sub for chicken fried rice. I took my meal to go and the portion for what I paid was quite small.
