Went last night for valentines day and it worked out well. They didn't take reservations because they were pretty quick and moving people in an out. Even though they were packed it seemed like we were their priority which is nice. The sushi was amazing as it is made fresh. The hibachi is fairly tasty as well. My husband and I met a few friends of ours here for dinner on a Friday night. I was surprised we didn't have to wait to be seated but we were able to walk right in and get a table immediately. There was also a special from 5 to 7pm to get 3 sushi rolls (from a specific list) for $10. They were mostly simple rolls on the specific list but a good deal none the less. Unfortunately, once we ordered it kind of went down hill from there. Even though we ordered sushi as part of the main course we received the sushi about 20 minutes before we received the generals and fried rice. Also, the generals we ordered was not generals - we couldn't figure out what exactly we had gotten instead but half of the chicken on the plate was also undercooked. I blame this on the service we received. We barley saw our waiter and when we did see him he would very quickly stop at our table only to tell us our food wasn't ready yet. It was odd because the place wasn't that busy. So overall, probably won't be back. read more

Horrible food!! My 3 year old couldn't chew her hibachi chicken and was spitting it out, something she never does! Edemame was so hard we couldn't even get them out of the shell by squeezing. The fried rice and shrimp were also hard and the sushi was dried out. The manager offered to cut the bill in half and save our $30 groupon for another time but I opted to pay the bill because I don't plan on going back! read more

They close for lunch at 2:15 not the posted 3pm. Service during the day is very poor. The food itself is good but the lack of customer service just ruins any redeeming qualities the restaurant has. I used to love Tsunami, but the last couple times they've disappointed me. I usually get the Crunch Roll and my last 3-4 visits the tempura shrimp was stale. Today I got the Crunch Roll and The GMC Roll, the tempura was stale and the crab salad on top of the GMC was not fresh at all and there was a hair on it as well. Can't say the sushi was bad, because it wasn't. My server was GREAT and I tipped accordingly. But when I asked to PAY MORE to upgrade from tuna roll, the GOD SUSHI CHEF said no! 1st time EVER that I couldn't get what I wanted even by paying more. I'll never be back. We ordered carry-out service, thinking it would be fast as there were only 2 families in the dining area at the time (Sunday afternoon). Not only did we have to wait approx. 25 mins for take out sushi but then they charged us $.50 for a cup of eel sauce. Since we'd already paid by debit card, I certainly wasn't going to swipe again for 50 cents but the hostess insisted there were no exceptions. Found the change in the car for the sauce but considering the long wait and the fact that we'd spent $35 already...it seemed petty to me. Sushi was ok, nothing great. I visited this establishment the other day craving for some seafood dynamite. Thinking that it would come with sliced cucumbers, it did not. I asked the server if I could get some cucumbers to eat with my dish, with her reply, this establishment is own by someone else and not affiliated with the vista location. Was unaware of that, but I insisted to have the cucumbers. While waiting on the cucumbers, I realized my food was warm and not hot. When the server returned, the cucumbers were cut spirally and the server stated that's how the cooks were trained to cut but I could get salad cucumbers but I would have to cut them myself because the cooks were busy, mind you it's only twenty people in the whole restaurant to include the employees!! I asked her could she get them to cut them and moments later, she brings me an entree plate with four cucumbers and a knife to slice them in half.... the look on my face was priceless and I told her to take the cucumbers and seafood dynamite back. To include my hotlanta sushi was so hard that it could have cut my gums! I got there at 825, I didn't get my food until 850, and another customer came and sat at the bar, within fifteen minutes, she got her food.... never again!!! read more

I love their specialty sushi rolls...haven't had a bad one yet. Sometimes can take a while on weekends but worth the wait. Very trendy inside and usually a younger crowd. You must try the pineapple upside down cocktail...mind-blowing! Shumai are also great as a starter. read more

Yummy sushi rolls for great prices. Tsunami may be our new go-to sushi restaurant. The waitress was attentive and we got our food quickly. They have great lunch hours (when most places close at 2, this place closed at 3, so we were able to get our late lunch in). Overall we were very pleased with our meal and experience at Tsunami, and I am sure we'll be back. read more

The menu items are over priced and were delivered cold. We ordered vegetable pot stickers that looked and tasted like green snot stickers. I hate to comment on service but the appetizers came with the meal and drinks went unfilled for half the meal. I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

The service is terrible. I would rate the food but the bartender never actually put my order in. Of course, she also was unaware that I didn't get my food because she never came back to where I was sitting to inquire if I needed anything. I saw with an empty beer glass as well and when I got her attention enough to order another beer, she forgot that as well and never came back to inquire if I needed anything else. She was equally as horrible with the other guests. The place was basically dead so it wasn't because she was slammed. I would never recommend this place based on how poor the service was. read more

Folks, it wasn't good. What's so disappointing is that I love Tsunami in Charleston. I have even eaten at the one in the Vista (Columbia) and it was 3x better. Most restaurants along Bower have a 60-120 minute wait. There is a reason you can walk into Tsunami on a Friday night and sit down immediately for a bite. The sushi was not fresh - in fact it was dry and fell apart. Spoon fulls of roe and other unessentials were 'dumped' on top of the rolls and nearly buried them making an awful presentation. The server must have come straight from a party of his own - definitely had challenges articulating his thoughts and communicating, frequently forgot requests and things we'd ordered. Perhaps my favorite was being a spectator of three hostesses on staff that night - none of which greeted guests or took a position at the podium up front but rather wandered around with a cloth in one hand glancing at tables around the restaurant. Bus girl or hostess? Who can tell these days? read more

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. A cockroach was climbing down the booth we were sitting at right behind my shoulder. When I screamed and called the waiter over all he said was "Oh my I should probably tell my manager". Yeah probably. After he left it took him over 5 minutes to come back, and he only asked IF we wanted to switch tables. So of course we did. Then he brought us the second round of sushi that we ordered even though I wanted to leave right after that. Now I expected at the least an apology from the manager or some item to be taken off of our check... Our waiter gave us our full priced checks like nothing had even happened. If you want better customer service and no cockroaches interrupting your meal I suggest you permanently limit your visits to the Tsunami in downtown Columbia. I've never had that type of dining experience in my life. No tip was left. We received no apology on our way out, never coming back to this restaurant again. read more

This was expensive for what we got. We'd heard so much about this restaurant and we were disappointed. I ordered the lettuce wraps and everyone knows the important thing about lettuce wraps is the bib letttuce. They gave me just a little bit of ice berg. Had to eat it with a spoon mostly. I was very disappointed with my visit today. I came with my six year old and 21 month old. I was seated quickly but the hostest didn't ask me if I needed a high chair. My little one was very wiggly and didn't want to be held. I sat for over 10 minutes with no service at all as I watch every other table around me being served. Very disappointed in this place. The Tsunami is Charleston was good but this place is poorly ran. My last visit, I was disappointed again. It took 10 minutes to get our initial drink order in and another 10 to get them. They forgot our plates with our appetizer and messed up my wife's drink. Unsweetened vs sweetened tea. They told my wife they were sweetening her tea and it took awhile. ? I'm 90% sure they just added sweetener packets. What a joke. My wife got her meal. The waitress made excuses every step of the way, and didn't seem to care a whole lot. You then had them forget to put in my basic 2 roll sushi orders and a manager came over and blamed his computer system for not doing it. So, my wife was watching her food get cold for 15 minutes while I waited for what tasted like grocery store sushi and I could have walked to Publix grocery in the time it took them to get me my food. Pretty irritated. The building is nice and the feel is nice. That seems to be it however. This is the second time in a row this place made me feel like I just wasted money. This used to be a better place. Likely not going back and will search for an alternative for my sushi fix. Two thumbs way down. read more

Let me start of by saying I absolutely love this restuarant and I have been coming here for many many years and I have never had a problem UNTIL today. Myself and my coworkers went for lunch. We were there almost an hour and finally got out food... Our waiter (which was his 2nd day) and another waiter name Andrew brought out good out. Andrew told us that they didnt have enough rice but that they did put a little bit of rice on each one of our plates but that more rice will be brought out when the other rice was finished. Now its 2 hours we never got our rice that was promised and then we had to ask about 5 times for our checks and they finally brought them out and charged everyone for a full meal that we never got. When I asked Andrew about that our tickets because we never got the rice he said well do you want me to give you the rice to go?!?! Ummm no sir!! Then he proceeded to get a attitude with me and said I'll just have them take the rice off the ticket. (Mind you we have been there 2 hours and 15 mins now and having to change 7 tickets was going to take another hour.) I said nevermind just run our cards because we have to go. So he started bobbing his head, walked off and made comments.... I said Andrew was seems to be the problem he then stated loudly "look I wasnt even your waiter and I was trying to help but you are just one of those that like to be complaining just to be complaining and I dont want to talk to you" like hold the f*** up and who are you sir? Ummmm no sir we started to go back and forth because of how he was talking to me and my coworkers. If you dont like your job then waiting is not for your Andrew. I asked the lady there for the owner/managers name which she was hesitant to give it to me then replied Kon... being that she was hesitant I asked the other waiter and said Sunbe if that's how you spell it. We went for dinner with reservations in Harbison. There was only a few tables full but it still took almost an hour to finally get dinner. The habachi steak and shrimp was almost inedible and cold. You would think that would be easy to prepare. My Bento plate was good as was the salad but due to the wait and cold poor quality of the other plate we will not return. read more

It's all about customer service and retention. The sushi is good not exceptional however the chefs and wait staff are great! However, new owners are not friendly and have no idea of customer service. They were there tonight and totally interrupted the chefs as they were finalizing our order; we thought they were DHEC inspectors or other! Server informed us that owners were not nice and were picky about every dollar. Tonight was 30% off on some items (which we didn't even know) and we ordered the spicy crab salad sashimi, which meant 2 slices of cucumber were included. She told us owners told her we were to pay full price no discount because of the cucumber. Server informed them and us she refused and said she would buy them a new cucumber for $1. Also upon leaving we thanked and said goodbye to manager and owner up front. Female owner did not speak, was not busy and did not reply. Our bill for two was around $60. Goodbye Tsunami. read more
