Tried the Bulgogi Bibimbop. Every Korean restaurant has their own version of bibimpop. The gochujang had a nice heat to it with some sweetness and the sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds added a dimension to the flavor. Love the over easy egg fried egg that adds the yolk flavor when mixed together. This is the first time I've had mushrooms in bibimpop and it added some earthiness to it. Overall was quite good, just wished there was a little more pickled radishes to add some more crunch as everything else was soft. Soy glazed chicken wings were very tasty. They were served with French fries and rice cakes. The soy glaze was sweet and salty and stuck really well to everything. The wings had a nice crispiness to the outside that had a dense chew to the hardened glaze. The toasted rice cakes had a nice coating of the glaze that had some crispiness to it just like the fries. Dukboki had a great depth of flavor to it and the heat was very nice as it was not overpowering in spice and had a lingering burn to it. The rice cakes were super soft and chewy and the fishcakes added some saltiness. Really good Dukboki, wish there was more rice cakes. Definitely will be frequenting here often. read more

We stopped in for lunch at this cute Korean restaurant. There were about 5-6 booths along the wall and 1-2 tables. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I ordered a bibimbap with bulgogi in a stone bowl. That dish was sizzling when it came out. They warned me it was hot--and it stayed hot, while I was eating, even after I put the leftovers in a takeaway container, it was still hot. Who knows, maybe when I take it out of the fridge, I won't have to heat it up, it will still be hot. Kidding. The flavor was good, plenty of rice, chopped veggies, fried egg on top, pieces of bulgogi. I was scraping the stone bowl with a wooden spoon to get the crisp rice off the bottom and the owner said that was the best part. I know. My friend ordered Jajang Ttobokki, and it came in a cute metal pot, also hot, with plenty of sauce. The rice noodles were thick and chewy and I couldn't pick them up, they kept slipping out of the chopsticks (this is not a fault- just my inadequate chopsticks dexterity). We also split a house kimbap, fresh and delicious, generously portioned. We were served promptly, our dishes came out hot and nice portions. There is broth and side dishes and green tea, gratis, when dining in. Once finished, you clear your table. (That bibimbap stone was still very hot). Nice casual spot for some delicious Korean food. For those who are contemplating the spicy options, do be warned that the spice level, even at level 1 is quite a bit spicier than most of the Asian restaurants in the area. With that said, if you enjoy spicy food this place will definitely hit the spot, especially with the great flavors and ingredient combinations that you can definitely taste the quality in. Service is a bit minimal here as you clean up after yourself after the meal. The Rose tteobokki is probably about the right spice level for most people to enjoy the chewy stir-fried rice cake with a good level of saltiness provided by the fish cake and sausage that's simmered in a creamy spicy sauce. If it's too spicy for you, I'd definitely recommend mixing in some additional rice cakes or other ingredients at home, but don't miss out on this delicious sauce. If you're not ad adventurous though, the bibimbop here is delicious with a tasty mix of radish, mushroom, kale, carrot, bean sprout, and a perfectly fried egg. Though the gochujang is recommended to be mixed in, asking for teriyaki sauce creates a deliciously sweet and non-spicy alternative to enjoy this dish. Overall, quick, simple, and delicious. A small Korean fare restaurant with a few booths and a couple of tables. Take a few steps in to make your order where bulgogi dominates the menu. We selected bulgogi nachos, bulgogi fries, seafood udon, and ramen. The food came out all at once. The nachos were three lonely chips being dressed with bulgogi on top, the bulgogi fries - cheese with sliced beef, fries and little kimchi on the bottom. The broth in the seafood udon was bland where seafood went hiding - only one small muscle and tiny pieces of octopus made it into the bowl. The ramen was similarly bland with chicken potstickers on top joining the company of unimaginative flavor. The unusual presentation of the soups didn't fare well with the contents being just average. I went to Ttobokki Korean Restaurant with my husband and a friend. You order at the counter. I immediately felt pressure, standing in front of the counter while pouring over their extensive menu. I finally decided on the seafood udon. There is house made broth available for those dining in. This broth had a really good flavor to it. When the udon arrived, it was too hot to eat. After letting it sit for ten minutes, it was so too hot to eat. I was forced to order another dish, so I would have something to eat. This is not a good way to show your customers respect. Why, oh WHY, did it take me so long to try this place out? It's literally three minutes from my house. I went with a friend for lunch, and it was DELICIOUS. We both ordered dumpling ramen and split the bulgogi nachos. Everything was so flavorful with just the right amount of spicy kick. No complaints whatsoever the service. Staff was friendly and our food was served in a reasonable amount of time. My only recommendation to the restaurant would be to make the pricing more obvious, but that's a minor thing. I really want to like this restaurant, but I have some major concerns. Hear me out. First of all, it's located very convenient off of Rt 83, by Starbucks and several health clinics, super accessible location, very nice artistic design, hip and modern, cute and Asian. Love the aesthetics. Ordering food via phone was super easy. Staff spoke English and were very helpful and friendly. They explained patiently what their customization looks like. You order a base (pretty cheap but itself), add your desired topping protein ($~3), so the total of any dish is around $10+. Not as cheap as I thought it would be based on the menu alone, but liked the customization. They also have online ordering which looked very functional and easy to navigate, which I'll hopefully try in the future to test it out... Now it comes to the food... which unfortunately is the most disappointing part! The order was supposedly ready in 25 min, which we arrived right around then to pick up. By the time we got home, which was only 10 min away, the foods were cold/stale (I wonder if it had been sitting out for much longer...). Nothing was even lukewarm, but more like room temperature cold. The bulgogi nacho is super stale, it doesn't crunch like any chip. Portion size is also pretty small compare to how much it ends up costing. What I really liked is that for some dishes they used paper containers, which is supposedly more environmentally friendly! Now onto the taste-- their flavor profile is waaaay too sweet and lacked the depth of typical Korean foods. No umami or sesame oil flavor. Quite honestly, I have not had any fusion Asian food this sweet-- not even Thai food. This comment is not specific to any one dish, but all across the board. * Japchae -- this was good at first but again lacked other flavors other than sweet, so it was a bit hard to finish later on. Otherwise, this was not bad. * Bulgogi Nacho (they provide 3) -- chip was very stale, bulgogi was cold and kind of dry. I really think the foods just had been sitting out for a while, there's no way that's how it would taste if made fresh. * Rose Tteobokki -- very minimal fish cake, lots of overly sweet sauce it was overwhelming after a few bites, they had hotdog meat in it but it was generic western sausage rather than Asian sausage, and even the sausage savory couldn't overcome the sweetness. I did like that they added melted cheese up top. * Bibimbop with bulgogi -- as a stable, I'd expect much more quantity, though it's very neatly packed so I think they prioritize aesthetic to the actual taste/quality. The egg though, this is probably the most disappointing fried egg. It's a very tiny egg and very hard. The top layer looked like sunny side but bottom is all cooked through and the top is very dried and kind of leathery. How? This is another cue I think they didn't make this fresh! Quite disappointed... * Cupbop with spicy pork-- this wasn't really what I expected, it's kind of like a smaller version of Bibimbop. Spicy pork was also pretty cold, hard, and dry. Hmm. But I liked the addition of corn, even though the corn was also kind of dry and hard. They said they have a lot of sauce options and can do on the side, and I said I'd try them all on the side, but when I went to pick up the food, they said they couldn't do on the side so they had already added all the sauces in the bop. Ok, that's fine. But when I actually tried to taste it at home, I can't tell at all what they put in it. :/ again, it was all just sweet and no other prominent flavor profiles. I'm left feeling quite confused and dissatisfied. I really want to like this place since there are not a lot of Korean places up north, and it seems like it's Asian run, and I'd really want to support businesses like this, but I can't help but to feel like this is just a young/hip, possibly overpriced place that focuses more on looks than the actual content. I'm not sure if I would try it again, given how overwhelmingly sweet every dish was. I think I'd be willing to try some of their other stuff if they change up their recipes! read more

Had a great experience getting takeout from this place and I'd definitely come back to try more things on the menu. We tried the regular tteokbokki, the rose tteokbokki, spicy pork kimbop, pork katsu kimbop, tempura shrimp kimbop, and Mayo tuna kimbop. What stood out to me the most were their sauces. I will definitely get the rose tteokbokki next time I come. The best tteokbokki I've ever had. A little less spicy than what I'm used to and a bit sweet and creamy. Regular tteokbokki was decent too, but the rose had the additional sweetness, creaminess, and added sausage in it, which made it irresistible. I was literally eating the sauce by itself after and took some of the pizza the kids were eating (not from this restaurant) to dip into this sauce to eat some more ha. The kimbop was decent too. Nothing crazy different about the kimbop in my opinion. It did have perilla leaves in there which made it slightly different, and different varieties of meats, which made it interesting. The Mayo tuna one was the most unique, something I've never had in kimbop. Pretty much like canned tuna in your kimbop. To my surprise, I enjoyed this one a fair amount. What stuck out to me though was the sauce again! Some of the kimbop came with a side dipping sauce of a wasabi cream type of sauce. While ordering, the staff was extremely helpful in making sure they were accommodating my son's allergy. Visiting my friend in the area (from Bay Area, CA), and went to this place for lunch after a hike. It was so satisfying!! Personally, kimbap is something I would always look for in the menu when visiting Korean restaurant. So I knew I would have to check out this place and had a feeling that I would enjoy it -- and I did! We ordered bulgogi kimbap (beef) (around $9), chicken teriyaki kimbap (around $9), and japchae (around $7). Highly recommend the bulgogi kimbap. The seaweed part of the kimbap was crisp and full of seaweed flagrant, which is rare in my kimbap eating experience (usually I get my kimbap from Korean Market). There was a good amount of filling inside, really like the combo; there was multiple texture and flavors to the kimbap, crunchiness from pickle and cucumber, softness from eggroll, unique fragrant from perilla leaf (bulgogi kimbap)... it's warm and it feels good in the stomach. So good!! Chicken teriyaki kimbap and Japchae were great as well, but personally I enjoyed bulgogi kimbap the most! There was also pickled radish, pickled onion and basic soup for free sides. Pickled radish is pretty common, so I have nothing to comment on. But the pickled onion! It reminded me of pickled garlic, but it was in onion form -- Crunchy, sweet, slightly spicy from onion natural spiciness and jalapeño. Would definitely recommend it if you are into this type of taste. Also, personally I think the portion is very filling. My friend and I aren't big eater and so we were very full from what we ordered. Ended up taking the Japchae back for later (my friend likes the japchae, saving it for later when hungry again). For drinks in the fridge, we picked sikhye ($3) and strawberry milk ($3). I highly recommend the sikhye or sweet rice drink, it's so refreshing on a hot day! The cashier/waitress was very friendly and nice! The over vibe of the place was enjoyable and chill. I haven't feel so satisfied eating Korean food in a while (well, because I always just want kimbap and kimbap is not usually on Korean restaurant's menu). Ambience is nice. Tteokbokki looks spicy but isn't really - my opinion. Tasty and simple. Bulgogi kimbap is NOT sushi. It is made in a similar style but everything is cooked. Made well. New joint which recently opened up and the only Korean restaurant in Long Grove. This is a street food-themed restaurant, so don't expect the "traditional" Korean foods like kalbi and bulgogi and the stews/soups. Rather, they focus on street food/bar food type of fare. Tteokbokki (spicy simmered rice cake), kimbop (kind of like Korean maki, but with cooked meats), jun (Korean pancakes), ramen, udon, and more. The menu is actually fairly extensive. We tried a LOT when we went - the seafood pancake, a few varieties of kimbop, the regular tteokbokki, and the soy honey wings. The seafood pancake (haemul jun) was very good. Just the right amount of sear/char, cooked through, and plenty of seafood (mostly squid and shrimp). The kimbop varieties (spicy bulgogi, cooked tuna, and tankatsu) were all satisfying. The addition of the sesame leaf was a great call - love the flavor it adds. Tteokbokki was good. Could be a little spicier with more of a lean toward sweet, but the rice cakes they used are quite good. Nice chew, never got mushy. The star was the soy honey wings. Fried really well, sweet, and delicious. The glaze was excellent, but not overly sticky and messy. The addition of the glazed and fried tteok (rice cakes) and french fries were fantastic. Overall, the food we tried was all very good. Nice addition to the strip mall by Sunset. Only downside right now is that the hours are a bit limited and they don't serve alcohol.
