Galbitang (Beef short rib soup with glass noodles)

We came here on a Friday evening and there was quite a line. Most patrons are Korean, so another good sign that this place is legit. Chicago Galbi House boasts a menu also includes a wide variety of additional Korean specialties (soups, cold noodles, hotpots), making it more than just a BBQ grill spot. For the two of us, we ordered the Silver Combo, which includes galbi, Prime Ribeye, Beef Brisket, Steamed Egg, Soybean SouThe meat quality is clearly a highlight. My wife loved the quality of meat. Plenty of side dishes ("banchan"), and service was good. Personally I'm not a fan of the galbi as I could taste the fat ooze out. But others may like it... it just wasn't really for me. They had these weird flat chopsticks, that for the life of me, I couldn't pick anything up with them. And I grew up using chopsticks! Overall good food. At the end, they gave us a taro/vanilla iced cream cone and it was a great way to finish the meal.

Omgoodness. So good. I am Korean and I lurve Korean food. The service was good. I'm assuming cuz we were with my Korean mom and she speaks the language. The food was exceptional. The place was very... KOREAN. I don't know how else to describe it. ‍ But it's all good. I like it. Good times. Lot for parking.

We started eating before I remembered to take pics. Seafood pancake, tofu and soybean soup, steamed egg, and part of our Silver Combo

Let me start off by saying the staff at Chicago Galbi House are the sweetest, most humble, and welcoming staff I have ever come across at any establishment! We were greeted warmly and with such a big smile that we immediately felt so welcomed! The restaurant was spacious and bright. There was ample ventilation. The music was soft and nothing was overly loud which allowed us to enjoy our meal and conversation! The tables are comfortable with plenty of room for the entrees, banchan, and drinks. Hubs and I had dinner reservations on a Friday night at 6pm and we were seated right away at a table with a Reserved table tent. Immediately we felt seen and appreciated. Our host, who we think is the owner / manager, was so kind to give us a quick run through of menu and options available, as well as to tell us all their meats are Prime grade. If we had any questions we could ask our server or anyone else. Our server came shortly to see if we had any questions. We ordered the beef tartar and seafood pancake to start. My husband said that is the beef tartar he has ever had and he's enjoyed it lots of different restaurants! The seafood pancake was crispy and filled with seafood. The dipping sauce complimented it so well. We decided to try an assortment of their meats so we ordered the Silver Combo with the marinated galbi, prime ribeye, beef brisket, steamed egg, and soybean soup. It also came with a good selection of banchans and rice. Everything was phenomenal! The meat was tender and our server helped us get started by putting meats on the grill. The steamed egg was so fluffy, soft, and flavorful I could have made that my whole meal! We had so much food! Our server came back a few times and helped us cook our meats or helped trim our cuts to keep them crispy. Overall, our meal was definitely worth every cent and there was SO MUCH FOOD! When the menu says it feeds 2/3, they were not kidding! We left full and happy. We will definitely be back to try some of their specialties like Mountain Bulgogi and Korean Army Stew. There's so much in choices, we can't wait to try other dishes and bring friends with us to eat all the food!

It's a great Korean restaurant! Good location. The food was delicious and traditional taste, just liked the food I tried in Korea. Services were also nice! I really felt welcomed. Especially, they provided an ice cream after meal. So sweet of them! LOVE this place!

A very unique BBQ spot--Galbi House is massive inside, almost unexpectedly spacious for a Korean BBQ joint. What really threw me (in the best way) was the music: they played Chopin the entire time. Yes, Chopin! Romantic piano pieces floating through the air while you grill meat. It was oddly elegant...until Nocturne No. 20 came on and I found myself eating budae jjigae to a melancholic waltz. That was a moment. Taste-wise? Just okay. The meats and stew were passable but not memorable. However, the service was top-notch--attentive, fast, and very kind. Come for the experience, not necessarily the flavor.

-gamjatang 감자탕 was just okay; pork was tender but the pieces were chopped up weird, wasn't spicy, potato was grainy -대구탕 daegutang soup was a good amount of spicy but flavor itself was lacking -I like that they use purple rice -Galbi (not grilled kbbq but the dish) was also just okay -I liked their kimchi -overall mid experience

Was in desperate need of something comforting to fight through the cold. This place didn't disappoint! We ordered the Haemultang and Haejangguk and both were SO good and authentic! We also ordered the Galbi (not pictured) and Brisket. Would probably skip the Brisket the next time I come. Service was super friendly too which is a plus!

First time coming here and since I came alone, I decided to just order soup for the cold weather. My all-time favorite Korean soup is soondubu. I ordered the seafood soondubu. Love it. Love the banchans and the hot tea. Will have to come back for the actual bbq.

Food is good and authentic. You know it's decent when you have bunch of older 1st generation Koreans eating at a Korean restaurant. Service is good, and they respond quickly. Been here few times now with the family and no complaints as the ambiance is super casual.

I had dolsot bibimbap and the seafood pancake and they were both really good. I am korean so i would say the taste is pretty authentic. The service was great! Everyone was very friendly and always brought everything I needed. It's very clean inside and a lot of seating is available. I would definitely come back.

We were there for valentine's night. Food and service are awesome! We tried the $115 combo, it comes with 3 kind of beef, steamed egg in stone pot, rice and soup. And also tried spicy cold noodle, it's super chewy! We love it!

What we got this time: Tteuk manduguk - Rice cake and dumpling soup. This is not spicy and has a nice deep flavor. This one has seaweed and tendrils of silky egg ribboned throughout. Our kids love this. Haemul kalguksu - Seafood noodle soup. This broth was so nice. Also not spicy. It comes with shrimp, octopus and crab legs. The seafood was cooked so-so, and I think I prefer clams and mussels, but the broth was delicious and like a warm hug. They gave extra soup in a separate container too, which was very thoughtful. Bonus: the braised potato banchan is so good--our kids could eat the whole thing. Definitely worth trying whether you dine in or take it home.

Our Combo was $100 and included miso or seaweed soup, rice, banchan and four kinds of meat: marinated bulgogi, short rib, ribeye and brisket. Delicious Delicious. The banchan was tasty tasty. I especially liked the pickled cucumber and the kimchi. Some of the reviews said they were charged extra for refills on the banchan dishes. We were not. What a feast. The server loaded up our grill with brisket and would leave and come back to flip things or turn things although we were pretty capable of doing it ourselves. They very nicely cut our ribeye into bite-sized pieces with the kitchen shears and also snipped up the short rib. The meat was delicious and the banchan and rice soon filled us up. We used the green leafy lettuce to make ssambap. I also liked the sauce with the sesame oil and salt. The bulgogi was last and we had to dig deep to finish it. What I liked was that nothing stuck to the grill and nothing burned either. I've had kbbq before at other places where it was too hot and the meat was burned. Everything was cooked perfectly. There was another table where flames shot up from the grill but the staff quickly went over to help. The staff was friendly and efficient. The banchan was plentiful and tasty. The portions of meat were pretty generous and good quality. Although pricy, I feel we got a lot of food and the meat was excellent because we cooked it ourselves :). So good so good. My favorite of the night was the rose tteokbokki. The tteokbokki was perfectly chewy and I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce. The popcorn chicken was also good and paired well with the sauce it came with. The bossam was on the dry side and the seafood pancake was pretty standard. The fries were good but wouldn't pay $10 for a basket of fries if we came back next time. The corn cheese was also good but the plate was small. There was a call button at each table which was convenient. Food came out individually as it was ready instead of all at once which was to be expected for our party size.

Since then, we have happily added Drop the Bop to our takeout rotation list. What is so amazing is, both our daughter and myself are not into salads or veggies, and each time we pick Drop the Bop is like a small miracle. There has never been a bowl of fast food made of fresh veggies and meats and rice that tastes so great, and make us feel so good after eating it, but Drop the Bop does it! My husband and daughter picked the All-In bowls from the Yelp experience, and I had the build-a-bowl. Since then, we have been purchasing the All-In bowls every time. All the different ingredients are so fresh and delicious, they contribute to make a complex tapestry of tastes and textures, but all work together harmoniously. We always pick the black rice that has similar texture to sushi rice, that tastes fantastically and holds everything well together. Hubby and Daughter like the carpaccio sauce the best, that is light and not overpowering, while I favor the Yum Yum sauce as it is just yummy! We all like the seaweed soup that is delicious and not too salty. Drop the Bop is a hidden gem in Lincolnshire. Phillip, the young owner, always works so hard and is very resourceful. Since we were introduced to Drop the Bop two years ago via a Yelp Community Experience, we have been returning from time to time to get their bowls. Each bowl contains bop (rice) with your choices of veggies and meats similar to Korean bibimbap! What makes DTB stands out from other businesses is that their ingredients are consistently very fresh, the bowls are delicious with generous portions. They offer the most healthy and delicious fast food that our family love! We love their All-In bowls that contain every veggie and meat that you can think of, and we choose black rice instead of white rice as the yummy base. I usually pick the Carpaccio sauce (out of 8 different sauces) on the side, which provides a "fresh citrus taste combined with olive oil and a hint of jalapeño and black pepper" that has a nice kick to the bowl. I always pick the seaweed soup over miso soup as well. Phillip, who is the very friendly owner of DTB, seems to be always working there. I saw him every time I went to pick up our orders. Funny thing was that he gave me a punch card that offered buy 10 bowls get one for free. I have misplaced several of those cards. Phillip said that I could combine several of those cards to get a free bowl once the total slots punched add to 10. It would be OK with me that I never find all my cards to get that offer. To me, the bowls at DTB is worth every penny, and I don't mind paying full price for each one of them.

Arrived at a nearby hotel last night and was curious about the Tomahawk BBQ Steakhouse, and did not…read morerealize it was Korean BBQ until into the parking lot. I was immediately seated in a booth with a grill right in front of the bar with two large video monitors of Korean pop music going with the boys and girls dance vids constantly going. The decorum had the feel of an upscale Asian bistro bar, nicely done. I was a bit disappointed with the meats. A couple of the pieces had gristle and fat that I simply left on the plate. The Kimchi was some of the best I have had...and the garlic chicken wings were fabulous. The key feature of their system is ordering based upon pictures on a tablet. It seems that portions pictured are typically enough for two people to share. There were several dishes I ordered that brought larger quantity than I thought was a single portion...so if you are eating alone, take into consideration that you may end up with more than you might have expected. ONE last note...the Miso Soup was excellent.

I love a place that delivers consistency. Every time we come Tomahawk BBQ, it does just that. We…read moreknow exactly what to expect -- and the experience and food have been solid each visit. My family and I came to celebrate an early Valentine's Day and treated ourselves to a nice dinner. I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. We booked ours and were promptly seated at 6:30 PM on a Friday night with no wait. Don't you love when things run smoothly like that? We ordered multiple rounds for our family of 4 using the iPad and through the night, I'd say the foods arrived under or around five minutes. There's a 2-hour dining limit, and we used all of it. The iPad conveniently shows a countdown timer once you're seated, so you know exactly how much time you have left. It's especially helpful toward the end when you're deciding whether to squeeze in one last dessert order. I also really appreciate the transparency of their ordering system. The pricing is clearly displayed on the iPad as you select items, so you always know what you're ordering and whether something is included in the AYCE menu. On one of our other visits, I accidentally tapped an item à la carte that was outside of our AYCE menu and saw the charge immediately on the screen. I notified management right away, and they removed it promptly. This kind of system helps prevent surprise charges at the end of the meal. At the end, they print out a detailed receipt of everything you ordered -- it almost feels like a "trophy receipt." It really reinforces how much food you get for the price and how far your money stretches here. Also note that gratuity was not automatically added (for our party of 4) so we were able to write in our tip. There's a wide variety included in the AYCE menu. That said, on this particular visit they had run out of a few items -- calamari rings, hot and sour soup, house salad, and a couple others. It wasn't a huge disappointment, though I was personally looking forward to the hot and sour soup. I did notice they've added some new appetizers like fried chicken wings. They also offer familiar kid-friendly items such as fries, chicken nuggets, and fried dumplings, which is great for families. Overall, the selection is plentiful -- plenty of beef, chicken, and seafood, more than you can realistically eat. Throughout your meal, staff will offer to change the grill (which is definitely needed after a while since it gets dark and charred). They spray some kind of a protective layer on it - my guess is so the meat doesn't stick. There seem to be two types of grills they rotate between -- one for general meats and one better suited for thinner cuts. My personal favorite is the Hawaiian beef bulgogi with pineapple. I also enjoy the spicy calamari and mini sausages. The garlic shrimp was another standout -- large and very flavorful. You really get your money's worth here. This has become one of our go-to spots for family celebrations. My husband especially loves it -- and that says a lot. We've been to many Korean BBQ places, and this is the only one where he's consistently satisfied with the meat quality, marinades, and sauces. He's very particular about flavor profiles, so that's high praise. The table height is also ergonomically comfortable, which really matters when you're cooking and eating for so long. The tables themselves are large and spacious, making it easy to hold the numerous small plates that come with all the different ingredients. We enjoy the ambiance here as it's trendy and well kept. Service is attentive -- staff clear plates promptly, offer grill changes, and are easy to reach when needed. You can also request assistance directly from the iPad which makes things seamless. It was cool to see they still have claw machines in the waiting area, which is a fun bonus for families. On our way out, they also had toothpicks and candy available. Small touches like that are appreciated. This visit was interesting because they had someone walking around offering complimentary printed photos with a Tomahawk-themed template. Additional prints with a frame were available for purchase ($20). Lastly, I wrote in my review a year ago and suggested a loyalty dining program. Since then, we have dined here a few more times but I haven't heard anything yet on this visit. We would still love for them to launch something! :)

I still enjoy the big pieces of fish and mix of cucumbers, avocado, seaweed with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. There was a time it included edamame but doesn't look like it is included anymore. My kids ordered the spider roll, dragon roll and beef udon that came with a california roll. The rolls were a good size and had a good ratio of rice to other ingredients. The pieces of sashimi are good sized with appropriate amount of rice in each piece. The salmon kama is a nice appetizer. It comes out scorching hot and crispy. It can be tricky to eat because of the bones, but worth the work! I really like the design of the booths with the authentic decor resembling Japanese architecture. I don't like that the tables are consistently sticky when we eat there and if we don't get a booth, the tables are wobbly. No matter where we sit, there is always a table with a wobbly leg. The service is always super welcoming and friendly. Our waiter may have been new and still in training because we waited 24 mins from when we asked for the check until it was brought to us. And even then, I had to ask the busboy to remind our server for the check because he kept walking in and out of the room taking other tables' orders and refilling water. Upon realizing the long waiting time, the server was apologetic and still very kind which I appreciated. As we were leaving all the other staff made a point to say thank yous and good byes.
