Staff was efficient and quietly went about serving politely from coffee, water and drinks to taking orders and serving food. The food was excellent. I was excited to go to The Tulip cafe for brunch with my family. I'd been there before and had a great experience. I'm not sure what changed but I've never been treated so poorly before. The place was dead with only one other small group, but the bartender/server did t seem to want to be bothered. My sister had to go up to the bar and ask for a water. He left her standing there while he finished discussing his vacation with other patrons. When he finally came over to our table we tried to order decaf cappuccino or decaf coffee but they didn't have either. He said if we want decaf we can have mint or ginger tea, not the same at all! It doesn't seem unreasonable to ask for decaf at brunch but apparently they don't want to bother with it. Instead of apologizing or trying to be accommodating in any way he told us the Echo restaurant down the street serves breakfast and maybe we should go there. We weren't rude or snotty in anyway but he was as dismissive as they come. If this is how he treats all of his customers I can see why the place was empty. BTW, excellent food and service at Echo, looks like we have a new brunch spot so I guess I should thank him for the recommendation! read more

If you like being called a "little bitch" by your server/manager or made fun of for dying of cancer by the owner, then this restaurant is great! However, if you like being treated like a decent human being, then I highly suggest you stay far far away. Let me explain... First of all, their name is Tulip Cafe & Creperie. When we went, there was not a single crepe to be found on the menu. We asked if there was a breakfast menu and the waiter just said "no" as if we were annoying him by asking and walked away. Then he returned with warm tap water. My friend ordered the lamb kabob for $26. For that price in a dumpy little town restaurant, you'd think you'd get more than 4 small pieces of lamb. But the serving was pretty pathetic. We politely asked the server if the order was correct because it was so small. He rudely said "That's what you ordered. Now eat it." He dismissed any attempt at trying to reconcile the situation responding to all our questions with a similarly dismissive answer before storming away. We called the manager over, expecting that he may have been better trained in customer service. Instead, he called my friend a "little bitch" and said he was "throwing a temper tantrum" when my friend just calmly asked a question. The manager then snatched the plate off the table, stacked a filthy, used plate on top of my friend's uneaten food and screamed in his face "You lost your chance to eat this. And you WILL pay for it." A few minutes later I gave him a chance to apologize and he said "if you act like a little bitch, I'm gonna call you a little bitch." Crunched for time before a flight, my friend was left to beg for his food back and eat the contaminated meal. And it wasn't even good. Having worked in the restaurant industry, I kindly emailed the owners to alert them of this unacceptable behavior from their staff. Not only was the behavior extremely uncalled for, but stacking a dirty dish on top of an uneaten meal violates health codes, especially during a global pandemic. I sent the email to do them a favor, expecting nothing in return. However, the response I received from the owner was incredibly shocking. You can read my polite, objective email below, as well as the 6 responses she sent me. There were more, and she's still emailing me. In fact, as I write this sentence I just got another email. There have been more than 10 total. I think I responded to like 2 of them, but they just keep coming. In one of them, she made fun of a customer because he complained about her fries and then recently died of cancer. She's probably going to respond to this review with something nasty too like she's done to other reviews. I'd expect nothing less of her at this point. So if you've read this far and still want to eat here... good luck. Don't get the lamb kabob. read more

We came here for lunch and we were glad we could sit outside at one of the small outdoor tables. The staff were all wearing masks, but you do have to go inside to place your order. There were various food options including several turkish/mediterranean dishes. We tried the curry ginger chicken wrap and the lachmajun (turkish ground lamb flatbread) and both were delicious! I thought the chai tea could've been sweeter but that might be more a matter of preference. We were glad to find a casual cafe with good food that wasn't too expensive. Can not WAIT to come back when things are open for seating. Food was ready less than 20 minutes after order, person working was in a good mood, courteous, and prompt. The food was beyond words. My partner and I split a Kafte wrap and a chicken and Brie wrap. The Kafte was seasoned with flavorful juices providing moisture but not soaking the wrap. Looked at the menu and decided to call in for take out. Turkey pesto panini: I had it on multi grain bread and it also came with a pickle and potato chips. Good smoky taste from the turkey and the bread was a nice crisp, the pesto was just right.. perfect for a light lunch that you couldnt feel guilty about. The only thing I regret is not getting some soup to dunk my panini in... Service: quick and the food was already to go, waiting for me to come pick up! Calling in an order is well worth it! Downsides: dont sit down outside unless your a customer...or the owner will come and tell you that you cant sit there... by chance make sure your wearing church clothes... (I'm not kidding like who in they're right mind does that! Friggin small towners dont run a business if your going to judge customer's coming in who are paying your effin bills!) The Tulip has a great vibe. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and welcoming. And all the meals I've had here in my short time have been very good. Bonus: Many of the menu items are naturally gluten free. I would eat there several times a week if I could. The salmon crepes are highly recommended. The farmer's market (spinach mushroom goat cheese) omelet, the Istanbul sammie, and the colcannon cakes were delicious. The stuffed blueberry French toast was beautiful. My only regret is that it was so generously topped with the blueberry compote that maple syrup was not necessary. I'll have to try the plain French toast next time. read more

This afternoon I had lunch at the Tulip Cafe with a coworker and found this restaurant to be pretty good. This shop has an amazing selection of crepes as well as an extensive list of sandwiches. I had the pleasure of trying their "3 Cheese" sandwiches which was delicious. The bread was toasted to perfection and there was the perfect amount of items in the sandwich. The other great thing is that the meal came with a pickle and chips, which were both great as well. The service at this restaurant was a bit slow, but overall the experience was great. My daughter and I tried to have lunch here recently. When we walked in, there didn't appear to be a host stand. The first server we passed asked if we were eating there, when I said yes, she gestured towards the tables and told us if we could find an empty table we could sit. No offer to help, or get us menus. So we sat ourselves and waited. And waited. No one appeared to greet us or offer menus or water. So we left. My husband and I stopped by for lunch on our way through town. We ordered an artichoke heart chicken crepe and roast beef sandwich. We were underwhelmed. Not terrible, but lacking in flavor. The crepe, being bland and not a lot of food, was probably worth $7 (though even at that price I wouldn't chose it again) but it cost $13.99. Not gross by any means, but extremely disappointing at that price. The roast beef sandwich was nothing special. My husband got a mocha which he liked, from my sip it wasn't terrible or amazing. I had the bottomless coffee(so I tried 2 of the 3 brews they had out) they had pikes place and esselon, who both make good coffee(especially esselon) but these brews were WEAK. I suffered through the first cup hoping for better luck with a different kind, barely took a sip of the second. The service was good, and the place was pleasant. But overall if we are spending $34 for lunch I want to be quite full and/or have my tastebuds tickled. I got neither. read more

Hi, Been going to Tulip for years. Last time today. I was alone at opening time and I played a song on my phone on very low. The waiter politely asked me to use ear buds, I didn't have them so turned the song off immediately and continued waiting for my friend. I heard the person I assume to be the owner swearing about speaker phones a few minutes later. I approached the counter and said, "what's wrong, I turned it off". He swore at me and then when I said I couldn't believe he was talkin that way to me he said, "Believe it m-----f---er" Don't know what's going on but I'm actually a little scared to go back. The tulip cafe gets three stars because the first time I went, I met the owner. She is unbelievably lovely and the Nutella banana crepe was all I hoped it would be! Great addition to downtown. I had been trying to get back before 6pm (when they close) to have another and made it today only to be met by a short-haired woman who sharply informed me that food was not available after 4pm. When I said I hadn't known, she was very hostile and said "there's no signage for it"...not to apologize but as if I should have known! Best breakfast I've had in a loooong time, maybe ever. Started with an iced coffee, which was good, but tried my friend's hazelnut latte, which was the best latte I've ever had. It was slightly sweet, creamy, and the beautiful leaf pattern in the foam was gorgeous. It made me stand right up from the table and go order a hazelnut latte for myself. (I was certainly high on caffeine when I left after the iced AND the latte, however!) I had the 'Istanbul Sammy' which was an egg sandwich with tomato and kalamata olive spread on a Turkish roll called Pide (Pee-day). Oh my word, this bread is DELICIOUS! The texture is chewy but it sort of resembles a large english muffin and was soo good. I went to the counter to ask if they make the bread in house. They actually have it delivered a few times a week from New Jersey. So. Good. I also gave the Turkish hot pepper sauce a try that they had at the condiment shelf and once again I found myself getting up from the table to help myself to more. It tasted like fresh roasted peppers and wasn't too spicy or salty. Added just the right taste to the sandwich. My friend and I split the Raspberry Custard Crepe for dessert to our breakfast and it was perfect. The crepe had just the right texture, not too eggy or cakey. The filling was fresh raspberries with a light custard and I'm drooling now just thinking of it. There were lots of gluten free options and they served other lunch items that I can't wait to go back and try. If only I were closer to Brattleboro right now. The only downfall that I noticed was that they don't open until 9 on Saturdays. This is a place worth visiting at the crack of dawn. Yum. read more

The bright space now known as the Tulip Cafe has only recently opened in March, 2013, in the old location of Coffee Country, but now easily accessible from both Harmony Lot and Elliot Street. Its menu is limited but reasonably effective -- think crepes, paninis, salads, and coffees and you have the idea. After a few visits and sampling half of the menu we can report they are hit or miss. Had wonderful crepes one day (spinach and feta, nutella), sad, soppy, cold uncooked ones the next (roasted peppers and the eggplant). Salads delightful and fresh at one visit could be limp and lifeless the next (grilled chicken). Their Turkish coffee (a nice surprise) may be bitter or naturally sweet - depends on the day. Espresso and chai drinks available. There's not much unique about Tulip Cafe, so if you're serving paninis and salads you had better do them well, because those can be had nearly anywhere these days (including bagel houses). Pleasant and helpful counter and kitchen staff. It's a nice location, now pleasantly expanded, (though currently with some really bad art as of April 2013). They still have some kinks to work out, as do most new restaurants. Meanwhile we wish them well and look forward to consistency (and some better artwork!), and we'll be back in a month or so. read more

Came here late on Saturday morning with, I admit it, a teeny tiny hangover. First of all, you might not ever find it unless you have local friends who are Tulip addicts (it's off on a side street next to a parking lot). But Tulip is well worth seeking out. I have not had a real galette since that dreamy semester of my junior year in Paris. I will not bring Guillaume into this review, even though he made the best galettes in France, because it was quite a few years ago and I have mostly forgotten the boy, although it all came back to me sinking my teeth into a very close approximation to a French galette (for those of you who don't know, it is a crepe made with buckwheat flour, a bit coarser and more substantial and delicious.) Rolled and stuffed with a variety of savory fillings. In this case, the very traditional Bretagne ham and egg with cheese (I'll pardon the cheddar, it's usually gruyere). Absolutely delicious. Almost as big a surprise was the coffee, also very strong and French. It all did wonders for my hangover. And there was an impossibly beautiful young woman seen who supposedly ran the place. Yep, the place is another new agey-hippy divey feel - mismatched, not an elegant local. The killer for the deal is the FOOD! And so friendly service.
