My family loves tulsi! Favorite Indian restaurant in Richmond. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is always clean.

I had high expectations for this place when I read the reviews, but the moment I walked in and sat down it went slowly downhill. The waiter sat me down and did not come back for another 15 minutes. Ontop of that the order was messed up even after it took us a lot of time to order conversating. To mention the food, I ordered the aloo paratha with my entree and it was absolutely terrible. The only thing in the paratha was turmeric and no flavor and almost no potato at all. A paratha is not this at all and is supposed to have a completely different look ad flavor. This is con food for people who are not aware of true desi culture food. When I received the food as well, it was nothing but salty and not flavorful. I also love a good spice and I quickly realized the way this place spiced their food would take away way too much from the actual flavor of the food. I was highly disappointed. read more

This place was amazing. I'm very conflicted because I cannot decide on whether it is better than Lemon or not. Either way it is probably the best Indian restaurant in Richmond. Tulsi has a great location in the middle of carytown. The venue is very beautiful and clean. The portion size was good and I did not feel bloated after (like you will with some Indian food). I had been dying to try this place since I'm such a fan of Indian food. I walked in around 6:25 PM on a Sunday, and was ignored for about 10 minutes because I was sitting alone. It is now approaching 7:30 and I've only been served my appetizer, which I had to beg and ask for when I saw people who arrived after me served. I am highly upset as I feel my time wasn't valued. Please hire more staff or step up the customer service! I could've went to Mom Siam's and had my food by now. read more

I throughly enjoyed every bite! It was possibly the best Indian food I've ever had. I had vegetable pakoras as an appetizer, vegetable korma with basmati rice, side of naan and raita. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. read more

Just Ok. Not great not bad. A little pricey for the quality. Chicken in the tikka masala was tough and not spicy enough. Garlic Naan order was small but rice was included with the tikka masala order which is rare, usually have to order it separately. Veggie Samosas was the best thing I ate from the order. I tried tulsi out earlier this week and it was great! It was my first time trying out Indian food and I got the butter chicken. The butter chicken was full of flavor, the chicken was super tender. I also got a cucumber salad that was very refreshing. The garlic nan was delicious. Also, our server Nani was very attentive. Definitely trying out this place again! read more

The food was absolutely fantastic, prepared quickly, and they even brought it out to the car for us! I can't say enough good things about this place. I have been coming here regularly since they first opened. I've never had a bad meal. The food is fantastic and the service is always solid. Recently, I placed a take out order and they made an innocent mistake and gave me the wrong food. It was nonetheless delicious. When I called to politely complain the owner immediately apologized and the next time I ordered food I got a ton of extra stuff. These people are great! I can't recommend this place enough!!! So good! Tried for the first time tonite. They took our temp on arrival, odd but ok. We had the vegetarian combo appetizer, vindaloo, Karachi (I think), a mixed bread basket. This place has, hands down, the best Indian food I have ever had, and is definitely the best you're going to find in Richmond. Very nice and well decorated resteraunt, food was good and our server was nice. All was good until we spotted a roach crawling on my sisters jacket that she had taken off and set on the booth. Our waiter shook it out and stepped on the roach and just brought us a free desert. We then saw another roach on the wall decoration above our booth and did not want to finish our food after that. Tulsi is our go to Indian place in town. The food is always tasty, and the menu has a huge variety. It's nestled in carytown, and pretty Covid we would probably eat in half the time and take out the other half. Now with Covid they're back open, but only taking phone orders. Hubs is obsessed with their gobi Manchurian, and swears by the chicken tikka masala. We also enjoy the chicken konkani, and the veggie option we fondly call "peas and cheese." Absolutely fantastic food!!! I've always complained that there wasn't a great Indian restaurant in the Near West End, but Tulsi has ended that question. The staff is wonderful...attentive & friendly. The menu is a twist on traditional Indian food and I liked the fact that I had to ask what some of the dishes were. Usually I know them all. The Food: Very good Indian. Solid prices. Did not disappoint. The Service: RUDE. Our "waitress" was a willful disaster. From the moment we walked in the door she was inexplicably rude and insincere and from then on made sure to keep things just as uncomfortable and awkward as possible. It was not always what she said, but how she said it that came across as stupid and unwelcoming. The male waitress who came by at a couple points didn't fare much better. To top off all of this idiocy, when the end of the meal came around, I put my coat on because, well, I was ready to go and the check was nowhere in sight. After a little while, when they finally returned to our table, I was greeted by our lovely waitress with a "Well, I can see you're all ready to go, so I'll get the check." And again, the delivery is what really left a bad taste in the mouth. Didn't it occur to her that perhaps I was just cold? No, of course not. She immediately jumped to the correct conclusion but from nothing more than the seeming desire to be ugly and totally without tact or common sense. I'm perplexed as to what leads people to work in the service industry who have not an inkling of a desire to be of service to others... maybe because they can't get any other job, but then they should TRY HARDER. read more

A nice new addition to Carytown. I was a little sad to see they got rid of the fun lights that Yapple and Spiral Noodle had but they definitely classed the joint up! Overall, the service was excellent but the food was only okay. We got the Chili Paneer and Gobhi Manchurian to start, and asked for both of them to be made spicy but neither were and the amount of food you got for the price, I'd say wasn't worth it. For my main dish I got the Bhindi. Again, we asked for it to be made extra spicy but it was mild at best. It also seemed like whoever made the dish wasn't familiar with preparing okra because it came out kind of slimy. While I thought my food was meh, a few of my other meat eating friends really enjoyed their selection of the Goat Vindaloo. I'm going to chalk it up to the fact that they're new and maybe not producing consistently good food yet and give them another try in the future. read more

holy yum, I am so happy I found a place to regularly order from. Goodbye lemon cuisine! Everything arrived quick, hot and fresh. Portions are large which is great news for poor students who thin out their soup and live off of weeks-old leftovers (moi).... but I digress. I loved their cauliflower naan and chicken marsala. Heat level at spicy is just right, without being the overly powerful kind that makes your gut scream. Chicken birayni was not as good as I hoped -- I have never seen squash and long sticks of carrots in birayni before and didn't really enjoy them. I will be sure to try other dishes soon! This review is for delivery service. I was excited to see that this restaurant was on UberEats. On a Friday night I ordered paneer masala (my go to order at any Indian restaurant) and chicken masala for my husband. Each entree came with a huge amount of rice. I also ordered the garlic naan. I really appreciated that you can customize the level of heat for each entree. I found the paneer masala with medium heat to my exact comfort level of spice. My husband said his chicken masala was the best Indian entree he has ever ordered. I'm holding back a star because the food was a bit cold. The naan could use a bit more butter too. However I will definitely order again and try the restaurant in person. read more

We stumbled into this place because the people looked happy and there are always vegan options at Indian establishments (recently vegan). Our waitress was super helpful. We got a couple of Indian beers. We were served with this crispy bread with an assortment of sauces. Very flavorful and delicious. We got some garlic and green chili naan. Also chickpea/spinach entree and Bhindi (okra with peppers). Super delicious! The gave us a re-up on rice when we ran out. The entrees come a variety of heat spicy. If you have the guts, try the Indian Spicy. This is the hottest option. The enterior is clean and spacious for large groups. Definitely going again.
