The only thing that tops the food here is the incredible service! My order was taken promptly, and my food came out quickly, even with a substitution. I ordered Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan and Palak Paneer (Creamed spinach and cheese) and substituted Aloo (potatoes) for the Paneer (cheese) with no hesitation. It came with Biryani rice and they ask you what level of spice you want for each dish. EVERYTHING was delicious! Wow- truly amazing food. Got chicken korma and masala along with kheer to-go for a celebration dinner and it was delicious. Not too far off I-95 so it is nicely located for pass through travelers. Our family is Indian so we eat a lot of Indian food and we all thought the flavors were excellent. I must say the decor was very nice too. My only criticism would be leaving feeling snubbed because we had a two year old who eats slowly and we were rushed out at 3:15 because lunch ended at 3. They also wanted to charge us three dollars for a glass warm milk for the baby. Even though the food was nice, I would not bring my family to Tulsi again. read more

Overall I had a positive experience here. The food is amazing and the servers and staff are all very friendly and attentive. My only complaint is that at times they were a little too attentive. What can I say, hands down the best Indian cuisine I've encountered in my 26 years on this planet. My girlfriend and I decided to try Tulsi after a verbal recommendation. This restaurant is immaculate as far as being clean and the decor is very nice. Service was great from start to finish. I ordered the Costal Coconut curry with chicken "Indian hot" and it was absolutely delicious and very spicy ! (Which I love) Everything tasted extremely fresh. My girlfriend ordered the normal curry with chicken and this as well was delicious. We also ordered Naan with garlic that was perfect. I would highly recommend Tulsi to anyone that likes Indian food. This is the best Indian food my wife and I have had in Richmond so far. The butter chicken and chicken karahi were very good, but would have been better with dark meat. The rice they serve with entrees comes with whole cardamom seeds sprinkled throughout, so be careful not to bite into one unless you don't mind the woody texture and strong flavor. I seldom give 5 stars on my first visit, it was either a 4 or 5 & a 4 didn't seem right. Important stuff first, the food was excellent. I had the chicken curry. That's my "go to" meal to compare restaurants. The service seemed a bit disjointed but it worked. Everyone was very friendly & polite on staff. Our server was extremely helpful in seeing that what we wanted we received.that was the key to 5 stars. My wife had an eggplant dish. It tasted great. Lastly on the food, we enjoyed the 3 Naan basket, quite Yummy. Toasted garlic was a winner. All in all it was a very delightful evening w/ great friends. This is a nice looking restaurant. Good choice for Indian food! Went here for the second time and got the chicken masala while my boyfriend got the vindaloo with goat. The chicken masala was excellent but the goat was very chewy and had a lot of bones, next time he said he'd stick with chicken. We wandered in Labor Day and were very pleasantly surprised. After the turnover this space has had the last few years let me be the first to say I hope Tulsi is here for good. The ambience looks better from the inside than out but what brings the whole thing together is the quality of the food which reminds you of back home. I found the joint a bit pricey, however it is a definite choice for those special occasions.And though one might find the quantity pretentious especially without any complimentary appetizers and situated in a dull neighborhood with lousy parking. Authentic, flavorful, well-presented dishes. The stuffed naan breads were amazing! They must have a clay tandoori oven in the back from the crispiness and char on the bread. Tandoori chicken sizzled to our table as the we caught a whiff of the fragrant smoke. Lamb Rogan Josh so tender and packed with spices and aromatics. Side chutneys complemented each and every dish.
