Absolutely unacceptable. We waited 20 minutes just to be seated as a party of two, despite there being plenty of open tables. When we were finally seated, the table was dirty, there were no utensils, no menus, and not even water. Multiple servers walked past us, yet no one acknowledged us or took our order. After another 10 minutes without any service whatsoever, we left. The experience was so poor that it honestly made us question whether we were being treated differently. As an Asian customer dining with my Black friend, it was difficult not to wonder if our race played a role in how we were ignored. I can't say for certain, but that's how the experience felt. We spent nearly an hour in the restaurant and never even had the chance to place an order. We left hungry, frustrated, and shocked by the complete lack of service. Phenomenal brunch experience on a Friday morning with my hubby! I specifically came here because I wanted scrambled eggs and they have the best in town. I got the Go Jags plate which included two scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage link and a biscuit and gravy! Everything was made to perfection, eggs were soft and fluffy and the biscuit was made from scratch. My husband got the Family Affair which is a crispy chicken biscuit sandwich with gravy and scrambled eggs with a side of fruit. My husband demolished his meal. There was lively music playing and it was a great vibe inside. I sat at the bar and was helped by Brian, who was amazing. I ordered a coffee and the Tulua Bowl. The coffee was hot and fresh, and the bowl was cooked very well with fresh ingredients. The grits in the bowl did not have a lot of flavor, however the fresh toppings definitely helped and made it a solid dish. After looking at reviews online I couldn't wait to try the food. What a complete disappointment. The food was mediocre at best. The biscuits were hard and dried out. After complaining about the 1st one, the waiter brought me another one and it was dry and crumbling in the center. Before I could say anything the customer behind me stopped the waiter and complained about the same thing. He brought her another biscuit as well and I heard her tell him that it was just as bad as the other one. The waiter stated he would advise the kitchen and blamed the biscuits on overheating. The problem is they weren't fresh, they were old. My grits were watered down with no flavor. My bacon was barely cooked and the turkey sausage was overcooked. At 1st I thought it was me, but I heard the customer behind me tell her daughter that it was the worst meal she has had and would need to purchase another meal when they felt. She indicated that the only positive was that her 3 year old daughter enjoyed the pancakes. I turned around and said to her that my meal was awful as well and that I too would have to stop at another location for food. To add insult to injury, this place adds 18% gratuity to all checks regardless of the size of your party. I did not realize it until I got my check. I was told that they place this message at the very bottom of the menu. I missed it. Anyway, for the price of the food you can eat at so many other breakfasts places. We stopped in for a quick bite. The staff was running around because they were trying to accommodate large groups coming in to eat. The coffee was delicious! The decor is fun and bright. I had the veggie bowl served over grits and it was a large portion and flavorful. The omelette lacked substance and filler. The toast options are very limited. I got the Not Your Basic B**ch with over easy eggs, feta, and crispy bacon atop avocado , with pico on top of hashbrown patties with a delightful balsamic drizzle. They have various events and specials advertised when you come in on a few blackboards. I'm sad I wasn't able to imbibe in their mimosas since I was heading back home, but I will try them next time. I like the concept of a charcuterie board for breakfast and no one does it like Tulua Bistro. I would give it 5 stars as the food is fenomenal, but the last time we went there the service wasn't the best. We ordered the unlimited mimosas ($25.00) which after ordered our server told us we had 30 minutes left to order more mimosas. Then proceeded to tell us that we were only allowed one mimosa per person at the time, but other tables around us had servers bringing them multiple mimosas. We ended up having 3 per person. Our server was as well would disappear and we had to try to get his attention multiple times to get refills and order our food. Everything on the board was exceptional. The only critique I would give are the grits; it needed more salt which I simply adjusted with table salt on the side. Very reasonably priced for the board; $30 and fed 2 people. Service: Standard nice waitress that checked frequently. Ambiance: colorful with the LGBT decor, plants, and wall art (even the menu had some fun LGBT items haha). The only critique I would give is the odor of the place, but maybe it was because we were seated near the bathroom. Edit: forgot to mention I RARELY give 5/5 reviews and I rarely eat breakfast/brunch, but this place made me realize breakfast can be great and not just some generic IHOP or maple street. A place that caught my eye when I was in Jacksonville. Tulsa bistro had such great staff in serving us as they were quick and attentive. We ordered the crab cake Benedict and the not your basic bitch. The grits with the crab cake benedict were rather lackluster and I wished they would add cheese to them or use a different side like potatoes but the benedict itself was very good.
