It was literally just plain HOT from the serrano peppers. There was no balance, no citrus tang, no seasoning to enhance the seafood--just heat, and not in a good way. Aguachile is supposed to have a refreshing yet zesty kick, but this one was truly disappointing. Definitely not what I was expecting from a seafood spot that prides itself on quality. Would not recommend this dish. I've had Aguachile Verdes in Mexico, and it was incredible--full of fresh, balanced flavors with just the right amount of heat. I finally got the chance to try out this new Mexican seafood spot that took over the old Papa John's in Mira Mesa. I've been reading up on the experiences that people have been having - all positive... and I will have to agree. Very delicious! I ordered a few items to try out: Marlin Taquitos - Tasty and a very good amount. I would recommend eating it fresh out the box! Pulpo Enamorado Taco - Tasty as well. There was a good amount of octopus and avocado in this taco but if you're not a fan of onions, this might not be it. The taco has a lot of caramelized onions, which can definitely taste sweet but I enjoyed it. Oh and that mozarella cheese was on point. Quesabirria - Cheesy and plenty of birria. I can't really give this a review but my friend enjoyed it. No consome dip... if you're expecting that Camarones Diablo - Very spicy. They use nice large pieces of jumbo shrimp that are sauted with a spicy diablo house sauce. It's not the typical diablo sauce that's mixed with white sauce that a lot of local places have. It seems to be more of the deep red chili variety. Nice kick! You also get a choice of corn or flour tortillas as well. I was also a bit disappointed in the lack of vegetarian options. I came with my sister and there was barely anything for her to choose (which okay, I can write that off, its not their job to cater to vegetarians) but what put salt in the wound was when we asked for a chile relleno without the shrimp, the cashier questioned us like we were crazy. Great place to stop for lunch! It was very busy around 1:00pm on Friday but there was enough space to accommodate everyone. Nice patio with heaters when it's colder out. We tried various tacos and both got the fried fish taco. The flavors are great. Huge portions which is a huge plus! Love the loads of meat they give for each taco. Quemada salsa was an excellent addition to any meal. The salsa verde was a little runny for my taste but I'm sure they will add more selections once they get going. The smoked marlin was so freaking yummy! A bit salty but well balanced with the fresh salsas and lime. Carne asada and shrimp were high quality and fresh and just the right balance of both. This place was so hyped up when it first opened up. We have been here a few times and the food was just ok, especially for the prices. The service especially through the drive thru can be improved as each time we've been here there is a really long wait even if you're the only one there. Last time I came I got a Siete mares soup and the seafood was still cold so you could tell it was frozen and had to be cooked, plus it was not seasoned and it was bland. Came with a pal earlier this week, and I had a great experience! The food was very fresh and their menu was expansive. We got 2 tacos and some potato tacquitos to share. Surprisingly it was enough food for both of us and for a good price! We got the fish taco, which was stacked high with fried fish and all the classic toppings. I was skeptical at first, but the amount of food we got was worth it! We also got the camaron enchilado taco, which is a spicy shrimp taco. It wasn't as full as the fish taco, but it was packed with flavor. I was a bit shocked that they really don't hold back on the spice!! Their menu is huge, and we saw a couple of people get a whole fried fish plate! It looked really good. The cevices also look really good, as expected from a Mexican Seafood shop. Can't wait to come back and try some other items! The only downside is theres not much room inside to sit. They have a large patio that would be nice with some tables/chairs and cooler weather! Tulum Seafood is a new Mexican restaurant in Mira Mesa that specializes in seafood. Every time I drove by, I would see people always eating in the outdoor patio, which I should note adds to its amazing ambiance, so I had to see what was drawing everyone in. I came with my family so we ordered a good variety of things to really get a taste of what Tulum Seafood has to offer. If this review was based on food quality alone, this place would easily get a 5. You can clearly taste the quality of ingredients that they use which I greatly appreciate. However, the food was a bit disappointing when it came to flavor. The Gobernador Taco and Marlin Tacos simply just tasted like the sauce that they poured on top of the shrimp and smoked tuna, which should be the stars of the show. Even eating the smoked tuna alone, I couldn't really get much flavor out of it. The Mar y Tierra Papas Fritas looked great in appearance, but again, fell short on flavor. The fries were nice and crunchy but I really couldn't taste much, with their guac even being a bit more on the bland side as well. The Ceviche Tulum was good, no complaints as it really highlights the fresh shrimp as the star ingredient. The Camarones al Mojo de Ajo was also good and tastes pretty much how it sounds, shrimp in garlic butter which you can't really go wrong with. The Piña Aguas Frescas that I chose as my beverage for this meal also fell a bit short on flavor, tasting pretty watered down with a hint of pineapple flavor. Service was pretty standard and nothing out of this world, just sufficient. Overall, I think it's a good try for anyone looking for seafood in the area, but, personally, I don't think I will be back. read more

Hands down, it's the best verdes aguachile I've ever had in my entire life, and I've been to some bougie restaurants across the board. Not only is it freshly made to order, but you can also tell that this is their jam. All the other Yelp reviews are completely right--they are generous with their portions. Every bite is insane; it makes you want to go back for a second round already. The staff is so friendly, even through the drive-thru. 4 stars for the food. 1 star for the prices and parking. Food was good, we got aguachiles, surf and turf fries, and a breakfast taco. Cheapest thing on the menu is a breakfast taco for $6. Most items are $20+. Biggest complaint is the parking. There are only a few parking spots and a drive thru that should be strictly an exit. If you're going to offer a drive thru at least have a sign that lets your customers know that they're going into a drive thru and to expect a 10-20 minute wait. My recommendation would be to offer more inexpensive food options and to get rid of the drive thru. Absolutely no reason to have a drive thru for food that isn't fast. read more

Much needed new gem in Mira Mesa. I took my family of 5 and ordered a bunch of food and drinks, everything was delicious. The employees were very helpful and friendly, and recommended great items when I asked what their personal favorites were. Food came out quick even with a bunch of people ordering!! Customer Service was the WORST on Sunday afternoon! I have been going here to support this newer local establishment every week or two since it opened. The food and service has always been great. Yesterday we went there and did not feel welcomed at all. No greeting when we arrived, No how can I help you, just a young man at the cash register staring at you until you gave him your order. No thank you after you ordered and paid, just turned around and left. Saw an item fall on the floor and he picked it up and put it on a customers tray. When our order was ready he just set it on the counter - no call out that your order was ready or anything. There were 10 other customers waiting for orders how would we know it was ours? I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor and they said no one was working today, you think we would have been asked if there was a problem, but no turned and walked away. If this is the type of employee that is going to be put at the front counter, this establishment will not last long. Very unfortunate as we have had so many good experiences there. read more
